Before buying this TV, my wife and I read countless reviews, both professional and consumer. We consulted Consumer Reports. We also spent hours at Best Buy and other stores LOOKING at TVs.* Because of prior happy experience over several years with Samsung TVs and a bad experience using a SONY TV warranty, we decided to stick with this brand. Once we decided on a size (we were replacing a 46" TV), we then had to decide on a model series. Samsung, as with other manufacturers, offers a wide variety of model series; each with slightly different sets of features and at different price levels. * REMEMBER, what you see for demonstration purposes in Best Buy is NOT likely to be the same signal quality that you will have at home. They ALL look eye-popping spectacular in Best Buy! BEFORE you buy a TV, you need to decide: 1 - size. Big is wonderful, but too big for a small room can be annoying 2 - resolution. Will you predominantly be watching TV? Streaming? DVDs or Blu-Ray discs? 3 - your budget, of course. Are you willing to spend $600 or $3,000? 4 - whether or not you want a SMART TV. Do you want to stream directly through your TV? 5 - Are you sensitive to "motion blur"? 6 - whether or not you MUST HAVE the "latest and greatest." REMEMBER, no one broadcasts 4K signals. I am told that Amazon Prime and Netflix do offer limited programming in 4K, BUT you MUST have an upgraded wifi system in your home (at least 50mbps; not worth it to us to upgrade our FiOS service) to get them. There are 4K upscaling Blu-Ray players but NO 4K discs yet. In short, your TV may be capable of displaying 4K programming, but there is not much available to be displayed! Before buying THIS TV, my wife and I bought the significantly more expensive 8000 series Samsung model of the same size. SUPER ULTRA HIGH DEFINITION. Once we got it home and set up, we found that the picture was no where close to what we saw in the store. WHY? NOT DEFECTIVE!! The three signal sources that we have: Blu-Ray, Verizon FiOS cable and FiOS lowest speed streaming from Amazon Prime are all 1080 resolution sources. NONE of ours are "4K." Simply, for what we watch, the TV was NOT worth the money. We took it back and dropped down TWO levels to this 6000 series Samsung. Took it home, set it up, and got a spectacular picture from our three signal sources with very little tweaking (there is at least one excellent web site with very specific setting suggestions for each model, IF you want to bother and if you feel it necessary). I was concerned that the "lower level" of TV, with an actual refresh rate of 60Hz (regardless of what Samsung calls it and regardless of their explanations of computer trickery) that motion blur would be a problem. I see it in our now 6 year old 46 inch Samsung. Apparently, the Samsung computer trickery DOES work fairly well. The motion blur is very minimal and ALMOST imperceptible. I DO see it, but rarely and very minimally annoying. I am told that sports fans would find it troublesome. Doubtful to me! The image quality is superb. Excellent color saturation, blacks, contrast, brightness, clarity and sharpness. The sound is surprisingly decent for a TV (NO TV, at any price level, has great sound. The likely assumption is that you will have some sort of external sound system for movies). I am hearing impaired until I get hearing aids and require a somewhat elevated volume. However, the speech is sufficiently clear from the TV as to not require use of my headphones. What IS disappointing in this TV, and the reason for the "but" in the title of my review, besides the poorly designed remote control that everyone complains about (commonly used control buttons are far at the bottom and are difficult to use because of their location), is the SMART app feature. Set up and connection to our in home wifi was fairly easy. Connecting to our Amazon Prime account was also easy. Streaming works very well. But use of the on board "apps" has been very annoying. I am particularly bummed that THIS TV does not have the same suite of apps available to it as does the 32" Samsung in our bedroom. I cannot get the "Accuweather" app on this TV. Of the ONLY two weather apps available, one is horrendous and the other slow, spastic, inconvenient and not overly helpful. Samsung tech support (I have spoken with them many times for several different Samsung products and have ALWAYS gotten the BEST care) tells me that there is NO WAY to change the app suite or apps that are available in each model. You have NO WAY of knowing any of this before you buy! For the picture and sound, this is a great TV in this price range. Streaming works very well as long as you can stand the remote control. The apps suck, but this is a minor part of the TV's features. This "lower level" TV ONLY has TWO HDMI inputs. IF you want to connect more than two HDMI devices, you will need an HDMI switch box. In my opinion, not worth upgrading to a better model just for this!

