I'm usually not a watch fan. I usually used a Garmin for my steps and for my information like text's and who is calling. I went through two of the Garmin Vivosmart bands. They both stopped working. I went with Samsung in hopes I could handle wearing a watch. So far so good. The quality is outstanding. I can reply to text messages right on the watch and see who is calling while driving without messing with my phone. It's also nice being able to change the watch faces at will. I highly recommend this smart watch especially in combination with the Edge.

I was looking at this smart watch ever since it came out and was waiting for any store to have it. I like the Samsung Gear S2 Classic over the regular version because it looks a little fancier. Having had this watch for a few weeks now I can say that it works very well. Here are some of the pro's. -My biggest need for this watch was to get notifications that I was missing on my phone. The vibration on the last few generations of smart phones has been terrible and I miss calls and texts all the time. The Gear S2 watch has solved that problem for me. I was able to configure just the notifications I wanted (calls, texts, emails, calendar, etc.) and skip the others that are less important that I can get to later (facebook, instagram, etc.) - The other fantastic feature is the screen and the interface. This is the only watch that uses a rotating bezel to navigating menu options. This IMO is much better solution over Apple's little side dial. The battery life is also fantastic. I am able to use the watch for 2 days on a single charge. Finally the fitness tools are pretty good. There is a setting to track your heart rate throughout the day the only caveat is that the watch needs to be pretty tight on your wrist which some people might not like. I have also used it to go running and it does a good job of tracking heart rate throughout the run as well steps and distance. If you take your phone with you it will also use the phone's gps to track your path. All of this goes into Samsung's S Health app which isn't as good as some of the other apps out there and I don't think you can access your data outside of the phone which is problematic. - The leather band is also very good. When you first get it is a little stiff but after wearing it for a couple of weeks it works very nicely. Additionally, it uses a standard band which makes it easy to switch it out for a different band of your choosing. The watch isn't perfect either. Here are some of the cons. - The watch OS is not android wear. Samsung decided to go with their own Tizen OS. The problem with this is that the list of available apps is a little limited at least for the time being. It isn't much of a problem for me but it is something to keep in mind. -Limited set of watch faces. This is the same problem as above. There are a fair number of options but it's not huge. There are also some nice customization options for each watch face. - No google maps. Same as above. You Here Maps instead. I personally don't like it and I think the screen is too small for maps. The phone is a better choice for navigation in my opinion. - The phone uses S Voice over Google Voice. I really would have preferred Google voice here. I have found Google Voice to be much better. The voice feature is helpful for responding to text messages on your watch and looking up info. Given the pro's and the cons I really like the watch. Overall the watch is great but doesn't hit 5 stars because of some of the cons listed above.

I had this watch for over 8 months and have been satisfied with it. I haven't been wearing my regular watch which cost a lot more because I had no use for it. My only issue is that the watch thinks you're on a bike when driving or on a motorcycle.

I enjoy this watch. I like the many choices for different watch faces. I think it is more accurate in recording my steps than the fit bit I used to wear. I'm still learning how to use it, but I really enjoy discovering new things.

