I really like the overall look and feel from The Samsung Gear S3 over the Apple Watch . I have had the Apple Watch since its introduction to the market and had recently switched over to the Samsung Note 8 so obviously I needed a new watch to communicate with it and I purchased this Gear S3. Several things are a plus over the Apple Watch series and one important would be the battery life. I had to charge the Apple Watch daily whereas I can go 3 days without having to charge the Gear S3. Your options on watch faces are limitless to your own imagination be it that you can download an app and get to creating your own. The functionality of this watch is by far the best. If you are considering a smart watch this one would come highly recommended.

So far I am very happy. The HRM is about as effective as a Polar chest strap...I think mine struggles sometimes due to me being super hairy, something to consider, I also have a large tattoo on my left arm, where I where is, so between the hair, and the tattoo perhaps if reduces the optosensors accuracy. It does seem to work better once sweaty, but if I simply flip it to the inside it works great. The app is very different from my wifes gear watch, hers has a weight setting, which I had on mine, and it disappeared form the app after it updated. I was a little surprised to find out is is barely water resistant, so we will see what life brings it, I do not change my lifestyle, so it showers with me, gets washed when I wash my hand sand everything else. I will remove it for swimming, but IP68 should not take damage form showering and washing, I will return it as defective if there is water intrusion in the future. I read of many such incidents for people, so we will see how I fare. I like a lot of the faces, works with standard size watch bands, nice classic look. Why they didn;t go the extra distance and seal it I am not sure since it was solidly covered at this price point, and with the charging being wireless, far simpler than EVERY other product in this price point would have been to seal. Overall satisfied, still learning the ins and outs of the app, so I am sure I will love it more and more as I use it more!

I have had the watch for over a month now. I use it with my Samsung S7 Edge and they work great together. I mainly bought it for the S Health and Samsung Pay feathers. The setup of Samsung Pay was difficult at first. I kept receiving error messages when I tried to add a payment card. It was fixed somehow, I don't know how even after much research. I have used Samsung Pay on my S7 Edge with mediocre results (works about 50% of the time). However, on the S3 it works great (about 99% of the time). The apps are limited but I didn't get it for the apps. So far the battery life is good. I usually charge it every two days. I did have problems with battery life after an update but after resetting the watch in when back to normal. Overall I am happy with the watch.

I got this to pair with my Note 8. I like many things. The charging holder is done right. The battery life is adequate, about 3-4 days. Samsung Pay works nice, but the pin code is difficult to enter. Fitness tracking is just OK, it does not count steps or exercise as accurate as my Fitbit did. The heart rate sensor is not very good, it almost never gets my elevated rate and only works if I stop everything, I have to stick with my Bluetooth heartrate monitor to get accurate results,

This watch will do everything but wash your dishes! Not really but it does have a ton of wonderful features! Especially if you own a Samsung phone, the connection between the two is wonderful. S-Health, Messages, Phone, Contacts, Weather, Music and more are all at the flip of your wrist and work great! The design of this watch is beautiful and the rotating bezel gives one a feel of quality when turning it. Out of the box it comes with a hand full of different watch faces, something I really like. You can change your style in seconds and whats more, there are literally hundreds of watch faces that are downloadable for this watch. The simple connection of the bands also makes it very easy to change bands to fit your comfort and style. Samsung really put some forward thinking into this watch! Messages are easy to respond to right on the watch. In addition it will intelligently try to "guess" which pre-defined message to use based on the message received. As for the phone function the internal speaker is crystal clear and makes it very easy to take and make calls. The device is very easy to setup and easy to figure out. If you have never owned a smartwatch before, this is the one to get!

The Samsung Gear S3 is a great smartwatch. It is a classy looking device. The ability to use my credit card in Samsung Pay is incredible. No more needing to carry your wallet with you into stores, or if you are running in to get a cup of coffee. It is incredible to control the watch using the rotating bezel. It is just so easy. The only drawback is the lack of apps for the watch and I can't find any native support for membership cards on the watch's Samsung Pay app.

This is a great watch for tracking fitness and sleep. I've not had many issues it at all. Keep the "always on" mode off for max batter life which gives me close to 3 days depending on use. Some would ask for more functionality, but I don't know what that would be, Samsung Pay is awesome on it, I look like I'm from the future....er...present....putting my watch up to pay for things. The watch faces are beautiful, as a "watch" lover, it's perfect because of the customization of faces and straps. Can wear it with anything and look great, I'll be selling my other watches making this one seem cheaper. If you're on the fence, I say go for it, I was hesitant for a while and finally bought it, and love it.

