I absolutely LOVE this 3D printer. I purchased it for $799. The first printer I had did not work correctly. I had issues with it printing in the air and not holding the extruder temperature. I called technical support and was greeted by a very professional technician. He sent me videos on how to address these issues and talked me through it over the phone. He even offered to do it over skype so he could see what I was doing. After about 1 hour it was determined that this could not be fixed and some of the parts needed to be replaced. The technician offered to mail out replacement parts at no cost or recommended I return it for another one. He said there were a few that were manufactured that had these problems but noted that it had been addressed. I returned it for a second printer. Keep in mind these are extremely complex machines. I unpacked the second printer and plugged it in. I set up and connected it to my computer using the provided software (MatterControl). I printed the calibration ring without any issues. It did the auto-level and multi-point adjustment flawlessly. I then proceeded to print an ATST from Star Wars which I had been working on. 14 hours later and the top part of the project was complete. It was printed on a medium quality setting and the details are phenomenal. I would like to address some of the comments I have read from other users who have given this product a low rating. 1) Software: Many complained it was horrible and basic. It works great. They have settings for every experience level. You select Beginner, standard, or expert. It allows you to change just about anything you could desire. It has preset quality and material setting for many of the filament types it is capable of printing. It gives the option to print support material and rafts. Under expert you can adjust layers, surface, infill, speed, support, output options, and multiple extruders (even though this model comes with a single extruder). It has a control section that allows you to custom set the extruder and bed temperature. You are able to move the extruder along any axis with ease using the movement buttons. You can adjust fan speed and set macros. It also gives you the choice of using several different slicing programs when generating the print. You can design the product in whatever CAD software you want and import it into MatterControl. 2) Noise: It is moderately loud. I have tried several other 3D printers and this is pretty on par with the noise from others. 3) Customer service: The customer service is outstanding. Look at some of the other 3D printers on Amazon. You don't see their customer service responding to low ratings. Now look at the low ratings on this printer. The majority of them are commented on offering to help/replace parts. I spoke with them several times on the phone and they were always polite and helpful. 4) Forum support. They have a very active forum with many users willing to help you through problems. There are videos for just about everything imaginable. Overall, if you are looking for a great entry level 3D printer under $1000 this is the one. I have tried some of the DIY kits and they don't even come close to this. The quality is outstanding and it has many nice features some of the cheaper printers do not. I would never buy a printer without the auto-leveling feature. It saves so much time! It looks professional and does what it is designed to do. Before buying any 3D printer, go in with appropriate expectations. Don't expect it to be a problem free process. These are very advanced machines. Part of 3D printing is solving problems. These machines are still relatively new and will continue get better with time. Don't expect any 3D printer to be equivalent to a regular printer where you just hit print and walk away. I think most people who end up disappointed go in with the wrong expectations.

After receiving my robo r1 plus form Best Buy I unboxed and was instantly a little upset there was the x axis belt laying on the bed not attached. Well after a little research an a ton of common sense and 1 phone call to Robo's amazing 24/7 support I was able to get the printer going. First prints were spot on minus a few little issues and a learning curve, but after a little tweaking some settings and controls my prints were amazing! I will say this is not plug and play and print. But come on folks you are not buying a Hp laser printer here this is newer technology and you have to at least have some mechanical and tech knowledge to be able to use this printer to its full potential! So far 10 hours of printing and only a few issues that were quickly resolved by sitting back and using the ol' brain and internet resources. 100% love this printer and is the best printer on the market with the best support both company and community forum under $2k!!!! And a bonus is the factory software is top notch and super easy to navigate with easy workflow!

I am now on my third unit and I will try my best to explain what happened. The first unit must have been a return because packaging was missing. I called ROBO's support number and they sent me pages of disassembly instructions to fix it. I returned it and brought unit number 2. Unit 2 had all the packaging in place and after performing the setup and calibration it worked well for a week. I started having issues with the fans making noise, the prints jamming in the middle of the bed. I contacted ROBO by e-mail and it took them 4 days to respond. But, once they did respond they offered to replace the bed and fans. I was still within my return timeframe so I did not want to bother taking the machine apart as it was new. Now to unit number 3. I have been using this unit without any major issues. I did notice all 3 had slight differences in designs especially the distance from the bed to the carriage. Now to the important part, how does it perform? PROS: 1) 3D printers are not like your inkjet it requires time and knowledge of what you are doing to make great prints especially if you want to use materials besides PLA. This is capable of prints that rival machines I payed over 3k for just a year ago! 2) The software is adequate for 90% of people out there and I found it easy to use and it produced nice prints with little input from me. Personally I use Simplify3D. 3) A HUGE plus is the hot end is capable of printing everything from PLA to PETG and I've even printed NinjaFlex. I don't know of any machine in this price range with an extruder and hot end that works this well. 4) 24/7 Phone support and a great warranty. They truly stand behind their product and are very willing to help. 5) The heated bed size is unparalleled in this price range. You can make very large prints on this machine. 6) Being an open platform design there are many many upgrades available for this machine from LCD controllers to octoprint the sky is the limit! Cons: 1) Reliability is questionable to me after all my issues. 2) The nozzles are not for sale! You have to call and beg to purchase one for $5. All aftermarket nozzles I tried did not print nearly as well. 3) It is a slow machine. 40mm/s is the max speed many print much faster. Overall: I have owned several machines and they all have their own quirks but that's all 3D printers. If you persevere and are willing to learn and tinker a bit this is a great machine at this price point. Despite having the issues I had I would absolutely recommend this.