    A very different experience

I've had a Samsung Gear Fit, then a Gear Live before buying this watch. (I've had the watch for about 4 days#. Is it perfect? No, but what is? But it is a better experience to me than either of the previous watches. I initially wanted a fitness tracker, but decided that as long as I'm putting something on my wrist, I wanted as much functionality as possible. I initially got a Gear Fit, but the screen aspect was too extreme, and Android Wear just came out a few days later. I returned that watch and got the Gear Live as soon as it came out. It was a big watch - kind of bulky. It attracted attention, some good, some critical. It looked kind of geeky, but it did a lot of what I wanted. However, with each revision of Android Wear, it became less useful. It wouldn't notify me of a phone call until at least a full minute AFTER the first ring. It became less responsive to voice commands. I broke two #expensive# cradles over the time I had it #there's a little latch that breaks easily#. I kept getting too many notifications and had a hard time dialing it down to what I needed. I liked the watch, but was losing interest in it because of all the hassle. I liked the concept of a smart watch, but not that one. Then comes the Gear S2. I had liked the Gear Fit, but was primarily worried about Tizen getting orphaned after Android Wear. With this new watch, it was apparent that Samsung is not backing down, but upping the ante. I got the watch. I also had a clearer understanding of what I wanted in a watch: -Easy to use - Wireless charging -Announcement of phone calls #when my phone is under a coat and seat belt, it helps. - Voice Dial -Voice text - Calendar notifications - Specifically settable notifications from other applications #such as some of my email accounts, but not others# - Heart Rate/Fitness Tracking. - Weather report would be nice. - Reminders would be nice. - Not *needed*, but I like it - control my phone's audio playback while working out. The Gear S2 hits all the points, although it's weakest on the reminders. I can do a voice memo and it can set alarms, which will cover the need, though I still want to see something like Google Keep - I like a reminder based on location #"Remind me when I get to work...."#. I find the user interface MUCH more enjoyable than Android Wear. There's a bunch of watchfaces, but my favorite -- BY FAR -- is the "simple" watchface, but modified. You can bring up an black dial with bright orange lettering, along with a date. It's incredibly readable in almost any situation. I tried the other dials that gave me battery level, temperature, etc. Simple was best. The voice command was initially a problem, and I think I have a part of it figured out: the second day out, my phone died when my battery went out. I charged it and immediately tried to voice-dial with my watch. It couldn't find any contacts, even though the contacts were in the watch if I did the dialing by hand. I tried factory resets, reinstalling the software, etc. I finally gave up, put it on the charger, and went to bed. The next morning I woke up, intending to take it back. On a whim, I tried the calling one last time. It worked perfectly. I believe what I've worked out is that when the phone came back up, it resynced the contact list #large#. It than had to rebuild the voice database, which took a little time. By just leaving it alone for awhile, it all came back up. The only other time that I've found that S-voice #the voice interface# is a little cranky is when the phone is switching from WiFi to LTE -- this was the same behavior as Wear, so I don't ding it; it's probably that lag when communication is switching over. S-Voice is good. Not quite as capable as Android Wear, but good. I've even had it give me a snarky comment if I said something out of whack, like answering "yes" when it wasn't looking for confirmation. It's not quite as fast as the voice interface for Android Wear, but it's not annoyingly slow. I expect to see it continue to improve, especially if this watch proves as popular as I think it will be. The included apps were very good. I'm not someone that wants to play Candy Crush on my watch, so a lot of apps really isn't too huge an issue, so long as my bases are covered. The apps that came were by and large very good. I've used Here Maps, and it's pretty useful. I like the CNN app a lot; Bloomberg is less interesting to me. The weather is just fine, though I'd like it to pull up a radar picture, like InstaWeather. S-Health is very good, and does what I need it to. The user interface is just beautiful. Especially with the rotating bezel, getting around on it is just fast and easy. It's also very configurable to put your most-used apps up front. The included apps have thoughtful touches, like a keyboard to dial the phone if you want; the ability to see text messages in a format similar to your phone. When paired with one of the best screens I've seen on a watch, it really is a pleasure to look at and use. I got the dark gray case. I like the rubber wristband - my wrist constantly changes sizes, and the band is consistently comfortable through the day. The watch is a little smaller than, say, the Moto 360, but it looks LIKE. A. WATCH. I'm a realtor, so I'm aware of how I present, and it looks good. It's attractive and not geeky at all. It draws much less attention, and when it does, it's usually because the screen is on and most people admire it. One other thing I like: the wrist gesture to bring it up. In my old Gear Live, if you moved your wrist and the watch woke up, it would be there until it timed out. #In both watches, I turn it off when driving more than a couple of blocks -- otherwise, it's constantly waking up# With the Gear S2, it will stay awake until it times out, or *until you drop it back down!* So if I quick-check the time then drop my wrist, it immediately goes off. Nice touch. The battery life is comparatively excellent. My Gear Live was getting about 18 hours between charges unless I put it in theater mode. With fairly heavy use #it IS a new gadget, after all!#, I have more than 50% at bed. This brings me to the charger. I never thought a charger would actually be pleasant to use. This is light-years better than most of the other solutions out there. It's a wireless charging stand. It magnetically draws in the watch when you place it on the stand to gently hold it in place. Charging is quick. The watch face rotates so that you can read it as a clock #a nightstand mode#, but I've not yet found a way to keep it on, even in ambient mode, on the charger. It just blanks out. Again, it's not bad, because moving the watch or tapping a button brings up the display to check time. I haven't timed it yet, but it looks like a full charge from 50% is less than an hour. PROS: Thoughtful UX - superior to Wear, in my opinion Quality Build Included apps are excellent Many deft touches in the design Does not look geeky Excellent screen CONS: Not quite as quick as Wear for web searches Limited apps for those that want them. #I don't care about this so it's not a con for me, but some do# - no speaker, no way to use it as a phone #not until the 3G version, anyway#.

