I bought this so we could watch netflix and other programs uninterrupted we haven't had cable for quite awhile and the antenna is sketchy. I bought this and I am impressed. There are a lot of free channels and channels you can pay for at an affordable price.
I really have no complaints about the device and it's VERY easy to set up. All you do is plug it in and then go online to activate it, then you select your channels either online or through the device.
The only complaint I have is with the Roku website, but that has nothing to do with the device. I think the website should have a delete channel option so it makes the navigation easier.

Cheapest way to get a great smart tv

This bare bones, wireless only streaming device is amazingly easy and feature packed. Love getting pandora and love searching across a few popular providers. Very easy setup.
It heats up a lot. I have been unplugging it when not in use. I'm worried about this causing a short lifespan. This concern is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars.

I Absolutely love this Roku . Easy set up. Simple. Great price, and shows clear! I don't even have an hd tv. With this it sure does feel like it. Now I'm back to watching netflix now and everything'. All smiles

This is the player to get for basic HDMI Roku service. It is easy to use and understand. It does lag at times but not to an annoying level.
I would recommend this one if price is crucial. Otherwise, I would recommend the $99 Roku 3.

Loved it when it worked

I have been a Roku owner for a year now. In this year, I've bought two for my family, and two as gifts for parents. Up until yesterday, I have loved my Rokus. Set up was simple, picture quality was great, and my kids could easily use it too. However, yesterday the Roku in the master bedroom, which gets very little use, wouldn't power up. I tried it with the power cable on our main tv Roku, still no power. Roku support could only suggest a reset before they recommended I buy another one - and I was in luck - they're on sale! Wahoo!
I'm not sure when it died since it hadn't been used for at least several weeks, but when I discovered it, it was a few days before the one year anniversary of the unit being activated.
While I still love my working Roku, I hesitate to purchase another unit. Less than a year of use just isn't a good track record, and I'm surprised that Roku doesn't stand behind it's product for a full year. I definitely won't be gifting any more Rokus, and most likely won't chose to replace my purple brick. Major bummer.

Roku LT or Roku 3 ?

I have to Roku LTs. Sure, they are great for the price but the connection for me just wasn't good enough... ever. Whether it was next to my router/modem or upstairs, connectivity seemed to be an issue. I recently purchased the Roku 3 after reading the reviews. It's impressive on paper, and even better in hand. I highly recomend you go out and spend $40 more to get the Roku 3. Headphone gizmo is cool, no waking up the family, the connection is awesome and super fast. Read some of the reviews, here is one of many out there.

I got this mainly to watch Netflix and Amazon instant Video. It does both well, and more. I like the features for the price. I get exactly what I want and only pay $49.99. My only complaint is entering text through the remote is a little slow.

quick... picture the Roku media player in your mind. it is 1/4 the size of whatever you're picturing. this device is very compact and streams Netflix and has a facebook app. I have an old CRT TV in my bedroom, this unit has AV hookups that will fit my old TV. definitely breathed new life into my old TV. I love this product and would highly recommend it. whoever invented this deserves an award.

This device works perfectly fine on a standard T.V. If you haven't upgraded to a HDTV or 3DTV or whatever we have now a days, this device is best for your standard TV's.

Roku won't replace my defective unit.

I purchased a Roku less than a month ago because my parents have had theirs for more than a year and really like their Roku. Within days of setting up my Roku it would cut out in the middle of a show saying it could not connect with the internet. Strange really, since my laptop was not experiencing the same problem. It was also restarting mysteriously in the middle of shows and would take up to five minutes to reboot. I was within the 30 days though right? So I thought I could send it back and get a replacement.
Only problem is you have to pay the twelve dollars shipping to get Roku's broken unit back to them. I then spent FOUR hours on line with their customer "Support" on two different days. Their solution to the internet problem sort of worked at least it is cutting out in the middle of shows less. But their "help" to figure out why it was restarting itself at least once a day consisted of having me turn the unit off and on again in four different ways to reset the unit. This continued to be their solution even when earlier attempts to turn it off and then on again had failed to fix the problem.
Please think very carefully about purchasing this product. Do not rely on their 30 Day Guarantee. There is no real help if your product is broken, they do not stand behind their product.

Terrible setup instructions and online chat

Got this for Xmas, spent an hour waiting for ROKU live chat to assist (#132 in queue)!! Once I got someone, didn't respond to them quick enough, got kicked off and had to start again. Almost gave up and then spoke with my router/internet provider and got things up and running--for 1 day. Went back a few weeks later to use this, won't connect to internet, same live chat problems (though only #32 in queue), again got disconnected. Got back on and after doing things I had already thought of myself, finally convinced them the unit was faulty. There is absolutely no "troubleshooting" help either with the product or online so look to other users for help (via facebook, etc).
