The picture quality on this Samsung HDTV is simply spectacular. Blu-ray movies and TV shows have never looked any better. Can't wait for 4K programming and 4K Blu-ray releases soon. Easy set-up and great features. Love the Smart Hub and internet browsing is very good using the built-in Wi-fi. This HDTV was on sale and definitely worth what I paid for it . Highly recommended!!

Outstanding image quality/resolution and great colors with deep blacks.
Sound quality also much better when compared to my previous 55 inch/9000 series of 4 years ago.
I like the pointer/mouse like feature on remote....need to get used to it ....but afterwords it becomes very efficient in entering data or making selections.....
Overall I am very happy with the purchase.

The UNJS8500 is Samsung's highest-end 2015 TV with a flat rather than curved screen. It delivers very good picture quality, with relatively deep black levels, accurate color and solid video processing.

What's the Problem?

I don't get it.
It is common knowledge, more or less, that a little Googling about one's (possible) health issues can be a dangerous (i.e., misleading) thing to do. In my little life I'm starting to expand that theory to online research about....let's say....consumer electronics. If I hadn't taken a deep breath (and a leap of faith) I would still be on that sad, analog-TV-enhanced couch-- paralyzed by confusion and indecision. I was psychologically ready to take a radical step in my personal evolution: I was ready to go digital. TV, that is. But the more anecdotal reviews I read (the ones written by consumers, not by "experts") the more depressed I got. I was already established as being "brand loyal" (to Samsung!) and I was wanting this certain model that was suddenly on sale at a ridiculous price. But....I couldn't possibly go ahead and buy this guy because. . . because of all of the unhappy things people were saying.
There were trends at hand...repeated "observations" (complaints). Even a few months later I cannot address all of them (haven't fully explored everything yet)-- for instance, "apps not working". Believe it or not, I have yet to fool around with any of those. But otherwise....the remote is horrible (not at all, actually; pretty darn useful though-- yes-- its pointer takes a little getting used to). The TV "shutting itself off" (huh?). The audio going out/having to use two different remotes for functionality (again I say..."huh?"). "(Software) update did not resolve problem with dimming of brightness" (gee, all one has to do is read about the sensor for that-- it is easy to adjust/turn off). "Not Direct TV-ready ("what you talking 'bout?" If I have recurring complaints here it is basically about my DirectTV-- apart from the TV; DTV generally has always been readily-accessible BUT I have found out that it is simply the 'nature of the beast' that you gotta wait 3-5 seconds for a changed-to channel to show itself. Boo!).
More: "Defective 1-connect is a 'common problem' " (where do people get their information? Again, I've had zero issues). "Endless loop of software updating" (haven't noticed). "The manual is only online" (well, yes-- and available via the TV; do you really want to pay for a big fat [and eco-wasteful] paper'n'ink mini-book? (I believe such arrangements are indeed quite common in the world of more-complicated-than-the-old-days consumer electronics). "Weak, uneven, crooked support stand" (why did you let the installers leave before you were satisfied--- unless, of course, it is your own fault because you chose to install the TV yourself; bring over your big, strong and possibly tech-y nephew to help you finesse the thing).
There are other "complaint trends"-- ghosting, blurring, darker in the center. Difficulty in switching the inputs. Default advertisements. Undesirable interactions among settings. The look of the TV's frame is distracting. I could go on....but why?
Now I am NOT a technical guy (nor a Samsung or BB employee) but I'm smart enough to conclude a few things about this entire scenario:
--Getting into the diigital TV world is, to some extent, getting into a new hobby. It ain't always gonna be "plug-and-play."
--Ya gotta sometimes quit surfing channels, take a breather, think, and READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! No, you don't have to absorb the entire, monumental manual but you can spend some time with it, can't ya? It seems to me that a number of these observations would have been resolved with just a little research.
--Think of the growing online phenomenon of cyber-bullying. Sometimes I think that this social media concept could be applied to product feedback! Why all of the negative nattering? Y'know, people pass you on the right, even on the quiet streets. Their lives are too fast-paced and self-obsessed. Immediate gratification is the watchword. [Gee, I've never blabbed this extensively in my entire Internet existence!] I'm starting to think that consumers are exhibiting some of these same habits. Complaining is safe and easy, patience is sometimes in short supply (wordiness is obviously not , for me) and, finally,
--Remember the big picture. When I was doing my (retired-librarian) TV research last winter I was indeed beginning to despair of the entire project. I eventually realized that a decision was going to have to include a little risk, a little danger... and a lot of feedback from a patient, knowledgable salesman (thank you, Joe, at Best Buy Eastgate). Perhaps most significant is the macro perspective: I was getting beaten down by the 123 less-than-positive consumer reviews that I had encountered. Eeech. But one morning I woke up, realized that there were also 479 5-star reviews and, though I have never been good at math I was pretty darn certain that the percentages were in my-- and Best Buy/Samsung's-- favor. Things simply could not be this bleak. The people who loved the product LOVED the product. So, I got dressed, got my credit card, went to Eastgate and lived happily ever after. . . more or less!

