I had been contemplating an upgrade for my laptop hard drive for sometime now. When the price dropped below $200 for a 500 GB SSD, I knew it was time. The sale for this model definitely sealed the deal. What is nice about this package is that it comes with a CD-ROM that contains two software - one to clone and transfer the contents of the old mechanical based drive, and the performance tuning utility. I bought an Insignia USB enclosure so that I can clone the old drive over USB 2.0 interface on my laptop. I was thinking of using my Acronis TrueImage to clone the drive, but if you do not have Acronis or other disk cloning software or hardware, no worries - the drive comes with a cloning software. No need to purchase a special software for cloning your drive. The cloning software worked flawlessly. It took me about 5.5 hours to clone the drive, but once it was done, the rest was easy. If you have USB 3.0 or eSATA port, then it would take less time to clone your old drive. Once the disk was installed, I immediately noticed how fast Windows 10 Pro on my aging Dell E6510 started. After the installation, I ran the Samsung Magician utility to optimize the performance. I also took it's recommendation and changed the hard drive interface mode from the legacy IDE to AHCI. That probably improved the performance by a few percentage point. When changing the disk mode from IDE to AHCI via BIOS, the Windows 10 does not pick up the change automatically, and will result in a Blue Screen. You need to do a simple registry change while you still have the drive running in IDE in order to take advantage of the new AHCI mode. I ran Passmark Performance Test to see how much faster it is. The Disk Mark changed from 2768 to 3440. That is over 1/3 improvement on the Disk IOPS performance. Windows launch is much quicker, and all the Office applications that used to take minutes to launch, now takes less than 20 seconds to launch. I cannot be any happier now. This is by far the best upgrade that you can do for your laptop, along with maxing out the DRAM modules.

I bought the Samsung 850 EVO SSD to replace the failing hard drive in my Dell Laptop, The software included with the drive was used to image the old drive. You do need a SATA-USB cable. When I first tried to image the old drive the process failed three times, then I upgraded the software. When I did, it worked perfectly. After replacing the drive with the SSD and booting up- things worked perfectly right away and performance is unbelievably fast-- WOW am I glad I did this to my four year old laptop!!

This solid slate hard drive is fast and easy to install. Plus it can be used internally and externally. Great hard drive all around!

I used this to replace an HDD in my wife’s 2008 MacBook Pro. It fit perfectly and has made a lot of difference. Start up is much faster, programs open faster, saving is faster. All around it has been a good buy.

I looked up ratings on solid state drives and this on received an excellent rating. Easy install and great performance...

Samsung makes a great drive with the longest warranty out at 5 years! I've bought several in the last few years for new builds to fixing up older unit's. They are backwards compatible for SATA II, although that cuts the speed in half due to hardware limitations not related to the drive. When this brand goes on sale, grab one. The VNand RAM used is very fast & long lasting. Compares to many "pro" tier drives in speed, durability. Cost is the big thing, these drives are pricey, so get them on sale.

Purchased this while it was on sell. Well worth the price. My Alienware 14 laptop sped up considerably. Easy install also no problems.

I own a 2010 iMac 27 and about 5 months back my HD went out. After diagnosis, a new HD was required. I ordered the SHD adapter due to the thermal, plugged everything up and...perfect. Ran benchmarks. I felt like my iMac was much faster and the benchmarks confirmed that it wasn't my imagination. Several months later, this was a great investment and my iMac benchmarks close to the latest top of the line models. If you can't write as fast as you can read, things can get slow. Not the case here :)

Bought this to replace a hard drive that the system was indicating was going bad, or had errors. Luckily I replaced it before it was dead. Obviously, a SSD is faster than any hard drive, so performance has increased on the aging laptop. Best upgrade you can get for any PC, laptop or tower, if you don't already have SSD as your OS drive. Have 2nd backup drive in the laptop, so restoring was easy. No problems.

I recently moved from console to PC gaming and my HDD was not cutting it. I was told to buy an SSD and wow loading is faster as well as the bootup times. Great investment for a PC gamer. I suggest keeping the HHD install for storing movies, music, and files. Use the SSD to run the programs and OS.

The 850 Evo is the bee's knee's when it comes down to a high performance SSD for your PC. Turn on rapid mode and it flies!!!

This Solid State is incredibly fast. The load time and performance are amazing. Great drive for a computer or game system.

Great fast ssd at a slightly high price but I have a few that haven't failed on me. So I will stick with what is working.

Runs fast and has a very respectfule MTBF rate. THis is about the 10th Samsung SSD I have purchased and never has a failure yet.

Didn't do the pro because reviews said you don't need it unless you write/rewrite constantly. Put my OS on it and it does just fine.

This is the best solid-state drive to buy. Mainly because of the software that comes with it that allows you to clone your existing drive to this drive and then you just switch it out and you're done!

I expected an SSD to make normal use faster and I wasn't disappointed. Installed the drive, loaded OS and it's like having a new computer. Can't say if it's better or worse than other SSDs as it's the only one I bought. Has better warranty than others though. Installed in my desktop and wish it had come with 2.5 to 3.5 adapter.

Great price and excellent read and write speeds. Speeds seemed a little faster than the older 840 EVO I have. Comes with Samsung Magician software too which works well.

I've loved Samsung's EVO series since I first started buying them. They're fast and reliable. Amazing drive series.
