Great Sound! Clean Set-up!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.- Sound quality is GREAT! It is very clean and full when watching any content; sports, movies or listening to music. - I have been impressed with the surround experience it provides as well. - I connected my UHD Blu-ray player to the soundbar and then the soundbar to my TV via ARC. It has all worked flawlessly and integrated very well. - I followed the set up guide and the rear speakers and subwoofer paired immediately - I also like the remote and the ability to adjust the levels for the various drivers. - The soundbar looks good on the stand in front of my television, and my wife and I both like the cleaner look in our family room not having the extra speakers and wires we previously had.

ATMOS technology is not ready
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Issues: 1. Can't pass ATMOS from any TV via ARC to this soundbar, not even a samsung TV. If you want to watch netflix, vudu, amazon, you can't do it at all and it will never happen as it's a hardware issue not a firmware. Other ATMOS soundbars do allow it. 2. Rear speakers have constant white static noise. You are basically buying a $400 worth SIMULATED Surround Sound soundbar. I use it to watch cable TV and it does sound great with the 500 watts and surround sound, but not worth the high price.

Thank you for purchasing this Samsung HW-K950 Soundbar System. I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with the user experience.
Your feedback on the ATMOS pass-thru and the static noise is very important to us, and will be shared with our product team.
Please know that you can make the soundbar pass ATMOS by connecting a capable device -- such as a Samsung UHD Blu-ray player-- to the K950 via HDMI, and then connecting the soundbar via HDMI TV-Out to the TV. When an ATMOS track is played on the connected device, the soundbar light will illuminate blue and say “Dolby ATMOS” on the soundbar screen.
Please check the external device you are using as it may require additional steps in order to pass ATMOS – for example, if using a Samsung UHD Blu-ray Player, the UHD Blu-ray Audio settings need to be changed to “uncompressed.”
For further assistance with features or usage, and to better diagnose the static noise, please contact Samsung Customer Support toll-free at 1-800-SAMSUNG and a representative will gladly help you.

Do not buy if main reason is Atmos
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The soundbar itself does sound good, i'm not going to take that away from it. But if you are buying this solely for Atmos, please do NOT buy this. Getting content to play atmos through this soundbar is a challenge at the best of times. Also there is no Dolby Vision passthrough just HDR10. For the price you could get much better atmos implementation and have Dolby vision passthrough. If atmos isn't the main reason you're buying this then it's a solid soundbar and does sound good with a thumping sub

Great Sound Bar
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great sound bar, was going to get the hw-k850 open box but chose to get this. Bought it open box at best buy at a steal at $599 the sound is terrific when paired with a dolby atmos certified blue ray player/disk. The whole room moves with this sound bar. Highly recommend especial if bought at open box price.

Waiting to have it installed by in-home service.'
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was impressed with the system in the store. I have a question that I can't find in the information online. What is the dimensions of the sound bar and back speakers? I found the wireless subwoofer is 8". Thank you in advance for giving me the info. I look forward to it! I will post after installation is complete with a full rating!

Terrible Soundbar unable to pair
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start buy saying i am a huge Samsung fan. This soundbar was a flop though. I have the 450 already and i like it better especially for $200 vs $1300. The 950 has clearer sound but you have to crank it up to 40 and max is 50. My 450 sounded just as loud at 30 i had the side by side. This is because the 950 gets 18 watts at 4 ohms for all 11 speakers on the soundbar vs the 450 gets 40 watts at 6 ohms for all 4 speakers. Not to mention rear and sub would not pair as another reviewer had this same problem. Even if the speakers had paired I still would have returned it.

Best soundbar ever!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This soundbar is amazing, just make sure the settings are correct in your components. Bitstream uncompressed, and so forth. Not all tv's carry Atmos over hdmi(arc) either. Also rear surround speakers work great, rear surround speakers shouldn't be loud like some people where complaining about, they are there to complement those extra sounds in the movies for the surround effect, until an action scene you should hardly notice them.

Great sound but Atmos has a catch.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this setup for almost a year now and the sound is really great, However, I have yet to get the Dolby Atmos to work watching supported content through Netflix using ARC. I have tried cables and I have fiber internet so I know neither of those is the issue. I recently upgraded my TV to a Samsung Q8 and I cannot play Atmos through the bar from that TV either. I don't want a Blu Ray player with all the overhead of disks. This is very frustrating for me because that was one of the reasons I purchased it.

