I'm keeping this one
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was quite skeptical about this as it had a lot of reviews on bestbuy complaining about the ease of use and connectivity issues. I followed the instructions and was able to set this up in under 5 mins. I have tried about 4 soundbars in different price range before buying this one e.g. Sonos beam + sub + surrounds (which I had owned for about 2years), JBL 9.1 (5.1.4 actually), LG SN9YG to name a few. I loved the beam as a stand alone soundbar but there is diminishing value in adding sub and the surrounds (specially the surrounds). LG would be slightly better in terms of the whole experience but I found that the vocals were not that good and I couldn't hear them properly in some movies. JBL 9.1 is an extremely good buy for the price but I ended up returning it for other reasons (not that i wasn't satisfied). I did experience a few drop outs but nothing major. That being said I'm glad that I returned it and tried Samsung Q950T as its just amazing. I'm no expert but I can tell you as an avid music listener and a movie buff that I really enjoy this system. Dialogues are clear, surround sound experience is better than what I have experienced (I have never owned a home theater so Im comparing it to the soundbars I've used) and so far I have not experienced any connectivity issues (fingers crossed). I will strongly recommend this to anyone looking for a good soundbar (surround system) and is okay spending 1400$ but if you are on a budget JBL 9.1 is also a solid soundbar for the price. Hope this helps.

A Great Sounding Bar With Issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Definitely some issues with this bar, but with the latest firmware things are getting better. Still hoping LPCM support is added for gaming with next gen consoles. Also wish there was more adjustability and configurations via the Samsung SmartThings app. An ability to tune the system to your rooms acoustics like Sonos would be a much appreciated feature too, especially at this price point. But even with these issues, the sound is the best I’ve heard from a soundbar, especially when fed quality source material. Hopefully Samsung continues support and address these issues via firmware updates... my fingers are crossed.

Amazing Soundbar
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I never thought to spend big on a sound system before but this made me feel like my purchase was worth it. Paired with a Sony Bravia X900H, it's amazing, for gaming or apps. Deep, strong bass, great mids and highs. Makes gaming and watching content immersive. Satellite speakers sound good in surround sound gaming, too. Makes Resident Evil Village that much crazier. Onlu complaint is that the display is on the top and i bought it as open box excellent with a footnote stating it comes with all accessories. I talked to an employee and they gave me a $25 refund, so i went on amazon to get a replacement remote for 8 bucks and it works/looks just like the OEM.

BIG sound bar but great sound for the price point
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great sound bar I bought to replace my $4,000 Bose system that died after 15 years. The sound is actually very, very good. Warning, the side / back speakers are massive. See the measurements and make sure you have a place for them and they need power nearby. I bought two different sets of speaker stands to finally get one that would work for situation. Best Buy took the other opened ones back without any issue! Other warning, this sound bar is very long. See the measurements and makes sure it is right for your space. I like it but some may not. Easy to dust as it doesn’t have the funky mesh cover like some sound bars. Overall, good value good sound and easy to install other than the back speakers.

Review
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok, I love this sound system. So why not 5-starts instead of 4. I think the controller is too simple. To modify settings then you have to make adjustments to the actual soundbar. Perhaps the app could have made given in a particular way. And finally, I like the foam material, but it is not friendly for cleaning it. As dust accumulates and is inevitable, it becomes a bit cumbersome to clean it. But great sound and finally it could be improved if two smaller speakers could be added for better sound direction and it lacks 8k bypass.

Great Sound System
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This system was used with a non Samsung TV over BlueTooth and it works very well. Almost surprisingly so! It's easy to setup, simple to connect to the TV or other sources, and indeed adds great sound to the environment. The satellite speakers are good quality. The only downside I found was you really need to make sure you have plenty of outlets for power since everything is powered via wall plugs for good consistent sound, etc, but mounting them on the wall or using a table for them is a good idea.

