To be a Deaf person, this product is AWESOME
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For me, the good outweighs the bad and makes the cons so minor and petty. I have had issues with finding a cell phone with a strong vibration. My hearing husband, who travels for work, uses text as his primary form of communication with me. Often and too many times, I would miss his messages because of not being able to feel the phone vibrating. With the galaxy gear on my wrist, I never miss his messages. Maybe this isn't something others need but I find that this watch is a great little techy device. Samsung started somewhere and in my opinion, this is a good start. It has been consistently responding as expected. I've read other reviews from different sites about needing to shake their wrist just to turn the device on from sleep mode. I have not had that issue. When I lift my wrist as if to look at the time, the device turns on from sleep mode consistently. I personally love this device. The wrist vibration is just one of the many things I like about it. I'm able to respond to text messages by talking into the watch on s voice (Yes I am Deaf and Can talk). I'm able to send messages without ever picking up the phone. Very useful when driving. (Reminder, anything that distracts you from driving is NOT SAFE so use with caution). Also, I am totally baffled at the picture quality. I could not have asked for a better camera on this device. I have posted pictures taken using the Galaxy Gear. Maybe we can play a game and see who can guess which pictures were taken on my Galaxy Note 3 and which ones were taken on the Galaxy Gear. I will look for your responses. I've only had it for one day so I will see if I can come back later down the road to add information on durability. I highly recommend this device for what it does. A lot of other reviews focus on what it does not do. Keep in mind, the battery did run out before the end of the day probably because I actually used it a lot. If you are one of those type people that expect forever life in batteries needing only to charge it once a blue moon, maybe this device is not for you because it will annoy you. Despite the battery running out by the end of the day, this thing amazingly charged fairly quick within a few hours. So I'm sold right now. Again, a durability review will come later down the road.

If you want to be like James Bond get one.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want to be like James Bond get one. What I like is the Look, durability, easy usability, custom watch faces, easy setup, and updates. What I don't like is the Battery life, not waterproof, volume, protruding camera, noncustomizable watch bands, and charging cradle. Would recommend it. If you got some extra loot go with the Gear 2 and if you can wait it out the next line of Samsung watches will have the phone built into them so no need to lug your phablets around.

Note + Gear, The Perfect Combination!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I added the GALAXY Gear with great hesitation about it's overall usefulness. I was dead wrong! The GALAXY Gear took calls and responded to text messages with ease. The battery lasted 2 working days (After I turned off the wake-up setting#. I also use the voice-activated timer, pedometer and music control while working out or jogging. I had my doubts about the camera on the GALAXY Gear but then I realized that although the quality may be only as good as the front-facing camera on my GALAXY Note 3, it was perfect for bar code scanning and taking photos of business cards and coupons #now if only someone would write an applet for my favorite phone apps.)

I love it!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently got this watch after using the Sony Smartwatch for about a year. At first I thought being able to call someone on the watch as a Bluetooth hand set would be stupid and gimmicky, but I was wrong. It is very nice, and gives you some bragging rights to the right people. The screen looks great, has nice contrast and is big enough even people needing reading classes can read it ok. The watch is comfortable and looks nice no matter what you are wearing. The camera works well, and actually takes really nice pics, though sometimes I think the perspective looks a bit off. The sound quality of the speaker is good, but slightly quiet. Even turned up all the way, unless there is nothing going on around me, it is hard to hear people. I am told however, the mic picks up very well and is actually a bit louder than on my phone. I use this with a Galaxy S4 on Verizon and though I wish there were a few more apps for it, something like turning down the volume of your phone from your watch or being able to have a number pad keyboard set up to reply from the watch too. There are a few useful apps. When the market gets bigger for apps, this watch will be even better. I love it and I never leave the house without it.

