    Pretty good sound bar

This is my first venture into soundbar/audio for my TV territory, so I'm a newbie when it comes to this. The soundbar itself is okay. Its probably the weakest part of the whole setup. I am hooked into my Samsung KS8000(2016) via ARC, which I think was better than the optical cable. At the very least, it talks to my TV and I can turn them on and off and control the volume with one remote, as well as presets. Anyway, a bit clearer, but not what I was sold on in terms of improvement in sound. I guess either my expectations are too high for the price point (in that case I will always be disappointed), or I just don't know enough about soundbars. But I thought the sound on my Samsung TV was pretty good for what is was. The subwoofer is super powerful. I live in a studio apartment, have it on -12, and I'm a bit worried sometimes. Easy to turn up on the remote. Music I can hear the bass. Also synced right up via the bluetooth, before I could realize what was happening. Its also worth it, if not necessary) to add the rear wireless speakers to give a full experience. I think had i not purchased these, I would have not kept the soundbar. They also synced up super easy without a problem. I havent tweaked anything, nor do I really know what I'm doing, but it seems that the source of content, not just blu-ray or cable, but from movie to movie, station to station, will change the quality of the sound. Watching stranger things on Netflix sounded awesome, suicide squad on HBO was fantastic, some other content I could barely tell the difference between the TV speakers and this. BT hookup to another device is pretty straightforward, more than the instruction booklet might let you believe. Can't find a good explanation of how to set these up, nor what the technology does to get the best experience, from Samsung or the internet, Got these on a sale where the soundbar was on sale, and the rear speakers were on sale if you bought the combo. I would not pay a cent more for this. Took a few days to convince me to keep them.

Alright so I don’t usually go out of my way to leave reviews but something must be said for how embarrassingly weak the bass is in this system. For a 7” sub I expected much more but the thing barely shakes the floor at full capabilities. Very disappointing, but at least the sound quality is crisp. If you love bass, stay away from Samsung and go with Vizio; that stuff will shake your windows.

I have two other higher end sound bars in my house. I bought this for a average size bedroom. The bar itself with all the settings is nice. Very clear and crisp. I was not looking for a high end unit that's why I chose to limit the price I'd pay for this bedroom. The sub paired as soon as I plugged it in. The only issue is the subs power or should I say lack of. I have the sub level pinned the loudest possible (+6) and it's just barley loud enough.

Was looking to buy soundbar and subwoofer wireless for my leaving room I read bestbuy reviews on soundbar was looking at the 2.1 but since my leaving room is kind of big decided to go with the 3.1 since it had more power then the 2.1 version so I bought it got home put it on and got to say I was blown away for its size sounded really good way better then just having tv speakers and tried the Bluetooth to hear music couldn't be happier sounds good in my leaving room very clear sound no distortion just right for my needs I will recommend it if looking not to spend a lot of money this is it but do your homework read reviews that's what I did and happy with it good quality build.

I really wanted to like this soundbar. I bought this to replace my 3 year old Vizio 2.1 soundbar which I bought for $150. When I got it home, I immediately ran into issues setting it up. It simply wouldn't work when trying to connect it via HDMI ARC. I went online, did a little research, and decided to try and update the firmware. Fortunately, being the nerd that I am, I had a USB to Micro USB adapter laying around which is the only way you can update the firmware. It doesn't have a full size USB port, only a micro, so if you don't have one you'll have to order it online. It's cheap, but it's annoying that you have to have one. Anyways, I updated the firmware and finally got HDMI ARC working (had to unplug power from TV and Soundbar after updating) and I thought I was good to go. I queued up some music from my phone and played it through my Chromecast and immediately noticed that the subwoofer volume was super low. I adjusted the bass setting to +6 and the subwoofer setting to +6 and still barely any bass. BACK TO THE INTERNET to research this and as it turns out, it's a known issue with many of Samsung's lower end soundbars and this one (the HW-M550) is one of them. I called Samsung and they weren't able to fix it so now I'll be returning it to Best Buy. I would avoid this soundbar unless you want to take the chance on getting one that doesn't work and isn't fixable without sending it in to Samsung.

This soundbar and subwoofer were easy to install with my old Samsung purchased in 2010. The subwoofer doesn't add anything to the sound, in my opinion, but I hooked it up anyway. I connected the soundbar via cord and not bluetooth. The only complaint I have is that it takes several seconds for the sound to come on when I turn on the tv, which is annoying.

The sound on our tv alone is louder than what comes out of this soundbar. It needs to be on at least a 20 to hear it. . .and we do not have a very big room. When listening from the DVD player, it needs to be even louder and even quite a bit louder to listen to music via Bluetooth from the phone. Now, when it's up to 90. . it IS bumping, but I just don't understand the need for that. . .again, we don't have a big room. Our room isn't conducive to install rear speakers, but we shouldn't HAVE to to get good sound. . if that's the case, then why not just sell it as an entire set? I even called Samsung and they tried to help me troubleshoot (which I had already done before calling) and their final recommendation was to return it. We had much better sound from our Vizio 2.1, but it only lasted a year (however we paid less than half the price). Certainly expected more from this and was quite disappointed.

For cable TV the sound and bass response wascreally good with the Samsung HW-550/ZA 3.1 soundbar, but with an iPhone 6S there was very little bass. Then we connecred it to a Samsung Galaxy Pro tablet and the bass response was really heavy, even at low volume. We play 70's and country/western music. Using the advanced setup in the Samsung tablet brought out the bass to where it overwhelmed the lyrics. The sound bar really deserves a 5 star but disappointed that it desn't sound very good using an iPhone. In our prior life, we used a Klipsch surround speaker system with Denon amp. Until we get that system setup in our new home, the soundbar will satisfy our needs.