    Awesome Image; limited HDMI ports

I am coming from a lovely VIZIO E-Series E500d-A0 which stopped working after my son's basketball hit its glass. I was spoiled by its four HDMI ports, and the option to watch 3D movies with my family, which we enjoyed very much! So somehow, I knew that I was going in for disappointment on these two specific areas with this Samsung TV; however, I had high expectations on the so called "Samsung" type of an image that everybody talks about. I only had a chance to compare the images in stores but after seeing so many models your eyes tend to see all TVs the same. The recent Best Buy Super Bowl special brought the price down to the $570 neighborhood and I had to make a move when I saw one being sold in an open box at $440. I was a little bit nervous on buying this open box TV but after watching for a week I call tell you that this deal was a real touch down! The image on this TV is simply awesome. I don’t know what Samsung does but the image has a type of oil-painting crystal appearance that makes it so much distinct. I did not fully see the difference in store, but I immediately noticed when I brought it home and put it in the living room, at same place where our 3D Vizio TV used to be. My wife and kids were also baffled by how much better the image was in comparison the Vizio and they talk about it all the time. One of the recent reviewers said that “they need time for the eyes to adjust" and I fully concur with that statement. Quite honestly, sometimes it is a little bit scary how realistic the image gets, like on ABC/NBC/FOX weather news reporters, as they stand in front of the weather background, it seems like at any moment they will step out of the TV and walk right into your living room! It’s creepy scary! Bottom line, trading the 3D feature for a better image was hands down well worth it. As for the limited HDMI outputs, I have an HDMI A/V receiver at home, so I am using its pass-thru feature to connect all my other devices (Blue Ray, FireTV, XBox). It works well for me but I know that not everybody has HDMI A/V Receivers so the 2 HDMI ports can become a real letdown. Regarding the SmartTV features which some have said to be slow, I confess that I have not used it much but the little I used (Netflix) worked just fine to my expectations. Anyways, this is not a deal breaker for me since I use FireTV for smart TV features. Now I am thinking with myself, "if the image on this 1080p Samsung TV looks that good, imagine how a 4K Samsung would look like in my living room?” Well, for that I will wait for a few years until the 4K price tags lowers a little bit more. Maybe by that time the market will also have more options for 4K content delivery, which at this moment seems to be still pretty limited.

You probably get the best picture quality at the most affordable price with this item. The picture quality is excellent, especially if you plan to use it mostly for movies. You may need to adjust settings a bit to disable some functions to get good color calibration and eliminate soap opera affect. Some of the high end TV's and even most 4K TV's in the market are actually 60Hz TVs and you get judder when you watch movies. (movies from bluerays, dvds and computer files are 24 fps. So if you have a 60Hz tv, since you cannot divide 60 to 24, the TV plays one frame for 3 times and the next one for twice. This results in un-smooth motion which is called judder. It is highly disturbing for experienced movie lovers). However, this tv is an actual 120Hz TV and you will have no problem with watching movies. One of the great things about this TV is that it has a number of codecs that you can play your movies right out of your portable hard drive. Most tv's can only play files from a flash drive but this one reads from anything. I connected my 2TB WD external hard drive and it works like a dream. Smart features are not that great and extremely slow. Once you turn on the TV you may need to wait about 5 minutes before you can start using smart features. I believe it takes its time to connect to wifi. You can improve that by an apple tv, roku or chromecast. It has a full web browser, which is great yet does not support java, so you may not play some content online. It is also a very thick TV yet not very heavy. Another reason that I picked this TV was that you can use 10% bestbuy movers coupon. It was a great addition to our new place.

My short and simple review. Pros. Light weight Bought for 699.99 on sale 741.00 with tax Smart tv Can install any wireless keyboard through USB not bluetooth Cons. Stand is cheap and does not rotate So I like the feature that I can hook up a wireless keyboard and mouse combo like the one that logitech has or the Rii Mini i8 handheld keyboard. I was disappointed that the tv stand was kinda cheap and didnt rotate. Overall im very happy with the tv for the price.