I bought the Gear S3 Frontier watch about a month ago and so far I am glad that I did. It has great battery life (3 day average) even though I usually charge it every other day to be safe. If you don't wear a watch to bed, then this should not be a problem. The app selection could be better, but there is only so many apps that I'd seriously use, so no big deal. The free watch face selection is great. I wasn't sure about answering phone calls on the watch, but after using it, the call quality is good on both ends. I debated getting the LTE version but the non-LTE version went on sale for $80 less, and after adding the costs of the 2 years at $5 and the rest at $10 a month, I decided it wasn't worth pouring more money into a watch purchase. But, if you're willing to pay for the service, the calling/answering feature does work well. Of course, every time the watch lets me know that it is out of range of the phone, I reconsider. :) The last software update made it even easier to answer or reject calls by twisting the dial. Awesome! The only thing I wish it did is for it to confirm when you've answered a text message. Currently, I press the reply button, touch the prewritten reply, but I'm never sure that it was sent, so I end up sending it 3 times in a row. A simple "SENT" message would be nice. It does take some time getting used to looking at the watch and waiting for the watch face to appear. When it was lagging more than usual, pressing the mode button for a few seconds resets the watch and it was all good again. It resets the watch but you don't lose anything in the process, so I can live with that. The watch face can be left on all the time, but I figured the battery power would be affected too much, even though I haven't tried it. The watch is very customizable so the apps you use most can be just a click away. As for the size of the watch, it is a large watch but it is really no bigger than my Timex USB Smartwatch from the 90's. It takes the same amount of space on my wrist and is the same thickness. The screen is easy to read, even though I have to grab my glasses to see the small print clearly. Overall a great watch.

I upgraded from the Neo Gear. This watch has something for everyone. It was kind of hard to figure out at first but with a little time it was able to figure out the important things.
Water resistant: yes, I shower and do dishes with it on.
Battery Life: depends on how you use it. I turn it off at night because I do not need to track my sleep. I get about three to four days on one charge.
Texting feature: this is nifty you can either use pre typed words, a keyboard or you can write it in with your finger. This text feature is cool because when you reply to a text it changes the automatic replies to fit the reply. I.e if some says is that okay the automatic reply changes to fit the general answer to the question.
Overall it is pricey however I bought it while it was on sale during black Friday and saved $100. If you are looking for a good smart watch this is the one for you. Yes it tracks steps, among many other things as well.

I Love My Watch

Not many people seem to wear watches these days - and it's no wonder since for many it's just as easy to glance at your cell phone as it is to peek at your watch. This is where the Gear S3 excels - it gives you a good reason to wear it on your wrist. This smart watch is feature packed and delivers lots of goodies. You get expected features like a large selection of watch faces, ability for receiving text messages & notifications, ability to answer/place calls, fitness tracker functions (pulse monitoring & step counting). There are some nice surprises also: It is water resistant, has an excellent battery life, and the Samsung pay feature lets you store your favorite credit/debit card information and pay by holding your watch up to almost any credit card reader - this always causing amazement in the checkout line. It even has its own built-in GPS. This watch uses Samsung's unique smartwatch OS called Tizen instead of Android Wear. For me, performance has been rock steady and I've only needed to reset it a couple of times during the entire time I've used it. I have the Bluetooth model that makes calls through the paired smart phone, in my case the Galaxy 7 edge. The quality of the speaker phone is surprisingly good.
SOME OBSERVATIONS: The rotating bezel is the bomb. This greatly facilitates navigating watch menus, adjusting the volume of the speakerphone, etc. The display is crystal clear and visible even in the brightest sunlight. It doesn't have that annoying dead space at the bottom of the display. I was worried about having to push a button to activate the display, but no worries. Simply moving your wrist upwards to check the time is usually enough to turn the display on. At first I configured it to always have the display on but then discovered I really didn't need to. Next, charging the watch means placing it in a dedicated charging cradle. A magnet holds the watch in place, and charging is "wireless" from the cradle to the watch, although the charger itself is plugged in, of course. This process works well, but that means you can only charge it on the cradle (no directly attaching a cable). You can purchase another cradle to keep somewhere else, which is pretty handy. What about apps? Samsung has an increasing number of apps and watch faces you can download from their app store. There are some interesting ones like a simple navigation app that ties to the phone and even a weather radar. Many are free, but some of the watch faces have a nominal $1 or $2 fee. (The one in the picture is my current favorite) I love to switch these in and out. Fitness applications for the S3 may not be as robust as you would get through a dedicated fitness band but impressive enough for me nevertheless. My heart rate data, step count, and activity levels are logged backed to the Samsung SHealth app on my phone. It even records my sleep patterns and gives me a pretty decent summary of how much restful vs fitful sleep I've received.

