The S9 is a solidly great phone from Samsung. The screen is bright and clear and the camera features will help you take great looking pictures every time. It features really fast processor performance and battery life, plus fast charging. Take advantage of the wireless charging features and never have to fumble with USB cables again! I had a S6 Edge for about three years. I loved that phone, and it served me well until its battery stopped holding charge. It's a bit sad that these batteries are not replaceable - I could have kept that phone for a few more years if they let me swap out the battery. But the S9 is a huge step up (no surprise) from the S6 edge and I guess it's about time to get with the times! The only downside is the amount of bloatware that comes with the phone. Take a few minutes and uninstall everything that you can - some things are Samsung-required and only allow you to disable them. I'd pay ten dollars extra for a phone without bloatware. I don't really use the Samsung apps that much - it's all about Google, which is where Droid really shines. If you're coming from the iPhone universe, congratulations on finally avoiding the Apple tax. My wife switched over and it has taken her a while to adjust to the Droid way of doing things. It is admittedly a little less intuitive than the iPhone, but if you work at it you can always find a solution to any issues you might have with the operating system, whether it's lock screen behavior, tactile keyboard feedback, or auto-contrast settings. After a few months you'll find you don't even remember why you didn't like it in the first place.

When my original Pixel fell out of warranty and continually failed to make/receive phone calls, it was time for a new device. My choice was between a Pixel 2 and a Galaxy S9. Despite lots of research, what ultimately made the choice for me was my experience with the Pixel and Google's inability to resolve my phone issue. My last Samsung was an S5 so I haven't had any recent experiences with a Samsung but I never had any issues with the S5 so I figured why not. I've had the phone for a week now and am quite happy with it. Despite claims of bloatware, I haven't found too many non useful Samsung apps. Bixby is a disaster for sure but many of the apps I didn't need weren't "locked" and were removed with a simple uninstall. I do miss Google Assistant but that is still reachable in two clicks. The camera is fantastic. Battery life is average. The Samsung quick menu is incredible and made me wonder how I lived without it. I like the fingerprint scanner being under the camera lens instead of in the middle of the device like the Pixel. I also like wireless Qi charging which neither the Pixel 1 or 2 has. So much easier placing my phone down on a large pad at night instead of fumbling for a cord when I'm half asleep. Overall I'm quite happy with my purchase. Before the S9 arrived I had contemplated returning it for a Pixel 2 but after hearing the Pixel 2 hardware was made by HTC and the issues I see people reporting, I decided to at least try the S9 before returning it. Needless to say, the S9 is a keeper.

I have always used iPhone, but wanted to switch things up a bit. I sold my iPhone 8 to purchase this phone will Best Buy was running a promo for $20 per month payments, which was less than my 8! I have been using it for a week and my only complaint has been the battery life and a weird speaker phone issue I have been having. The battery life is about the same as my iPhone 8, which I was expecting to be a little bit better, however from what I have read it will take a week or two for things to get optimized, and I have already experienced a boost in the week that I have had it. The speaker phone issue started day 1. I would make a call and the receiving end would say I sounded like the phone was underwater, only on speaker phone though. After extensive troubleshooting, I have found that turning off the HD Voice Calling feature fixed the issue. Other than those two things, everything thing else is positive. The screen is fantastic, I love the customizability and features that the S9 has compared to iPhone. Overall, if you are looking for a change from iPhone, or upgrading your Android phone, this is a great and consistent phone to be using!

    Hate the edge

First let me say that the camera on this phone is great and I enjoyed making the emojis. However, I take very few pictures. I do use the phone for surfing. The bixby button is annoying and I have disabled it several times, only for it to start working again whenever the phone updates The housing of the phone is too slick and hard to hold on to. Then there is the biggest pain with this phone and that is the edge. If your hand holding the phone is even slightly touching the edge, you cannot scroll the page. You then are zooming instead of scrolling and it is a pain. You have to flat palm it and I had to put a pop socket on the back of the case, to hold this very slick phone and keep from dropping it, so I can scroll. Of course having the pop socket means that I cannot use the wireless charging feature. Why can't they just give us the option to turn of the edge touch? Lastly is the latest software update. When I buy a phone it is as much because I like the appearance as it is the function. I like the appearance of the icons when I first purchased this phone but this new update changed all of the icons on the phone to something cheap looking and cartoon-like. I hate these new icons and the appearance of this phone now and with the other features that I have described, I am seriously considering going back to my J7 Prime phone. Much fewer headaches.

