Having recently "cut the cord" on satellite tv options I found the TiVo Romiao a great option. We now have 30+ local channels with an excellent Guide as well as recording capability. Very easy installation, easy to use. Previously spending $140 per month for satellite tv, this unit paid for itself in less than 3 months. Love skipping commercials on recordings, trying to think of something negative to mention but having used the Roamio for more than a month now, I'm exceptionally satisfied

I considered this purchase for months and wish I had made it earlier. I can’t say enough about this. The features are great and are well worth the money. And all of them without a monthly subscription.

My TV reception is over the air. Had all kinds of problems with the old DVR and VCR. Reviewed all the alternatives and took a chance on the TiVo Roamio OTA. Sure glad we did. Set up was a little complex requiring a call to their service representatives who were very friendly and solved connection verification issues quickly. This unit is amazing. Non of the reception sensitivity issues reported in some other reviews. Records up to four channels at a time. The commercial skip feature is great. On-screen program schedule has all local shows listed. A nice feature is the radio linked remote. The TiVo does not need to be line-of-sight to the remote. We really like this video recorder.

Though a little more than I would have liked to have spent, I'm glad I made this purchase. The Tivo Roamio was very easy to set up and is very easy to use. It's pretty intuitive, so I didn't spend much time trying to figure out how to navigate through the various menus. And I'm very glad to have paid a one-time "charge" for the Roamio - having no monthly fees attached to this was definitely a plus.

The Tivo Roamio OTA was very easy to setup. The guide is what you are used too if you have cable. The recordings work fine and there is plenty of room on the HD plus you can also plug in a usb drive to add more storage. Cons: - I wish the remote was backlit. I wish there were other services to connect too. It has Hulu and Amazon prime but wish it could also connect to Sling, PSVUE and the other streaming services.

Best OTA DVR you can buy but not perfect

After cutting the cable cord you will need a DVR for over the air TV. I researched 4 different makes and came up with the TIVO Roamio 1TB is it good but not perfect. I have had several pay system DVRs from Comcast, Direct TV and Dish. Things I liked: The feel of the remote, crispness of the buttons The LEDs on the box tell you how many tuners are being used at any one time I like this I love the commercial skip button when it works which it does with about 70% of TV shows. Things I did not like: Advertisements everywhere TIVO calls them suggestions but they are trying to get you to buy something or subscribe to something and there is no way to turn it off. Given this is a subscription service you pay for the guides and to connect to their network it should be free of ads. The FF button to skip commercials the skip button does not work on is way to slow 3 levels of speed all of which are much slower then everyone else. You cannot set the program to wait for a few minutes before starting a recording, like if you want to skip 1 minute of intros and network credits, you can only add time to the beginning or end not shorten. The guide system is totally alien to every previous DVR you have ever seen. Its also very clumsy and requires too many keys to do basic things. If you are used to a grid system this will shock you its all menu driven weird system. No power button you cannot turn it off ridiculous the stand by button is buried deep in a sub menu. The DVR button is on the top of the remote it should be in the center as its often used, the most important buttons are way to small and spread out too far. Lastly and this could be a deal breaker for many the setup from turning on to actually being able to use it for the first time takes 2 full hours no exaggeration I timed it. You connect to the internet as you have to it needs to update the guide for 30 minutes before the first use then it must update the firmware for another 30 minutes no way around it. You must register the TIVO before using it which takes 1 hour because the people on the phone dont speak english and dont understand their products. TIVO Roamio is lifetime subscription included yet 3 different people insisted I give them a credit card and pay for a monthly subscription only the supervisor figured out the Roamio is free (included with purchase). When you buy a new electronic toy you want to start using it right away to make anyone suffer through 2 hours of setup is bad product testing. While its sad that this is the best I could find and still have problems just means that companies need to have actual TV users test their products prior to marketing. But this is the best DVR or PVR on the market sad to say.

I have been a TIVO user since it was 1st introduced. I also have Romeo for other TVs.I freed myself from cable and bought the new TIVO. Plugged it. and discovered many channels that cabler didn't. mention. So easy to use with preloaded apps. Search is easy since TIVO searches apps as well as live TV for me. I've already convinced a couple of people to get. one. NO MORE CABLE ! It is perfect.

The Roamio OTA has brought back the main thing I missed about having cable. It works smoothly -- enough that my wife and children have also adapted to the controls, screens, and flow. Netflix seems a little slower than on our other devices (phones, roku, ps3) with more buffering, but that's not why we bought it. Plenty of storage. OnePass season recording is fantastic. Love this!

