I can't vouch for the instructions, we used a migration software to copy the entire hard drive to the new SSD. I don't know where he got the software. The SSD connected easily to my Dell PC.

Outstanding Upgrade for 3 year old PC with HDD

I installed it for faster boot times for all programs, and so that load times for online gaming would be significantly reduced ("World of Tanks" online game). My load times are now WAY faster, and the install was super simple (many YouTube videos for installing this particular model are available). Long story short- my computer runs like a brand new machine, and only for the cost of the mounting hardware and SSD!

After installing this drive and copying over everything, I discovered they were right! Computer boots in seconds and loads programs much faster. The instructions have a link to a utility called Samsung Magician that can enable features of the drive and perform diagnostics. This is a fantastic program. Not really much else to say. Install it and it works. No temperature issues or performance issues.

Simple Bang For Buck Upgrade

The 2 key things are the SATA-USB adapter cable (to initially connect the SSD) the and downloading the Samsung Data Migration software (to clone the existing drive to the SSD). Follow the instructions, do not skip any steps. There's definitely a noticeable difference especially in starting Windows & Windows Updates. If your deciding on what upgrade to do, definitely do this one!

It works!

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased two other SSD’s on sale from another vendor because they were on sale to install in a Mac Pro (1,1 2007) hot rod project machine. Long story short neither worked leading me to believe that I had an issue with the logic board in my computer so I returned them. I purchased the Samsung EVO To confirm that the machine had internal hardware issues. With no hope whatsoever I installed the EVO and... it worked! Formatted and fully functional within about 3 minutes. Only time will tell how it performs in the long run but Samsung has a decent reputation for a reason so I expect it’ll function as well and as long as any other SSD. My only issue (and the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars) is that I wish they offered a preformatted and trim enabled drive as an option or at least some downloadable way to enable trim on legacy Mac OSX versions. Minor quibble but one worth noting as Apple doesn’t make it easy to enable trim on 3rd party SSD’s.

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung 860 EVO SATA III SSD.
Please know that the 860 EVO Series SSDs are compatible with Mac OSX. However, on Macs, TRIM is only supported for Apple's OEM SSDs and is not supported for Samsung's (or any other manufacturers') aftermarket SSDs. Apple has placed a feature - known as kext signing - onto their OS so as to not allow TRIM to run on 3rd party SSD's. This is not a Samsung SSD issue, but rather Apple limiting the use of 3rd party SSD's on their products.