Great for someone new to 3D printing. Does take some technical abilities to get the most out of it. I had to manually readjust my z axis which wasn't difficult. Print quality is great.

this is my first 3d printer and so far so good. i've printed a bunch of stuff with no issues. it pretty much plug and play on windows 8.1. the software is easy to use. just make sure you buy extra filament. i burned through all my sample filament just printing upgrades for my printer.

Great printer. First thing I would do is get online & print some upgrades, Z axis stabilizers & nut holders, and a spool holder. I've tried both the glue stick & hair spray to try to keep the build adhered to the build bed. Both work okay but there has to be something better, still trying get to find it.

This is my first 3D printer and it was very easy to setup and do the first print job. Excellent forum support and is very easy to find answers to what the hack happened with your print. Love the possibility to use any filament with it and ability to change any settings. Great first 3D printer to understand all the ins and outs of 3D printing. Parts coming out a of a good quality and are printed fairly fast.

The Robo R1+ replaced a defective DaVinci printer for me and while it is a little on the noisier side and is not enclosed the way the DaVinci printer was, I have not had any problems with the Robo like I did with the DaVinci. I found XYZPrinting was quick to blame me and void my warranty when their DaVinci printer failed after one print. I have not had any problems with my Robo and I have printed several things with it already. I have learned through additional online reading, that the Robo R1+ does have more options available to consumers when they want to try larger nozzles for their print head to use other types of filament and its easier to obtain and replace thermistor wires where the DaVinci was more difficult to get parts for. That was my experience anyway! I have also found there is a bit larger learning curve for 3D printing than I originally thought but I'm having much more fun learning on the Robo because I have not had to deal with any breakdowns. It's pretty tough trying to learn on a machine that breaks down after one print and extremely frustrating when the company voids your warranty when you've had the machine less than two weeks. I paid more for the Robo R1+ than the DaVinci but after several months of use it is still working so in that respect it was well worth the higher price. Guess it proves you do get what you pay for!

Overall a fun and exciting piece of equipment. Definitely requires some upgrades to fine tune your prints. Nice thing is you can simply print those parts off and install them very easily.

I have never written a review on anything just because most review already say enough about the product, this one was different. I have wanted a 3D printer ever since I got to play with one at my school district's trade school and when they started making commercial 3D printers I couldn't wait. After saving up and doing a lot, and I mean a lot of research on all the different printers out there I decided on this one. I love my ROBO 3D R1 Plus...they have awesome customer support, easy maintenance and very few issues (so far). I would suggest going on YouTube and watching any videos about printed mods and upgrades, such as new feet for the printer for better airflow and stuff like that. I hope this helps someone else on their decision. Happy 3D printing!!!

Initially, I called Robo's sales support. The person, admittedly, said she was new. So new, she did not know any answers to my basic questions. She had to go and get an answer and return to the call constantly. Sympathetic to her situation, I was patient and thought, better service once actually purchased the printer if I couldn't figure it out. The product was easy to set up and first calibration print went and looked great. Then, it quit, completely. I could not print the second calibration due to no power. I called for tech support, the same person answered the call and she was now tech support providing no help. She had to go back and forth again with ideas of what could be wrong. I was told to check the fuse and take off the bottom panel. So, I'm working on it now and discover the fuse is on the outside of the unit. I'm told I could find a replacement fuse anywhere. It was a tiny little Buss fuse which I thought would have been difficult to find. But, it looked fine to me anyway. So, I was told a level 2 tech support would help. But, that service is not 24/7 and needed to wait until Monday for a call which never came in. So, I decided returned printer for another. The second printer had a different computer application, I had to restart the program every time I wanted to get the printer to move in the X/Y/Z directions. Then, the material wouldn't come out of the extruder. I uninstalled and reinstalled application and the extruder began to work. Oh yeah!, I thought. I printed 2 calibrations and a dog tag, Then the extruder quit again and no amount of restarting, reinstalling and tech support frustration would help. I was provided no help over the phone. I was sent limited information help emails and pictures that did not match my machine. I ask for verbal help; I was told the instructions would be the same as the limited info in the emails. During the three days I had the 2 machines, I went to the Robo forums and YouTube videos. They all express their problems, their fixes and their replacement parts. Not a techy, I was not comfortable reconfiguring and rebuilding a complicated machine to get it to work right out of the box. I had all kinds of ideas and plans for my printer and small business. My excitement to get started quickly changed to frustration and disappointment. And, so, returned the second machine ending a this exasperating experience.

