Many appreciate the commercial skip function and the user-friendly program guide. However, some users experienced issues with fan noise and inconsistent streaming performance. A few also noted challenges with reception and the remote control.

Our son in law told us about TiVo, and how much money they were saving. We decided to cut back on what we were spending on television since most of what we were watching was on the Networks, and on Netflix and/or Hulu. Could not be happier with this product. Put an antenna in our attic and getting all of the channels we need, coupled with streaming tv (with many built in Apps) its perfect. The interface is far easier to use than our old television provider box and the storage pace at 1TB allows for 150 hours of HD recording time. We coupled it with a TiVo mini for our bedroom and don't think we'll ever go back to paying for television again!

I get more from this than I did with my DirecTV DVR. 5 channel capability is awesome! Hard to set up at first but I love it! Haven't owned it very long and learning new things every day. Love the skip feature!

Needed to be able to hook up a recorder with remote to an outdoor antenna. The ROAMIO works great. tried another TIVO product which didn't work at all. If you have an outdoor antenna this is the product to buy.

Quit pay TV and this has been great. Love the commercial skip feature. It also connects directly with app's like Netflix. If you are looking for a show, it will tell you what app it can be found on if available. Should have done this a long time ago.

So easy to set up and record all the programs we used to miss. Finally an OTA with no monthly fees. Plenty of storage space to cover long vacations. Love the commercial skip feature.

Great device. Love that can set up recording with Tivo Mobile app. No need to change input on TV just keep watching Broadcast then set up new show to record from phone or iPad. Also Comercial skip works perfectly on prime time shows. Had to turn off Tivo recommendactions, was recording shows I would never watch. Also had to change sound from default dolby to PCM because I have older Sony that did not support it and recorded sound would have losses intermittently.works perfectly once I figured that out.

I was disappointed when my apt complex switched cable services because I had to give up my beloved DVR. I was cranky and resentful of the $400 expense (previously I leased the DVR from cable company for a song). Well, I've eaten my words because the TiVo is a delight to use and a wonder of intuitive service. I love everything about it. Even when it misses the mark on a TiVo-suggested recording, it's easily deleted and appreciated more often than not. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

all the Tivo function with over-the-air TV

I have had Tivo products in the past and have been impressed with the steady improvements in functions, features, and capabilities. I recently decided to cut cable but did not want to 'cut' Tivo. While the initial cost of the unit may seem high, for me, having all the Tivo features & no further monthly cost for the service has been worth the initial investment. ***Please note *** the most difficult part of the transition to over-the-air television has been finding an antenna that works well & consistently. The Tivo can only record the signal & quality it is receiving from the connected over-the-air antenna.

Get yourself a decent antenna and sign up (FREE!) to Tivo and this thing works like a champ! Get season passes (OnePass) to all your favorite shows either broadcast or streamed! (disclaimer: I haven't tried the streaming function yet) You can even program it through the Tivo website. The playback function works better than my cable service's DVR. When viewing some prime-time programs you can press one button and immediately skip ALL commercials and go directly back to the program! Sweet! That feature alone makes me glad I bought this! Sooo glad I bought this! I'd honestly be surprised if you didn't.

Just What I Needed to Cut the Cable

I'd been wanting to "cut the cable" for some time, but couldn't find the right streaming providers and DVR to give me what I had with my satellite provider. This DVR was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I now get better quality network reception over-the-air, can view Netflix and Hulu through this one DVR, and program what I want to record just as I did through my satellite provider's DVR -- all for less than half what I was paying that satellite TV provider.

It would have been 5 star if all I wanted to do was DVR OTA content. Good reception and audio output was Dolby 5.1. I needed to stream Hulu live as well and Tivo does not do that at this time.

    Wanted a Tivo for years!

I have wanted a Tivo for years and cutting the cable company cord gave me an opportunity to do so. I like the lifetime guide update service and the four tuners allow me to record up to four shows at the same time. The only item on my wishlist would be the ability to download a better assortment of apps. Tivo does not allow me to download the the Playstation Vue app. This app allows me to stream channels that I had on cable and still want. Hopefully, Tivo will expand the availability in the future. For this reason, I deducted one star!

I love my new TiVo. Commercial skip is great. No future dvr fees is also awesome. However, to have multi room viewing, multiple TiVo minis or a TiVo stream is required at $150 a pop. So it's awesome but too expensive for multiple screens

I decided to have a professional company come in & install a Channel Master 4228HD antenna on our roof & hook up all 3 TV's in the house. Ditched DirecTV & the $150.00 monthly bill. I get 58 OTA channels From Boston/Providence RI. I switched out the standard 1TB Tivo HD for a 3TB one (very easy install) It's worth the investment as you'll no longer have a hefty cable/satellite bill.

Single best way to conveniently be OTA

This really made it possible for me to enjoy cutting the cable cord and going all OTA. The lack of monthly fees is great and the unit worked right out of the box. The aggregation feature (can't remember what they call it) to find all the stuff one is looking for across multiple venues is great. Only reason to lack one star is that the automatic suggestions don't seem to learn from the ones that I delete without watching and the learning curve to not have a dedicated power/standby switch. Still working on programming with my universal remote.

This Tivo DVR for over the air programing provides all of the functionality of a cable or satellite DVR and no monthly fees! I also purchased 3 Tivo mini's for my other tv's and they have all of the same great features of the main Tivo Romio. Easy to set up if your house is wired for cable or satellite tv. I put a HD TV antenna on my roof connected the antenna to my satellite cable added an amplified 4-way splitter and was good to go. NO MONTHLY FEE TV!

I have resisted Tivo in the past due to the pricey subscription costs. This product is made for those of us without cable, and includes 4 tuners and a lifetime subscription. It would be a 5, but the first one didn't work properly after setup, and I had to drive to the only Best Buy that had it (45 minutes away).

Great OTA DVR, so-so streaming media server

For OTA recording and scheduling, the TiVo holds its own against the Media Center PC that it replaced. However, the streaming performance for Netflix, Hulu and Amazon is woefully slower than Roku. And the Plex plug-in is unusable for streaming high-bitrate content like Blu-Ray rips. All of those can be blamed on the Opera-driven interface. So for OTA recording, TiVo for the win. But I'll stick with Roku for any streaming needs.