After seeing other colleagues with various smartwatches, I came to the realization that if I could find a smartwatch to simply handle notifications well, I'd be happy. Well, the Gear S2 does it for me. My various email accounts, texts, visual VM, calendar events, etc. all properly display on watch. I can even read them so I know if I need to grab phone out of my pocket. Just this is a win for me! Plus I keep a handful of pics of my kids on the watch so when I'm asked to see pics of them I can now show on watch and not need to dig in pocket for phone. Its also a decent pedometer and reminder for me to stay active. This is quite secondary for me, but its nice to keep getting nudged to stay active. Battery life has been great, not quite the 2 days Samsung touts, but on most days I have about 40% left by bedtime. No complaints. (I get lots of notifications during day. Probably more than average). I got the S2 Classic and like the look. The band is just OK quality but the watch body itself is high quality. There are a few criticisms but none are deal breakers for me. I'd like to see Google Now integrated and Samsung toss S Voice and instead use Google's voice solution. Honestly, don't expect much from S Voice. I find its often frustrating just trying to ask watch to dial a phone number. So, I no longer bother. For anyone interested in a smartwatch and mostly needing it to provide notifications, the S2 is a winner.

I'll preface this review by stating this wasn't a purchase I made on a whim. I've been thinking about getting a smart watch for months, but after seeing the S2 and the reviews it was receiving before its release, I began to focus on this watch more and more. I purchased the watch the day it was released and though I'm certain there are facets to the watch that I may have not discovered, I feel I can provide some insight to those considering making a purchase. First, I'll tell you I'm a man with smaller wrists. As such, a lot of the watches that I've looked at had proportional issues once placed on the wrist. This watch fits perfectly and looks great. I also wasn't a fan of how thick some of the smart watches look and I feel this watch doesn't look excessively thick on the wrist either. Size-wise, it's perfect. Placing it on the wrist, I will concur with those who have stated the wristband is extremely comfortable. I wear it all day with no issues or discomfort. It feels great. The two buttons are intuitive enough and as many have stated, the rotating bezel is brilliant. The bezel combined with the touch screen allows for quick app finding and feels like an ideal method to use on a watch. I have no doubt others will be copying this format very very soon. Battery is good, but falls short of the 2 day estimate provided by Samsung. I think of the battery rating as the same as estimated gas mileage when a car is purchased. You'll never attain the MPG's they claim, and frankly I don't expect to get the same battery life out of the watch. Having said that, you will easily get a full day to a day and a half of use out of the battery. Since I charge my phone every night, I don't have an issue charging the watch every night. I actually wore the watch last night, wanting to take advantage of the sleep monitor. A note to those who are considering buying this. You'll want to turn off the function that activates the screen when your wrist is turned. It was like a spotlight in the room every time I adjusted my sleep position. It took a couple of minutes (likely because it was the middle of the night and my brain wasn't working) to locate the function to turn that off. It's a function that will be turned off every night, and turned back on in the morning. I'm wondering if they can put it on a timer at some point with an update as that seems like it would be ideal. Apps are for lack of a better word, sparse. There are a number of clock faces that come stock with the watch, and there are quite a few more to shop through. Some are free and some cost a buck or two. Apps are downloaded from the phone and synced to the watch. There are different categories (Health, Finance, Lifestyle, Entertainment, etc). Some of the categories as of this writing had ONE app in the category. ONE. I really don't feel like I need a lot of apps for the watch as what I wanted it for comes stock with the device, but even so, the app store was surprisingly limited. When I synced my phone to the watch, I was told I would need to use the Samsung messaging app on my Note 4 Edge. Bummer. I had tried out that messaging app when I first got my phone and didn't find it all that great. There was nothing inherently wrong with it, it just lacked a lot of the customization that other apps I prefer have. So, I did switch to the Samsung messaging app and it really hasn't bothered me. It does sync my Gmail accounts and I do get my texts and emails on my watch now. I've also used the small T9 keyboard on the watch to reply to messages but it's far from the ideal way to do so. There is a microphone button to dictate a text back and I do prefer that method if I don't pull my phone out of my pocket to use that instead. So I guess it comes down to this...Would I buy it again and is it worth the price I paid for it? My answer to that is a resounding...yes. I hope Samsung continues to develop Tizen. The app store has me underwhelmed, but the watch and its hardware are excellent and have met or exceeded my expectations thus far. It's not perfect, but what really is? For those considering buying this watch, I would say this watch is recommended. I'll provide further updates after I've had a bit more time with the watch.