i am not your typical phone owner, i don't use facebook or twitter but i do like technology, i bought this watch primarily because i needed a heart rate monitor for my treadmill, i could have gone with just a plain monitor band but reading the reviews on this watch i found my self wondering if there is more that i could use it for. so i bought an s3 frontier , it was an open box excellent condition watch but it was about $100 cheaper than full price. i have had the watch a couple of months now and find myself addicted to the step counter , i regularly check to see if i have reached my goal and i am disappointed if i don't, with my phone near me (at work for instance) i can receive calls that i would otherwise miss and make calls if i need to , i get all my text messages as they happen and also e mails , it is very convenient and so far i haven't missed a call since i started wearing it, usually i would fumble around looking for my phone and miss the call by the time i found it , now i can answer the call while still looking for the phone then transfer to the phone when i find it. i wish there were more apps but i feel that in time they will come, recently i have been using my watch to pay for things with Samsung pay , its easy to do but not everywhere takes it , my one regret is that i didn't get the stand alone watch so that i don't need to carry my phone but now that i know how this watch works i might try and trade it in for the stand alone phone version

PROS : I have had this watch now for about a month.
So far it makes life easier.
I use this to pay for items, track my workouts, reply to emails, texts, whats app etc.
When Im away from the phone i use it to make and receive calls.(voice quality is crisp and clear)
There are a vast amount of watch faces( choose one with a black background to maximize battery life)
CONS: The bands are a bit difficult to install compared to the Iwatch.
The heartbeat monitor works on auto mode but seldom works when you want it to.(If you manually check your heart rate you get errors, however it periodically checks your heartrate and works well when it does)
Samsung needs to bring back the infrared feature. I enjoyed controlling my wireless devices with it.
* BATTERY LIFE IS ABOUT 3-4 DAYS DEPENDING ON WHETHER OR NOT I WORK OUT OFTEN.

I've had my GS3 Frontier watch for 3 days, so I am ready to update some of my initial observations. Unlike a review that I read recently, I wasn't expecting the unboxing to be an experience unto itself; needless to say, the Frontier isn't a Rolex. These were the positives that I found:
1) Just as with the Gear S2, setup was a breeze. The Samsung Gear app in my Galaxy Note 5 picked up the S3 immediately and went through setting it up effortlessly. It was nice to see that I can toggle between my S2 and S3 settings by simply selecting the watch model from the dropdown in the top left corner of the app.
2) Even though the watch is fairly big at 46mm -- larger than my 42mm Movado Series 800 -- it didn't look large on my wrist. Maybe I was just prepared for the size, but the features on the watch like the rotating bezel, buttons, and screen are well balanced. Maybe the dark color helps but it didn't look or feel big on my slender wrist. By the way, that rotating bezel is awesome. I bet Apple wishes they had thought different!
3) The watch faces that came with it were pretty nice compared to the funky ones that the S2 had. I felt less of a compulsion to buy replacement ones, although if you pay a few bucks, there are a few good ones out there that are more functional than the stock watch faces.
4) The speaker on the watch rocks! I left it at the default loudness setting of 4 and I can hear calls perfectly. The maximum call volume is 6. I had my lady call me from the phone. She is very soft-spoken and I could hear her perfectly. You don't need to bring the watch close to your mouth to be heard clearly. For all other sounds, which are Ringtone, Media, Notifications and System, I left them set to 7. Maximum volume for those is 15. Again, the speaker is pretty loud for such a small device.
5) Answering or rejecting calls using voice works very well. I travel often to California, where stricter cell phone laws go into effect in January 2017. I'll be glad to have this baby on my wrist so that I can avoid tickets with my Inspector Gadget gear!
6) I haven't had a chance to test the altimeter, but the speedometer and GPS work very well. I tested them with the free Speedometer app and the speed matched that on my car dashboard. I love hiking, so it'll be interesting to see how well the technology works and whether an app ecosystem can grow out of those features.
7) The screen looks really clear and bright. I have brightness set to 6 and the screen is perfectly readable indoors and in direct sunlight.
8) I also tried the Sleep As Android app to test the S3's biometric sensors. Except for a short period when my phone couldn't get data, the app was able to collect sleep-related data the whole night. I don't think that I will track my sleep with the watch every night because of its size, although I bought a replacement strap for it that is very supple and sleeping with it wasn't too uncomfortable.
9) The S3 can let you control your favorite music app on your phone (music is routed through your phone speakers) or you can listen to tracks that are on the watch itself (music is routed through the watch speakers or through attached bluetooth headphones). Check out Spotify. The S3 now has a native Spotify app that frees you from having to interact with your phone. If you setup WiFi access and log into Spotify Premium from your watch, you can stream music directly to it without having your phone with you or powered on. This feature shows how the S3 is increasingly becoming a dependable device in its own right.
Now onto the reasons why I gave it 4 stars:
a) Maybe it's the size of the rotating bezel in this larger watch face, but it feels loose. There is a slight wobble on the S2, but if you tap the rotating bezel on the S3, you can actually hear it sound as if it is loose. Maybe they can make it a bit tighter in the next model.
b) The S Voice assistant is very rudimentary. In the age of Siri, Alexa and even Cortana, Samsung needs to catch up quickly with integrating AI into such an otherwise feature-packed watch! What's the point of cramming in so much processing power if one is left with only a glorified phone dialer? SVoice needs to get smart.
A few things that improved my experience with the S3:
- I got a comfortable watch strap that is perforated for breathability. The watch is pretty large, so I tried to make wearing it as comfortable as possible. A comfortable strap made from stretchy material also helps the watch hug your wrist if you are sleeping with it without being uncomfortable. Biometric sensors on the watch work best if they are closest to your skin.
- Speaking of biometrics, give the Sleep As Android app a try if you are concerned about the quality of sleep. It collects a fair amount of data, but to me the most important one was the "deep sleep" periods.
- Spotify for S3 frees you up from using your phone, but you do have to log onto an available WiFi and also have the Spotify Premium to make your S3 fully independent.
Notice that I didn't complain about the absence of good apps. That's because a great app marketplace doesn't happen overnight. Apple has dominated that space, but the Samsung Gear S3 has plenty of features that can be used creatively. Spotify is an example of native apps that can become big hits. I have even heard that the video chip on it can drive a 720p display! Imagine being able to screencast pictures or even video from a watch some day!! (The S3, by the way, only allows you to synchronize pictures and songs at this time; not video.)
If I find more cool things to do with it, I will come back and provide an update. I hope you found this information useful.