Nightmare Setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I came into Best Buy to find an all wireless speaker system I was looking for the best. If the all wireless system had Dolby Atmos that would be another perk. I was recommended this product by the sales associate (who was very kind and helpful) because of the great sound and overall features of this setup. However, when actually trying to setup the speaker system to my Samsung 4K TV, it quickly became a nightmare. From getting the system to link wirelessly (which the manual made it look way easier than it actually is) to trying to get dolby atmos working with my Xbox One S, this setup couldn't have made it any harder. I swear by Samsung products for everything else like my phone, computer and tv's but this soundbar is a huge miss. I would MUCH rather go and spend some extra money and just forget about the wireless setup to go get a full receiver setup. I tried for multiple days trying to give this a chance but through connectivity issues and dolby atmos giving me a headache I'm going to have to return this product and find another route. Personally, I would recommend going a different route if someone is contemplating getting this product. Not worth the headache at all!

Wish I could return
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As I write this my ears are ringing. Using ARC TV to watch the football game and the volume control has no control of the rear speakers. They are so loud when working, I have to turn the front speakers volume up to compensate. Most of the time the rear speakers turn on and off without any logic. My guess is the bluetooth antenna in the main unit is too small. Also about once a week the speakers lose association with the main unit. What a pain for the cost and the manufacturer. I l8ve Samsung products, but this one is a dog. My 85" TV will have to go back to wired speakers I guess?

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung HW-K950 Soundbar with Dolby Atmos Technology. I am sorry to hear that you did not experience the full potential of this system.
A possible cause is that the rear speakers may appear disengaged because the Soundbar may be in stereo mode (no surround effect) when playing non-Atmos content.
You can also try the below to improve rear speaker performance:
1) Connect the Soundbar to a network and upgrade the Soundbar to the latest firmware version.
2) Check that Surround Mode is set to ON.
3) Different effect modes (Standard > Music > Clear voice > Sports > Movie > Night mode) affect the levels of the surround speakers. Try a different effect to compensate for the source and room acoustics.
4) Try toggling the DRC feature. Dynamic Range Control is a feature that affects the volume levels on Dolby Digital sources.
5) Depending on the mode, the level of each speaker (including the Surround speakers) can be controlled individually.

EXCELLENT (has one very small catch)
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This sound system is worth every penny. I purchased an open box item, and there was nothing wrong with it at all. The sound quality of this unit is really great and will fill any room that you put the system in. It is so easy to pair with your Samsung (other) TV, just make sure that it will work with your set first. There is one little catch to remember ..... not all programming produces Dolby Atoms sound quality, so you may not hear anything significant coming from the rear speakers. Other than that. I highly recommend this system

Dead Out of the Box
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Soundbar would not connect to sub-woofer. Nothing worked including soundbar and rear speakers. Called Samsung tech support and, after testing per their instructions, they determined that unit was defective. Samsung notified me that, even though the unit was defective when new, they would not replace the unit. Terrible quality control and awful customer support for $1,400 high end product.