I'm a big Samsung guy. I love Samsung, I live Samsung, I breathe Samsung. So this review might be a little biased. That said, this watch is amazing. I previously had the Samsung Gear S watch that came before it and I absolutely loved it. The only problem I had was that the interface seemed a bit simplistic and dated. It also didn't look like a real watch. When I went out with that big, black, chunky Gear S on my arm people knew I was a techno-geek. That might've been cool when I was younger, but these days I'm looking for something a lot more sophisticated. The Gear S2 Classic, in that vein, is perfect for me. It possesses the ability to send and receive text messages, download apps, its battery life is good (2-3 days, more if you leave it on Power Saving mode), it has some beautiful and functional watch faces, and comes with a leather strap. Oh, and did I mention it looks like a regular watch? That's right - it looks like a regular watch. It'll fit with all your clothes. The strap can be changed out to any other standard size watch strap (22 mm I believe). It's dust and water resistant so I don't have to worry about washing my hands and frying it. I have the CNN watch face right now because it shows me any news stories with just the flick of my wrist. I love the rotating bezel as well - it makes navigating a breeze. The only downside to this model is that it has no speaker on it and doesn't make any sound. It only vibrates. My previous Gear S was capable of actually answering phone calls; this one can't. There is a Gear S2 Sport model that AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile all carry which DOES have the ability to answer phone calls and make noise. Just make sure you know the difference. Also keep in mind that this does not have a UV sensor that'll tell you to put on sunscreen, nor does it (at the time of writing) have the ability to track your sleep patterns. That was a little bit of a bummer, but I've read online that they're considering adding that feature to the Gear S2. They also need to focus on adding more apps because right now, the app store is mostly watch faces and only a choice few really good apps (such as Uber, Lifesum, CNN, News Republic, Bloomberg Business, and a few others). That said, it doesn't bother me enough to knock off a point. I HIGHLY recommend this watch to people because it's extremely well-made, durable, handsome, good battery life, changeable watch straps, nifty apps, notifications, and overall just a cool, stylish experience that makes me think Samsung is finally upping their game. This little guy can definitely give the Apple Watch a run for its money.

I originally was turned off of the Samsung wearable devices due to the square screens and being very thick. The new Gear S2 is neither of those, and for me perfect. My last smartwatch (Mote 360) died on me so I got this. Works great with my Motorola phone. App selection is a little limited, but all of the watch features work great, and in several ways are better than the Moto. The rotating bezel design is awesome, and very easy to navigate. Heart rate sensor is much more accurate than the moto as well. Where I had to hold still and have the moto tight on my wrist the Gear S2 works all day on it's own to get my measurements, without me doing anything. Wish it synced with more apps such as Strava and Google Fit, but for now I am using the Samsung apps. They are ok, just not as feature rich as other apps.

This is a tough review as it's my 1st smart watch and I wasn't sure what I really expected in one. First off I knew it had to function and look like a standard watch, it does this perfectly. Secondly, for me, I did not want a watch to talk on the phone or take pictures. I'm sorry but I'm not talking into my wrist. Being able to get all my notifications and interact with them quickly has been a nice feature, it's definitely a time saving feature I wasn't expecting. The size of the screen is good and typing on it is not impossible, but not ideal as it is small, as with any watch. The Gear Manager allows you to pre-load quick responses or reply with an emoji. The Galaxy Store is not fully loaded with apps but I think has enough to satisfy. The fact it does not run Android (Google) might be a concern for you to make prior to purchase. I have Google synced on all my devices except this one and I don't see it as being an issue as I can get my calendars and contacts on it. Purchasing the Classic version was the only option for me as I knew I wanted the option to change the watchband and this one uses a standard size and swaps out quickly. I'd suggest deciding what you want in a smart watch before purchasing any of them. Once you do that take a strong look at this one because what it does, it does quite well and looks great.
