The roku player would seem unessessary however it's functionality coupled with a great user interface makes this roku player a great streaming point. I have the roku 3 as well and am very pleased with it as well.

We have had this product the Roku 1 about 6 weeks. Does the job but is the basic connection. The remote would be better if it the buttons would light so you could see functions. If you need to connect an older TV that does not have hdmi or usb to internet in order to stream it the Roku 1 does this very well with the ability to watch some free channels. Most are not worth wasting time to see what the offer or have older shows/moves that are good but with a lot of ads. Actually we like our Roku 4 better though it offers mostly the same channels but gives a better picture quality.

I already own a Roku 3 and a 4th Gen Apple TV, but I needed something for my older tube type tv in my basement. The Roku 1 has composite connectors to match my older tv. Now I can get a couple thousand channels, and by downloading the Time Warner Cable app, I can access my TWC channels on that tv without a cable box (so no rental fee). Pretty good for $50. It's a bit slower than my Roku 3, but more than adequate, especially given all I get for the price. If your tv has HDMI, pay a little more for the Roku 3. If not, I definitely recommend the Roku 1 to smarten up your older, dumb tv!

This is my first streaming device. I finally settled on a Roku but I didn't know which Roku to buy. Im glad I brought a Roku 1 because I can stream Netflix, Youtube, HBOgo, Showtime anytime, and Hulu. The Roku 1 can also be connected to my older TV and newer TVs.

This is a great deal. I've enjoyed hours of commercial free tv viewing. I've caught up on lots of great shows. This is my 3rd one. Its a great gift for people who don't have cable. Make sure you buy a Roku that works with older tv's if they have older tvs.

Works good. Easy to set up. A lot of choices with different apps but a few are free. The rest you have to pay for it. I use the most for Netflix, Pandora and YouTube. The price is a little high. I will like to have more options with languages when you use the subtitles.

Streaming movies, Facebook, YouTube and a thousand other apps, this product is more then you could handle. You can link your smartphone to use as a remote and see your photos on the screen, as well as listen to your own music. Highly recommended for older TVs.

We dumped our expensive cable provider and bought a local channel TV antenna and this Roku 1. Works with either HDMI or AV cables. Using it in the living room with HDMI. Liked it so much we bought another and used the AV cable for the old TV in our basement.

Works great with old non HD televisions. .I needed a device to enable me to stream programing to my old TV. the Roku 1 was the only device that I found that would work. The Roku 1 works as advertised and fills the gaps in programing for me inexpensively

I heard about this product from a friend...did a little research and discovered I could turn any TV into a smart TV! But you cannot browse the internet. You link up to any multi-media source.

I have one of the first Vizio flatscreen TVs that came out and wanted to be able to get Netflix. The Roku is perfect for it. I have had no problems with it, and it is very user-friendly! Definitely worth the money if you don't want to upgrade your TV!

I purchased Roku, it was simple to set up, and it offered a variety of TV channels to choose from, including me fav (A&E and Netflix). I signed up for Sling tv, which offers ESPN,and I've been enjoying TV for only $20/month ever since with no issues!!

I wanted Roku for an older TV and this worked perfectly. I thought about purchasing a smart TV but that would have been so much more expensive than just buying this device. It was very reasonably priced and easy as could be to hook up. Love it!

This Roku is a wonderful performer and doesn't take up very much room. I am able to hook it up to the HD TV's, but also it has the capability to work with my older big screen projection unit with RCA plugs. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

I also have Apple TV and GOOGLE Google Chromecast but they do not seem to get the channels I get though the Roku. This one I bought as a gift for a person with an older TV that did not have HDMI and it works great connects with RCA cable ..

The Roku allowed me to bring netflix to tv in bedroom...I love that I could run the cable through the Roku, in doing so it has given me more channels. The only thing I don't like is I can't add channels or apps that I want such as PBS kids app.

Stream movies from my iMac to my TV flawlessly and wirelessly with no hiccups or delays whatsoever. And that is on top of all the different channels like Plex, Netflix, Showtime, Hulu Plus, etc. And for $50, it's worth every dollar and more.

I purchased to use on my HDTV for streaming movies from Netflix, Hula, and Amazon. I am very satisfied with the speed and quality of reception that I receive. Ease of use is also great.

I already have a smart blu-ray player, but the offerings and ease of use of the Roku I is far superior to the blu-ray player. Many channels to choose from, both free and paid. Easy to set up and the system never seems to hesitate or lock up.

I bought this streaming device to use in guest bedroom. Installation was easy but remote control and downloading the app using this device is little annoying. Navigation from app to app is not convenient. Other than that, it streams great.
