many of these units shipped defective, with constant loud fan noise rendering them unusable. not mine. used on a true 4k 2.2 compliant tv, this does play uhd content and the fan has not made a sound in over a few hundred hours of fairly nonstop use since purchase. better, faster, than roku 3 used before. rave!!!

    Great device for streaming

This is my first Roku box. In the past, I've used a Sony Bluray player and a Chromecast to stream Netflix and video files stored on my Synology NAS. The Bluray player is actually pretty good for streaming, but it has a relatively slow and clunky interface. The Chromecast, while cheap and very feature rich, provides a horrible user experience, in my opinion. The phone app, which you use to control the Chromecast, will randomly disconnect from the Chromecast. I also prefer using a standalone remote control for streaming services rather than using my phone. POSITIVES: For me, the Roku is a wonderful upgrade for streaming. The interface, while not very modern looking, is efficient. The Roku itself is very responsive jumping from service to service. I currently use it for Netflix, Hulu, TWC TV, and playing shows from my NAS. I've tried a few of the other free channels, but I they are full of commercials so I avoid them even when the content is good. The remote works very well, but I've also programmed my Harmony universal remote to use the Roku. NEGATIVES: Many users have reported that this unit is prone to overheating and fan noise. I am lucky, as my Roku 4 is almost silent. In the earlier weeks of using it, it did tend to freeze and require unplugging/replugging it in, which I assumed was due to overheating. Ever since, I've moved it out of an enclosed shelf and raised it so air can move underneath it. This and the recent firmware updates seem to have eliminated the freezing. OTHER THOUGHTS: If 4K support is not something you need, I think the Roku 3 is a better bet. That box does not run nearly as hot and has all the same features. That model has been out for a longer period, while the Roku 4 is relatively new. I use the Roku 3 in the bedroom, and it runs just a tad slower. Not an issue at all.

Set up was a little time consuming, but simple. The box works great, with great picture quality. I really like the ability to plug headphones into the remote, allowing me to watch tv while the wife sleeps. Some have complained about it being loud, but I have it in my entertainment center and I don't hear a thing. I now have a hard time watching regular tv because it doesn't allow me to pause or rewind.

I have multiple Roku's throughout my house and that I have installed for other people and the latest version doesn't disappoint. A fair bit bigger than the 2 or 3, so it won't hide behind a TV the same way that the smaller units will, but they aren't 4k capable, so it's a worthwhile tradeoff. Thing to watch out for is the 4 gets really warm if you cover it, so make sure it has plenty of breathing room!

I have owned one of every generation of Roku and each model has been a step up from the last. They all worked well with my Panasonic plasma, and now I have a Sony 4K, so I figured I might as well have a device that can stream 4K content (what little there is so far). The Roku 4 does that, and even regular HDTV quality stuff is sharper and clearer, or so it seems. I enjoy using the remote, too. It fits snugly in the hand, and has a plug-in notch for headphones to allow private listening and has volume control buttons, as well as buttons that link you directly to Netflix, amazon video, Sling and rdio. Roku 4 is just about the best streaming device out there, even better that the new Apple TV, which doesn't yet handle 4k content and will probably never give you access to amazon prime stuff. If you want cutting edge streaming, this is it.

Roku's are always popular and they perform really well. I bought Roku4 just because I have a 4k TV. Unfortunately not a lot of 4k videos are available. I'm hoping for this to change and benefit from my purchase. On the other hand, Roku4 becomes so hot that the fans keeps running and making a big noise all the time having me to increase the volume. Otherwise Roku4 is the best

Cutting the cord was never easier

We decided to cut the cord when we moved last month. However we wanted to maintain our streaming services: Hulu, Netflix & Amazon tv. My research of the Roku suggested this was the device to bring them all together plus give us other options like HBO go. Also the 4 gave us 4k ability, so we were future-proofing ourselves. One month in, and with a SlingTV subscription, the whole family has easily adapted to the Roku. It's easy to use, has a small form factor so it doesn't standout, comes with a simple remote with a built in headphone jack that my kids and wife have already started using. Though I wish the remote was backlit. The workaround (and benefit) is the ability to control Roku from your mobile phone. All said, the Roku 4 has been a great purchase and has made cutting the cord so easy. Many pros and almost no cons for this device IMO. I'd recommend looking at videos on YouTube or on the Roku site to see how easy it is to work. Even reviews on Amazon give it standout ratings in comparison to Apple TV - which we have too (v1). Still we are about to purchase a second Roku 4 for our new 4K tv. Our current Roku set up is: - Panasonic Plasma 3D tv - Panasonic Bluray DVD - Roku 4

    Roku 4 - Great Product.