Great and Needs More Bass
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So 4 stars out of 5 because I have the q90r, so I used that for comparison and this unit gives the better surround sound, but the q90r unit gives great sound and better bass, which is what I always look for. Bass means a lot to me so, yes, it was worth knocking off one star. Bass shouldn't suffer for surround. Do both right. Okay, I will start with the negatives: the overall sound is really good, it is just that if you know more bass (from the same brand, very like unit) then you will still be expecting such. The bass is fine if you don't know though, so don't let that be a deterrent at all. The next negative is cosmetic. Why on earth did they cover the speaker faces with cloth... you know, that super old school look (versus hard plastic/metal that has been used for years now). It just makes it look ugly to me. The next negative is a big one and actually deserves the loss of a star (but this one AND the bass can share the star loss). Why, oh why on earth would you put any of the display stuff on the top of the speaker????? This makes the least sense to me out of everything. To be honest, something like that could be a deterrent for me. What is the point, when you are pushing things and you can't see what is happening (i.e., increasing and decreasing levels of sound, bass, other settings, etc.). This one baffles me. I had to keep standing up to see what I was actually doing. The worst and honestly most ridiculous thing ever. Okay, now positives. Wow, the sound is soooooo amazing!!! But you have to put the setting on surround sound for the amazement. The general surround sound is a lot better than my q90r. Now I will say this, you may have to mess with your settings to get the right balance because it may drown out the talking on the tv a bit. But I was so taken by the sound. It just sounds very immersive and loud (in a good way). I watched some 4ks to test it and then football happened to be on so I decided to see how that sounded too. Like I said, amazing. Put the setting on Surround. You will have to stand up though to see the top display to know that is what you are picking. The sound bar itself is big and heavy, but no different than the q90r, so if you know that one, it is almost identical in look and weight. By the way, if you are a basshead, don't be fooled by the overall watts alone, if this unit is more watts than the one you had before. This one had more wattage than the q90r but I just kept saying to myself, the bass is just not the same and I know I'm not crazy. So I searched and searched and found that the overall watts on this system is more, but the bass wattage was less. Ha haaa. Gotcha! Would I recommend this? Absolutely. It's not cheap though. But it IS a great system. Peace.

Q950T is a bass let down
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, dont buy this at full price. i got a great deal on a used one. This sound bar lacks bass and i dont understand why. I have a HW k-850 and makes the room quake. This Q950 doesnt do anything substantial. I was able to adjust all the equalizer setting both on the soundbar and in the smartthings app and still only got mediocre bass. the built in alexa app is good, but its the same as all alexa devices. the dolby atmos speakers are wonderful. they are large and very well made. the pairing of everything literally took me 45 seconds and they never dropped signal. the sound bar itself is interesting. i thought i would like the cloth material but 10min after having it out the box it already had lint from my shirt on it. i agree with most other, the metal grill on the sound bar is a very attractive look. the overall sound from the bar is DEFINITELY very crisp and loud, again lacking bass. The display literally sucks. I thought i could use the soundbar from the app which i am sure was Samsungs intent with the Smarthings app, but i dont want to have to take out my phone to adjust the sound bar. There are some small leds on the front of the soundbar that indicate volume changes, but even those leds are directional and short in display so you may miss the response from the sound bar when you turning the volume up. Again, the smartthings app using your phone would resolve that if you want to deal with it. I think i am going to return this soundbar simply because the bass response is soooo poor. This was an $1800 soundbar and my Alexa Echo puts out more bass than this. luckily i got this one for $1000 open box, im still not willing to keep it if the software controlling the bass output cant be fixed. Ill buy another model next year when it goes on sale.

Just WOW!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just watched Greyhound in Atmos. Surround effect is spectacular. Rear speakers are substantial, nothing like the smaller ones that came with the Q90R. The Mountain Dream MD5402 speaker stands were made for the rear speakers. Sound is beautiful for music and powerful for movies. Netflix and Disney+ Atmos movies sound incredible. Only dumb thing is having the display on the top of the bar, but you can adjust most settings with SmartThings app.

