ROOTS First Edition as co-directed by Alex Haley. A classic and historical buy. Now you can see at anytime, the TV series that held the black community in front of their TVs for a whole week. It was a great family time. And the story line was fantastic and true.

I felt totally touched by the series and had to make an effort after each episode not to watch the next immediately this is a great story.

I enjoyed the original movie and especially enjoyed this saga because it's more relatable to my era, during the 70's.

The Next Generations is not as good as the original Roots, but it is a fast way to learn a little history. It saves time from reading books, but it is only one interpretation of the events. The price was right for 4 discs.

Great second series to Roots! Knowing where we came from helps to get us where we are tying to go!

This historical reference to the experience during slavery is horrible to see, but necessary.

This is something I will share with my family for years

had to have it as I have the original Roots series and wasn't even aware this existed, haven't had time to watch it yet

had all the original ones, didn't even know there was a sequel and I am looking forward to watching it

Like the other reviewer I st by my tv mesmerized- see back then we did not have dvd, vcr, or tivo- you watched it and could not walk out of the room without missing something so you had everything all prepared- snacks and all so your eyeballs could say glued to the acting and storyline- what amazing facts we all learned and how the people had changed after watching this- it was a piece of history in a miniseries that will not be replaced or forgotten. This is a classic for all- and everyone should ewatch at least once in thier lives. Amazing talent, producing- pure heart and artistry.

I watched this in the 70s when it was released on TV and was riveted to the set every night! It made MY ancestors come alive and got me interested in MY history as well. Since then, I have been able to trace one family line back to 1460. I think that this is a classic series. One of the keepers for your DVD collection!

I remember watching this series with my mom in the 70's. She was mesmerized by it and so was I. I will make sure to watch it with my kids this summer and have indepth conversation with them. Like the above writer said Its a Keeper.