The only thing bad I can say is that when watching people talk the words don't match the movement of there mouth. just like the old kung foo movies do but not as bad. I read a similar review but bought the samsung anyways. It wasn't doing this a week ago and the t.v is about two months old. Other then that the picture and all the features are flawless. It looks like it does it only on certain channels not all channels all the time.

I did quite the amount of research before narrowing down my selection to this TV. What matters to me most is sports and movies, with the very occasional gaming. When I saw that this TV was pretty much the best in viewing sports at the time I made the purchase, I knew it was going to be worth it. Overall I am 110% satisfied with the JS8500 and I have had nothing but a pleasurable experience with it. The picture quality is excellent - pretty much the best I have seen with my eyes compared to anything else. Putting it in "Sports Mode" while watching the game brightens up the colors and pretty much eliminates any motion blur. Watching the Blackhawks on the ice is quite an exhilarating experience, as well as football, baseball, basketball, etc. Overall I am happy I decided to spend a little more to get the best of the best, and I would recommend this TV to any sports or movie fan. You simply cannot go wrong with this TV!

Purchased this television on December 26 after purchasing the Samsung 7000 version on December 24 for myself for Christmas. Had some broken pixels on the 7000 version and when I returned it I saw the 8500 again and it looked so good. Didn't think I'd watch the 3D all that much but the higher refresh rate was great. I actually saw it on sale at Amazon.com for $1495, which was $304 less than the $1799 price that Best Buy had and they matched the price. Plugged it in and set it up without a problem. I like the external box that everything plugs into better than plugging everything into the TV. And the remote is fantastic. I love the dedicated Samsung SmartHub button on it. The Sports mode makes any sporting event look like you are at the game. Next up is an audio upgrade to Sonos. I have a wired system now which is ok so I don't use the TV's volume but I have listened to it and it is fine. Definitely would recommend.

The style is modern with a silver finish frame. The picture is vivid and sharp with great sound, and the TV was easy to set up. Very pleased, this TV replaced a Sony and so far we are very happy with our decision.

Up graded from 12 year old TV to 4k Samsung 55 inch, bought the Sony but took it back. The Samsung works with more aftermarket accessories, particularly preloaded Blu-Ray movies on hard drives. Great product for size.

The picture is awesome. Great features. the pointer remote is great. it take some getting use to.
the only thing is that when playing movies thru USB (Ext. HH) they freeze for a moment and then continues but fast forward some frames until it plays at normal speed. not everything is perfect I guess.
Waiting of software update.

This is our first 3D TV and 4K TV and all I can say is that it is AMAZING! From regular TV to DVD to Blu-ray to 3D this TV rocks! Picture is Awesome! Was going to get just a 4K but a lady I work with said that they love the 3D in hers and if you have kids like we do spend the little more and be the place where them and all their friends want to hang out. The video graphics on PlayStation 4 is unreal even the sound is great without a sound bar. I looked at Sony because the 50" that I replaced was one but the screen seemed a bit dark to me and the Samsung seemed brighter and clear. Glad I did not procrastinate over spending a little more over the js7000. Your only here once so you might as well enjoy. Love the new TV