Samsung HW-Q950T
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I thought it might be an overkill to buy this high-end sound bar but I can only buy one and have no easy way to evaluate what we would miss out with a lower-end sound bar model so went ahead and made the plunge. Certainly liked the easy 'eArch' integration with our Samsung TV. There are times I have thoughts whether we're going to break any of the house window glasses or the neighbor will knock on our door. :)

A good soundbar that could have been great.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: - Setting up the sound bar was very simple and straight forward. I have read some reviewers reporting connection issues but provided some guidance in the order which the satellites and sub were to be connected. I followed the manuals instructions (for HDMI ARC connection) and was up and running in no time. - The first thing I noticed when first firing up the sound bar (Avengers End Game) was how much more immersive the soundstage was compared to the MS750. The previous soundbar got the job done, but it was just good clear sound. I never experience Atmos before and with my 9' ceiling I did look up a few times to see where the sound was coming from. The Atmos effects are quite good for a package that was smaller than the MS750. The rear channels and the sub are also far superior to the the addon units to the MS750. Sometimes I had to put my ear to the rears to see if they were putting anything out. Where as the Q950T I know for sure things are happening behind me. I am not an audiophile, but the impresses me. - Smaller bar over the previous sound bar. Cons: - The biggest con by far is the LED display placement. The only time a top display would b seen as beneficial is at the store looking down from the TV you are standing right in front of. What engineer or product designer thought this was a good idea? Everytime I want to change a setting/mode I have to get up and walk right in front of a 65" TV to look at the TINY display (if they put the display on top, WHY is it SO SMALL!? - I do not like the fabric that the bar and the rear surrounds are wrapped in. They are lint/dust magnets that need a lint brush or roller to clean. Again design team, I question why home theater electronics need to be upholstered. - The rear surrounds are a good deal larger than the rears of the add on set of the MS750, taking up more space than I'd like on the console table behind my couch. Will have to invest in speaker stands. - Roughly 20% of the time the soundbar does not turn on with the TV. This seems to be an inherit problem with ALL Samsung bars I have used in the past. Is this really THAT difficult to get right? - Alexa integration is not really necessary for my use case as I have a Fire TV Cube connected to my TV so it is redundant. - The SmartThings control is super basic with virtually no meaningful settings. It's not worth the hassle to open the app to control the volume. Also given the fact that the miniscule display is not visible while sitting on your couch, it would have been a major selling point to allow full control/customization via your phone. Seems like a huge missed opportunity. SmartThings should be the ultimate central control hub for TVs and all peripherals related. - No room calibration options? Seems like this is becoming a common feature for all the major players. Every room is different. To have a flagship soundbar not able to be optimized to the room it's situated in is doesn't do the product any favors. This Samsung HW-Q950T has replaced the mid tier HW-MS750 soundbar with the additional surround speakers and sub. And the sound I am able to get from this unit is impressive and satisfying. Unfortunately I could not not test eARC or Q-Symphony as my older Samsung Q9 does not support these features. As I mentioned I am not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination but at the full MSRP of $1700 I can't say that I would fully recommend this product at that price. The price point will undoubtedly fluctuate to make it a better buy. Updates to firmware and SmartThings integration would make the soundbar much better but given Samsungs track history for supporting electronics beyond their shelf life cycle I'm not holding my breath, especially with a new flagship Q bar on the horizon that they will be focused on pushing. My conclusion is while this soundbar is far superior to my previous setup and it is more than satisfactory for me, BUT Do Not Buy at at full retail.

||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've always been an old school surround sound guy with big receiver and speakers set up all over the room. After doing extensive research on Consumer Reports and other tech sites, this Q950T model rated the best. Went on sale for Black Friday and I jumped on it. Let me tell you, I am super impressed with the sound quality. It's incredible. If you can absorb the initial cost to purchase, it should last a long time in your entertainment room as I believe it's built for the future.