Great phone; Galaxy S4 was better

This is a great phone. Easy to use and mostly responsive though it freezes a bit sometimes - definitely more than my S4 used to. It's larger than my old phone as well. I wish cell phone companies would stop making screens larger - it's incredibly annoying as phones no longer fit in pockets, wallets etc. The biggest drawback by far is the awful Swype keyboard. I think it's because they used to use Nuance's keyboard (which was incredible) but Samsung decided to create their own horrible, poorly-made keyboard and foist that on their users. This keyboard is absolutely terrible at predicting words. What's worse is that it changes words from the correct word to the wrong word *after* you've already typed several more words making it difficult to catch mistakes because you've already read through the previous message and *falsely* assume it's still correct. This is with autocorrect turned off!!! Writing this reminded me of that and I went back to double check my previous text - lo and behold, "words" had been switched to "weird". Anyways, with the exception of the very, very bad keyboard, it's a good phone which is why I'm giving it four stars. Also, warning: like other Samsung phones it has a bunch of useless bloatware installed (think NFL app, IMBD app) some of which you can uninstall but most of which you cannot.

Bought the phone in store as an upgrade to my wife's S7. Took 10 minutes in store. Got home, opened up Smartswitch on both the new and old phones, followed promt to connect wire (with adapter) between the old phone and new phone, checked off the boxes of what my wife asked be carried over from the old phone to new (contacts, calendar, last 6 months of text msgs, just the 3rd party apps she wants ). Then pulled the micro SD out of the old phone, put it in this new one, set camera app storage to the SD, boom - her whole phone world as she likes it was on a brand new device in 15 minutes with ease. Smartswitch is awesome. Phone is super fast, super smooth, getsures like side swipe for screen shot, and double tab the power button for camera... my wifes absolute faves. P.s. for camera, I showed her how to quickly swipe to pro mode, set ISO way up and shutter speed way to left around 1/1500, and she absolutley loves the awesome low light and fast moving pics the phone will take of our kids running by. And pro mode saves your last setting. So gone are the days of a great pic ruined by a blurred kids head... The samsung phones are killer, totally customizable, and super easy for keeping a happy wife happy life.

After being a part of the iPhone cult for my last two phones I decided to switch over to Android, especially after the whole slowdown issue due to Apple's batteries aging. I really wish I shelled out the extra $10 a month to get the iPhone X now because the S9 is the worst phone I have ever owned. That's not just hyperbole... I've owned a cell phone pretty much since they became commercially available and I am having a hard time thinking of a worse phone I've had. Texting on an Android phone is a nightmare. The autocorrect is bafflingly bad. It autocorrects words that I've spelled correctly into WORDS THAT AREN'T REAL all the time. I suppose the silver lining to this is it's getting me to stop texting and start calling people more often. Bixby is the most useless and bloated phone assistant on the market. Within a week of owning this phone I looked up tutorials on how to completely disable Bixby and it's moronically placed button on the side of the phone which I've accidentally pressed several times and been kicked out of apps I was working in. Out of the box there were several mainstream apps that simply did not work with the phone. I exclusively use Spotify and was unable to install it without figuring out a workaround. Coincidentally the phone comes with Tidal pre-installed. Tidal is trash. This is without a shadow of a doubt the LAST Android phone I will ever own. Apple has its flaws but at least their phones work the way they're intended.

Picked up this phone a few weeks ago because my S5 was really annoying me with lack of memory and battery issues including the battery getting hot while discharging. It was 3 1\2 years old, so it was time for a new phone. I'm getting used to subtle differences ( swipe left/right to change pages, up to access apps) and the the addion of the Bixby button. I am enjoying using Bixby voice commands and to show me things I'm interested in. I also like this camera better than the old one (although the one in the S3 was pretty good too.). I took some great fireworks videos and stills last week. The super slowmo created some neat effects. Very good in low light, and there is a pro mode I'm just exploring. One warning - get a cover, the finish is very smooth and easily slides off slightly tilted surfaces.

