I mean, come on… this TV is ridiculously great. For starters, this TV was WAY easy to set up. We had a wall bracket already in place, so apart from a moment of heavy lifting, installing the TV was as easy as putting it down and screwing it in. Setup was super simple - we were able to connect the TV to our wifi and then synced up all our relevant apps with the OneRemote within minutes. We then tinkered around with the SmartThings app and Ambient Mode… it’s pretty neat to have a TV that doubles as a wall art-fixture. I’m not a fan of big black boxes on the wall, so it was great to easily create an ambient background that matches the lighting of the wall behind. It’s one of those “why has no one ever thought of this before?” features… Ok, so let’s get to the picture quality: it’s insane. Quantum Processor 4K is crazy sharp. I’ve watched Planet Earth for HOURS since getting this TV. My roommate’s also commented that the picture quality has made gaming way better because he can make out what’s going on in the screen with way more clarity. And the Quantum Dot colors are crazy. I didn’t know we could make colors like that appear on a screen… I’ll also make a plug for the Ultra Viewing Angle - we’ve got a HUGE window in our living room, and it often washes out the picture. Not so with this TV. The picture is as sharp and colorful as ever, regardless of the room lighting. So my answer is “yes,” if you have the money to drop… the Q80R QLED is a great buy.

The Samsung Q80R is exactly what was needed in this house. The clear picture, the crisp sound us just wonderful. This TV has is it all-- ultra viewing angle, 4K, 2160p, virtually no glare and more! Watching the Q80R is as clear as day, anytime of day, with Intelligent mode adapting to the light or lack there of in the room. My favorite part is the FreeSync for gaming, virtually no lag at all ups my game. The smart TV features about every app there is. Streaming is seamless and the picture looks great even on my standard definition movies with the 4K upscaling. It really is hard to find what the Q80R is missing. I'm still figuring out the remote and the tutorial built into the TV is really helping. I loved having the manual and tutorials at my fingertips for set up, which was a breeze. Just five minutes from unboxing and we had everything ready to go. Everyone compliments the TV, we have now been deemed the house to come to during football season for the foreseeable future. Really loving this TV and how easily I can screen mirror and how flawless it connects to both our galaxy phones and tablet. You won't be disappointed with this TV.

Samsung QLED Q80R Simply Stunning

The Samsung 2019 QLED Q80R is fantastic. It includes all the features one would expect from a Smart TV. Surprisingly, it took barely 5 minutes to unbox and program the TV.
Samsung truly designed this TV to look minimal and modern. Grooves that run along the back hide and hold cords as do slide-in hollow feet. The clear and crisp 4K screen is encased in a sturdy metal body that almost perfectly matches Apple's Steel Grey products. The US version of the Q80R is not compatible with the Samsung No Gap Wall Mount. The current Samsung Mini Mount WMN550 model only comes with instructions for 2015-2017 models. We had a lot of figuring out to do ourselves. Once mounted, the Samsung QLED Q80R is simply stunning.
The technology includes; adaptive brightness, adaptive sound, Ultra Black Elite anti-reflection technology and ample voice-control options. The panels deliver ultra-wide viewing angles so colors are consistent at any viewing angle. Blooming is negligible. While Voice Assistant Bixby can be useful. It is distracting. I would prefer an iPad to push content through the Apple App and Airplay2 when available, ditching the SmartThings App altogether. Ambient Mode is welcome as background decor. This includes weather, news and some lively nature scenes. Moving wallpapers would be a welcome addition. This model does away with the bulky OneConnect Box. The OneRemote communicates with the TV via RF signal for you to be able to control the TV from anywhere in the room. However, it communicates with cable boxes through an IR signal. OneRemote does not have full functionality for cable boxes. There is no outlet for an IR Extender. With handy Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime dedicated buttons on OneRemote and future Apple APP integration, many users may opt to do away with cable altogether.
Overall this TV is an amazing product. It's design, functionality and quality of viewing is simply outstanding It is an upscale model which includes many modern features at a reasonable price point. It exceeds our expectations.

Well.... I did not do much, but i did help take down the old tv and put up this tv. After that, I just watched the simplicity of setting everything up, and it was quick!! The tivo and apple tv automatically were recognized by the tv and the intelligent picture settings provided a perfect picture out the box. Now that I've played with the tv for a few weeks the ease of use seems to top the previous samsung tv we had. Not to mention how great the picture is. Its seems to have deeper blacks and brighter colors than the last tv. This is definitely the best tv we have owned yet. We have different apps for movies that we use, like netflix and amazon. They are so simple to use and the pictures on all of the different apps is just spectacular. The tv remote even has special buttons for those apps. What i like the most is when i fall asleep the tv shuts off after whatever time we have it set for if not used within that time period. And we also have the nightly timer set for bedtime in case we fall asleep. All in all, a wonderful tv with a great great picture that blows me away every time i see it. I watch SD shows also, and they seem to still be in HD on this tv. Love my tv!!