This is not our first HDTV, but is our first Smart HDTV for the livingroom. Prior to making this purchase, I learned about what Ultra HD (and all those others hi-tech terms were about). I contacted our cable company to make an informed decision if we really needed the Ultra HD feature. Ultra HD is not available in our area. I had read several reviews saying that that feature isn't available in their location either. Therefore, I chose not to buy a model with that feature - spending the extra $, if we don't have that available to us. Technology just changes so fast - what will be out next that I might really want. I also read review upon review for months on end - going back to the Best Buy site as well as others - to see what those who had purchased this model had to say about it. One of the main complaints was the stand being flimsy. I have to agree with that. I don't see that being a huge issue for us due to the TV stand we have it on and its location. One reviewer stated that you can't go wrong with getting a larger screen for a small room. I tend to disagree with this. The picture is very clear. Colors are vibrant. Sound is great for not having external speakers hooked up. However, our screen size is the 55" and it's too big for our room. Visually, it's hard to focus on the screen when watching it in full screen (from the TV's location to the couch - we sit about 10' away). The eyes don't see the picture as clear as when you sit back further. We've put the setting on 4:3 (I believe that's how it goes) which works 100% better. Sitting 20' away (where my desk is in reference to the TV's location) - there's no issue in full screen. The time for the TV to turn on once the power button is activated - takes more time that a CRT TV (tube), but nothing compared to the Sony DLP-HDTV we replaced this with. In connecting to the apps - at first the TV needed to update - not a big deal and was to be expected in my eyes since who knows how many updates had come out since the day it was manufactured. We've had no issue connecting to the internet. Sometimes Netflix takes a few seconds more to load - but I attribute that to the high traffic on our wifi. It really isn't bothersome. The other apps - we haven't tried. For our use - there are plenty of the necessary connections for HDMI etc. We had Best Buy deliver the TV and hook it up. They had no issue what-so-ever in doing so. They made sure all was good before they left. I also had them take away the old TV rather than me having to worry about finding it a new home, selling it, or paying to have it disposed at the dump....even though all it needed was a new bulb. I just didn't want the hassle...those TV's aren't light in weight! One issue is that some movies come in as though there is a lag. For instance - people walking - you'll see a shadow casting lag (not sure that is the right term). These movies tend to be the older movies (think early 80's and before). Not a huge deal on our end since all other aspects are fine. We have not hooked up a DVD player or DVR - we're not huge movie/show fans that way now that there's Netflix and other streaming platforms. I waited to get the TV on sale and given its price point, I am pleased with it. This is the second Samsung Smart HDTV purchase for our home. I had purchased a 32" for my daughter at Christmas a couple/three years ago and for what I paid for that TV - this one was only a couple hundred more. In seeing how nice the picture was on her TV - I had a preconceived notion that I really wanted to buy another Samsung. We are not disappointed. In fact, comparing this Smart HDTV to our Sony Bravia DLP HDTV - this TV rocks the boat. The picture is so much nicer. Now here's food for thought - our Sony was a 50" TV and that screen was not hard on the eyes to watch when sitting on the couch - unlike this one which is only 5" larger. Personally, I would use the method of determining screen size for this make/model/etc., that they recommended years ago when making a flat screen purchase like the Sony we had. That formula was - for every foot you're sitting away from the TV - multiply that by 4. Example: You're seated 10' feet from the tv's location 10 x 4 = 40" screen. If you're saying, "but you went with a 50" screen when you made that purchase," that was because my disabled son would sit in his wheelchair further away from the TV than we did and he has a visual impairment; I wanted to make sure that he could see the screen fairly well. Now, he doesn't like to come out in the livingroom to watch TV. All-in-all - this is a great TV for us. I would purchase it again myself (just not as big of a screen).

This TV has it all without paying for 4K which is two or three years down the road, no one has the bandwidth yet to broadcast at that rate and by or if they do the format may change. That's what happened to me when I bought my first HDTV when it was first available. This TV has an excellent picture with many different adjustments that can be made personally. The geek squad set it up for me and couldn't have done a better job. I used them because I am color blind and wanted the best picture possible and have my dvd and hearing device set up correctly. It would not be to difficult to set it up yourself if you want to try to do it yourself. the TV has a built in E_MANUAL that will walk you thru the set up or do it for you. This is one of the best TV's you can buy.