Very Happy So Far

I've been wearing my Gear S3 daily for about 3 weeks now and, thus far, am quite happy. This is my first smartwatch. I only started to consider a smartwatch recently when my Fitbit Charge died. I always thought it looked weird to wear my Fitbit with a conventional wristwatch so the idea of something that could handle fitness tracking AND look like an old school watch when I wanted it to was appealing.
I did a lot of research, though, to be honest, I gravitated toward the Gear S3 from the start. My phone is an S8, so I already live within the Samsung and Android ecosystems.
I find the Gear S3 to be comfortable to wear. I do not find it heavy at all. I am using the stock band that came with it and that, too, is quite comfortable.
Setup was easy. I had it paired with my phone and was up and running within a few minutes of taking it out of the box. That said, I really haven't delved into all of its capabilities. It does pair very nicely with my S8 for all sorts of notifications and for messaging. I have the wi-fi/bluetooth model (no LTE) so a phone is still a necessity.
I find the screen to be incredibly sharp. When researching smartwatches, in general, I had a hard time believing that you could fit enough text on the screen to really make it a viable tool for checking email, texts, etc. However, everything is crystal clear and easy to read.
Battery life has been decent. I get about 72 hours on a full charge, which is right about what I expected based on all of the reviews that I had read.
The rotating bezel combined with the touchscreen make navigation pretty straightforward once you learn how to access various functions.
Its rare for me to say this, but I really don't have any complaints with this watch thus far. Then again, the bulk of what I use it for is fitness tracking and as a good old fashioned watch. Some have complained about a lack of available apps and, to be fair, I have not spent a lot of time browsing the app selection. Then again, I'm not really trying to move too many functions from my phone to my watch so this really isn't an issue for me.
Thus, after three weeks of use, I say 'so far, so good'. I hope it stays that way.

I have used a Samsung Gear Fit 2 for over a year and was very happy with it, but the band broke a second time (out of warranty this time), so it was time to move on. The first great thing about the S3 is that it can use a standard watch band - so if this one breaks it can be replaced - I like options.
The next neat thing is that there are so many more apps that can be run on the S3. The neatest one is Samsung Pay, which works right from the watch itself. Plus the myriad options for watch faces, seamless integration with the Galaxy S7, and ability to play music to Bluetooth headphones independent from the phone. I"m sure I'm missing some of the features (sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring), overall this is a great piece of tech. Plus it tells time!