Amazing Sound.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This system is by far the best soundbar that I've ever owned. It is on the expensive side, but I'll never use the tv speakers again after hearing this quality. My only critique is that the digital display in on the top of the bar and not the front. You have to get up and walk to the soundbar to see what setting it's on. That is a major flaw.

||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup was easy. Everything connected like it supposed to. Was having an issue after I would turn the tv off and back on the next day it wouldn’t play any sound. I’d have to unplug the power cord and plug it back in to get it to play sound. Q950T
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Verdict: The Q950T is an exceptional sound bar. I loved it. The bass was gut punching and there was clear concise sound. I would have the volume on 18 and it would be so loud I would have to lower it. However, there was connectivity issues due to the distance of the bass and rear speakers. I had to keep the bass directly next to the soundbar in order for it maintain connectivity. Same goes for the rear speakers. I couldn't place the rear speakers too far because it wouldn't connect. So everything had to be relatively close. Also, my soundbar would sound distorted sometimes, if not all the time. Overall, I know this soundbar had potential, but no updates were provided to fix issues.

Ok value
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the sub and rear speakers disconnect and they are a pain to reconnect. Also the fact the display is on top of the bar I didn't think would bother me but it does a ton. That alone makes it returnable. Sounds wise it's clear. Base is very lacking. I didn't hear the atmos clearly and occasionally sound will drop for a second, usually during high action scene when it's most important. After having heard lower price nakamichi, I'm not sure I could suggest this to anyone unless you only want 2 speakers and one sub which lacks bass.

Posted .Hi Azagarth,
Thank you for your review of the Samsung HW-Q950T Soundbar. We appreciate your feedback regarding the design and performance of your unit.
Please be sure your firmware release is (v. 1019.5). I recommend using the SmartThings apps to update your soundbar.
Your issue may be caused by wireless interference. When there is a wireless device (e.g., wireless LAN) using the same frequency (5.8GHz) near the Soundbar, the wireless connection between the Subwoofer and Surround Speaker could become unstable. This will affect the quality of audio output.
In this case, the radio frequency channel of the Subwoofer and Surround Speaker can be changed as below :
1. With the power of the Soundbar on, vertically press and hold the WOOFER button on the remote controller for at least 5 seconds.
• The display shows “W-CH” and the currently set radio frequency channel.
2. Press the Up/Down button on the remote controller to change the radio frequency channel, and then press the Play button.
• The display shows “OK” and then the frequency is set to the changed channel.
• You can exit the setting mode by pressing any button other than Up/Down or Play.
The maximum transmission distance of the main unit’s wireless signal is about 32.8 ft. but may vary depending on your operating environment. If a steel-concrete or metallic wall is between the main unit and the wireless subwoofer, the system may not operate at all because the wireless signal cannot penetrate metal.
For optimal listening performance, make sure that the area around the wireless subwoofer and the Wireless Receiver Module is clear of any obstructions.
To maximize bass from the soundbar and subwoofer, there are two adjustments that can be made:
1) Using the WOOFER button on the remote, you can adjust the volume of the subwoofer between -6 to +6 by toggling the button up or down. To set the subwoofer volume level to 0, press the button in.
2) Adjust the bass control by pressing the SOUND CONTROL button (gear icon) on the remote control, then select BASS to increase the level. You can adjust the volume between -6 to +6 by using the Up/Down buttons.
For precise audio adjustments, you can use the 7-band frequency equalizer to optimize the sound for your room acoustics.
I hope these tips help. For further assistance with features, settings, adjustments, or functions please contact Samsung Customer Support at 1-800-SAMSUNG (ask for Soundbars), available 8AM -12AM EST, 7 days a week. Or text HELP to 62913.

Quirky
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tried the Sonos and was not impressed. Returned the Sonos for the Samsung. The sound is good, but the system is quirky. The sound will briefly cut-out 1 or 2 times per hour. If you are using the Amazon Fire and want the best sound, you will need to route your fire through the speaker…not really a good setup. If I were reviewing on the quality of sound only, then this would be a 5 star review. But, the quirkiness of the system cost this item a couple of stars. Yes, I could have returned it and chose not to…COVID-19 put a crunch on availability, so I felt like I had to settle and accept compromise.

Average sound performance and poor remote control
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is overpriced for what it does. The sub-woofer is disappointing. Also the remote does not bring up a pop-up window on the TV to adjust functions. You have to walk over to the soundbar and look at a window on the soundbar the size of a quarter to see what the "remote" is controlling. I asked the installers if this was the way it was designed to work and they said yes. That being the case, the remote is irrelevant.
