Guitar hero with a real guitar

Rocksmith is exactly what it's billed as--it's basically Guitar Hero but with a real guitar. Once you get the audio synced up with the visuals (I had no problems with my TV), it's easy to get started playing. The guitar tones sound great and the game is very accurate in knowing what you're playing, be it right or wrong. The songlist is varied and overall pretty good. If I could change two things, they would be: 1) I wish I could manually set the difficulty level--the game automatically changes it for you based on how well you're doing, so it's difficult to pass between players of different skill. And 2) I wish they had included a way to read the scrolling notes as tablature. The system they use is fine and fairly intuitive, but it still takes some learning. Beginners will likely be as occupied with learning how to play guitar as they are simply learning how to read the music.

I bought this for my son, who has been teaching himself to play guitar. He was a bit skeptical at first, but when i told him to give it a try, he couldn't stop playing with it! We hear the Rolling Stones and other artists over & over while he learns to play the different parts in the songs. He loves it! There are many different songs available and to be able to plug in his electric guitar to hear himself play, he can see and hear where he needs more practice. A video game that actually teaches our kids something good!

Rocksmith with Guitar and Bass is pretty cool. I've played bass for many years but this was fun to play. It gave some pretty easy songs so far for the Bass, but it was fun to play along with the actual songs. I have had Rocksmith for guitar since the game came out. I really like it, especially since I was transitioning over from Bass, it was a nice challenge and I learned a lot. I think the game is good for people of all ages and skill levels. It will provide instruction and practice at all levels. I do think the DLC is a bit expensive (average of $2.99 per song or $7.99 for a song pack), but the game comes with many great songs to help you progress without the DLC. But they have some really good DLC with a variety of genres (70s, 80s, metal, blues, and several artists like Rush and Nickelback and more) Overall, I'm pleased with this purchase... in my opinion it's the best game of its kind...

Definitely fun and teaches you specifics about the guitar everyone should know. The cord didn't necessarily recognize the notes I played, so make sure your pickups are set correctly ; ). Once that was settled IO spent hours playing.

It starts with the basics and you progress through at your pace. You will experience sore fingers and more than a few "that was hard moments". I like the variety of the songs included. I also like that I can re-try the same lesson over and over until I feel that I have the technique mastered. I found that if I only move forward after I felt comfortable then the next lesson was easier.

I bought this game for my older brother who suddenly decided to play guitar. He has been learning the basics with his friend but their schedule conflict with one another so I decided to give this game for him. My brother plays the game daily and has drastically improved from when he started. His friend was surprised how much my brother improved. I would recommend it to anyone who just wants to have fun or wants to learn how to play base or guitar.

Forget about those other music playing games where you're using an instrument shaped controller. THIS game has you playing you're real guitar and bass so it feels natural. The bulk of the game is playing a bunch of songs, either lined up in a "career" type mode, or choosing any song you like among more than fifty or so songs. The better you play the songs, the more you score. The notes thrown at you initially are just a few at a time and the better you play, the more notes are thrown at you till you've played all notes and essentially every note to an entire song! There's also a "challenge mode" that lets you practice different techniques that pertain to either guitar or bass. Nail those and ya get more points. And of course you can unlock stuff with all those points like pedals and amps, all giving you different sounds that you can customize in your set up!
Now the game and most reviewers boast the game teaches you how to play guitar. Well, I'll say that, if anything, it certainly shows you how to play certain songs. And if you can play those songs accurately, then I'd imagine ya learned how to play the guitar. For if not having learned how to play, then ya wouldn't have played the song. It also teaches newcomers techniques like bends, hammer ons n pull offs etc.
Seriously, some folks have gone out and bought a guitar just to play this game! And now they can kinda play a guitar!
Also, the 2 player mode is awesome because it allows your friend, spouse, significant other, kid or whatever to play along with you! And yes, one can play bass while the other plays guitar!

I was very surprised at how this game can really teach someone how to play guitar. I have been playing guitar for years and could not believe just how understandable they made this product for the untrained player. Even with my years of time playing i learned a thing or two. If you have someone in your life that wants to learn to really play guitar this could be the perfect gift to get them started.

I purchased Rocksmith for my son and he loves it. He has been taking guitar lessons and this is a great companion to those lessons. He also is learning bass with the Rocksmith and doing well. It's also a lot of fun! This was easy to set up and user friendly.

I started playing the guitar 15 years ago, but never got to play great and eventually gave up.
Rocksmith helped me find the motivation to pick up my guitar again, in a fun but challenging way.
My PS3 is hooked up to my Home Theater system through spdif (optical) connection, and I can definitely notice a delay between the moment I play a chord and the moment I can hear it through the speaker.
There is a fix (use analog connection), but I doesn't bother me enough to disturb my audio installation.
All in all, a great game.
