Very good all in one computer...

For less than you pay for the typical all in one basic computer, this is a nice and lightweight system. The extra RAM helps with windows 8 64 bit and the matte screen is great if you want to use it outdoors. At only 4lbs, its nice to have the built in optical drive. This is a slim and in my opinion, travel friendly size while still being a good everyday computer. I considered a smaller 11 or 13 inch for travelling, but after seeing this system, it was a better fit for all around use. As a refurb, it didn't come with the Samsung software - but this is easily downloaded on their support page. Also, it does not have a hybrid drive as the Samsung site states.

The product was purchased refurbished and it came as good as knew. So, first, geek squad, is highly recommended.
Then, the product while slim and light, is not as comfortable as I thought. It still very portable, but would suggest a nice protector on your bagpack.
For the money spent, having an i7 with 8GB is a great deal, so highly recommended.
The only bad thing, as with many laptops, it has the mouse pad in a way that you can touch it when writing and such... which can be bothersome.

The computer does not come with the recovery partition installed... according to geek squad it is impossible for them to install this on refurb computers. which means any refurb windows 8 computer will not have the option to recover windows from corruption that may be caused by hardware failures and viruses. Buy New!!

Came with two very deep scratches in its bottom. The wifi adapter, intel 6235 does not stay connected for more than 10 minutes without issues. i spent 30 minutes with a Samsung tech who said it was fixed but it still has issues. I thought I had 30 days to return it, turns out I only had 15. I regret this purchase.

Since I have trashed windows 8 that came on laptop and installed Windows 7, I think it's a good computer. The windows 8 installation was minimal and there is no restore or backup solutions provided. Going through Samsung I managed to find windows 7 drivers for the laptop. Installed my own Windows 7 and drivers - if I had not been able to do this - I would have returned the laptop. I'm normally thrilled with the Geek Squad - but this was just not up to standard.
But if you don't mind finding drivers and installing another operating system - it's a pretty good computer. Battery life is excellent - I've used it for over three hours on one charge. I also had to find a program called touchpad freeze to solve a problem with the cursor bouncing around while I was typing. I'm finding that this is a common problem with some laptops.

Was never able to get the laptop booted.
Tech support could not help.
We could not get another shipped.
Local Best Buy did not seem to want to solve our issues. We ended up at a competitor.
With all that said, Best Buy has been good to me over the years so we will continue to shop, but I am disappointed in their seemingly lack of desire to help a long term customer.

Terrible and out right defective laptop. Samsung has abandoned this model as it has defective Intel wifi chip that makes wireless Internet nearly impossible to maintain and my unit came with a defective screen. Returned and will not buy a series 5 Samsung laptop unless and until they fix ALL the issues. A real shame as the form factor was pretty good.

I ordered the laptop online, Laptop received with broken key, so I went to best but shop but they are unable to take for repair as their system is not allowing to take refurbish product for service, I returned it online and they sent exchange one with sticker "Quality refurbished from Geek squad", but this time laptop LCD was flickering and i have to return it, and now they said they will not send again and they have policy to not exchange more than 1 time. I am very disappointed with the service and work.

I have been a die hard IBM guy for a long time spending on average $2,500 for a business class laptop. I decided to try a consumer laptop for a change as my need for a workstation replacement laptop isn't as important anymore. I purchased one of these Samsung laptops a year ago for around $500 and initially had a problem with the wireless connectivity but I figured out that it was a driver issue. Saw that this showed up in reviews as a common issue so I figured that a bunch of them must have been returned to be refurbished. I have ordered 5 this year for my staff and haven't had any issues. I replaced the hard drive with an SSD drive for two of my developers and they are performing as well other laptops that are 4X more expensive even after the SSD upgrades. Great value.

the pc came and it was locked by the previous owner which led me to believe that the geek squad did not do as they advertise and clean the pc prior to shipping. What a disappointment.

