I bought this Samsung open-box (saved $50) for my sisters apartment. I'm an audiophile and videophile so the sound quality was nowhere near what I would be satisfied with, but my sister was fine with it. Setup was pretty simple, it's all dummy proof with the wiring. The wireless surround speaker setup was fully automatic, works well. Make sure you connect to Internet and download any firmware updates before you bother digging into the settings during setup. By default, all the speaker channels are set to 0db, so the surrounds volume levels are WAY too loud and the sub is WAY too low. An SPL meter will be necessary to balance all the channels with the built in speaker test (you can download an SPL meter app on your phone for free). Two reasons it didn't get 5 stars: 1) It says it's HDMI output has an Audio Return Channel (ARC) but it doesn't work with my sister's 42" Vizio with ARC. Everything was plugged into the correct ports, cables were brand-new HDMI 2.2, ARC was enabled on both devices...it should've worked. So I had to back to the store and buy an optical cable to get sound for her FIOS tv. Annoyed... 2)Within a week, my sister is calling me telling me there is no dialogue when she plays BD/DVDs. After burning an hour of checking it over, I found that somehow the system was sending the subwoofer channel to the center channel and the Front L/R to the surrounds, and completely lost the front channels. This only happened when the internal disc player was in use...when using the optical input (for FIOStv) everything was fine. Turning it on and off did nothing, so I yanked the plug while it was on and left it unplugged for 2 minutes, which seemed to reset everything. Hopefully nothing else silly like that happens again. Annoyed again...

Bought this to replace our 10 yr. old 5 Disk DVD/VHS Recorder AM/FM Stereo Home Theater System after it started acting up and not opening the DVD trays (different brand). We have had this new Samsung for a little over a month. This new 2015 model works great, newest technology, 3D / Smart Blu-ray Home system with FM receiver. This up converts DVDs to give a great picture, almost don’t have to spend the extra money to rent a BD disk, if you have a 42” TV as we do. It was easy to set-up connection to our home Wi-Fi. Make sure you check for and update the Firmware on the system. We had one update on ours already. The small speakers produce a really great sound for a home system in this price range. The wireless rear speakers are not 100% wireless. You have to plug the rear surround speaker wires into a 110v powered wireless box. Accordingly, if you want those speakers mounted on a wall, as we do, you will see the wires, and be limited to the spacing and placement distance from the 110v powered box. The biggest Dislike I have about this system is that I think Samsung made a design mistake by using Proprietary speaker wire Plugs for connection of the speakers to the main and surround speakers rear unit. They should have used speaker wire spring terminal connectors as they used on all of the speakers – Why use half one type connection & half a different type connection? The spring terminal wire connections are very easy to use – you have to use them anyway on the speakers! This design totally eliminates the use of heavier gauge better wires (included wires are very thin), unless you cut & splice the included wires! This also restricts the distance you can place the speakers from the main unit (wire size / gauge too small) plus the proprietary plugs on one end. Our rear surround speakers were placed on two sides of an open arch / wall span, so the design eliminates the use of my hidden wires for the rear speakers! According, we can’t place the new ones there now. Overall I feel this is a good system, would recommend, not sorry I purchased, but just be aware of the above speaker wire complaints that I have.

This is a newer version of another Samsung home theater system we have. The older system is still working fine as it always has. It is now being used in a different space. We purchased the newer unit because it has better "smart" features, i.e. we no longer have to que Netflix shows from a computer in order to watch them via the Samsung system. (For those of you who may not remember the earlier days of Netflix digital content and many smart devices, you used to have to log in to Netflix via a computer and add shows to your Netflix que in order to watch them on connected devices. It adds an additional step and, by today's standards, is quite cumbersome.) This newer unit has modern smart functionality and works great! We are using this set in the master bedroom where running speaker cable for the rear channel speakers would be nearly impossible. This home theater system, (as did our older system), utilizes wireless rear channel speakers. The rear channel speakers plug into a relatively small receiver, (comes with the system), that is easily concealed. Everything you need for a great sounding system is in the box and is very easy to set up. In case you were wondering about the space where it is installed... The master bedroom is quite large... Probably 250 square feet. The overall home is 6900 square feet. This Samsung home theater system produces plenty of sound for the space. I'm sure we will never use it at full power.

