This is an excellent sounding sound bar. The only minor disappointment is the hdmi return channel and low volume of surround speakers. You either optimize control of other devices via hdmi arc or sound via optical cable. I prefer better sound so optical is best for me. Take all these atmos reviews with a grain of salt. In a perfectly symmetrical layout with perfect speaker placement and low ceiling you may get the wanted effects but impractical for most living spaces. Unit sounds fantastic in dolby digital and I believe most people will really enjoy the sound of this system. Obviously price and personal expectations will be what determines if this system is worth the money.

It was a toss up between the nakamichi 9.2.4, Samsung Q950T and the Samsung Q90R...I ended up going with the Q90R for a steal price open box and I must say it was the right decision. It was easy to setup with my LG CX tv and everything paired up but what I noticed was the rear speakers and subwoofer were not loud at all and I didn’t see any eArc option on the menu on the soundbar. I went online and apparently a firmware update is suppose to include a lot of upgrades. So I had to update the firmware on the soundbar and the speakers and online it shows you how to do it for both. Once I updated everything it powered off to restart and powered back on and omg the rear speakers and subwoofer bangs. I now keep the sub at 2 and the rears at 2 and it’s still loud as hell but before the firmware update I had the rears and sub at 6 max and it was super quiet. Now with the firmware update on the soundbar it now has the eArc feature display on it and it sounds awesome!! This soundbar is powerful and the Dolby atmos is amazing the surround sound mode is my favorite. The Q90R is by far the best soundbar in my opinion! Don’t think twice get this soundbar!

This soundbar produces some incredible sound, with its Dolby Atmos feature. It’s one of the best I’ve heard in recent times, and enhances your home theater experience. However the sound fills the room a bit much, and if the room is small (14x16), feels very loud. Also since the music gets loud, you have to reduce the volume when there is only soundtrack and increase volume when you have to listen to dialogues. In my opinion, it is a good buy at half the price, not worth $1500. Still I recommend the product, definitely try it out.

All the reviews are pretty spot on. This soundbar packs a punch. The way the sound travels thru the room still amazes me. I’m glad I went with this unit. It was a little pricey, but after having it for almost month... I don’t know how I was even doing without it. It was extremely simple to set up as well. Awesome unit

Dolby Atmos is amazing. It's "better" sound than in a theater because the sound effects are closer to the listener in a smaller room of a home than in a bigger box with a hundred seats (or more) at a theater. I had a 5.1 "surround" setup before. I was concerned about Bluetooth connectivity for the speakers in this Samsung system. My wife wanted to eliminate speaker wires. I also was concerned about the quality, frequency range and "depth" of sound that could come from a soundbar. The Samsung Q90R blew away all of our concerns and left us with the best audio experience we have had since we purchased a system with Advent speakers in 1975. Amazing engineering and sound directed to and bouncing off the ceiling actually does give the impression that you are seated under a canopy of sound that comes from floor to sky and anywhere in between.

I've had this soundbar for a couple of months now and have used it watching Atmos and regular surround sound content. The sound from this system is good if not great. The speakers including the satellites are metal mesh which I prefer. Set up was pretty easy, way more easier than the Sonos system I have set up. While speakers are great, I have issues with the app and the settings on the soundbar. For e.g. I have set up custom EQ settings instead of the flat (default) setting. Many times, the EQ settings revert back to None for EQ. This can only be changed using the app on the phone, not from the remote. Secondly, when the system is switched on, it won't remain on the Surround setting, it reverts back to Standard. This can only be changed from the remote control. Thirdly, (it hasn't happened in the last week) the soundbar would change it's input to HDMI 2 even though the cable is in HDMI (Arc). You can switch between different inputs such as bluetooth, Wifi HDMI from the remote, but you will have to use your APP to change from HDMI 2 to HDMI Arc. Fourth. I had my cable box going through the soundbar using the HDMI 2 input. It worked for one day. The signal does not pass through for me to watch the cable. I have not called Samsung to fix this issue. For now, I have disconnected the cable from the soundbar itself. The sound is great, when properly set up. I wish the soundbar came with calibration like Sonos does. For this money I agree with other reviewers Samsung should have included stands for the satellite speakers. Still awaiting the software update to update the Arc to eArc