Doesn't do much, but still a nifty little device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had my eye on the Samsung Galaxy Gear Smart Watch for some time. Quite literally--this is a very eye-catching watch and I was always drawn to the display of these watches at Best Buy every time I entered the store. But the full price seemed too steep to me for what the watch could accomplish, so I always moved on after admiring the watches. That is until Best Buy offered a one-day 50% off list price sale, and I immediately accepted that offer. And after using the watch for a little over a month, I feel it was well worth the money. I would highly recommend the watch to anyone who can find it at a discounted price, but would probably recommend against buying it at full price. It does some neat things, but not enough to justify the full list price. As I said, the appearance of the watch is striking and attractive. I figured as long as I was getting a somewhat frivolous toy, I might as well get it in a bold color, so I got the Wild Orange version. In the short span of a month, I have never received so many positive comments from people on any accessory or article of clothing I've ever worn. People would come right up to me and say, "Wow, is that one of those smart watches?" and then I would tell them about it. The main reason I got the watch was to avoid the hassle of pulling my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone out of my pants pocket every time I felt the buzz indicating an incoming email or text message. Especially when I am driving in the car and not able to get into my front pants pocket without undoing my seatbelt. This function of the watch alone is worth the (discounted) price. Both the phone and watch vibrate to indicate a new message, and if I am quick I can touch my watch to see the sender and at least the beginning of the message (depending on how long it is). If I don't look at the notification right away, I can easily swipe from the main clock screen one screen to the right to the notification screen, and then tapping on either the name of my email or text messaging app to get my messages. At least some of them. The system accumulates message alerts in an odd way that I do not quite understand yet. For example, right now, accessing my email alerts shows the following list: AAA Southern Pennsylvania 10:17 AM 2 new messages 9:32 AM 32 new messages 9:01 AM 33 new messages 9:01 AM 32 new messages 8:46 AM 31 new messages 8:46 AM 30 new messages 8:46 AM 29 new messages 8:31 AM and so forth. Clearly, some of these alerts are redundant, and it is somewhat annoying to see three different alerts for 8:46 indicating 30, 31, and 32 new messages. Couldn't the first two be automatically deleted from the display since the one indicating 32 new messages covers them? Also, unlike notifications of a single email, where I can actually see part of the email, notification lists only show the sender and subject line. What I have to do regularly to avoid this clutter is to manually delete these alerts. You would think that deleting emails from my IMAP inbox (from my computer or phone) would remove these old notifications, but it does not. I am one of those people who does not use my cell phone as a phone very often, but I've found the watch to be extremely useful when I do get an incoming call. Not only does it immediately show who is calling, but I actually have the option of accepting the call with my watch and conversing with the caller through the watch itself. Shades of Dick Tracy! This is a super-convenient feature, and people who've called me say that the audio quality is fine. If I actually phoned people, I could also use the watch to make outgoing calls, even employing voice activation. But like I said, I rarely use my phone as a phone so I have not tested this feature. The watch will also display missed calls as well as emails and text messages, which is a handy feature. Unfortunately, for some reason it is really difficult to get rid of missed call notifications. I think I had to reset the watch to do that, and Internet discussions have indicated that this is a flaw in the watch. Another very useful feature of the watch is that it notifies me of appointments that I have scheduled. I can dismiss or snooze these notifications. One highly touted feature of the watch that I'm not crazy about is its ability to play music from your phone. If it played the music on my watch, that would indeed be groovy. But, what it does is rather strange: It remote-controls the media player on my phone. So if I use this function, music starts to come out of my pants pocket. Weird. Also, the interface makes it very difficult to navigate and select songs. Might as well pull the phone out of my pocket when I want to play music. Another feature I found very useful on one occasion is the ability to find my misplaced phone with the watch. As long as you are in bluetooth connection distance, you can have the watch make your phone ring until you are able to find it. That worked superbly for me the one time I forgot where in the house I had placed my phone. The phone has other functions that seem pretty cool but that I have not used much or at all. The watch can take pictures or videos that are transferred to the phone. Have only tested it rather than used it a lot, but this function does work well. It's another feature that can make you feel like a detective or secret agent. I also installed a connection to MapMyRun, but haven't tried this one yet. And let's not forget the old-school function of a watch: To quickly see what time it is. I've not worn a watch for maybe 15 years because I've been able to get the time from my cell phone. I forgot how nice and convenient it is to be able to glance at my watch for the time (especially in meetings where it looks rude to pull out your phone to see what time it is). The face of the watch stays dark until you activate it by motion or pressing the button on the side. A bonus is that you also see the current temperature and weather conditions--a step up from an ordinary watch. In summary, this watch does not do a ton of things, and I would not consider it a must-have device. But it does do some pretty neat things and I would consider it well worth the price if you can find it on sale.