I got a great price for this system around black Friday, plus I had gift cards and certificates. So I purchased this as an early Christmas gift for myself. The main reasons I got this system was because it was Samsung a trusted brand, the price point and it was 5.1 and 1000 watts. Now that I have had it several months, I can give my honest opinion. The sound quality is pretty good. The first night I purchased it I watched the first Marvel Avengers and the surround sound was good considering it is a smaller theater system. I did like the bass, but there was a little bit of crackling with one of the speakers during certain scenes. The bass was not bad. Set up was easy. Bluetooth is nice. I have connected my 6 TB HDD to the system and I can play content from it with not real problems. Some of the AVIs aren't supported though. Plays blu-rays well. Processor it pretty good. The black color is nice, but does attract a lot of dust. The EQ settings suck. Music doesn't sound good in the music mode. You have to turn the system up very high some times to hear some conversations, the voices aren't clear enough. Music sounds very washed out. Doesn't come with an optical cable, I had to purchase one separately. I would not recommend. Save your money and you can get a much better system for around or a little more then what this retails for.

As you can see by my Nick name, I like most things Samsung, and when my old Home theater system died after 8 years (Samsung too), I decided to replace it with another Samsung. I am not fully satisfied with this "new" unit. First of all, what was the Samsung software engineering team thinking? You can't adjust the user defined equalizer preset while actually listening to music??? This is very elemental and it should have been a no brainier. In reality, you have to switch away from BT, Aux, FM radio, etc. to go into settings and adjust the user equalizer preset and then go back to a music input to see if it sounds different??? My old Home Theater System had a dedicated button to adjust per channel db and much more. I am talking about the user defined eq preset (you can use the remote to cycle all of the eq presets, including the user defined eq but not adjust anything with music, it has to be done in total silence?). I want to be able to hear something while making eq adjustments to the user defined eq preset! Another annoying thing is that if you want to listen to the FM radio while connected to HDMI to a Samsung TV (Anynet + ON), the TV switches input to TV and then the radio starts playing. So, I had to turn off Anynet and now the TV stays on the HTS input and the HTS goes to the FM listening screen. Finally, why not keep comparability with old HTS remotes? The new remote is a joke, couple with the fact that the front plate doe not have a preset button. So, if you loose your remote, you will not be able to switch stations. My older Samsung HTS Unit that had a button in the front plat to switch between all of the FM station saved presets. This things should not be designed as disposable units. If Samsung design and quality does not go back to how it used to be, for Home Theater Systems, this recently purchase unit will be my last Samsung HTS (3 months old at the time of this writing),

I purchase my Samsung home theater system Samsung HT-J5500W 5.1-Channel Smart Blu-ray Home Theater System as an open box with Best Buy. I was happy at first but then the sound went out if right front speaker after only 3 times using system. I called Samsung and went through a bunch of testing and didn't fix unit. I was sent a UPS label and boxed the whole system up ( what a pain ) and sent it to Samsung waited to week and finally got it back, Hook everything back up and still no sound out of right front. Called Samsung again and then boxed up again and sent it back again and waited another 2 weeks got it back and hooked it up and still no sound out of right front . I have changed speaker wires and have swapped speakers around and still not sound. At this point I was pretty upset with them . I called and requested refund and waited again a couple of weeks with no reply. Called again and was finally called back one evening and was told it was approved for full refund BUT it had to go for final approval at another dept. LOL. :( NOT. I am still waiting for them to refund my money. This has been going on since Dec of 2016 and it is now almost the end of Feb. 2017. Buyer Beware Do Not Buy This One You Will Br Sorry!!!! I will not buy another Samsung anything because there customer service is very poor !

After owning a Samsung - 5 disc carousel / surround sound system, I had hoped from the reviews that this might be a nice replacement to it. The sound quality was ok but not what I expected. The setup was very straight forward and simple. The rear wireless system was nice even though there are wires from the receiver unit to the speakers but that was ok because they were going to be hidden anyways. The main unit self linked to the receiver and there was nothing hard about the setup screen. The mids and highs were really crisp and clear however the bass speaker left a lot to be desired. I had the gain turned up to the max and even with a lot of bass signal from the video, the bass was very weak and unresponsive. The old carousel system would rattle the windows if I wanted it to. I was also reading that though this system would support 3D videos, i did not support 4K. As I only have a 1080P/ 3D system, for he moment it was not an issue but one to pay attention to. The real problem started when tried to stream a movie with VUDU. My wifi is through a major cable provider and I have a 60mb download speed. While trying to watch the movie, the video would pause every 5 seconds then play again. It was extremely annoying. I tried to use the Youtube app but ended up with the same results. I did make sure as the reviews suggested to update the unit before I started setting it up. The final straw was while switching between the menu options, the unit would not allow you to make another selection in the menu for several seconds after you finished with one. Even switching between input modes took awhile. Someone else noted this in the reviews and I had hoped it was just an isolated issue. I took the unit back and explained what was happening and BestBuy took it back with absolutely no issues.