What a disappointment!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had such high hopes for this soundbar. All the reviews I've read about the amazing Atmos effects, superb sound quality, and easy operation had me hyped for an outstanding experience right out of the box. I was wrong. Don't misunderstand me, the overall sound quality was great - for a soundbar. The addition of rear speakers and 4 upward-firing drivers the HW-K950 excel at recreating a truly authentic Dolby Atmos experience in most rooms. When listenining to TrueHD Atmos content, the sound is crisp, defined, and dynamic. It moves all around you, as well as above. The subwoofer, while beefy, is muddier than expected for a $1000+ package. Not nearly enough of a crisp, solid punch in the 60-120 hz region, and completely loses it's cool below 40hz. So really, this sub is only good for small explosions and bass-heavy hip hop. Sounds okay so far, right? Nah. After about a week, I started to notice the wireless rear speakers and sub-woofer intermittently dropping out, only to come back on after about 10 seconds. That was the beginning of this nightmare. Over the course of a few days, the main unit began disconnecting from WiFi, so I connected via ethernet....it began to disconnect from that. Any time I attempted to pass through HDR video and Atmos at the same time (as the unit advertised as being able to handle), everything would go PURPLE!!! Literally an impassable purple tint over any HDR content I was trying to watch! Not cool, but I decided to do some research before losing it with Samsung. After a while of exhausting all of the resources the web has to offer, including reviews by both consumer and professional, I found that most customers that purchased this system have had the SAME issues I have, obviously denoting a manufacturing/programming error on Samsung's part. I contacted customer service only to be given the same run-around they give everyone who has these same issues..."we haven't received any complaints about this product". I said I wanted it looked at anyway....big mistake. After dealing with slow delivery of my shipping label, having to pay for my own packaging, and sending my unit to Samsung for OVER 2 WEEKS, I received it back. The unit came back in a plain cardboard box, marked only with a "refurbished" sticker. Though packaged securely, the unit came with no repair documentation, not a packing list, nothing. How am I supposed to know what you did to it? Nothing, apparently. After powering on the unit, I started to notice all of the same problems as before, AND MORE! Now the physical buttons on the side of the unit don't work at all, and the sound is filled with static and crackling. So I sent it back again. Came back two weeks later, same issues. After dealing with Samsung customer service for nearly a month this time, I was finally able to get on the phone with an Exec, who approved a full refund via direct deposit. I was told that the refund would take 5-7 business days to post to my account, once the service center received my unit. After some research, the Exec realized that the service center already had my soundbar, so she said the refund would post in 5-7 business days. It has been 2 weeks. I've sent countless emails to Samsung's refund department, who took 3 days to respond to any of them, only to say "Your refund will be released once the service center scraps your unit". WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO WAIT LONGER?!? I have been dealing with this issue since AUGUST! I understand there are procedures to follow when dealing with refunds, but this is ridiculous! You have had my soundbar this 3rd time for over 2 weeks and still haven't scrapped it? At this point I'm tempted to band together with other owners of this product and file a class-action suit against Samsung. I'll call a few more times before I decide. *btw the Sony HT-ST5000 is a much better option, even without rear speakers.

It's Not ATMOS!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this overpriced 5.1 sound bar, thinking it was Dolby Atmos as it says all over the box. Well good luck trying to get it to play in Atmos. It is hooked up to LG OLED, no matter how you hook it up you get no ATMOS. You can't use ARC, they tell you it will only work on HDMI??? Try to hook it up that way and nothing. Netlix OKJA is Dolby Vision and Atmos and still 5.1. If you hook it up to a 4K Apple TV (no Atmos yet) and try to watch a UHD movie, you have to turn it up to max volume and it's still not that loud. When you call Samsung they walk you through a ton of tests and then tell you to buy a 4K DVD player. Whatever you do don't buy this sound bar if you want ATMOS. Buy the LG or Sony.

Terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DO NOT BUY THIS!. If you want a system solely for dolby Atmos this is fantastic BUT when it comes to playing any other format the rear speakers are incredibly low so much so that you can press your ear up against the speakers and the sound if there is any sounds like listening to a sound through a wall using a glass! It is way too low. Samsung could probably correct this with a firmware update but so far they are completely ignoring all the angry people on several ads forums who have voiced their disappointment in this product. I spent well over $1500 for this product and now you can but it for less than $900...HMMMMM I have already had to send the sound bar into Samsung to supposedly correct the fact that if I paused my tv using TiVo or a dvd the sound reverts from the soundbar back to my Samsung tv! The tech stated that is not supposed to happen but I am not convinced that sending it in will change this issue either, maybe yet another firmware update! Buyer beware! Totally disappointed!!! I wish I could return this product for a refund

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not buy this sound bar. Three defective in six months. Just received another replacement. Refurbished. Out of the box, BT and ARC not working. ARC failed first time. Then wireless connectivity second. Absolute horrendous customer support. Now have to return a fourth time. Also, ATMOS does not work through ARC. Only on HDMI inputs on sound bar itself. Read the Samsung forums regarding this lack of support that people have been requesting since release.

Nothing says fun like installing a sound bar and surround sound system twice. I’m looking forward to getting it back from Samsung repair in 3-4 weeks and installing it for a 3rd time. Good times. Needless to say I would strongly suggest you avoid this buying this particularly expensive system as it is unreliable.