I bought the Samsung 9 to replace a Samsung Note 3 that kept locking up. I'm impressed with the updated features, especially in the camera. I use my phone for still photos and for videos. Shooting in 4K is a delight and various preset modes, such as HDR, are helpful. Because I do shoot lots of videos, I wanted to install an external micro SD card. Instructions on the internet said use a paperclip to open the slot. I couldn't make it work. I finally went back to Best Buy. They were great! Not only did they open the micro SD slot, they also gave me one of the "official" slot openings devices (looks like a paperclip, but is stronger). Since I do shoot so many photos and videos, my only regret is not getting the 9+, which has a built in telephoto and macro lens. The full screen display also works well. It was odd at first not having a home button, but you get used to it and the larger screen is a plus. The fingerprint sensor on the back works if you're holding the phone in one hand, but I also put the phone in a holder when in the car. Having the fingerprint sensor on the back doesn't work well in that scenario.

My Galaxy S4 died a slow and unceremonious death in recent days. No big loss... I'm not a talker or a texter. I didn't miss it at all. I have computers in almost every room of my house, so my head isn't stuck in a cell phone screen all the time. But recent circumstances required that I upgrade my phone so that I could be reached when necessary. The day after I got this, I found out that Samsung was soon to release a newer version of the Galaxy, but I don't care. This phone more than meets my needs, and it's a marked improvement over the dearly departed S4. Loving the curved 5.8 screen and the sound quality of calls and audio. Straight out of the box, as soon as I set it up, it married up with my television, washing machine, sound system and every other Bluetooth-capable gadget in my home without any help from me. Will I get a 400 GB SD card to expand the memory? Of course! Will I get a Galaxy Watch? Absolutely! The camera is very good, even in low light conditions. The colors kind of pop, so I probably won't rely on it for pictures that really matter. I have 2 DSLRs for that, anyway. But for its original , for example, being a *telephone*, this one is hard to beat!

I was excited to get this phone, I had ordered a case that ended up lost in the mail. So when the phone arrived I had to go a few days before the case would arrive. Laid the phone on a table and it vibrated right off. About a 3 ft drop. Called best buy and they said I couldn't return the phone if damaged even though I had only had it for 3 days. I called Samsung to Express how disappointing it was that I had safely sat the phone on a flat dining table and the combination of vibration and the slickness of the all glass phone resulted in a shattered screen. They couldn't care less that their design resulted in a repair that I would have to pay $300 for. Even though they advertise that this model is stronger. It absolutely is not. A 3 ft drop off of a dining table ruined my screen, and neither best buy or Samsung was willing to do anything to help. I would have been happy if they would have just reduced the cost to repair since I should be able to lay my phone down without worrying about it getting broken, especially after paying so much for the phone just days prior. They don't care. I've loved Samsung and if this hadn't happened I would still, but they have terrible customer service. I am so disappointed.

I replaced my 4-year-old Lumia Icon (Windows) only a few weeks ago. The S9 was really the best option for looking forward. It is only a little bit bigger than the Icon, but lighter and thinner. Use the Smart Switch app to move everything from one phone to the other; the tech effort in-house at BB was incomplete The Android transition has been challenging. I am spending a lot of time researching and adjusting settings. Predictably, although Verizon says I would be much happier with the 4G signal (replacing my 3G), I still get only one bar at home. Wifi calling as a workaround has limitations. You MUST have the Verizon messaging app in order to attach pics to texts. Auto-correct for texts was making me crazy and I found how to turn it off, but random characters that I did not press appear unexpectedly. Other reviewers have said the Samsung keyboard is not the best. Although I make maybe one or two calls in a day, only text occasionally, and the phone is sleeping most all the time, I still have to charge it every day and a half. This is disappointing, but better than the Icon.

    From Samsung S6 to S9

My S6 was just fine for me until it was ruined in my purse when a small container of salad dressing spilled all over it and everything else in the purse. I had to face the fact that I needed a new phone and did my homework. I knew I wanted another Android phone and compared the Samsung models available. Considering my needs and preferences, I selected the Samsung S9 and so far am very happy with it. There are many features that I still have to learn how to use but it is several steps up from the S6. The phone itself is larger and has edge to edge text and the camera is very advanced - maybe best on the market right now. So far so good and I look forward to experiencing all the benefits of this phone for years to come.. No more salad dressing in my purse! I highly recommend the Samsung family and this phone in particular - it has all the bells & whistles I need.

This S9 replaces my failing S5, and it is a lovely, fast performing phone, with a zillion little features, and terrific camera and video capabilities, which are noticeably better than the S5. I disabled some of the Samsung or other loaded software, to avoid duplication and clutter. Micro-SD card and OTG adapter capability is awesome for easy transfers. Issues: the new tall shape does not fit as many shirt pockets. The curved screen is cool but screen protectors are tough to find -- see reviews and complaints with tempered glass. (consider skinomi -- worked great for me) The notifications lights are confusing and erratic -- so far I cannot reliably see a little green or other LED to notify me of unread new messages. Note that this charges with new USB type C, so your old micro USB stuff will not fit.

