It worked for a week then died. I called them and they said they would send me another one and I would get it be next Friday. That was three weeks ago and today I found out I could have called you and exchanged it right then. But I am four days too late.

On the fifteenth day of ownership, the cooling fan in the unit became extremely loud and annoying. I could hear it in the next room! I returned the product.

Neither unit would do the setup on my Samsung TV. TiVo rep or Best Buy rep couldn't help with this. Best Buy rep suggested a Channel Master DVR+ which setup up with no problem and we love it.

This DVR rocks as the guide is similar to the guide from cable TV. The menus can be cumbersome to navigate until you get used to them. Only complaint is the fan got noisy within 60 days. Not wanting the hassle of returning I purchased an after market fan that is way quieter then the original. Great DVR. One improvement would be the ability to add apps.

I am a recent cord cutter from Dish and sorely missed the DVR functionality for over the air programs. This box fit the bill perfectly. I love the ability to skip commercials with just a click of one button. Setting it up takes some time, although it is very simple. The picture quality is great!

Purchased this TiVo OTA 1TB on 5/19/2016. This TiVo Over the Air model includes the TiVo subscription in the $399 price. The first thing you need to do when you get this unit home is register it with TiVo to activate the subscription. You can do this online or on the phone. I chose the Phone method. They were very polite and knowledgeable however I must warn you TiVo will ask you for your credit card number even though they won't charge you for the monthly subscription since it's included in the price. We will see in a month or two what happens? Set up was easy. Connect it up to your tv via HDMI, connect it to your antenna, connected to the internet via Ethernet. You can also use WiFi but who wants to go thru the hassle. Lastly connect it to power. After it powers up you answer a few questions and then you do some waiting. About 2 hours. It downloads some updates, scans your tv stations, downloads the guide, downloads more updates. It boots up at least 2 times. One thing you need to know. It has no on/off switch or button. TiVo always runs. I even called up Tech Support to confirm this and they were very friendly, polite and knowledgeable. My final test was for me to use the program guide to select 4 tv shows on different channels all starting at the same time. End result, all 4 tv shows recorded and they were beautiful. Only time will tell what issues and questions will occur.

Does not support streaming out of DVR content

The DVR guide and recording is fine. Really nice to be able to record Antenna. Only some shows allow skipping commercials, which was a big bummer considering the cost of this. However, this box does NOT support streaming out of DVR recordings. We felt misled in this regard because Tivo advertises that you can watch your recorded shows on the Tivo app. We wanted to set up the DVR in the master bedroom to record shows and then watch the family friendly recordings in our living room. We bought a Firestick, and the Tivo app on the firestick wouldn't even permit login to the Tivo account. Tivo support said it was because Roamio OTA does not support streaming out. The Tivo site is very poor in detailing the capabilities of it's products. The guy at Best Buy knew even less than we did about Tivo. We called Tivo support several times to find out how we could stream our recorded content (because even they didn't seem to know what the capabilities are/aren't). We considered buying a Tivo mini vox, but support told us this would have to be hard-wired to the Tivo Roamio OTA. What a hassle, especially when the mini vox costs almost as much. We might as well buy another Roamio. At this point, it just seems like a money grab instead of an innovative solution to watching, recording, and streaming antenna tv. Lastly, we considered a Slingbox which seems ideal- but then found that Slingboxes are being discontinued. Very frustrating, and it looks like we are past the return date on the Roamio OTA by one day, ugh. We don't recommend the Roamio unless you are willing to buy a box for each room. Also, it does not have a Sling app (though it does have Netflix, Amazon, and Vudu). So you will still need your Roku or other streaming device if you want to use streaming services like Sling. Especially newer streaming services that are coming out now, like Philo. If Tivo changed their antenna DVR to support streaming recordings out to all devices, and quickly integrate apps for Sling, Directv, and newer streaming services- then this would be the one-box solution to beat. As it stands, it is a somewhat useful piece of hardware that is not a great value for the price.