I combined this with the Samsung Q90R 2019 4K TV. The remote control for the TV can also control the soundbar. Easy to set up and connect. Wireless subwolfer and sorround sound speakers are awesome. No speaker wire to run through the walls. The soundbar has upped our movie night and entertainment experience exponentially. Movie sound is awesome. We also use the soundbar to play Pandora, Amazon music and our iphone music. I'm not a audiophile, just the average Joe so I couldn't tell you the nuances and limitations of the system. To me, it sounds great and it's easy to set up and run. I'd definitely recommend this product to anyone who is looking to enhance their living room surround sound experience.

First and foremost, we love listening to Dolby Atmos. You can actually hear noises, conversations, etc. all around you, behind you and moving around. It makes you feel immersed in a movie and is an amazing experience. Set up was simple and connecting the speakers took no effort at all. I cannot imagine an easier set up. The number of connections is ample. In addition to more than 1 HDMI input, it can connect through ARC (which I love), Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. ARC connection makes operation simple as you merely control your TV as usual and the sound bar responds correctly regardless of source device being used. With that all that said, I hoped it would be equally as good for music. Unfortunately, it is not. While it provides room-filling sound, it is not as clear as I'd hoped for the price.

The installation process was really easy, the system is pretty much set up from the start. The rear speakers and sub-woofer connected to the sound bar effortlessly without me having to move a finger. The sound is immersive and amazing, it could get really loud!!! A true Dolby Atmos sound bar and the rear speakers are a must! the sub-woofer has a good punch; however, I think it could have been made more powerful for the price you're paying, but nevertheless, it has a good punch! I'm very excited about this purchase!

The HW-Q0R is an wonderful soundbar that is the best sounding bar I've owned as of writing this review. The sound is balanced and detailed. It handles object based sound exceptionally well, and Atmos content is where the Q90R really shines. Dialogue is crisp and clear. The sub is responsive, but not overpowering. A recent update even gave it eARC capabilities, if you are looking for future proofing. The rear speakers are not active all the time, but added the perfect amount of immersion for me. I know they aren't active enough for some folks, but just watch mad max: fury road. I did have some problems with it though. Dolby vision passthrough is not officially accepted, and I had to tweak my nvidia shield frame rate settings to get dolby vision passthrough. I was not able to get dolby vision passthrough with my sony UHD player. I only have ARC on my tv, and as such need to hook my player directly to the bar to get lossless audio. Recently, I also have gotten a few crackles on large cinematic moments during some Atmos content. In particular during blade runner 2049. I suspect this is due to a defective soundbar though. Barring these issues its a wonderful soundbar.

Truly outstanding soundbar. It's a bit on the big side, but definitely worth the space it takes up. Delivers powerful and immersive sound. It has a robust construction and sleek design to it. Fantastic for music, and especially for movies. If you have a device that is capable of Dolby Atmos, this is the soundbar for you. Watching content with Dolby Atmos provides incredible sound quality to makes it feel like you are in a theater. Proper placement of the bar and speakers will deliver an amazing sound experience that has you thinking you are in the center in the action with sounds going off all around you.

I was looking for something that did not require 300 lbs of speakers, wiring, two 15 amp circuits and a $15,000 investment like my current system. The Q90R handily satisfies my needs. I love it’s simplicity and it’s immersive sound. It’s well built and plays my FLAC(96) files with a smooth clarity and presence. It integrated perfectly with my 75” Samsung Series 8 and Samsung UHD Blu-ray player. I keep it’s sound mode on Adaptive...one of only 4 settings (unlike a receiver with 24 DSP settings) that sounds the best. Caveats: My tastes have changed from massive sonic power and purity to normal volume levels and no need to accurately reproduce a 12Hz organ pipe and the precision clarity of a ribbon tweeter. I also can no longer lift my 110 pound subwoofers. That said, I want to emphasize that the Q90R sounds simply gorgeous and is quite satisfying. It provides me all the thrills in movies and digital signal processing. But some will feel limited by the meager +-6db of attenuation on all settings...I find it to be just enough to find my sweet spot though by using the -6 to +6 twelve dB range. The presence and sound field produced is very satisfying and acceptable most of the time, but on occasion I want it all...you just don’t get that at this price point. Proper placement of the surprisingly fit subwoofer makes all the difference in low frequency satisfaction. Basically this is a safe bet even for audiophiles who understand what you will get at this wattage level and relative state of engineering. I suspect most anyone who purchases this system will be pleasantly surprised by what Samsung and Harmon Kardon have created...an excellent effort in a small package.