Purchased this a month ago, and the sound quality is very good. The "wireless" rear speakers are NOT wireless, The piece they connect too is. Still better than running wires across the room i suppose. Its behind my couch, and i have a speaker on each side. The interface is good. I listen to pandora alot, Youtube is kind of hard to use though. Tuner function seems to be alright depending on weather. Playing music, NO SOUND COMES FROM THE REAR SPEAKERS. I was disappointed when i found this out. Only the sub, center speaker, and front left and right speakers play music. I will say though while watching the movie Fury, the bullet ricochet had me ducking a few times. Overall pretty happy. The only two setbacks i have is 1) No sound from rear speakers during music and 2) Nowhere in the manual, or on the website does it state you need a audio cable if your TV isnt a samsung (I have a Vizio) HDMI cables WILL NOT WORK. Overall a good system.

Was really looking forward to this and my boyfriend (who is all about sound) was actually excited too. We found this at a great proce because it was on the open-box area and decided to take a chance. Pros: the sound quality is pretty good. The first night we purchased this, we watched Jurassic World and the surround sound was awesome considering this is a smaller theater system. We especially liked the bass. Also, set up was easy. Cons: Although the sound was great, we can tell that this would only last about a year, max. The L/R speakers sounded like they were cracking a bit already. Another thing is that at random times, the Wi-Fi surround sound speakers would fail to connect and stop working. This happened every time as we watched movies and I have to tell you that it was frustrating. Lastly, another problem we had with the Wi-Fi speakers was that for some strange reason, they would not work whenever we played music. Again, this was an open box item so maybe that had a lot to do with it. Hopefully this helps and you find what you're looking for.

I have tried many products here recently. Vizio 5.1 S5451W-C2, Nakamichi NK12, RCA and other Samsung brand sound bars. This HTIB i will not complain too much and will say i would like to try out the Sony bdvn7200w but an satisfied with this model of samsung 5.1 surround sound. I had originally the 7.1 HT-E6730W and loved it Flaws and all. The saying goes if it's not broke don't fix it.....yep i should have listened. Ha ha. sold it at a good price thinking i would upgrade. I paid a good price for this and it was brand new I will say the it's not as premium looking as i would like, however its performance thus far is great. Cons: 1.I would like to see a more quality build and subwoofer in the future samsung. 2. Stronger bluetooth range 3. I would like to see louder and better quality surround speakers attached to surround transmitter. Although they are good. 4. Good remote, could be better 5. Could have more hdmi connections PROS: 1. although not as as aesthetically premium looking as i like, it's performance has been astoundingly fast and precise. No issues other than bluetooth not allowing me to move all around the house. 2. model supports best ways to connect (Hdmi arc) digital optical, audio video 3. Great speakers for a htib They dont look like much, but wow and for a 1000 watt they get loud and stay clear. 4. Music sounds great and this has a few presets and options to tweak the bass and equilizer. Movies and dvds look great and my games sound very nice. 5. Great entry level blue ray player and surround sound. i have no regrets at 197.00

This had everything I wanted! First of all, to address other people's concerns about HDMI ARC with Vizio, yes it DOES work. HDMI ARC allows both directional connection using one cable. No optical or low grade RCA cables need. You must go the TV settings and turn on CEC. This will allow the Vizio to discover connected devices via HDMI. It will allow you to use the Vizio to control the Samsung and vice versa. Other TV brands may be similar. Then you can get surround sound from over the air TV! If you experience any audio/video sync issues, Vizio and the Samsung allow you to adjust for this. Those who want a 2 channel music stream to play on rear speakers, your expectation is flawed. The rear speakers are only for the extra surround sound channels if such a source is used. FM radio, Bluetooth audio, music CDs are two channels. Not 6. Blu ray player and Amazon Prime Video and other streaming services work great. Yes Amazon has many titles in HD and 5.1 sound. Love streaming movies and TV shows in surround! FM radio and Bluetooth work great for music. Having no wires running across the living room is great. The wireless receiver is connected to the rear speakers by normal speaker wire. My only complaint is about the buttons on the front of the device. I wish they were backlit. It is very hard to see what you're doing in low light.