Product is as-expected if you researched ahead...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As indicated in my summary, research this tech before you go buy it. Definitely was a good buy for me as I got it on DOTD sale, and used BB points, so it was not a significant investment. Favorite features: Discreet reminders are nice for business. Hands free is pretty useful, but the speaker is a bit quiet. 3rd party watch styler makes custom watch faces a blast, though its selection of fonts, etc. is limited. Current update allows notifications from most 3rd party apps to appear on the watch. Least favorite 'features': Still a bit bulky, and strap may not fit everyone well. (Ok for me...) No button on left side for southpaws like myself - harder to press when wearing a jacket or long sleeves. Few options for using watch as input to phone. Battery needs charged daily. No calculator?!?! All told, I've been having a lot of fun with the watch. There's a disappointingly small selection of apps for it, but a couple of them are pretty cool, and 1 or 2 are even useful! ;) Since 2.0 is coming out in just a few weeks, waiting to compare the two is probably a good idea. I'm concerned that with 2.0 being non-Android for the OS, support for 1.0 may have already disappeared, so new apps and/or enhancements to existing apps are likely to be few and far between. With more development, there is some amazing potential - I wish, for example, that the music controller were compatible with multiple players, for browsing of music, art/song display, etc., but it is really very basic. So, if you get one, be sure to get it at a bargain price - I wouldn't pay any more than $150 for one at this point - they may be even cheaper in just a few weeks. But, if you have the dough and want to give one a try, there's a lot to like and enjoy!

Great companion for Galaxy smartphone users
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am currently using this watch with my Galaxy Note II, which has been recently updated to be compatible with this device. So far after a month I have been very impressed. The battery life is pretty good, considering it is a color display, and can get about 2 days out of it before needing a charge. I am able to get my text messages on the phone and read the full message, as well as full emails from my gmail account. The camera on the watch is also a nice feature so if you want to quickly snap a picture you can just swipe open the camera and shoot right away instead of fishing in your pocket for your phone. Plus it automatically sends any pics you snap direct to the phone so you can edit and share it with anyone. I was looking at the Pebble watch as well, and even though the battery last longer I found the the e-ink style screen to be a step back compared to the display on this watch, and also the longer battery was not a big enough selling point as I normally charge my devices every night so a difference of 2 days versus 7 days was a non factor. For the price, some people find $300 to be too much for this watch, but honestly I have normally spent more than that on watches over the years that did nothing but tell time and this does that and more.

Great Device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, I am a little upset about the price, but you do get what you pay for - another quality Samsung device. I am very happy with the unit as a whole because this is what I've always wanted - a watch to deliver notifications and speakerphone. I just hope that more app developers make apps for this device to integrate with watch. I will say, don't get this wet - remember to take it off before washing your hands and get a screen protector.

Samsung Gear Rocks!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Gear is an attractive device. I get many compliments on it. Two people at work have purchased one as a result of experiencing mine. The sync with my Galaxy Note II (had to do a software upgrade) is rock-solid. It very much a nice asset to quickly peek at incoming calls or texts when on the phone or even talking to someone. Quickly peeking at the watch is more polite than getting out the phone when talking with someone! The performance is outstanding. As mentioned, the battery lasts me three days which is certainly OK, but would prefer a weeks worth. I have the Gear on for an average of 12 hours a day. It is a bit expensive, but it is the first one (Samsung). The models that follow will probably be less expensive and employ more technology. The Gear meets moderate dust and water resistance, so I don't worry about rain, but would not recommend wearing in the pool of course! I highly recommend the product.

Samsung Galaxy Gear
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This watch is great. I looked at the watch in store for a long time, trying to decide if I should buy and if it would be something I would use on a daily basis. After having this watch for a few months I use it for everything. I leave my phone on my desk at work, and use the watch for calls, text and getting all my notifications. Phone calls on the watch are just like using the speaker on the phone. The person on the other end can hear me and i can hear them clearly, which was a concern when shopping for the watch. The quick text response are usually also. I can preset a few responses, just enough until I can get to my phone. The watch is useful. If your undecided, like I was in the beginning, just go ahead a make the purchase. Just be prepared for all the, 007, power rangers, inspector gadget comments.

great idea, needs better speaker
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an invention that has been long overdue. I like the fact that you can review, accept, and make calls from your watch. That being said, I wish using the menus was a little more user friendly--menu use is not bad, just expected less cumbersome way. I did not like the speaker volume--sometimes it was difficult to hear the other person. I also did not like the fact that there wasn't an option to choose your own ringtone. Even though I think this was such a cool gadget and could be another convenient use of bluetooth technology, those factors did not outweigh the negative factors I would give to it. As a result, I turned it in after a week.