I absolutely love the experience this gives me and everyone else in the house. I bought this open box and it was worth it. The rear speakers will be low if you're not playing 4k dolby digital videos. Which means Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, ect... Won't have much loudness coming from them. But the sound is there.

I've had this system for just over 18 months. I was originally looking for a larger setup with an amplifier/receiver and multiple speakers around the room (and 2 subs). After a lot of research and pricing several options, I decided to go with this soundbar system. I knew it would have some limitations, particularly with settings and tweaking, but for under $1,000 (on sale) it was well worth the money. I have paired this with a Sony A9 77" OLED tv, which I thought would eclipse the soundbar as far as overall quality and wow factor, but the sound is always the first thing everyone comments on when watching movies or normal tv content, "that sounds awesome" - I've lost count of how many times I've heard that. Yes, I could get better sound from a different and much more expensive setup, but this thing just works great every day. It shines even at low volumes, which is a pleasant surprise. None of the detail or balance is lost when listening to content at low levels. It also sounds great when you crank it! The Atmos is there, but it's not particularly noticeable to me. My room is not completely square, so I might be losing some of the effects due to this, but it really doesn't stop me from enjoying every bit of the experience overall. I have no desire to go back to movie theater any time soon.

The sound from the sound bar is impressive. We had initially purchased the 80 in error, thinking we were getting the rear speakers. Returned that one for the 90. For an extra $400 there is not an improvement in sound. The sound bar is excellent, the rear speakers, not so much.

      Tony:

I am glad to see that you are happy with the output from the main soundbar.

Please know that by design, the surround rear speakers are supposed to simulate sounds happening behind the viewer. Therefore, most of the time the surround channels are only used for ambient sounds, which are naturally lower in volume.

However, there are a few settings you can change to adjust the surround effect to your preference:

      1) Make sure that the source (i.e., TV output) is sending surround channels to the Soundbar. If the source is not capable of surround, then set the Surround mode to OFF on the Soundbar by pressing the Surround button on the remote.

      2) If the source has surround channels, select the desired Sound Mode from the Soundbar remote. Choices are STANDARD, SURROUND, GAME PRO, or ADAPTIVE SOUND.

      3) Increase the volume level of the surround speakers using the Sound Control button on the Soundbar remote control. Then select REAR LEVEL or REAR TOP LEVEL. Use the Up/Down buttons to adjust the volume within a -6 to +6 range.

      4) Using the WOOFER button on the remote, you can adjust the volume of the subwoofer between -6 to +6 by toggling the button up or down. To set the subwoofer volume level to 0, press the button down.

Please refer to pages 26-28 in the User Manual for audio setting adjustments:  http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201906/20190620110147312/HW-Q90R_ZA_FullManual_01_ENG_190521.pdf

I hope these tips help to enhance your audio enjoyment.

Purchased this soundbar for use with a LG C9 OLED 55" TV and it works great. I have an Apple TV 4K connected to the HW-Q90R via a HDMI 2.0 cable which and then connected directly to the LG C9 via a HDMI 2.1 cable. The TV and soundbar communicate via eARC which was recently added to this soundbar with the latest firmware update. I have a Xbox One X connected directly to the LG C9 and it passes audio to the HW-Q90R via eARC as well. I've tested Dolby Atmos and it sounds great with the included rear speakers that also have upfiring drivers. The soundbar itself is well made, but I wish the subwoofer was of the same craftsmanship. For this price, one would expect top of the line build quality across the soundbar, rear speakers, and subwoofer.