Purchased this at Best Buy about 45 days ago and in last week after I passed the 30 day in store assistance, about 4am each day (evidently to wake me up in the middle of the night), the fan starts whirring very loudly every night. The first time it happened, I was able to lightly tap the top left and it got quiet, but that hasn't worked since. I use this in my bedroom so there is no escaping this loud noise it makes for it to be so brand new. Very disappointing, but I still like Tivo overall.

    Great for Cord Cutters

I cut the cord about three years ago. The device I had been using to record over the air programs broke and it was hard to find a replacement. I looked into the Tivo Roamio and it has been perfect for me. I love the guide! It gives me a full list of what's going to be on for a couple weeks. It's like having a cable DVR but it's for your OTA stations. One of the only things that I didn't care for was, it is defaulted to record shows that are recommended. I would rather have that as an option to turn on. If you weren't aware that it was doing that it would fill up hard drive space fairly quickly. Another was the price. I purchased this with the lifetime subscription. I'll have to wait and see if this was a good value or not. Overall this was a great purchase and it works exactly like I want it to. I also purchased the Tivo mini for our upstairs tv. They are both working without issues.

    Great Solution for Cord-Cutters

The TiVo Roamio OTA DVR is a great way to get the functionality of a satellite/cable DVR without the cost or subscription commitment. An upfront purchase gives you access to your local TV schedules, with the ability to record, pause, rewind and fast forward through programming—features that we really missed when we cancelled our satellite service. Also the remote control is very ergonomic and comfortable to use, so much better than the one that came with our TV. It's nice that the Roamio gives you integrated access to Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu, etc., but unfortunately CBS All Access is not yet integrated into this system (maybe soon?) One annoying thing is that the unit will sometimes be in recording mode, spontaneously recording a suggested programming choice based on your past viewing/recording habits; fortunately there's a way to disable this. Customer support is very accessible and helpful in this regard.

Like many I had been weary of cutting the cord. After my bill went up yet again (with no additional channels) I had enough. I had looked before at cutting the cord but this device finally convinced me. I am fortunate to live in the LA area so there is pretty good reception with an antenna. I get abc, nbc, fox, cbs and a bunch of other channels. I am able to record anything that comes in over the air. The channel guide is awesome (that's in essence what you are paying for with this). But you get lifetime channel guide with great search functions. I already subscribed to Amazon Prime & Netflix. These integrate seamlessly with the Tivo. I programmed my Tivo to know I subscribe to these so if I do any searches, it includes Amazon Prime and Netflix when looking for shows. I thought I'd really miss cable but I don't at all. My main concern was watching sports. I'll be able to record broadcast football so I won't miss that. When hockey season starts, I'll subscribe to Sling TV for the duration of the season at $30/month and cancel after the season is over. If you are a die hard sports fan, then I would suggest subscribing to streaming NFL network, MLB network, NHL network. What they charge you for one season is still way cheaper than cable. I bought the Tivo mini for my bedroom. I am saving $100/month and my investment in this device will pay for itself in 4 months. Just do it and quit being held hostage into paying for channels you don't watch!

I have had this TIVO for at least two weeks. There was issues with the delivery to home, the box was a total mess. So I decided to wait a few more days to pick up in store instead. I had the 5oo gb TIVO OTA before this one, and they both work the same. I have had zero problems. It comes with lifetime subscription and 1 tb of storage. I wish it was the 4K, but I am completely satisfied with this product.

Appears to be well made and is a compact unit that will not take up much space in a home theater equipment rack of shelf. It works well with an excellent program guide which TiVo has always excelled at. The monthly subscription fee for just OTA and streaming video is simply excessive at double the appropriate fee.

