Customers are saying

Customers commend the Harmon Kardon Soundbar System for its exceptional sound quality, easy setup, and the inclusion of Dolby Atmos technology. The wireless rear speakers and subwoofer are also highly praised for their convenience. However, some users have expressed concerns about the system's high price, occasional connectivity issues, the limited audibility of the rear speakers, and the automatic power-off feature that turns the system off after only five minutes of inactivity.

This system is the worst ever, sub constantly makes scrubbing noises!!! I switched the system out 3 times for a different one, each time the sub still makes scrubbing sounds right away even after geek squad came and installed it the last time!!! I took this expensive junk back and went with the sonos 5.1 system for $400 less and it sounds even better than this Samsung system and it works perfectly fine with no scrubbing sounds!!! Stay away from this system, read the reviews!!!

Pros +The 17 speakers inside the soundbar, subwoofer and 2 surrounds, immerse you in sound, up down and all around. +Deep basses and high treble, for a crisp sound from either tv or my android phone +It looks and feels like a high end system +Out the box, to complete set up is fairly easy. +Features DOLBY ATMOS Cons -The LED readout is on top of the soundbar instead of on the front. You have to stand over it to see what operation you're in. -The price. -The soundbar weighs almost as much as my TV (but hey, it's holding a lot of speakers) OK, where to start! First my UPS guy gave me the side eye as he rolled the box in on his cart...LOL After opening the box I see a ton of Styrofoam packaging, everything seemed intact, even with the deep dent on the top corner of the box. The first piece I came to was the soundbar, it's a behemoth folks in both length, height and weight. It's longer than my 55" Vizio (and if interested I will have tips below on how I had to set that up). If you plan on mounting the sub on a wall I would strongly suggest studs instead of anchors. Under the soundbar were two well wrapped and tightly strapped Styrofoam nests. The first was the subwoofer and then the two rear speakers banded together. Also, in the box are the remote, with batteries, a user manual, power cords for all speaker, an HDMI cable, screws, two brackets and a strip to use as a guide if you choose to wall mount. So after putting the speakers roughly where I wanted them, I followed the instructions. Plugged all the speakers in, they all linked wirelessly with no problem. I connected the supplied HDMI to the ARC on the back of my TV as well as to the sub. The top left corner of the sub has a bright white readout that scrolls with information as you press the remote buttons, which, by the way are only a few. It is kind of sparse but once you get the hang of them you're actually able to do quite a bit. When I had the TV and sound system turned on I saw mouths moving but heard no sound...dang I knew it was to quick to be true. I wanted to make sure all was working so I unplugged the HDMI and plugged in the optical and it worked. But I wanted it to come from my HDMI ARC. So after doing more trouble shooting and some Google searching, I finally got it. The sound was pretty great but I have to say my TV doesn't have ATMOS sound, I'm waiting for black Friday. I feel certain that having my final piece in place the sound will be exceptional. This is the tip I have for non Samsung tv's My Vizio set up Go to; settings>CECsettings> enable the CEC function, and turn on system audio control Then; go to audio and turn on your surround sound. Hope that helps

    Fantastic Soundbar in every respect

We purchased this flagship Samsung soundbar along with a 75" Samsung TV. I've had a number of previous soundbars, including a recent LG SK9Y. Simply put, this soundbar excels in every respect compared to every other unit I've owned. First, build quality is outstanding. All metal construction, with large enclosures for both the subwoofer and rear speakers. Connections are all wireless, and our setup went flawlessly, lliterally plug-n-play. Rear speakers on this soundbar including 2 separate drivers: rear surround, and rear-top speakers. Integration with our Samsung TV went perfectly as well. The soundbar talks to the Samsung via HDMI-ARC. It's smart enough to switch between ARC channels (when using the TV native apps) and HDMI inputs on the soundbar (when using DirecTV mini-Genie or our 4K Apple TV), all automatically. I didn't have to teach the family a bunch of tricky remote operations, they just select the source and go, the soundbar switching perfectly. The HDMI pass-through works great for 4K/HDR10. Volume control was perfect, and the volume changes quickly. The volume level is shown on the TV, and reflected on the soundbar display. The soundbar display is big and easily read across the room, and TURNS OFF after a few seconds, thank you! (The LG soundbar drove us nuts, the display sitting there saying "optical" or "arc" constantly and never turning off). Sound from this unit is absolutely fantastic, the best of any soundbar I've ever heard. 3D imaging was very apparent with titles such as Netflix 4K-streaming "Lost in Space". You could close your eyes, and just point to various sound sources in full 3D glory from our viewing position. Level adjustments are easy enough with the included remote, and include the ability to set all the Atmos levels including front, center, side, rear, sub, and front-top and rear-top levels. Bass was crisp and clear. There's a full 10-band equalizer available in the "advanced" settings within the app, if you so desire. The "auto" mode for surround processing has worked fantastic. For normal TV/News, the sound field is front and center, coming from the TV itself. Switch to a 5.1 source, and the sound field expands and fills the room. We've not yet tried Dolby Atmos (I think, see below), as I'm waiting for the 4K Apple TV to support this. Honestly, "Lost in Space" via the native Netflix app on our 2018 Samsung 75" TV sounds like its streaming Atmos, but the info in the app says its only 5.1 . It sure sounds way better than other 5.1 material I've heard, so perhaps Atmos is working with the Samsung native apps after all. I'll know for sure once Apple TV opens up Atmos in TVoS 12. Regardless, the 3D sound fields we have experienced with this are just wonderful. Not overpowering, but very movie-like. We've been startled more than once with side- or rear-effects in various movies and streams. All-in-all, I'm just thrilled with this soundbar. Full 3D sound fields and great sound, wonderful construction, seemless integration with our Samsung TV, it all just works. My only (minor) suggestion would be a better iphone app to allow finer control of various elements of the settings (like level control, which a present can only be set via the remote). Also, mic-based setup would be nice at this price point for auto-levels and auto-equalization. None-the-less, our results out of the box are stellar. Highly recommended.