Had an S7 which was a great phone, but after two years and all the system upgrades and normal wear and tear it finally needed to be traded in. Ended up going with the S9 and so far it hasn't disappointed. It's been fast, battery lasts longer, and has a ton of great features that I'm still exploring. Only downside I've found is that Samsung's version of Android Oreo takes away the feature of setting individual text notification tones for your contacts, but as long as you download a different messaging app like Textra, you'll be able to get past that little inconvenience. I also recommend downloading the Google Keyboard. You get a lot more functionality out of it than the preinstalled Samsung Keyboard.

Purchased phone online for store pickup that day because my old phone was crashing and dropping calls and I use it for work so needed before Monday. Picked up phone and was unable to activate. Called Best Buy customer service and was told phone cannot be activated until 9/13, (purchased on 9/8) was told to go to the store and they could activate today. Went to store and was told they cannot activate the phone until 9/13, and if I wanted it activated immediately I had to go to a Verizon store. Went to Verizon and was told they cannot activate until 9/13 because of the way Best Buy set up the account. I fly to Palm Springs to work on Tuesday 9/11 and I have a phone that doesn't work correctly and a brand new one that I cannot use. I would like to point out that all the Best Buy personnel I encountered were friendly and courteous and genuinely wanted to help. As were the people at Verizon if you care. So this is complaint about your system - not your employees.

I have really enjoyed Samsung products through the years, but the Galaxy S9 purchased through Spectrum is horrible. The first phone they delivered not only had bad sound, but the digital "assistant" sounded like she was having a hard time getting out of bed. And then, when I dial a number, I was prompted to "redial the number without pressing send" (with the keyboard covering up the number) -- a real pain in the proverbial (think buttocks). Spectrum sent me a new SIM card -- same problems. After five conversations with customer service, they finally sent me another S9 -- same problems! I know this is not a Best Buy issue because I did not sign up for Spectrum Mobile through Best Buy, but either Spectrum got a batch of S9 lemons, or the product is just very bad.

I purchased two phones (for myself and wife). My wife's phone had the mic stop working periodically. It now doesn't work at all. The speaker phone and headset with mic will work, but not the mic to make a regular call. There are several pages on Samsung's support blog with no resolution. We are working with Samsung but it doesn't appear to be a fix. We already spent 2 hours in the store to get new phones. Now, it appears we will waste more time with Samsung support only to get sent a new phone that could or could not work. We are going to give Samsung a call this afternoon but it appears that we may just switch both phones to something else. I can't risk having my mic stop working with all the work-related calls I make. And, to spend this much money on a phone to not have the main feature work (a simple phone call), it is pretty frustrating.

I upgraded from a 4 year old Motorola Turbo cell phone two weeks ago and really like the Galaxy S9. Voice sound is good and dialing directory/contact list is different. Need to spend time to tweak it - set favorites. Subtle differences but so far no issues. Do like the narrow width and the curve glass is nice but really adds nothing to the use of the phone. So far the power battery usage is good going almost 2 days. I did buy a Zagg curved glass protector and that was mandatory. After a week I picked an OtterBox Pursuit and it does a nice job of protecting the curved glass. The picture quality is good and there is lots of options but have not explored them yet. Hope to have time over the holidays to explore the features. I waited for Black Friday sales and saved $300. Best Buy's early Black Friday sales made it easy to avoid the crowds.

I've had it 6 months now, and Bixby hates the text app built it right from the beginning (I wasn't getting notifications, uploaded TEXTRA instead). Then after @2-3 months it would keep going offline (wifi and data usage, right in the middle of a google search). Originally, shutting the phone down and up on again fixed this for the day. Then it became multiple times in a day. I took it in and Best Buy couldn't fix it. They said to wait for a Samsung rep to come in. Then I called Best Buy and they said that the Samsung rep wouldn't be able to fix it anyways. So, Samsung is having me take it to UbreakIfix. IF they can't fix it, then I have to SEND IN MY PHONE TO Samsung & be without a phone for who knows how long. Extremely unhappy. Not to mention I just waited 10 minutes on hold for someone to pick up the phone before hanging up.
