Wouldn't play discs right out of box, very disappointed

I bought this on sale before Christmas because it seemed to be an upgrade from my current Sony BD player by having dual-band WiFi and 4K upscaling. But after using it for several weeks the only benefit I found was that it booted up more quickly. The picture was good but not noticeably better than my non upscaling player on my 4K TV. However there are 3 very important areas where this Samsung was worse. First is the physical controls. I find it ridiculous that they are all on the top of the unit, labelled black on black so that you need bright direct light to see which does what. It might help if there was some tactile difference so that you could feel the difference between eject, play, stop, etc. But instead it is a smooth touch-sensitive actuation. If you have your player on a high or narrow shelf ... good luck. All controls should be on the front face of the unit. Second, the on-screen user interface is cumbersome, non-intuitive and just plain ugly. It is very difficult to navigate to the features you want. Sony's is the best in the business. Third, I found that on several discs I played the sound was slightly out of sync with the picture. Very annoying when a person's voice does not match up to what their lips are doing.

Purchased as a gift. The sale price was irresistable - appx. $100 for an upscaling BR/dvd player. I agree that the picture quality and sound are great. However I also agree that the instructions for using it were a little inadequate. It would be more user friendly to include a Quick Set-up guide. We have a Samsung tv but as one buyer mentioned, it didn't simplify the operation. One glitch occured at point of sale. I asked the salesperson if everything I needed was in the box. The box did not say what's included. The salesperson said everything was included. It was not - no HDMI cable!! That meant missing a full day of using the device until we could get a cable. An unusual oversight since most salespeople are happy to add another purchase to the original. Oddly the instruction book never listed what was in the box; it only described the remote and operation buttons. Please work on this. After getting it all set up, the onscreen set up menu was baffling, and took a while to sort out was was necessary and what was optional. Finally we just pressed play. The buttons on the remote are oddly placed, too; we kept pressing the Home button instead of what is vaguely described as the Enter/OK button. A few times bouncing back to the menu screen got us out of that mistake. Otherwise this is a great machine. It would be a cool gift for a college bound student.

This has been an excellent DVD/BlueRay player. I have had it for about one year and it has performed flawlessly so far. It displays brilliantly on my Samsung 4K tv.

We got this because of the numerous DVD's we have that the kids like to watch. Our previous DVD player died, so we decided to get one that plays both regular DVD's and Blu-Ray. This was at a great price, so we bought it. It works well on both and takes up very little space. It also has Wi-Fi capabilities, but really not sure what we will use that for. Our TV is a Smart TV, so do not see the need. I guess if you have a 'Not-So-Smart' TV, then the Wi-Fi capability is a good thing.

Had to get an upgrade to a newer player after older Samsung played out :-) This player has phenomenal sound and picture with the best 3D image I've ever seen with my Epson 1080p 5030 projector. No more red faces or poor flesh tones in 3D and like watching movies all over again with an amazing amount of detail I've never seen (or heard) before. I didn't expect this degree of sound improvement! One caveat - I almost returned this player because I could not initially get it to play discs with my 1080p system and you MUST menu over and turn the Ultra HD feature OFF which is set ON by default if you don't have a 4K TV. It's not particularly intuitive but once I figured it out - WOW. The results were worth the miscue! Best picture and sound I've ever seen with my setup. I'd have dumped my older Blu-Ray player much sooner if I'd have known the improvements would be this great!

This Blu-ray player has the best of all worlds with the built in wi-fi. My television isn't a smart t.v. which makes this blu-ray player giving me all that a H-D smart t.v. has. The H-D player makes the picture extremely clear and sharp.

When I bought it didn't realize wouldn't play 4k dvd's only upscales so I wasted money on 4k movie that it wont play and Best Buy wont take back. Deciding whether or not to buy the Samsung player that is $100 more that does play 4k but not sure it is worth it if I can buy the cheaper blu ray disks and upscale, don't know how much quality difference there is but I can say my old blu ray discs I play look great on my new 4k tv. I did try playing Avatar blu ray and got error message that needed 2mg external drive but the disc still played and looked great.

Worked perfectly with my new tv-easy to setup wifi....upscaling is awesome.....great addition to any home entertainment system

Very user friendly and easy setup. Bluerays, which are phenomenal in he first place, are unbelievable.

We just needed something that would play BluRay passably on our big, new TV, and we didn't want to spend $500. This fit the bill perfectly, and the quality is excellent. I do wish there were more options for players without all the apps; there are so few TVs that aren't Smart TVs, they're redundant. Great for someone who hadn't yet upgraded.

There were only 3 different DVD players to choose from in the store so I was worried about the quality. When I got my husband to finally hook it up I couldn't believe the difference in how much better my movies were. Everything was so sharp, the color & picture. Couldn't believe what a difference this one was than my other DVD player.

Awesome Upscaling blu ray player. Looks great on a 4K tv. Crystal clear

Bought this to replace a playstation3 blu ray player. Took less than 5 minutes to connect to my Samsung smart tv. Excellent picture quality, loads of options settings. Sound is amazing through the surround sound system which is Samsung also. Very happy with purchase.

I bought this to replace my old DVD player that was turning on and off by itself and changing my tv settings while watching through other devices. This one is compact and functional. Great picture quality and operation.

This player replaced a Panasonic that took far too long to shut off. This Samsung upscales any disc very well to my HD 4K TV and turns on and off quickly. Paired it with my universal remote easily, too.

I'm glad I purchased this blu ray player. The picture is very clear and the movies look great on my 4K tv. It also has several smart options like Netflix, VUDU, etc. I would recommend this product.

This thing is awesome the picture is amazing even with a 1040 tv (I think it's 1040... don't quote me) but it's and older model tv and the picture looks like the fancy ones now

As I understand it, most of these players are essentially the same, with a few small design changes here and there. My choosing this was based on price and overall reviews. The biggest problem I have with this unit is that there is a touch-sensitive series of controls on the top of the machine, but there does not appear to be any way to open/close the disc drawer without the remote control. This is...a weird choice. Also, there is a display on the unit that shows disc time, etc, which is EXTREMELY bright. It is distracting how bright this display is, especially if watching a movie in the dark. I have considered returning the machine on that problem alone, though ended up not (mostly out of laziness).

The upscale on a Non-4K TV is amazing. Standard DVD's almost Blu-Ray Quality. Great Product!