Several hours after having originally written this review- and leaving Best Buy - I am attempting to get it completed and submitted again. It will be long - but hopefully - it will give prospective buyers some insight, as well as address some points raised in previous reviews. Maybe you will want to skip to my list of points and Pros and Cons section.
Earlier this month, after a not-so-good experience with the Apple Store in Syracuse, NY I ended up a returning a Macbook Pro. Not a fan of the MB's OS - I did greatly appreciate its build quality and features such as gorgeous screen- backlit keyboard - optical drive -and multi-touch that were hard to find in a Windows Machine without paying Mackbook prices, which I did not want to do. I bought and returned 2 Windows machines before buying a Sammsung 13" series 5 laptop from Amazon.
The Samsung Series 5 NP535U3C had mixed reviews and lacked many of the features that I wanted, but for $400, it was a steal that I did not want to pass up. I got it and loved most things about it- The screen however was a big drawback - looking washed out. It choked while playing Netflix videos - and at the end of the day - I missed the backlit keyboard and an optical drive. However, since even when I had the MacBook - I figured I would get something a bit more portable - I thought I could manage with this so long as I got another computer that would serve as my main laptop.
A week later this 14" was on sale for $349 - refurbished. I have a lot of refurbished electronics and have never had a problem with any of them, and I also have a lot of Samsung products and find all but my blu ray player to be outstanding. Yes, once again, this lappy was not going to have all that I wanted - but for the price - it certainly had a LOT! I ordered it - and it was delivered just a few hours before I was due to go out of town. Two days into my trip - I got a blue error screen and could not do a thing with the computer - until I got home and reinstalled the only recovery OS I had - Win 7. This did not come with a recovery disc.
After I did that - I called Samsung - and was informed that there was a recovery partition on the computer - After several minutes of trying to activate it to no avail, the CSR told me to download the Win 7 drivers from any other Win 7 14" or 15" computer off Samsung's website. I did, and the computer has run fine since Monday night. I got this computer thinking that I would keep it instead of the 13" computer - but currently - I am torn - I like a lot and dislike some things about both machines. Combined - I paid less for the two than I paid for the MacBook.
Ok to this computer and to address some of the issues people have written of here.
1. I have not had ANY of the connectivity problems some have mentioned - The Mackbook - dropped connection regularly.
2. Nope - This does NOT come with a restore partition - On Monday - the CSR andI thought mine was missing because I installed Win 7 on it. Then I read the reviews here this morning only to find a lot of people saying they did not have a recovery partition . After writing the first review - I called Samsung's 800 number - and the person there could not definitively answer if one was supposed to come with the computer - I spoke with at least 4 people at Best Buy who could not either - although most people said they believe a recovery partition DOES NOT come with refurbished laptops. Samsung gave me another number to call to find out - Umm - The voice mail prompt sounded like I was dealing with some back alley operation - Sorry - I did not trust it and did not leave a message.
3. Just in case you did not know - and I found out today - Although there is a warranty on refurbished comps - You CANNOT take them into a BB store to Geek Squad - You are to use whatever company/service provider listed on BB's website.
4. YES - you can put Windows 7 on it - and it will work fine. I am using it as such right now. Make sure to download Samsung's SW updater - and Easy Settings programs - Get them from another 14" or 15" Win 7 laptop on Samsung's site.
5. Battery - For those who keep saying that they cannot get a 100% charge out of the battery - check your battery life extender option - If it is on - it only lets the battery charge to 80%. You can find this under the Easy Settings - BTW there are other settings for the battery under control panel - the Recommended settings which does not show up in Samsung's Easy settings
6. Just in case you did not know - Win 8 does NOT come with any DVD playback software - It took two days for me to find this out. I thought there was something wrong with my machine when my DVDs would not play - They play fine now that I am on Win 7.
7. I only used the comp for a few hours with Win 8 - but it seemed to run a bit faster - and the touchpad worked better with Win 8. I do not know. I might try it out tonight - I can get a update of it for free - If you are a student or work at a college - please look into this option for yourself.
Pros - Fast - Light - plain, but attractive - good sound - good video (speakers on top of the comp unlike the 13" inch, which has them UNDER the laptop) - lots of ram - optical drive - matte screen (if you like them) - $349 on sale - very silent - Samsung SW update - quick Easy Settings function - full keyboard - large HDD - Fn lock key so you can go directly into a Fn option - long battery life - about 5 hours.
Cons - The mousepad is loud and clicky! - matte screen (is taking me some time to get used to coming from a Macbook. I am learning to appreciate it, but I have to always tilt to find the sweet spot.) - The cursor will fly all over the darn place (The reason I am doing this review AGAIN - I lost it the first time) - no backlit keyboard - This non-sense I found out today about not being able to get it serviced at a local BB. - There is a LOT of flex of the screen when typing - It is not so bad on a flat and stable surface, but it is a bit dramatic - It runs fairly cool compared to the 13" inch laptop and the Macbook- Two-finger scrolling and zooming is hit or miss -
Look, at the end of the day, some of the complaints people have written concern their having an uninformed or unrealistic expectation of the computer. Some are a matter of settings - As with a lot of electronics -even out of the box one might have to go to forums or call CS to find out how to optimize a product, esp. a refurbished product. I learned that I needed to change some touchpad and mouse settings to address the issue that I had just a few hours ago - and so far so good!
Admittedly, it looks like I lucked out - my unit came in like new condition - and other than the blue System Service error - I have not had problems. BTW - someone at Geek Squad told me that error is common in Windows 8. Really ? Wow! I mean, I could not be on it for more than 2 minutes before it popped up. He did say that it might have happened because of a software conflict between two AntiVirus software.
So, for what it is supposed to do - I would have to say that mine works well and looks new - It makes me think that I should actually keep it for those reasons and the fact that I got it for under $400. I know this was long - but I hope it helps some people.