Great sound bar. Sound is crisp and clear. Rear speakers make all the difference for surround sound. Bass will rock your floor if you aren't careful. Gives a full 3K sound especially with the up firing Dolby Atmos support. This system gets excellent reviews on all audio sites. Only downside is it only have 2 HDMI inputs but that's the case with most sound bars. I love it and I am coming from a 7.1 sound system.

Good for Movies, Very Bad for Music

I won't bore you by repeating all the same features and commentary about this system, easily found in the many other reviews here. I read most of them before I purchased the Samsung HW-N950 as the main surround sound system in my living room, and they enticed and convinced me it was the right choice. I spent at least 30 minutes in the Magnolia showroom watching Avengers Infinity War being played through this soundbar. Truly, you forget that you are listening to all this room-filling sound coming from such a compact and easy to use system. So I bought it, took it home with my new 75" Sony, plugged it in and watched Game of Thrones in Atmos 4K. The Atmos was very good if not excellent in filling my large living room with sound. The voices were clear at any volume and the background sounds played in perfectly. I was very happy with the performance as a movie / tv system. The sub was barely sufficient and not very precise. There was plenty of boom, but it seemed to be everywhere as a deep hum, with decent thumps as the scenes played, but a bit distracting and overwhelming at times. The sub is OK, but not great. Again, it's a compact system, easy to set up so I was a bit forgiving of the few drawbacks I found. Then I decided to play some music. Awful. Really, really bad. Surprisingly bad. I tried my best to fix it by using the EQ in the Samsung App, and while that app and the EQ worked well, there was no way to fix a sound that was just unpleasant to hear. I tried Spotify via Bluetooth and YouTube music via the TV. It was flat, unbalanced, and would fall apart at the most intense parts of songs. Considering this is a Harmon Kardon product, this was not made or tuned in any way for listening to music. CONCLUSION: If you're considering this product you're obviously looking for amazing sound, especially at this price point. Don't kid yourself, you won't get it with a soundbar. This is arguably the best one on the market and it simply cannot deliver what a discreet 5.1 or 7.1 system can. I wish it could, but it can't. I've surrendered and plan to run wires. I've owned this system for 3 hours and have already decided to write this review and take it back to Best Buy. PROS: Excellent Atmos Sound, easy to set up, good controls, defined clean sound for movies and tv CONS: Terrible sound for music, especially at $1,700.

I picked one of these a few days ago and the sound is great when playing Atmos content. But as mentioned on other reviews, when you’re not playing an Atmos content, don’t expect any sound from the rear speakers. I think this needs to be fixed. Second issue: the system turns of after ONLY 5 MINUTES of inactivity. 5 MINUTES!!!! I just can’t believe engineers at Samsung thought that this is not going upset EVERYONE. How about a firmware update and change that to one hour?

Originally I bought the 850 because I didn't think I needed the rear speakers. I ultimately ended up returning the 850 because my store had an "excellent condition" open box 950. The store was great and even gave me a better price. I will say don't expect this system to give incredible sound while watching regular cable, but where this shines is watching movies through streaming of Netflix or Blu-ray. I only had the volume up to 11 and the subwoofer was on 0 watching Transformers that was Dolby Atmos compatible, my house was shaking from all of the moving sounds. Atmos works incredibly well with the rear speakers paired with the four total upward blasting speakers. This system is a bit much for my small town house, but I got it to future proof my setup for when I get my own house. I have my Xbox one s connected straight to the soundbar and the soundbar is connected to my tv through the HDMI ARC. I have the 65" Samsung QLED Q6 and the system and tv recognized and connected instantly through the setup. What I really love about this system is it has a more natural bass tone to it. Trust me, it definitely kicks and you will feel the action from the movies. Unlike cheaper systems I've had, it doesn't have that simulated forces bass sound that can get distorted. It's very well balanced and it's bass you can truly feel. Overall I'm incredibly happy that I decided to go to the 950.

