Excellent learning tool for someone wanting to learn to play the guitar. Gameplay is much like Guitar Hero except you're using an actual guitar as a controller so you're learning real chords to real songs. However, it doesn't have a feature where it shows the fingerings for the chords being played. So there's a bit of guess work as to how you play the notes. However, it DOES show the string and the fret to press down. Just not what fingers to use.

If you have a child learning to play a guitar or bass, and is struggling Rocksmith is the best way for him or her to learn to play guitar or Bass guitar. don't lose the instructor it doesn't teach you how to read music. Take is from this 43 year old Rocksmith is a great tool to learn how to play songs and the instrument. The skill building tools like scales and techniques really put to shame most of the instructional software on the market these days. downloadable content is affordable just not rated a Parent really shouldn't worry in my opinion. With State budgets tightening and art/music not being a priority as it once was, and the next on the chopping block. Rocksmith get a definite ***** star rating.

I got this for Christmas, and I'm have a blast with it. Lot of great jams on it and can add a lot more from on line source. I have a 1968 Kay semihollow body electric guitar, plugged right in working great.

Rocksmith is a great game for learning to play guitar! The game starts by teaching you some good basics to be able to play the game and learn songs quickly.

Game is great, sound is amazing, fun mini-games and song "leveler" system makes it easy to learn :)

The game changes it's level of difficulty all the time depending on how well you are playing. If the game doesn't teach you how to play then it will certainly help out a lot by getting you to move your hand up and down frets with using all fingers

Once you are in the game it is great fun. The only issues are learning how to deal with "Stream" and finding the exit to close the game.

Over all the game is an excellent teaching tool and could be used on its own or with live instruction as an added tool. The Cord is a little touchy but works. My only real complaint is not having access to the learning games from the beginning. These games teach scales, chords and other basics needed to play the songs.

The best software out there for any purpose - even better than Taxcut. This may be considered a game, but not to me - this is a practical way to learn something that you can use for the rest of your life. Fun! Fun! Fun! Wow - I have talked this program up to everyone I know and don't know. I was up to 1.5M points and the XBox broke. Lost all my points with the replacement - Darn!. I would spend a week at a time without improving my score, but working on things that i enjoyed. The program wants you to explore new things and rewards you with higher scores by doing so. The program is not heavy into music theory, but gives you enough about chords to get you going in the right direction - right away. Trememdous diversity in what you can learn through playing songs, playing the games, using the amp simulators, or going through the various riff repeater options. I have a lot to learn but feel that over the past year and a few months - i have come a long way, and had a great experience at the same time. I wish the program could swich users more quickly so that 2 people could play alternately without losing too much time. Also, the tuner is great, but I think should be set optionally by the user at a time rate determined by the user - not on every song, etc. Also, what about an intonation check? I have found that i would hit the low E first or second fret notes and not get credit for them and that if i shifted the tuning slightly - i would score better. Also, it would be nice if the tuner could be varied to correlate with a remote tuner, or give some indication of frequency. Adding a few Jimmy Hendrix songs to the mix would be a great addition too. This program with cable costs the equivalent to 1 hour of music lessons, and there is no comparison - RockSmith hands down!

Best learn to play application on the market.

I have been plucking away at my base for over a year now. I can play a couple tab songs but not great. In just two hours of playing with Rocksmith I have advanced my skills playing by leaps and bounds. It makes practicing fun and who doesn't like having fun and learning at the same time. All you need is either a guitar or bass and Rocksmith package. It comes with the cable to plug in to your guitar if you buy the boxed version. I am reviewing the Guitar/Bass version because i bought Rocksmith guitar and then upgraded to the bass via digital download so its the same thing as this with no changes. If you always wanted to learn to play either you have to get this to get you started.
