Great streaming box.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned a Roku 3 (2013 model) for awhile now, and absolutely loved it. Roku has all the streaming services I use, with a very user friendly interface. The Roku 4 has a quad core processor which gives snappy performance in both menus, and speed of loading content, a better 801.11ac wireless antenna for faster and more stable wireless streaming, a remote with built in mic for voice search, a button on top of the Roku that allows you to find your remote if you can't find it. I don't have a 4K TV, but all the other features were enough incentive for me to upgrade from my Roku 3. Some customers have complained about the Roku 4 having a fan, and while it does produce a sound, I can verify that it is only a low hum that I only notice when I have my ear right next to the unit.

Roku 4 - Still the best choice
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a Roku 3 and Apple TV and I just added the new Roku 4 to the mix. I love all 3 products for different reasons, which is why I have both brands. Roku's benefits are the fact that they give you all of the major streaming subscriptions including Amazon, more onboard memory and good processing speed to improve performance, software interface is easy for all members of the household, and the headphone connection in the remote is a plus for quiet late-night viewing. Roku 4 adds many technical and functional improvements, such as 4K compatibility. I purchased the Roku 4 for the 4K compatibility and to have a Roku with both household TV's. Roku comparison: https://www.roku.com/products/compare If you want just one streaming device for your TV, go with Roku 3 or Roku 4.

Great streaming option
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this after reviewing my options including the Amazon Fire tv and PS4. PS4 was too expensive and I own a ROKU3, which I put on my other TV. Like the option for 4K streaming ,as I have a 4K TV, and recent addition of the PS VUE app. I dumped cable, but there are some channels I can't do without. Set up was a snap and is subjectively faster and has a better quality picture on most apps I use. I also noticed that it got very warm even when not in use as some reviewers have complained, but if you go to settings and choose the Power Saving option, it appears to turn the unit off after a period of non use. This seems to alleviate the problem and should extend the life of it. I have not noticed any noise at all from the fan. I do wish ROKU would adopt the same channel guide for PS VUE as on the Fire TV and PS4. It is very cumbersome to navigate and see whats going to be on more than one channel at a time. If I had known this, I might have gone with the Fire TV box. This Roku now has voice search, but it doesn't include shows on the PS VUE yet. Otherwise it seems to work fairly well. Has a great 4K screensaver too. It's a worthwhile upgrade from the 3 and Best Buy honored the lower price Roku sent me in an email, saving 20$$. Don't miss cable at all.

Great convenience and quality
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 4K video quality is subperb and it is very easy to run through an AV receiver in a home theatre. I liked it so much, that I bought a second unit for my second home theatre. One caveat: make sure that your TV monitor has an hdcp 2.2-compliant hdmi input to receive the true 4K signal. I was an early adopter of 4K and bought one of the first 4K monitors released, which lacks the 2.2-compliant hdmi input and related software necessary to input a true 4K signal; it does, however, upscale the 1080p output of this unit to 4K. Not the fault of the Roku unit. In fact, I'm planning on buying a 3rd unit for my vacation home.

Excellent Video and Audio
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Simple setup. Plug it in and finish setup online at Roku. The Video and audio quality is outstanding. This Version 4 is much faster than the previous version 3. My one gripe - no voice search on the remote.

excellent picture transfer, slow controller
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Roku 4 sets up very similar to other Roku's. Connection to the WIFI NetGear router was easy and has worked very well. The clarity of the picture from HD and 4k sources to a 4K tv is very good to excellent. As with the other Roku models large amount of selection for various apps. On the down side, the unit will infrequently freeze when using the search function. Additionally, when scrolling thru content, the scroll will occasionally continuously run without stopping for 5 or 10 seconds. As has been pointed out in other reviews the unit does not have an off switch. This must be accessed thru the settings function. When in continuous run, the unit will get warm, but has not been overly hot or noisy. Compared to a Roku 2 which was previously attached to the 4K tv [Samsung], the picture for the same HD offerings thru the various Apps is better. The Remote controller is set up very similar to the controllers for the Roku 2 & 3 Models, however the select button is set under the direction keys, as opposed to simply being in the middle of the arrow key. This is more distracting that the other model set-ups. The remote has a light cheaper feel than the other models, which may due to the size of the batteries and battery cover. Overall, the picture quality transfer is very good, and the app selection is expansive. Would recommend this over a Roku 2 or 3 based on the upscaling capability for HD content, and the ability to transfer 4K

Total Surprise how nice.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great menu, stellar picture. Must be the processor. Easy to set up. Should have bought one long time ago. Perfect for a TV where you have no cable connection and do not want to pay for an extra.

Solid 4k streaming device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had considered several different streaming devices but I wanted something that had 4k capabilities. After weighing my options the roku ended up having the broadest offerings of streaming services. You can watch amazon streaming on the roku as well as google streaming, however on the close competitor (the fire tv) you could not stream google services. So I chose the roku. The remote is a little... clunky compared to other remotes I have tried, but it does not feel cheap or anything. I have had it now for a while and it has giving me no issues and performed great. At the time of writing this it's probably my top pick if you need 4k streaming.

Roku 4 is an improvment
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I previously had the Roku 2 which kept overheating and rebooting, upgraded to the 4th generation Roku, and it's night and day comparison. the device is fast and picture quality is way way better than I expected. I have the cooling mode set to on which tends to make the fan run little louder, but only if you have someone with real sensitive hearing around.

Better than Apple TV 4
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this on the launch weekend because I wanted to stream the Rugby World Cup and it delivered. Roku cannot be matched for variety of content, there are channels you never thought existed. If you connect via ethernet cable, streaming quality is the best. I have a 3rd-gen Apple TV and it jitters on high usage nights like Fridays & Saturdays. 4K looks really good, and the UI is simple and easy to use. The only slight gripe is that if you're committed to the Apple ecosystem there are a few things you might miss like iTunes but other than that I think it is the better, more feature-packed streamer ... for now.

Great Picture, but a little finicky
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the Roku 4 because Roku offers the best programming, and wanted to upgrade from my Roku 2. I was tempted to get the new Apple TV, but opted for the Roku 4 instead. The Roku definately is a great upgrade from my Roku 2, but it has proven to be a little finicky. It has frozen for me a couple of times for no apparent reason, but most of the time it works just fine. The picture quality is spectacular, but the WIFI connectivity leaves much to be desired. If you plan to get the Roku 4 know that you definately need to have it wired. Wifi connection just won't do. I'm glad I went with the Roku 4.

ROKU has a lot of free content
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have not tested the 4K streaming since I do not own a 4K TV. The unit is very fast. I have not noticed any fan noise and the unit is warm but not hot. The search feature only searches the pay channels such as Netflex, Amazon, MGO, and Google. It would be nice if the search would include all of the subscribed channels such as HBO, Showtime, EPIX, etc. It also would be nice if the preprogrammed buttons could be reprogrammed to different channels. For example, the RDIO button is useless since that channel has been discontinued. It would be nice if you could reprogram that button for Pandora.

Roku loyalist
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned most of all the Roku products from the XS, Roku 2, Roku 3 and now this big mother of them all Roku 4. People complained about being hot but only stays hot if you leave on all the time but there's a power off in 30 minutes when not in use that will cool it down and expand the life of the Roku 4. People thinks that the other Rokus doesn't have that problem when idling but who cares. I bought this for the intentions for 4K and speed. So try it out if you like. If not stay with Roku 3.