Just like the summary says. This tv is a beast. I was debating between the q70 and the q80 and I’m so glad I went with the 80. The full array local dimming works great. The anti reflective coating and ultra wide viewing angle make a huge difference. Blacks are nice and deep and colors pop. Especially in hdr. I upgraded from a q6fn and the picture difference is night and day. 1080p signals from a cable or satellite box are handled well and have a excellent picture. If you really wanna see this what this tv is capable of throw on a 4K Blu-ray with hdr. Setup was super simple as well. Pretty much just plug and play. I had this tv setup and was watching tv in about 15 minutes. This is a great tv for gaming as well as watching movies also. The motion and response times is excellent. I would definitely recommend this tv to anyone looking to upgrade

This TV has a brilliant picture. The colors pop out at you almost making it feel like a 3D TV. My husband set the TV over our fireplace mantle with a drop down TV mount. He said for the size of the TV it’s not heavy at all. The metal bezel gives it a touch of class. The remote could have a little more functions on it. My family loves the Samsung digital channels. It has made movie nights so much better with the great picture quality. The internal speakers are also quite loud for such a thin TV. Sometimes I even forget to turn on the soundbar and don’t realize it.

I had the Sony XBR55X850C for the past 4 years, and was sick and tired of the "gray" blacks, and weak BOOM in the picture. It had great resolution, but the menu sucked. I love the menu, resolution, clarity, blacks and color with the Q80 65". So happy I purchased this. Easy setup too. Great help from Best Buy #20! Pictures show just how black the images are in a dark room. CRAZY! You don't need to spend the money on OLED, QLED works just as good. Photos taken with Note 10+.

QLED VS OLED
I had been fully committed to buying an OLED TV for the past two years because of the superior picture quality, but that all ended when I read about the Rtngs.com burn-in study. They were clear that the testing that caused the burn in was extreme, but as a heavy gamer I fall into the highest risk category due to the prevalence of static images on many games. While $2000-$2500 dollars is far from the most expensive TVs out there it's a significant investment and I simply can't risk a ruined screen in the first year after purchase. That combined with the strides Samsung's QLED line has made in improving black levels was enough to sway me to the QLED.
PICTURE
With the decision to go QLED I knew I wasn't getting the best possible picture, but I wanted to get close while staying in my budget and I believe the Q80 does that. The HDR is amazing. One thing the QLEDs do to negate the advantage of OLEDs perfect blacks is to provide brighter more vibrant colors. Pretty much all QLEDs do this well. Where the higher end models get even better is with the local dimming. In the past LED screens were edge lit (the colored LCDs relied on lights shooting across the back of the screen from the edges to illuminate). This is what causes the greyish cloudy look to most LEDs. Last year the Q8 and Q9 received full array backlighting meaning instead of light shooting across the panel from the edges there are lights all across the back of the panel. This allows local dimming so less light bleeds into the black areas of the image on your screen. This year Samsung expanded full array backlighting to include the Q70 as well as the Q80 and Q90 (the Q60 is still edge lit). The higher the number the more dimming zones the panel has and the less light bleeds into the blacks. With the Q80 I have very little glow even around white lettering on a black background. To notice it at all I have to be watching in the dark. The Q90 would be even better but it was pushing my budget more than I felt the extra dimming zones warranted.
FEATURES AND USABILITY
Perhaps my favorite feature is the voice remote. Every once in a while it doesn't understand me, but for the most part it is pretty good at recognizing what I say. It's also very intuitive. I still haven't read any instructions for using the voice recognition functions. I just tell the remote to switch to PlayStation and it does it. When I want to watch my cable I say switch to spectrum or switch to charter and either way it knows what I mean. Then I can say switch to espn and it changes the channel on my DVR even though I never had to do any pairing. There's yet to be a legitimate command that it didn't understand. Aside from that it naturally comes with the standard suite of preloaded apps and; as an added benefit for spectrum customers, Samsung is one of the few brands that allows you to install the spectrum tv app.
Audio
Not much to say here. The sound quality is okay but I usually have to turn it up to 35-50 to hear things clearly. I use my headset for my games and my home theater surround sound system for my cable shows.
OVERALL SCORE 9/10
Great picture without the risk of screen burn
Easy intuitive voice commands
Sound isn't going to wow or irritate
Pricy but a great value considering the other options in this range. Cheaper and safer than the OLEDs.