I had a Bose Cinemate 130 that died after a thunderstorm. I first purchased a $1,500 SONY sound bar recommended by the agent, but it sounded tinny and hollow and was not as good as the old Bose System. I swapped it out for this Samsung System and was immediately impressed. Sounded better than the Bose and the Sony. So far, so good. Better than BOSE Cinemate 130 and way better than Sony's top priced sound bar.

Build quality is top notch. Sound was great when the whole system worked. Unfortunately like many others the system was plagued with the sub and surrounds frequently disconnecting. There’s no permanent fix for the problem. The only way to resolve this issue was to do a full power cycle of the system. But this only resolves the issue temporarily. For a premium device and premium price this should never be an issue. I really wanted to like this system but the problems are just too much for me. Two stars for sound and build quality.

      Audiojunkie:

Thank you for your review of this Samsung HW-N950 Soundbar with Dolby Atmos. I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing subwoofer disconnection issues.

Please check whether the power cables for the Soundbar and subwoofer are connected and soundbar is turned on. The following steps will help perform the manual connection procedure:
      1. Press and hold ID SET on the rear of the subwoofer for at least 5 seconds.
      a. The red indicator on the rear of the subwoofer turns off and the blue indicator blinks
      2. Press and hold the Up button on the remote control for at least 5 seconds
      a. The ID SET message appears on the display of the Soundbar for a moment, and then it disappears
      b. The Soundbar will automatically power on when the ID SET is complete
      3. Check if the LINK LED is solid blue (connection complete)

The LINK LED indication stops blinking and glows a solid blue when a connection is established between the Soundbar and the Wireless Subwoofer

Rear speakers do not work on xboxonex dolby atmos

This bar is a nice upgrade from the hw-k950 that samsung left out in the cold, with no new firmware to fix a high pitched hiss from the rear speakers. I am so happy that my rear speakers on the hw-n950 do not hiss unfortunately I spent alot of money on the k950 and alot more on the n950. Now lets move to the n950. This unit out of the box will not decode dolby atmos on the xbox one x, nor has there been a firmware uodate to fix this. The rear speakers do not work when the atmos is turned on the xbox. And of course once again samsung customer support is useless. First of all they have no knowledge of how the k950 or the n950 even work. I even had one person from the support team tell me that I setup the system wrong and I was suppoosed to run everything from my tv to the soundbar (hahaha what a joke). They cant even tell you if they are working on the issue or not. I have left a similar review on the samsung app and have still have heard nothing. Dont get me wrong this is a very awesome sounding unit, but theae issues need to be fixed with the xbox one x, but since their customer service is so bad and useless, I would say avoid this. If it keeps going this way. I will not be purchasing another samsung product again (My with and I only use samsung products). PLEASE TAKE THE HINT SAMSUNG

      Derek:

I am very sorry for the issues you have encountered with connecting the Samsung HW-N950 to your Xbox One X.

To get Dolby Atmos on your Soundbar please follow these steps:

Connect the HDMI output on the Xbox One X to the HDMI1 or HDMI2 input on the HW-N950 with a high-speed HDMI cable. Then connect the HDMI output from the Soundbar to the TV’s HDMI ARC input. Press the Source button on the Soundbar to select the corresponding HDMI1 or HDMI2 input.

There are two setting adjustments on the Xbox One X that need to be made in order to get Dolby Atmos to the Soundbar:
      1. Settings > Display & sound > Audio output > Speaker audio > HDMI Audio > Bitstream out
      2. Settings > Display & sound > Audio output > Speaker audio > Bitstream format > Dolby Atmos for home theater (HDMI only)

Finally, insert a movie or game disc that has a Dolby Atmos encoded soundtrack and play. Once the soundtrack starts, the words “DOLBY ATMOS” will scroll once on the Soundbar’s display once.

I hope these tips help to solve your issue.

As for your HW-K950, please contact Samsung Customer Support and a representative will assist you with troubleshooting the hissing noise you are experiencing.

I went through 3 sound bars before this one. I was actually going to start building a home theater set up if this one didnt work out. But it does work and work wonderfully. Thank god because I do not have the room for huge speakers. With an atmos source, you can actually hear stuff overhead. Even without atmos, this is an awesome set up. It matches my 65 Oled B7 perfectly. If you want theater sound but do not have the space for a HT set up...this is for you.

Excellent product! Easy to install, dynamic/immersive sound, intuitive programming features & fills the room with sound. Wall mounting challenging, worked well with metal mounting bar attached to wall studs. Superior to Bose sound-bar, which is unnecessarily annoying to program & the sound is average.

I would recommend this to a friend