At first, i thought a sound bar wasn't going to be loud or powerful enough, especially, when i watch my movies and play video games. Let me tell you this sound bar packs a punch and for the price, it's a great deal. Make sure you play with the settings by putting the bass and subwoofer volume up. I recently discovered the subwoofer setting can be adjusted. I'm very satisfied and sounds great with my 4K tv.

I received this as a gift and could not be more satisfied with the sound and ease of setup. If you can plug in a power cord you can set this up. Great sound options and wireless is great for cord control. The bar looks great but the subwoofer is large and should be situated in a less conspicuous location. Also being able to BT my music and other devices is wonderful.

We have other Samsung products and have been very satisfied with the brand and that is why we chose the Samsung sound bar. The quality sound and volume we heard in the store was great but when we installed it at home the sound did not compare to the quality and volume we heard in the store. We tried installing with both the optical cable that came with the sound bar and then with an HDMI cable but neither produced the quality sound we were expecting from this Samsung product, no bass and very low volume. The TV without the sound bar produces a higher volume than the sound bar. We are extremely disappointed and plan to return the sound bar for another product. We are very hesitant to buy another Samsung sound bar.

      Dave,

Thank you for purchasing this Samsung HW-M550 Soundbar System.
I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with its low volume.

Please check the connection between the Soundbar and other source devices, and try the following tips that may help improve the volume level.
      1. If the Soundbar is connected to a TV thru HDMI, make sure to use the HDMI-ARC jack on the TV and select “External speakers” as the TV sound output.
      2. Check the audio output format sent to the Soundbar. Typical options are PCM, Dolby Digital, and Bitstream. Select the option that optimizes the sound from your source.
      3. Change the SOUND MODE on the Soundbar using the Soundbar’s remote. Choices are STANDARD, MUSIC, CLEAR VOICE, SPORTS, or MOVIE. Select the appropriate mode for the individual room acoustics.
      4. Turn on Dynamic Range Control. This is done by pressing and holding the SOUND MODE button on the remote control while the Soundbar is in standby mode.

I hope these tips help to enhance your audio enjoyment.

Bought the M360 because it was supposed to be for a small Kitchen/Dining area and just desired a little boost from the TV speaker itself..... Pairing & set up was a breeze. The soundbar itself provided the added boost I was looking for,....However, the subwoofer failed big time. Could not even tell that it was on- even at its highest level of 6+ Returned it and got the M550... hoping for the best. Slight upgrade in Bass, but really Just more of the same disappointment. Subwoofer is a total waste of space. Oh well,....at least it was obtained at a Cheap price of $217.99 If you're lookin' for any type of quality rich-sounding bass, go with another brand.

Had a problem pairing the surround speakers but got it figured out by using the samsung tv remote mute button to show "id set". The remote that came with soundbar after following the pairing instruction holding volume down while soundbar was off wont work. Id Set showed up when i used the tv remote, weird but it worked that way. I love how i don't need to run cables to be able to use the surround speakers and the sub works and paired fine. Not as loud as you want it to be but it also depending on the movie you are watching. For the price it is a good deal plus the surround speakers end up $20 only due to special bundle offer. Will check all the settings to get the most of this unit.

I’m very disappointed with this sound system. My husband wanted a higher end system but I convinced him to go with Samsung. Along with this sound system we bought the Q7 TV and I thought everything would work seamlessly, the Q7 is awesome, we’re super happy with the TV. I just have an issue with the sound bar. Every time we turn on the TV it does not turn on the sound bar. I have to manually turn it on and manually go into settings and turn off the TV sound every time we want to watch TV. It’s very frustrating that we spent all this money and it doesn’t work like it should. I regret buying it.

I started off with the Vizio Smartcast 36 inch 5.1 and was very disapointed in the sound. It had clear sound out of the sound bar and even with adjusting the sub and rear speakers were very weak. I found an open box for $216 with a scratch on the side and did not have the original box. Wahoo one less thing I have to throw away. Well I was kind of on the fence about it, it was in my price range with what I wanted to spend. If money wasnt an option I would have gone with a Sonos system. Anyways after reading the review and doing some outside reading I figured I would give it a try. I read the sub was a weak sub and you didnt get much out of it. I found if you place the sub facing the wall about 6-8 inches away. I personally think its just the right amount of bass for what it is.

I bought this to replace a very old but still functional Sony receiver and 5.1 surround sound to get something better with my new LG OLED. I liked the digital menu that temporarily lets you know the menu selection and changes you're making with the remote. Set up was easy with the fiber optical connection from the tv to soundbar. Everything from then went downhill. For every single TV show or movie I would watch from my Directv DVR I found myself making an adjustment to one or more of the following to find what combo sounds best with the show I'm watching- using TV speakers + fiber out, using fiber out only, turning the surround on/off, changing the mode from Clear, Sport, Music, etc...not to mention constantly adjusting the volume of the TV speakers and the soundbar to find the best fit. I had to do this for every. single. freakin. show. And it never even sound as good as my decade old surround sound. The last straw was the accompanying Samsung rear speakers that go with this when they stopped working I packed everything back up and exchanged it for the Bose® - SoundTouch® 300 and Acoustimass® 300. Insane difference in quality and value. Obviously the price with the Bose is not in the same ballpark but well worth it. Skip this one!
