Setup was fairly easy once we realized the HDMI ports needed to be reset. Sound is fantastic and we’re not looking back. It fills the room and the Adaptive setting really works in enhancing the sound. Wish there was more of a front display and/or more settings in the app but it seems like all of these work like that.

Both verified with issues by Samsung. 1st unit, the rears would not stay connected and the soundbar would not initialize. 2nd unit, the sub woofer would not come out of standby mode. Both returned. Moving on to something else. Can't knock it for sound. it does sound good.

Sadly the subwoofer and surround speakers cut out frequently for short periods of time. Also the soundbar switches inputs randomly several time when starting up which means it can take up to a minute to get sound and video when using HDMI pass through. So this is inline with typical Samsung. The product is pretty and works well but the execution is bad. For the record. I updated the firmware, called customer support and even exchanged once to have the same behavior. In general I would avoid Samsung. I have had some good TVs but the refrigerator I bought has a faulty ice maker (again terrible execution) and they knew about the problem but continue to sell it and won't stand behind their design flaw.

Thank you for sharing your review of the HW-Q90R Samsung Harman Kardon 7.1.4ch Soundbar with Dolby Atmos. I am sorry for the disconnection issue you are experiencing between the rear speakers, sub, and soundbar.
Please know that the firmware update recently released to resolve this issue must be applied to all THREE components: soundbar, rear speakers, and subwoofer.

Please know that the soundbar will remember the last setting before it was turned off. If the source it was last connected to is not also on when the soundbar is next turned on, it could cause the soundbar to cycle through finding an input.

The unit did not seem to want to work with my Samsung QLED. They are made to go together but I had nothing but issues. If I have no media playing I get popping in the speakers. The new unit I received seems to have its own set of issues, At times it will not play audio and needs to be unplugged to work. The popping is still an issue. I am using premium HDMI cables with the ARC feature. Might have to return the second sound bar.

So much potential with great disappointment

That said when certain bass sounds and went to the subwoofer, it crackles so loud that it negates everything else this system should/could be. I am a strong proponent of Harman Kardon systems as I had one in a Mercedes I had. Quality of sound is unmatched. Right up to the point where it crackles at certain bass frequencies. So after months of frustrating work and conversations with Samsung techs, they finally agreed it needed to go back to them for service. The system came back from them with a note that all was repaired and tested. It sounded great, for about a day, then the same crackling began again in the subwoofer. Im so disappointed that I paid for what I thought was the best on the market and now stuck with a substandard system that makes weird noises at the worst times. Wish I could just get me money back...

The rear speakers on this 7.1.4 model are useless. So, save your money and forget about any sound bar system with any rear BT (satellite) speakers. If you want true surround sound quality, get a home theater receiver and good in wall and in ceiling speakers. But, the front sound bar, does make up for the small and low wattage speakers already in my t.v., that provide just average volume output, which is minimal usually.
