Perfect for a college student

This is the perfect rice cooker a college student. It's low priced and makes enough rice at a time to cover that night's dinner or the next few days ahead. Will occasionally burn some of the rice but never badly. Easy to clean as well.

This is a convenient appliance for cooking rice and steaming vegetables. It can even do both at the same time. Sometimes the rice sticks to the bottom, but still the rice is good.

I bought this rice cooker to replace an older model Rival Rice cooker in which the teflon coating had worn. In hindsight, I wish I would have kept the old model.
While the newer model looks much nicer than the old one, the cooking results are extremely disappointing! The new version has a flat bottom which has scorched the rice on several occasions if I am not watching the pot. I've played around with different varieties of rice and quinoa as well as adjusting water amounts. Approximately 70% of the time I have had scorched results if I am not there to immediately unplug the cooker after a set period of time.
My old rice cooker had a rounded bottom so that after the water evaporated with cooking the pot was not sitting directly on the heating element. I could leave it on the warm cycle for up to an hour and my results were always great.
This newer model I would dare leave plugged in without watching it. I believe the flat bottom to be a design flaw on the newer model and potentially is the cause of the scorching as it sits right on the heating element.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to provide your feedback. We greatly appreciate it and will forward your comments to our product team.
We recommend before cooking, rinse rice in warm water until water becomes clear. Then place the rice in the inner pot with fresh water. Also, please take care to use proper water to rice ratios.

Good Rice Cooker, However...

The rice cooker made great rice. However, it doesn't really make 6 actual cups of rice. I made 4 cups, and it was filled almost to the top. It makes 6 "rice cooker" cups. Which are actually only 3/4 of a cup. But, if you don't need it to make that much it is a great little rice cooker.

Very Disappointed As It Died After a Few Uses

When it worked, it was great. Terrific rice in 15 minutes. Then just over 30 days later it won't power up. We only used it about four times and always cared for it as recommended. I looked up the manufacturer warranty and it would cost me over the price of a new one to send it to them via UPS Ground and then include a prepaid 'shipping' fee of an additional ten dollars.
I will replace it with another brand as this had to be the poorest excuse for a kitchen appliance and I won't be purchasing Rival products again. I guess you get what you pay for... but I expected it to last at least a year, not a month.

Quite poor for a thing that boils water

I haven't tried white rice in it, but it certainly can't seem to handle any kind of brown rice. The recommended water level is completely wrong (double it), it doesn't turn off anywhere NEAR in time, and burns everything if left to its own time frame. And you could steam vegetables on the stove top in about a third of the time it takes this thing.

I've only used it 3 times and each time it has burned the rice on the bottom and cooks very hard rice, never fluffy. I've had to throw out 2 of the 3 batches.
Save your money and splurge on a higher quality rice cooker