Read some reviews. Some bad some good. I am a tech savvy person. No expert but I can easily connect speaker wires. Know how to use Bluetooth. And even re-image my home computers. Just so you know I'm not a regular dude. This system is horrible. The Bluetooth worked only twice. Hasn't worked since. I've tried numerous devices. Both Android and iOS. These very same devices connect to other Bluetooth with zero issues. I performed the system update on the Samsung. It's current. The speakers randomly work. I've quadruple checked the connections. I've ran the speaker set up. Funny thing. The speaker icons and the "noise" aren't synced anymore! So.... just to make sure the kiddos or dumb cat didn't mess anything up. I re-verified the proper color coded connections. Yep. Still correct. Now, 3 of the speakers aren't working. Even when the two rear ones were working, they were as loud as the cheap @&& headphones you get free with your phones..... I'm 100% not satisfied but I am 100% going to return this. When I called Best Buy. They said they've had quite a few returns on this. Thankfully I bought the extra protection. So..... kudos to me for that! :) Stay away folks. Samsung should stick to making phones. Wait, that's another topic not fire here. I mean, for here.

While this item looks nice and has great sound & picture, it is awful. I purchased this item & straight out of the box I had problems. The DVD would freeze & the unit would become unresponsive. Without any actual buttons on the unit, the only way to get passed this was to unplug the unit, wait for it to reset & start over. Mid film. The DVD was brand new, so it wasn't a case of a scratched DVD. This happened repeatedly & sometimes needed to be unplugged & reset twice before it allowed me to eject the DVD or CD. I exchanged it for the same model, and still had the same issues. I instead went with a Yamaha A/V receiver paired with a Sony Blue Ray player & Yamaha surround speakers. Yes, I paid about $300 more (though Yamaha offers different price points for their receivers, depending on what features you are looking for), but the quality of the sound & picture is much better, as is the quality of the items themselves. Able to stream Spotify, Apple Airplay, Bluetooth with the Yamaha unit with much clearer sound & no distortion. An infinitely better product that's available at different price points. Do Not Buy This Samsung Home Theatre!!!!!

Fantastic sound system, feels like I'm at a concert or movie theater, that is the experience this home theater delivers. Enhances the quality of whatever you are watching or listening to!! Should have bought it sooner. Easy to use and more features then I expected. You can get a complete big-screen experience from the breathtaking picture to the booming audio, out of the movie theater and into your living room. This home theater system, surround speakers, and a subwoofer creates a complete surround sound experience that's easy to get lost in. And the 3D Blu-ray player pairs the audio with crisp visuals that leap right off the TV. You can also use non blu Ray DVDs and with the built-in Wi-Fi, the options are endless! Watch YouTube, stream music with Internet radio, chat with friends on Facebook and Twitter, right from your TV, not to mention all the interactive Samsung apps. Do I sound excited about this home theater system, yes I am and so is my family! Complete entertainment package!!! .Best purchase I made this year!

I initially liked it once I bought. Setting up the system was a breeze. Issue 1: Most important issue. If you watch 30 minutes of a movie in your blu-ray/dvd, the next time you switch on, it starts again from 0 minutes. It should be from 31st minute. The system does not maintain memory. It is frustrating. Same holds good for movies played through external USB hard drives that you plug in. Issue 2: It does not use Samsung Smart TV apps but only Opera Store apps which may is outdated. You may not get future upgrades. System may fail soon. If you are fine with the above issues, then this system is good. It has quality sound for the price (Dont expect the sound to be anything near to a receiver and speaker setup). In addition to the above issues, HDMI was not syncing properly with my LG TV (Model 47LM600). So I had to return. I bought a basic Yamaha receiver+speaker+amazon fire tv. And the quality of the sound is mind blowing. The total price was approxmately 400 (just $50 more), but it was worth it.