Until I purchased the Roku 4 I always used my PC to stream. I have been using this product quite a bit for the last month and a half and I am very satisfied with it. The device makes streaming super convenient and easy. The video quality is great. The Audio on some channels (YouTube, Vevo) is a bit distorted but on others (Netflix, HBO GO) it is perfectly fine. I'm hoping future updates to the channels will fix the audio issues, The device is very quick to navigate. There is no excessive fan noise coming from my Roku. I have a 4K TV and wanted to stream some of my shows in 4K but unfortunately the 4k Seiki TV I have is not HDCP 2.2 and the Roku will not send a 4K signal to it. I did get a splitter that did 'fool' the roku into passing a 4k signal but it seemed that I was able to only get YouTube to stream in 4k. Regardless, I was so happy with this Roku I ended buying 2 Roku SE's one for my parents and one for a friend of mine.

The Roku 4 is my first foray into the streaming world, and I could not be happier so far with this unit. You can view 2,500+ streaming channels, and some presets like Hulu, Netflix are already there. In addition you can get free trails of many of the paid streaming services. Also, there are many, many free channels to view. One of my favorites is the Smithsonian channel which I do not get in my satellite package, but here with Roku it's free. You can also stream 4K Ultra HD if you have a 4K TV. At the moment though, there is not much 4K content out there, but in the near future, I'm sure there will be. Another cool feature is voice search. Just say what you're looking for into the enhanced remote and get fast and comprehensive search results by title, actor, or director. I highly recommend the Roku 4 if you have a 4K Ultra HD tv, or plan on buying one in the near future. If not, the the Roku 3 will be just as good.

I bought this product becuase all the blu-ray players I purchased for online streaming media were suer slow and would freeze the screen; especially Sony products. This device is quad core so it is super fast and really easy to setup and use. I Love it!

    1. Hardware setup fast and easy. 2. Software setup took a little longer. A couple of services we a little difficult to setup, but all in all not bad. 3. Speed great. (Both wireless and wired) I'm using wired 200Mbp; no problems. 4. Remote is easy to operate. I have not used voice commands or apps.

I was a victim of the loud fan problem. It was so loud you could not hear the tv over it. The unit would get insanely hot as well. This was my first roku so this was dissappointing. The machine itself was great though. Movement was snappy and ultra responsive. I assume they will fix the fan problem eventually. I traded mine in for the roku 3 and love it! I do miss the speediness of the 4 though. You can definately tell a difference.

Love it because I'm able to choose what I want to watch, when I want to watch it, please I have been able to view shows and movies that are not available through my cable provider because it's on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. I hate it because I am hooked! I binge watch all these new shows that I never knew existed so I'm becoming more of a hermit. The Roku box works really well. I love the feature that I can control the remote from my phone. I'm always misplacing the darn remote but my phone is always handy. I only wish I could connect to the internet to browse other sites. But the apps available to browse on Roku is endless.

I own the new Apple TV 32g and the last model Apple TV! I also own the Roku 3 & 4 and I prefer the Roku to the Apple TV. Apple TV has changed some, w/now using Siri to find any thing on your tv apps, but I like the way the Roku functions. Its user friendly and you have more channel options with the Roku. You can set It up to list all the channels (free & paid) where the actor's movie is playing! I've only had it for several weeks now, but I love it!

The 4K picture is great, the upscale picture is very close to the 4K picture. Roku added many extra features cooling fan, voice search, home theater audio. This has to be the best streaming device on the market.

I am very happy with the Roku 4. I had the Roku 3, and this is much faster. The only drawback is that you can't change the quick access buttons to different streaming services. Other than that, it's great & I would definitely recommend it.

I did a lot of research on streaming players and it came down to Roku and Apple. Either would have done the job but the Roku is at a lower price point and offers 4K! What is not to like! So far it has worked flawlessly! My only gripe at this time is it tends to getting fairly warm, almost hot. Doing some additional research to see if this an issue. It has had no bearing on the performance. My only other gripe, you can not play your iTunes movies. That could be a major problem for some users with an extensive iTunes library. Might even be a deal breaker. The work around to play iTunes movie is too convoluted. This issue is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.

    The Best Roku Ever

I consider myself an early adopter. This is my 5th Roku. I bought my 1st for the purpose of viewing Netflix. Early on that was about the only streaming the device was capable of doing. Streaming was relatively new. Over time with the introduction new features were added. So now we have the Roku 4, the top of the line of a who new series of devices that not only allow streaming of Netflix, but a host of other services from music to custom streams of your choice. So much for services, it is the new hardware designed into the Roku 4. It is 4K capable if you are fortunate enough to have one. I do not, but I still see a visual improvement with my 1080p capable TV. I also see an improvement in speed of accessing program content. The 4 is has the largest footprint of all the Roku devices, but for me that has not been an issue. It fits in the same space as my old device. One of the things that you might consider is the return of the optical audio connector that was missing on previous devices. However, if you have a receiver or TV that is capable of carrying over HDMI than that won'the be an issue. There is also an app for both Android and IOS that allows you to use your Smartphone as a remote. The app even has a power button something that the included remote does not have that allows you to power off the Roku. The included remote has an earphone jack for private listening and a button on the device that allows you to find the remote should it drop out of sight. The bottom line is have found this to be a feature rich device that is well worth its premium cost that makes it the best A a Roku ever.
