Great for making HDTV's into a smart TV

It offers many apps some have monthly fees and some are free depending what you like. You will need access to an internet connection as this works through the internet, however, you do not need cable and it does not offer local channels you would need to get an antenna for local channels. Best Buy offered this Roku with the Leaf 50 (inside antenna) which gives local channels, at a good package price.