I had a 6 year old Samsung HT E6730 go out on me. The Blu-Ray function stopped working. Rather than fork out a ton of money for a surround sound setup in the Kid’s Playroom I opted for something budget friendly. For $299 this is tough to complain about. Setup is easy, just be sure to have an optical cable handy to run from the receiver to your DirecTV box. This is because the receiver only has an HDMI out. Run this to your TV HDMI in. Take your HDMI from your DirecTV to your HDMI ARC on the TV. Then optical cable from receiver to DirecTV box (as mentioned previously) and you’re set. Be sure to spend some time dialing in the speakers with distances and levels. I put my C and sub +2 dB, rear surrround +4, and front speakers at 0. This is in a room where the speaker distances are 10 feet max. Everyone’s will be different but I wanted more sound out of my rear speakers and C on purpose. I also turned the equalizer off and set the DSP to Power Bass via the remote. Lastly, be sure to upgrade the firmware immediately out of the box.

DVD Sound Is Off If Forward Playback is Sped Up

On page 28 of the manual for the HT-J5500W home entertainment system, it reads “The product does not play sound in Search, Slow, or Step mode.” I took this to mean that it is supposed to continue to play sound during fast motion FORWARD play (at last at the lower end of the faster forward speeds). For example, my PC media player will continue to play the DVD sound track at 1.2X, 1.4X or 2X normal forward speed (although the sound pitch and speed is, of course, higher and faster than normal, respectively; at 4X, 8X or 16X speeds, the PC cuts off the sound track). After reading this page in the Samsung manual, I was expecting that this unit would also play the sound track if the playback was sped up somewhat so that a movie could be viewed in a shorter time, however, the sound cuts out at ANY faster forward speed when the >> button on the remote is pressed. I then found the statement “The home theater does not play sound during fast playback, slow playback, and step motion playback.” on page 44 in the Appendix/Troubleshooting section of the manual. I think that the first part of the manual is ambiguous and misleading and that Samsung can certainly do a better job with its documentation.

This system isn't bad, but I was looking to replace one that I had previously and it just didn't have all the same features. I liked that the rear speakers were wireless, so you can avoid the messy wires and cords and don't have to be creative running them where they can't be seen, but unfortunately, the surround sound is only when watching DVDs that are capable and not when watching regular TV or listening to music. Bummer. It was nice to have the apps like Netflix and Pandora accessible but, again, I was really needing that surround sound to surround me at all times. Set up is fairly straight forward and easy and I actually ended up connecting speakers I already owned because they were a higher quality. So, it's good for a normal home viewing experience, especially if you watch DVDs mainly, but it isn't going to get you any cinematic type experiences from all your different media sources if that is what you were hoping.

Worked great for about 2 years until a firmware update disabled the center speaker and subwoofer. Since it was more than 1 yr after my purchase, it was not under warranty. I spent an hour with tech support who really do not have any good advice or solutions to fix an issue that was caused by their update from 1011 to 1012.5. All of my speakers worked fine with youtube, dvd, cd, thumbdrive, and phone via bluetooth. I noticed that 5.1 was disabled on Netflix, and tested my sound on all options previously mentioned prior to doing the firmware update via USB since it was not doing it via the online option. I had previously updated to the 1011.0 update with no issues. Unless you have purchased extended warranty on this equipment, you will be stuck with low grade stereo sound after the firmware update. If you enjoy taking equipment in for repairs and or wasting time performing useless fixes with tech support, then this is something you might want to purchase. Otherwise, spend your money on another company's product.

Issue is with this store in Las Vegas and not so much the product itself. Purchased a Samsung 1000 watt Blu Ray DVD home theater system for 249.99 last week. Set it up Saturday Nov 26 and central speaker did not work. On set up replaced with our old Sony speaker and central worked. Assumed defect so at 5 pm 11/26 returned to this store in open box and exchanged for one that works, When we packed exchange we inadvertently left DVD "Divergent"in player so returned to this store 2 hours after exchange at 7 pm. Spotted our return box still on customer service floor but now sealed and apparently inspected and ready for resale. CSR opened the sealed box for us but DVD was not there. Explanation was Geek squad probably tossed our DVD in trash. Might be true or not true as no way to know. All we know is that the DVD was definitely in the player when returned. It was easy for BB store to know a customer they can trace left a personal item but did nothing to really explain or accomodate. Request manager contact from this store. 702-750-2211
