      Real workhorse

I have owned this rice cooker for OVER 5 years and it is still going strong! To give you a little bit of context I am Puerto Rican and I've been making rice since I was 8 years old (I am over 40). We use this little cooker -AT LEAST- once a day to make anything from oatmeal in the morning to rice mixed with beans or vegetables. It is simple to use and once you get the right combination of rice and water, made super easy with the included measuring cup you are guaranteed perfect rice every time. Old fashioned steel cut Oatmeal is a cinch in this little cooker -1-1/2 cups milk or water and 3/4 cup dried oatmeal, add a teaspoon of brown sugar , a sprinkle of cinnamon and a pat of butter and you have a hearty breakfast. I am handicapped now and cannot sit over a stove and watch pots, this rice cooker is truly a blessing and a little workhorse. I definitely have gotten my moneys worth. You cannot go wrong if you get it. the only thing you need to know is your rice. Paboiled rice will be MUCH fluffier than regular long grain, s stay at 3 cups or it will overflow once cooked. The nonstick pot is fantastic, just make sure you don't use any metal spoons or utensils in it. I lost my lid years ago-it shattered from heat when used to cover something else by mistake, and have not been able to replace it so I still use my cooker I just put a saucer on top-works like a charm!

I bought this rice cooker to replace an older model Rival Rice cooker in which the teflon coating had worn. In hindsight, I wish I would have kept the old model. While the newer model looks much nicer than the old one, the cooking results are extremely disappointing! The new version has a flat bottom which has scorched the rice on several occasions if I am not watching the pot. I've played around with different varieties of rice and quinoa as well as adjusting water amounts. Approximately 70% of the time I have had scorched results if I am not there to immediately unplug the cooker after a set period of time. My old rice cooker had a rounded bottom so that after the water evaporated with cooking the pot was not sitting directly on the heating element. I could leave it on the warm cycle for up to an hour and my results were always great. This newer model I would dare leave plugged in without watching it. I believe the flat bottom to be a design flaw on the newer model and potentially is the cause of the scorching as it sits right on the heating element.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to provide your feedback. We greatly appreciate it and will forward your comments to our product team.

We recommend before cooking, rinse rice in warm water until water becomes clear. Then place the rice in the inner pot with fresh water. Also, please take care to use proper water to rice ratios. Rival

Big bang for not much $...

I picked up a (well used) unit at Goodwill today thinking it wouldn't work well. To my surprise this thing kicks butt! The inner Teflon was abused and scratched badly from whoever owned it before me but my first batch of rice didn't stick. The rice didn't boil over AND it was pure white on the bottom and not scorched like other cookers I've used. I always rinse my rice well to keep it from boiling over. I put in a cup of Jasmin and 1.25 cups of water and it cooked it to perfection in that it wasn't soggy and wasn't dry...it was perfect and fluffy. I don't think it would hold over 2 cups (dry) because it was half full with 1 cup. It's really small and takes up no space. I'll be using it all the time. Get yours today and you'll be happy with it! It cooks soups too.

Very Disappointed As It Died After a Few Uses

When it worked, it was great. Terrific rice in 15 minutes. Then just over 30 days later it won't power up. We only used it about four times and always cared for it as recommended. I looked up the manufacturer warranty and it would cost me over the price of a new one to send it to them via UPS Ground and then include a prepaid 'shipping' fee of an additional ten dollars. I will replace it with another brand as this had to be the poorest excuse for a kitchen appliance and I won't be purchasing Rival products again. I guess you get what you pay for... but I expected it to last at least a year, not a month.

      Best Steamer for the money

I bought one of these several years ago and have been using it once or twice a week since. I liked it so much that I bought one for each of my daughters and girlfriend. All of them get regular use. I like brown rice with my meals so I cook up a batch and put the leftover rice back in the fridge in the cooker pan. To re-heat, I just put a splash of water in the pan and put it back to steam. I also use this for any number of other rice based recipes. To clean I put the top in the dishwasher, the pan washes quickly with soapy water.

This was a very disapointing purchase. I bought it to replace an old Rival rice cooker of which the teflon coating had begun to wear. There is a design flaw in the newer Rival model. The cooking pot sits directly on the heating element so that it causes the rice to scorch as the water evaporates. You have to unplug it to turn it off as soon as it hits the warm cycle or you will have burned rice. And it takes much longer to cook rice than the older model did. I would not recommend purchasing this product.

This rice cooker is so great! It's cute and small, and really makes you think about how much rice 6 cups is. But the misleading part: the instructions specifically say that the "rice cooker cup" is smaller than an actual cup. I forget the actual conversion, but it can take 3 rice cooker cups of uncooked rice and makes 6 cooked rice cooker cups of rice. 3 rice cooker cups was like...2.5 standard cups? Around there? Either way, I used it to cook the rice for sushi and it turned out amazing!

I like the smaller size and it makes enough for my personal use. You just need to make sure water to grain proportions are correct. I think if you have too much water, it spews out the top and splatters everywhere, but with the right proportions, it cooks fine and works well. I have used it with a variety of grains and quinoa, not just rice. I like that the pan is non-stick and if it ever gets scratched up, the whole thing is relatively inexpensive to replace. I have only used it a few times so I cannot speak to durability.