    Cord cutter's dream

If you are considering cutting the cord, get a TiVo. Go to tvfool.com, enter your address and you can see what channels are available, what direction they are in and what sort of antenna would be best. I highly recommend the ClearStream 4V antenna with the mount and a ChannelMaster amplifier with as many ports as you have TVs and/or get TiVo Minis for the other TVs. It runs most of the popular streaming apps (although the higher end Roku are much better, the Nvidia Shield the best) and tell your overpriced cable provider to go stick it. We went from over $120 a month to $70 a month for Internet then $13 for Netflix with 4k and Amazon Prime. We get 24 channels in amazing HD. Sports never looked better, particularly soccer and hockey. I love when a game is broadcast, beats our cable or streaming hands down. Watch for the antenna to go on sale, and you have an ever bigger savings. Our family now has 3 TiVo Romios 1 TiVo Mini, 5 Roku of different generations and models and a Nvidia Shield, soon to be more of the Shield I'm sure. My only wish is they would make an app for the Roku, Apple TV and Android to take the place of the TiVo Mini, but then they could not charge $149 for that.

    Disorganized dishonest company

I was looking for a DVR that I could use without a monthly subscription. The unit I bought does indeed record shows, but trying to activate the unit with the company is so far a 2-1/2 hour experience that is still not resolved. I was able to activate the Roamio OTA unit following the prompts on the TV. Or was I? The process seemed to go smooth and took a little under 2 hours with all of the registration and updates required. I instantly received a confirmation email that I was registered, indicating the unit was activated. But I had no reception. Maybe it takes some time. I called their tech support number and received a lady who barely spoke English. I couldn't understand her and she couldn't apparently understand me. That was an hour conversation. While trying to communicate with her, the activation finally kicked in, but she hadn't done anything and still insisted she hadn't done anything yet on her end. At one point I lost contact with her; the line went dead. I waited it out and she came back on about two minutes later, realized I was still waiting for her, and likely put me on hold, without a word. I waited it out, for about 15 minutes, and she reappeared again, and likely was surprised I was still on. She picked up where she left off, and when I asked why she disappeared and what took so long, she ignored my question. A few minutes later she disconnected the line permanently. At least the unit worked. A week later I used their tech support chat feature because the ios app doesn't stream the TiVo to the phone as advertised. The chat person insisted that the unit wasn't activated yet, and to activate the Roamio I needed to pay $14.95 per month. After I quoted to him TiVo's own web page as well as Best Buy's about service included/no monthly fees, he suggested I buy a TiVo Bolt instead on sale for $475. Maybe tech support is incentivized to sell? I then copy/pasted the confirmation email showing him the unit was indeed activated. I asked for someone higher up who would confirm no additional fees are needed. At this point our chat became "disconnected." I went back into chat and amazingly got the same person (Toni). He/she apologized but still gave me the same misinformation. I asked if I was indeed registered, he/she ignored the question (again). I asked (again) about how to stream to the phone (the reason for my initial inquiry), he/she said they would send me the tutorial for app setup. I mentioned that I had already followed the prompts and the app is active, I can even see the shows on it I recorded but they won't stream to the phone, but if they wanted to send it I would be happy to receive it. At this point he disconnected without a word (again). I did not receive any tutorial as promised. I tried to get back into chat for a third time, but the website stated they are now closed for the evening. Terrible work ethic, and my issue is not resolved after 1 hour on the phone and 1-1/2 hours on chat. Terrible. I would not recommended this company to anyone. I'll have to contact them again.

Really like the concept, easy setup and the User Interface, but I experienced the all-too-common NOISY FAN problem only after 3 weeks of use. Too late to exchange it in-store, so I needed to process an RMA with TiVo to have it replaced. New unit is on its way, fingers crossed! Do yourself a favor, get the extended warranty from TiVo, but be prepared to pay additional fees for future exchanges depending on its age.

Have been a longtime Tivo customer so this is why I hate to write this review but people need to know what has happened to Tivo service. Since the Tivo merger with Rovi customer service has gone out the window. The program service was changed and now it is almost impossible to get a correct lineup for your machine and they appear uninterested in complaints. Even the tech people that answer the phone sound frustrated and defensive. Both my machines have served me well over the years but now a large part of my shows have to be manually set up. Consider this before before getting stuck with a Tivo machine.