This probably will be our last 1080 HD TV. The next will be a 4K. Just didn't want to over spend for this TV for our vacation cabin. Without making a comparison to 4K, the overall picture quality (color, resolution, refresh rate) are very good. Sound, without any additional sound bar, is also quite good for the relatively large volume room the TV is in. Viewing angle continues to be issue, but only if you are sensitive to the loss of picture quality that starts degrading beyond about 30 degrees off center. This is an interesting topic, as some people are very sensitive to the degraded picture, while other people simple either don't see it, or don't care. For the money this TV is a very good value. Samsung, in my opinion, produces the best quality 1080 TV in this $ 800.00 price range. Buy the extended warranty from Best Buy; the peace of mind is worth the cost.

After reviewing several mid price range LED smart TVs, this one delivers excellent quality at a reasonable price. What I liked most about this tv was it's simplicity in both it's setup, and in it's functional use. Let's face it, some TV's come with so many options that for your technology challenge users, it can become overwhelming. I looked at this TV's use through simple eyes and found that any child, man woman, newbie, expert or elderly person would not have any trouble setting it up and using it daily without frustration. The picture is wonderful, the price is right and the functionality is appealing.

First, I bought this as an open box item, so my price was significantly better than advertised ($250 off list price). I was replacing a ten year old 42 inch HD1080p TV that still worked well. The picture quality is better than I expected. The colors are crisp and the high refresh rate makes for a smooth viewing. In fact, the detail quality is so high that it feels like 3D viewing on many channels and Roku. My one complaint with this TV is that the app store is limited and missing key apps like the ESPN and HBO GO. It is also the old year model so software is becoming less supported (the iPhone apps no longer work for instance). I didn't buy this TV for the "Smart" features because I have a Roku, but it would have been nice to put the Roku in another room and consolidate to one remote. All in, I think this is a great buy.

With my family and I moving into our new home we wanted a really great television with an amazing picture quality for our living room, since that is where we gather as a family to watch television shows and movies. When I saw the Best Buy flyer in the mail and that this particular Samsung was on sale too; after speaking to my husband we decided to purchase this television. The picture quality is so unreal; it's like we are on set and watching a live taping every time. We are constantly in awe each time we watch a program. We also love being able to access Netflix and so many other features right from our television. This has definitely been the BEST television purchase that we have ever made. Whenever family and friends come over they always compliment us on our television and we tell them we purchased it at Best Buy and would recommend it to everyone.

Once again, Samsung has produced a top notch TV - and at a very reasonable price. While not the model with all of the extra bells and whistles (which sound good but are never really used), this model gives you a 55 inch HDTV with SMART TV features and enough connections of different variety to allow connecting all of the usual devices. Quality of picture, ease of navigating through menus, and Samsung reliability make this TV a great buy - everything you need for only 1/3 to 1/2 of what models, offering only a little bit more, would cost. Recommended if you want quality at an affordable price.

First a word of caution. There are an incredible amount of model numbers so pay very close attention when comparing. Not all models are created equal. I purchased this model because it has all the advanced features that most people should probably need ex for those enamored with the very high end. Built in wifi, smart capability and 120 hz refresh all make for a great overall experience. Like 99% of all TVs, sound will need to be supplemented with a sound bar/dedicated surround sound system. The picture on this model is absolutely stunning, with both cable (Xfinity) and digital/DVD sources. If you have patients you can find this for $579, and incredible value at this discounted price point

I wanted to get my parents a new TV to replace their old tube TV. This product line had excellent reviews by Consumer Reports and good user reviews on websites such as Best Buy and Amazon. As my parents still use a VCR and the DVD player I purchased them 10 years ago a high end set with a fast processor and a large number of HDMI inputs wasn't necessary. The Smart TV functions aren't enabled so this unit functions as a basic TV for my folks. It is well suited for this purpose. The picture is fine and the sound is adequate. If your looking for an entry level name brand set this is a good choice. If load time for your apps and lots of inputs are important to you look at the J6300 series or one of the 4K models.
