Customers praise the AM702 Series monitor's excellent picture quality and the convenience of its USB-C connectivity. Many appreciate the ease of use and the inclusion of built-in speakers and smart TV features. However, some users note that the brightness could be improved, and the refresh rate may not be sufficient for all users. Concerns were also raised regarding the sturdiness of the stand and viewing angles.

Multi-Use
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a monitor that could also be used to stream TV in our spare bedroom. It works great and our guest are able to watch TV, and I can use it as a monitor in our spare bedroom to do some work.

Too many compromises for this jack of all trades
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Samsung's AM702 Series 32" UHD monitor tries to straddle being a Smart TV and being a monitor, and the end result, while incredibly feature rich and versatile, doesn't quite satisfy in either regard. Such a hybrid approach isn't unusual to Samsung--I had a T260HD monitor of theirs years ago that was a 16:10 monitor, but had a TV tuner in it along with component video inputs. The AM702 exists in a similar vein, but updates this by making concessions to contemporary TV watching by dumping the coax port and adding in Samsung's excellent Tizen Smart TV platform. But the idea is the same: this is a monitor that can be a TV. It's loaded with features: Tizen Smart platform, 32" of UHD screen real estate, HDR support, a variety of inputs including USB-C, and support for DeX (which I tested with my Galaxy S20+, both wired and wireless, and it worked well). With all of that, what's the problem then? For all the versatility, it's not truly great at any one of these things. The resolution is good: 4K is great for a monitor this size, as 32" monitors with 1080p just don't have enough resolution for that size. However, for a big productivity monitor, I'd prefer an IPS panel for the viewing angles advantage. This has a VA panel, which has better angles than the cheap TN panels, but its real strength is in contrast ration (3000:1, pretty solid for a VA panel, and much better than IPS, which usually runs 1000:1). That will give you a better viewing experience with content like movies (which is why VA is my preference for LCD/LED TVs), as it will display deeper blacks than the often gray-ish tones of an IPS, but it's a concession perhaps to the way this monitor has its feet placed in two different worlds. Likewise, the feature set does include support for HDR/HDR10+. However, the rated specs indicate a brightness of 250 nits, and it does not appear to have a wide color gamut. That brightness is fine and typical for a monitor, but it's too low for HDR when that's mastered for 1000 nits (and Samsung has many TVs which meet or well exceed this). You might get a some enhancement, and the VA panel's contrast will help make any video content look good, but highlights are not going to pop like good HDR can. Windows definitely does detect this as an HDR compatible monitor and you can engage it under the Display settings. For gaming, I can't speak directly to any input measurements, but lag does appear low. I tried some FPS games and found no issues, and Civilization looked spectacular. But this is not a gaming monitor: while Samsung has been at the forefront for pushing variable refresh rates and FreeSync support in many of their TV models for years and makes a variety of G-sync/FreeSync monitors, you won't find that here. This is a straight up 60Hz panel. The one feature it does tout for gaming is a 21:9 mode: I couldn't get my GTX 1060 equipped Dell G3 to recognize this, but the idea is with such a large screen, you can do a virtual ultra-wide and still have a large image. I have nothing but good things to say about the Tizen platform that powers its Smart TV functions. App selection is plentiful, there's enough storage onboard for numerous apps, and it's very, very fast and responsive. Navigation is done through a curved, minimalist wand style remote that has dedicated Netflix and Prime Video buttons along with voice support, but might just be a tad too minimalist for my tastes. For those of you who are asking why not just use Netflix or Prime video in a browser on your PC instead of the apps, PC video playback is often limited to 1080p SDR only, usually for licensing reasons. The apps are far more reliable for the 4K goodness. The Samsung DeX works, and also has Office 365 support. I am not sure who buys a 32" monitor who doesn't have a computer, but I suppose it's there if you want to use it. It's responsive just like a PC. (Considering the S20+ has 12GB of RAM, it ought to!) I tried via both the USB-C route (kudos for including a cable!) and the easy tap to connect wireless. Speaking of USB, the back sports an entire USB hub of Type A connections, and the USB-C supports up to 65W. In the end, what to make of this? I am going to provisionally recommend it: provided you know what you need and understand this device's limitations, it offers a lot. But there are things I wish I could have, which I suspect might have been possible if things that aren't as necessary were dropped. To summarize then: it's a big, high resolution monitor that'd be great for productivity. But for that purpose, I'd rather have an IPS panel, because even with a big monitor, I like having more than one and that introduces viewing angles. It has the USB hub and a lot of connections, and the DeX support is handy if you have a suitable Samsung phone to pair with.... ...but it's also a Smart TV, which I definitely prefer a VA panel for. It has good contrast and HDR support...but it doesn't get very bright. Games look amazing on such a big screen and it has a potentially interesting 21:9 mode....but it's 60Hz and doesn't support any variable refresh rate tech when pushing 4K gaming is a tall task for most graphics cards. IF you'd like a monitor to do work on, and sit not too far off to the side, like watching streaming services but aren't videophile picky about HDR, casually game but don't require super high-FPS, and like the idea of potentially leveraging your Samsung mobile device into a PC-like environment, this is absolutely perfect. It does "good enough" for productivity, smart TV, gaming monitor, and provided you don't need beyond that for any of those three, it's a winner, especially if that allows you to consolidate down to one display device instead of multiple.

Pretty nice
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, it's a real nice monitor but can be a bit finicky to set up as a PC monitor. I would suggest searching the internet for suggestions on configuration. There are many approaches and some worked for me while others were worse than the way the monitor shipped.