I received this TV as an early Christmas present from my fabulous wife (She’s fabulous with or without bearing great gifts).
As my summary line says above, this is a VERY good tv. I wanted, originally to get an OLED from LG, thinking that the QLED was only a substitute technology (maybe lower) for Samsung, because they didn’t want to pay the Licensing fee for OLED. While there may or may not be a nugget of truth in that theory, I learned a lot about the difference between the 2 technologies. I will spare you the technical details here and recommend that you peruse You Tube for comparisons - of which there are a lot!
So, MY reasons for choosing the QLED had less to do about the technologies and more about the application of said technologies. First off, the OLED does have a beautiful picture, has HDR 10+, Dolby Vision, yada, yada. QLED, while having all of the “common” picture quality standard compliance’s, surprisingly is missing Dolby Vision - so take it into consideration if you find that to be a big deal. It wasn’t a horrible omission for me. My previous TV was an early 55” 4K LG smart TV from way back in 2015, still had a great picture when we sold it. Moving to a 65” QLED was as a big of deal as when we went from 1080p to 4K. The color on the QLED is captivating. The blacks are truly black. And the 240 motion is a real treat, though I have seen a handful of blurring in a sporting event or 2 - but it is very rare.
Another big factor in selecting the Samsung is the anti- reflective screen. My older LG 55”, while having a great picture, was quite compromised by a bright, sunny of which we have a few in Phoenix. I saw an OLED in a brightly lit room, and it’s picture was hard to enjoy.
My one complaint on this TV is a not the television itself. It’s the remote. I like having a single remote that is able to control the TV and its pertinent, peripheral devices, My complaint is that it feels cheap, looks cheap, and most importantly, has no backlight for the buttons, It’s true that there are so few buttons, that one should be able to recall where each command lies. But you would think that with a, basically $2k TV, you might get a device that felt good in your hand, and had a simple back lighting system.
That is what kept me from giving this VERY Good TV 5 stars.

4.5 stars - Excellent picture as you would expect from a high end TV. Great blacks, great whites, fast smart features, 4k content looks awesome and for a VA panel it has a very good viewing angles. A microphone on the remote...WTH
I had to take off a half a star for 1 reason - the HD content on regular cable is not so impressive. At first I was about to box it up and return the set. I watched a hockey game and it was terrible, adjusted settings and couldn't make it look any better, unwatchable.
A few other channels were not so great either, I switches to some other sports and they looked fine. Some channels are good some not so much. I gave it a few weeks and decided it was acceptable enough to keep the set.

Definitely the best TV I owned. This is the second 4K and this particular one looks a lot better than the other one we bought. For the first time I actually had to use the default settings on my games for the brightness and it still shows up clear. I notice I can see everything when I’m playing. My KD ratio has gone they the roof. I’m loving it. The graphics look extremely good especially on the Xbox one x. I do have one complaint, is that for multiple Samsung TVs in the same room. The smart remote control both and I don’t like it because they both turn on at the same time and if I click the Xbox. Button on the remote both xbox’s Switch on. I have to use one of my older Samsung remote to fix the issue with both turning on. I wish they would have a way to program the smart remote to only effect one tv.

I was deciding between this Qled and the LG B9 Oled. Both have great pictures, but when I was in the store I could see all the bright lights and front door on the glass screen of the LG Oled. When I checked the Qled, it had the lights and front door, but they were quite dim and not distracting. I have a south facing patio door which gives glare on the screen. My previous Sony had a glass screen and I had to play around with the blinds and the tv angle to not see the glare. With this Qled, I don't need to play around for the best viewing angle.
I can see why some people may not like the picture when they get it home. On the initial setup, it puts it in Intelligent mode setting with Adaptive Brightness set. I was trying out the setting it configured before changing anything. I came in and turned on the tv and then the lights in the back of the room and the picture in Star Wars and some other channels I tried was so dark you couldn't make out 60% of the picture. It was the same on other channels and even the Guide was a lot darker. I then went in and turned off adaptive brightness and proceeded to setup the tv with the setting I got on rtings.com. The picture now is just right.
So if people just use the automatic setup from the tv, they may get a situation where they won't like the picture and if they are not the type to change the settings on their own, they may just want to return the tv.
This is also a great value where you get near the picture quality of their Q90r with most of the features at a lower price.

My old 65 inch 2015 Samsung 8500 series went bad (LED sidelight issue) and this was the replacement. This TV has the AI processor that upgrades standard definition to 4K. My cable box picture has never looked so good. Picture quality is awesome and the "intelligent mode" automatically adjusts the brightness and contrast depending on the room lighting. Watching 4K HDR content is a great experience.

Working great and was very easy to set up. Connected well to my existing sound bar. Not a fan of the new remote but can still use the one from my old Samsung tv. Picture is bright and clear. My old tv would lose connection with cable box frequently but so far haven’t experienced problem with this tv. Apps like Hulu, Netflix and Disney+ work really well.
