This is an Dolby Atmos Soundbar, so the normal sound is great. But the Atmos sound is AWESOME!!! Rear speakers are wireless and will drop sound sometimes, but not often.

Added this sounder to a Vizio Q65 and have been enjoying it very much. It is in a 15x18 room and fills it with excellent surround sound. Besides Atmos I like that it passes Dolby Vision. Setup was easy without any hitches. Gave 4 stars do to the price and that the rear speakers have short power cords making setting up the rears more difficult. I also like that Sumsung partnered with Harmon Kardon on this bar.

This product had some short comings such as needing to unplug the rear surround speaker to allow the sub and rear surrounds to sync correctly. Samsung addressed it in a firmware update and now this soundbar has went from a 3 star to a 4.

Purchase the hw-q90r after hearing the he-q80 r at the store demo. The system appears to be well built and heavy. The set up was very easy as every speaker is wireless (needs to be plugged in). Played with it for hours, adjusting settings, eq, with music, Blu-ray, tv, etc. and was impressed with everyone, the system gets really loud that I only experienced the volume half way so far. Only issue is the Arc connection via hdmi does not work, I’ve verified the feature was turned to on on my TV, reset my tv and soundbar but still no sound so I needed to purchase an optical audio cable, I read that the Dolby Atmos adaptive surround does not work with optical only with Arc so we’ll see if I can get assistance with this.

      Jonny:
I'm glad to see you are happy with the HW-Q90R Samsung Harman Kardon 7.1.4ch Soundbar with Dolby Atmos

Here is the step-by-step guide for your reference:
      1) With the Soundbar and TV turned on, connect the HDMI cable (not supplied).
      2) “TV ARC” appears in the display window of the Soundbar main unit and the Soundbar plays TV Sound.
      a. If TV sound is inaudible, press the (Source) button on the remote control or on the right side of the Soundbar to switch to “D.IN” mode. The screen displays “D.IN” and “TV ARC” in sequence, and the TV sound is played.
      b. If “TV ARC” does not appear in the display window of the Soundbar main unit, confirm that the cable is connected to the correct port.
      c. Use the volume buttons on the TV’s remote control to change the volume on the Soundbar.

      NOTES
      • If the TV provides an ARC port, connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI IN (ARC) port.
      • We recommend you use a coreless HDMI cable if possible. If you use a cored HDMI cable, use one whose diameter is less than 0.55 inches (14 mm).
      • Anynet+ must be turned on.
      • This function is not available if the HDMI cable does not support ARC.

      Also, please:
      1) Make sure the TV has the latest software version
      2) Try setting the digital audio output setting on the TV to PCM

This is the best soundbar I've ever used. My one small issue is that I wish the power wires for the speakers was longer and easier to conceal in my speaker stands for the rear speakers.

If you have a late model Samsung TV, this is the best way to get the sound you need from it, and from any peripherals you may own. It replaced a 9.1.4 Dolby Atmos/DTS:X system I had rigged up, and this is not only just as good sonically, it is a lot less of a jungle of wires and plugs. The only negative is the lack of eARC in Samsung TVs. We're still waiting. So if you are using this with your Samsung TV, you will need to plug any Dolby Atmos or DTS:X devices directly into the sound bar itself. Not a huge problem.

Main sound bar unit works fine, however rear speakers produce barely any sound, have to put ear right up to speakers to hear slightest sound. Also connection issues with my lg c9 oled tv in the hdmi earc port, almont every morning when i turn on the tv the sound bar does not turn on with my tv as it should, (seems to be a handshake issue)I have to unplug the hdmi cable at the tv and replug it in then it connects to soundbar and it comes on. Now I dont know if if thats the soundbar or a tv issue, nevertheless its very frustrating. This my second hw q90 r as i returned my first one with the same rear speaker issues. Probably going to return and get my money back. Wanted to like it but not a postive expeirence. Note: did firmware update and adjusted levels to no satifaction. Using Audioquest HDMI carbon cables and I know there directional cables

      OledKing:

Thank you for sharing your concerns on this soundbar.

Please know that by design, the surround rear speakers are supposed to simulate sounds happening behind the viewer. Therefore, most of the time the surround channels are only used for ambient sounds, which are naturally lower in volume.

However, there are a few settings you can change to adjust the surround effect to your preference:

      1) Make sure that the source (i.e., TV output) is sending surround channels to the Soundbar. If the source is not capable of surround, then set the Surround mode to OFF on the Soundbar by pressing the Surround button on the remote.

      2) If the source has surround channels, select the desired Sound Mode from the Soundbar remote. Choices are STANDARD, SURROUND, GAME PRO, or ADAPTIVE SOUND.

      3) Increase the volume level of the surround speakers using the Sound Control button on the Soundbar remote control. Then select REAR LEVEL or REAR TOP LEVEL. Use the Up/Down buttons to adjust the volume within a -6 to +6 range.

      4) Using the WOOFER button on the remote, you can adjust the volume of the subwoofer between -6 to +6 by toggling the button up or down. To set the subwoofer volume level to 0, press the button down.

Please refer to pages 26-28 in the User Manual for audio setting adjustments:  http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201906/20190620110147312/HW-Q90R_ZA_FullManual_01_ENG_190521.pdf

Also, please check that you have the most recent firmware update applied to all THREE components: soundbar, rear speakers, and subwoofer.

Purchased for use with new tv in our new (retirement) Home. Didn't want to wire my wife's new living room for home theater so we went with the sound bar. It's not bad for a sound bar and a lot less clutter than my old setup. I now have a man cave with my old 60" plasma tv and my 7.1 home theater setup. Blows the soundbar away!