Had trouble with about 3 of these before I got one that was delivered in good working condition. I think ROBO was having some production quality issues. Also, when the others where delivered, some wiring was either disconnected and in one case, completely broken as well as parts being disconnected. The one I have know came with some 3D printed protected guards that prevented the aforementioned issues from happening. i don’t want to forget to mention that ROBO’s 24 hour customer service is a great welcome. Now this machine is humming alone without any issues at all. All I can say is, the ROBO 3D R1 Plus printer is a nice printer and a great buy at 799.00.

Easy setup. Only had one issue with the first run,needed a little hairspray to get it to stick. After that no issues. Glad I spent the extra money on this unit.

Very unsatisfactory ! Both with printer and customer service from best buy. $800 printer worked 9 days and part malfunctioned when contacting best buy I got very awful attitude saying contact that manufacture not us. Two weeks later still haven't got anything resolved printer is useless . My last purchase from best buy period !

Bought one a couple weeks ago - Solid printer for it's price point, but like a lot of 3d printers is a little tempermental. Features an auto calibrating bed - for those of you who haven't used a non-calibrating bed, this feature alone makes the printer a solid buy. The huge build area and solid print resolution is a plus. Newbies: If you think a 3D printer is a plug-and-play experience, find a different hobby plan. But this one is pretty tame. First off - like ALL 3d printers, Bed Adhesion is a major issue. If you use strips of blue painters tape (I got 2" wide so I just need 5 strips to cover the build area) you don't need to do anything else (assuming PLA printing). My other one I had to use glass plates and hair spray to get anything to stick and even then it was touch & go. This printer will do ABS plastic as well, newbies be warned: This is NOT a happy way to learn 3d printing. Your nozzle WILL clog eventually - the documentation is poor on this but basically there's one screw to loosen and the metal bracket pops out, you can take the entire nozzle out and clear the jam (remember to cut off the plastic beforehand or you're going to have a heck of a time getting it out of there). Not too bad. Be REALLY careful of the smaller wires - my thermistor messed up on my first nozzle clog and I needed to replace it, which takes me to next point: 24/7 support is great. Email help was responsive, as were the techs. Ultimately my thermistor needed replacing (which is a total beast, so they just sent me an entire new hot end - a very easy replacement to do even for a non-nerd) with no fuss. Mattercontrol is one of the better software pieces I've worked with and streamlines the controls - a lot of the other software has a steeper learning curve. There's a few things I haven't managed to work out (like printing several DIFFERENT objects at once) but that's in my plan as soon as I have the new hot end replaced. Overall, great experience - there's better 3d printers out there, but not at this price point. If you're looking for an entry level printer this is a solid buy.

The Robo 3D - R1 Plus is a great 3D printer for prototyping or producing a small quantity of parts. The software provided with the 3D printer controls the printer, but is not a design tool. Other software will need to be obtained to design parts.

The Robo3D R1+ 3d printer is a great device. You would be hard pressed to find a printer with features like a self-levelling heated print bed and such a large build volume in the same price range. I have been using it for a year and have had no issues with the machine. I have logged over 1000 hours of print time on it with no problems.

I really don't think there is a better printer for beginners. It comes with tons of great and free software and the printer its self is already built and ready to go. I had my first prints started 10 min after unboxing. The print quality on it is very high and it can print a wide assortment of materials. PLA is the most popular but it handles ABS and PETG just as easy, love it.

I brought this home and though mine was one of thr few that did not work perfectly out of the box (my x/y axis were having issues), thier tech support was phenomenal. They helped me fix the issue quickly (10 minutes) and get printing. They also have great suggestions for beginners if you are having issues printing correctly. Fantastic product. Fantastic support.