Got this is a replacement for the Channel Master DVR+ which died after less than 2 years. Just got the Tivo Roamio OTA today. This has a much more intricate operating system, can record more shows at once, can let you know what is also on streaming services and has a smartphone app to set up recordings while away. So, that alone is a big step up from the Channel Master. I like what I see so far, been playing with it for hours actually been up all night getting familiar with it.

The TiVo Roamio is a great device. I recently " cut the cord" but wanted to be able to have a tv guide and recorder. The Roamio provides exactly what I wanted with no monthly fees. The commercial skip button is the BOMB!! Love it!! Netflix and Amazon seem to load in half the time that it took my Smart TV to load them. The picture and sound quality is outstanding. I am extremely happy with the Roamio - kudos to TiVo.

I didn't realize until I had already hooked it up and called the cable guy that this box does NOT have a "cable card" so it will never work with cable, only with an OTA antenna. It does say that on the box, I just missed that. That being said, though - it does work really well for the OTA recording, and the Tivo guide is wonderful. If you sign up for streaming services, you can access them here, too - and the shows will appear on your list. Very convenient.

Gotta love the subscription-free DVR option. For cutting the cord, I felt like this was the best optio. I could find, and I haven’t been let down. On the flip side, this is a great unit, but may be a little overpriced for features (especially remote) that need some upgrading. I feel like I’m using a universal remote. Other than a few minor issues like that, I still think it may be one of the better options out there. No major complaints.

We love our TiVo. We were able to cut the cord. We watch all of our locals over the air and use the DVR to keep up on them. It’s fantastic. I’ve had no issues. The interface is easy to use and intuitive. The iPhone app is great for managing and watching your recordings. I have no regrets about buying this item. It’s saved us so much money on cable bills.

After cutting the cord from my satellite provider, I still wanted to be able to have full DVR functionality. This box is exactly what I needed. Records four channels at once, pause live TV, etc. Recorded picture quality is excellent. No monthly service fees like their other boxes.

The TIVO Romio OTA is a great product. Works better than any DVR I have had before. LOVE the SKIP function on recorded shows. It did not get 5 stars because it does not support 4K. I bought the OTA model because it does not have monthly FEEs. It comes with a lifetime guide function subscription. TIVO,s new model the Bolt does support 4K but requires a $15 monthly FEE to get the guide subscription. I bought an antenna and a TIVO to get away from unreasonable monthly FEEs not so I could pay unreasonable FEEs to someone else. Providing a Guide function does not cost $15 a month. Another example of Greed knowing no bounds.

I cut the cord many years ago. The hardest thing was to record a show. I used windows media center for a couple of years and it was good but then they discontinued support. So finding other software that was any good was hard and most was glitchy or to hard to set up. Finally in comes the TiVo dvr. It does all the work for you. 4 shows at one time and pretty intuitive set up. I have had one problem and it is the fan. Mine has become very loud. Ive contacted TiVo, and in surprisingly quick fashion they are sending a new one out. So good customer service. If you are looking for and easy to operate fee free dvr this is the best there is period!

Best Option from Cord Cutters that want a DVR

After having tried every other option to have a true DVR experience for Over The Air broadcast, this was by far the best option I found. While not perfect, it has virtually all of the functionality I was looking for, and a few features that I now love, but didn't know I needed. My only big knock is the inability to add other services like Amazon Prime, YouTube Live, and others to the functionality of the box. The fact that the Tivo guide service is included for life at the base cost makes this a great pick for the cost conscious cord cutter.

If you are looking for a single television OTA recording device this is the perfect option. The guide is very user friendly, especially for users familiar with the Tivo service. The set-up is very simple and straightforward. The initial boot up of the DVR takes about 45 - 60 minutes but once that is complete you are ready to begin viewing.

The TiVo as a unit works great. It does everything you'd expect it to do - OTA live TV guide, DVR included, streaming apps, etc. One feature I really enjoyed was the "One Pass" where you can select favorite TV shows and it will record instances of the show and display all the apps that you can stream it on. However, this feature also leads into why I can no longer stand this device... The streaming. TiVo puts a lot of big streaming app labels on their box which they do have. I'll give them that. However, these apps are all the outdated and sluggish verisons of the apps where other streaming devices do a much better job. Not to mention, these are just about all you get. No support of any cord-cutting TV streaming (SlingTV, DirecTV Now, Hulu Live, YouTube TV, etc). Bottom-line, they don't have much support for their apps or any other services so it lacks as a streaming player. The last thing I want to mention for anyone who likes HBO content, they ONLY support HBO Go. This is a slap in the face for OTA cord-cutting. HBO Go is only available if you buy HBO through a cable provided. That makes this app worthless. If TiVo decided to rejuvenate their software and gain support of big streaming services, I may consider going back. But for now, this box is a good OTA DVR (even though it's pricier than some), but a worthless streaming device.