Not bad for a first version
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While this is a decent smartwatch for a first version. The watchband needs to be a bit longer given that there is added bulk to the watch itself. The watch is thicker than a normal watch. Nice feature set for a very small screen. I don't really like the camera on the watchband. I also do not like that you have to put the watch in a case to charge it. It seems that it would be easy to put a microusb port directly on the watch instead of putting the watch in a case and then plugging the case into a micro usb.

Excellent small business purchase! Love it!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was at T-Mobile exchanging my five-week-old defective Samsung Galaxy Note II and the salesman was wearing this Galaxy Gear watch. I asked him to explain it to me and I was blown away! The features ROCK! I can snap photos of my pro demos from it, answer calls, see notices immediately as to when I received texts or fb or email messages. I can check the weather and it has a pedometer and many other useful features. I love changing the face of the watch to my family photos with different fonts and photos! I really wanted one but they are $300 at T-Mobile. The salesman said, "Well don't tell anyone I told you, but... across the street at Best Buy they are only $229!" Honey, I RAN not walked!! I bought the mocha one, more like a gun metal. It's gorgeous. I receive tons of compliments on my new high-techy device! It's just a Bluetooth on my wrist, but I love being able to talk hands free while driving and I am partially hearing impaired and yet I can hear perfectly on my Galaxy Gear wrist watch! Wow!! I highly, highly recommend this wonderful product! I never fear dropping my expensive cell now (as I once did at work, shattering the screen) because I can tuck it away under my cart at work and as long as I am 100 feet away from my cell, all is well! It charges quickly every night and I just cannot live without it already! Thanks, Best Buy and Samsung! WINNING!! ~Joyful Judi ;-D

A watch and more.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a nice watch with notification function and the ability to answer a call without reaching for the phone, (driving?) Lacks apps to make this watch really shine, however with the apps that I downloaded from the Samsung store, they kill battery. Normal use is 3 days for me, but with the watch face app, Cuts the battery in 1/2 on one day use. Not waterproof, so Nurses, Doctors, all those hand washing... you will get the watch wet. Build is nice. It works for me but I would like more app support to do more with the watch.

Great product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All together the Samsung Gear is a great product. The ability of the user to answer and make phone calls is a big plus. In addition, the user is also able to receive notifications when a txt message arrives, a phone call, and even missed calls. The user can also set up the Gear to receive additional notifications such as email. At the moment, there is only a limited number of apps available for the Gear but hopefully that will increase as time goes by.

Excellent Functionality!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Big fan of this watch! I own Sony's first attempt at a “Smart” Watch and it was frustrating. Now with the Samsung Gear, I have better connectivity, MUCH more functionality and better battery life - all with the same phone (S3). Receive a notification on the Gear and you can read it - text, email, weather warning, twitter, facebook, etc. then tap “Show on device” and it will unlock your phone and open the appropriate app. Synchronized notification management - clear a notification on the Gear and it clears it on the phone - and vice-versa. Camera takes surprisingly decent pictures and up to 15 second 720p video. I was afraid of the battery life after reading other reviews saying the battery doesn’t last a day, but my typical day is off charger at 8:00AM, dozens of notifications all day with work emails and texts, replying to some texts using S-voice via the Gear, 2-5 phone calls on the Gear, and back on the charger at 11:00pm with 68%-74% battery left! You can increase battery life by adjusting the screen brightness and timeout. I have to say the coolest thing about the Gear is its speakerphone capability. It functions just like a Bluetooth speakerphone and works very well in a quiet room and remains useable in a slightly noisy environment, but it just isn't loud enough to hear callers well in noisy environments. The only down sides to the gear is that it is only useable with select Samsung devices, and with this price tag it's actually embarrassing to admit paying such a high price. Luckily for me I have a compatible device (S3) and got it on sale after New Years!
