Customers are saying

Customers appreciate the POWERbot R9250's cleaning performance, suction power, and ability to handle pet hair, with many noting its quiet operation and ease of use. However, some users experienced issues with navigation, battery life, and the vacuum's height, which limited its access under furniture. The mapping feature also received mixed reviews, with some finding it problematic. Overall, the vacuum's strengths in cleaning and convenience are balanced by shortcomings in navigation and certain design aspects.

One BotVac to Rule Them All!

At this point I’ve had the opportunity to try Roomba, Neato, and POWERbot, so I thought I'd share my experiences with them. Of course, YMMV. For all of them you can program to clean at a specific time each day, or vacuum on demand. So they all have that going for them. Roomba 860: A neighbor let me borrow his new Roomba to test it out, which is what started all this. It is okay, but not great. The method it employs can be best described as that of a really good housekeeper who did a few shots before starting up the vacuum. :) It got the job done but the route was more entertaining than efficient. I didn’t get to try it out over multiple uses so I don’t know if it would lose suction if not emptied daily, but from the way it’s built I’m guessing probably. The bin was easy to empty though I can see large furballs and dustbunnies getting stuck in there pretty easily. The noise level isn't bad, but it would be irritating if you were trying to listen to a phone call or the television. Neato D80: This was better than the Roomba for cleaning. It maps out a room, vacuums all around the edges and furniture (though still bumps everything), then goes in rows until complete and onto the next room. As long as the door is open it will go in there. It managed the whole ground floor of my home on one charge, no problem. The one issue was that if you don’t empty the bin after each and every use, the next time the suction suffers. The bin is easy enough to empty though so not a major deal. It was louder than the Roomba, and because my entire ground floor is hard flooring, a combination of bamboo, tile and stone, it made this really weird noise like squeaky sneakers as it cleaned. I didn't try it on the carpeting upstairs given how much the suction suffered after one use downstairs so I can't say how it is on carpet. POWERbot R9250: This is the one I ended up getting after returning the Neato, and I’m very happy with it. It is more expensive but is solidly built like a regular vacuum cleaner. The Roomba and Neato felt like toys in comparison, like if you kick it or trip over it you might break it, the POWERbot however might break your toe. Or at least make you spew some creative expletives. This one is really meticulous in the way it cleans! It goes in rows and goes right up to the walls and furniture but doesn’t smack into them as heavily the others did, but will occasionally bump something lightly. I don’t have much use for the wi-fi right now, but may later. On regular clean mode it is still quieter than the Neato (this was a huge deal for me since I work from home and need to be able to hear meetings) and in regular mode it's probably on par with the noise level of the Roomba even though it’s supposed to be way more powerful. There is also a power mode, which is marginally louder, and a quiet mode which could vacuum around you while you’re on a call or watching TV and not make too much of a noise problem (and that's on hard bamboo flooring, it would be even quieter on carpet). With my home I’ll probably never need it to since each level doesn’t have a ton of floor space, but if it runs out of battery before it is done it will go back to the charger to recharge then pick up where it left off. It has the largest dustbin of all of them, and because it’s built more like an upright supposedly won’t lose suction if you don’t empty it after each use. It also comes with a remote you can use to guide the vacuum to where you want it to clean, then point at the spot you need it to work on. The one drawback on it that I noticed is that if you run it on max clean (which makes it vacuum over and over until the battery runs out) it seems to have difficulty finding its charger if it is in another room. It kept trying to go directly to the charger only to realize there's a wall there and then tries from another angle. I'm sure it would have eventually found the charger, but I took pity on it and carried it home. The next day I tried it out upstairs, where it easily went under the beds and tackled dust bunnies that likely predate at least one of my pets. No problem whatsoever. I then recharged it and set it to clean downstairs, to see if it loses suction with the bin not being empty (it was over half full). It still picked up all the stuff on the floor, with no problem. Once it was done I emptied the bin and it was pretty packed, so this is not one you will have to empty before running it. Overall they were all good and they got the job done. But the POWERbot is the one I will keep and the one I’d have no qualms about recommending. It is a little taller and wider than the others so may not fit under some furniture in all homes. In my house that's not a problem as most furniture is 6" or more clearance, so ample room for the POWERbot so it gets under beds, sofas, and most tables. It is too wide to go under the dining room chairs or breakfast bar stools, but those are easy to move if I want a more thorough cleaning in that area.

Bought this vacuum on black friday and love it. It actually cleans better then my dyson on hardwood floors. It does have a hard time finding home in the location i have to store it. I don't have the min clearance the manually states so this is my issue. Only complaint is it has a hard time going over throw rungs but it does a great job of going around them when it tells it can't go over them. I'm going to buy another one for the lower level of my home when i can afford it.

This is a wonderful vacuum cleaner. I have a Golden Retriever and lots of Golden Fluff to go along with it. It works great for my floors and has a larger container to hold all that Golden Fluff.

For Christmas my husband purchased this Samsung and a Neato so we could decide which we like better. The Samsung was better in just about every way. Great suction, thorough cleaning, makes it back to the charging base every time. Polite - doesn't aggressively bump into your furniture or try to climb it. Two little things that could be improved on it would be fitting under furniture that sits a little higher up (i.e. couches, beds, etc) and its ability to go over slightly thicker area rugs. It eventually makes it onto the area rugs, it just has to find the right angle. I am very happy with this little guy and I'm amazed at the difference it has made with my floors. With two cats, two kids, and one dog, this was a much needed addition to our house!

This is my first review. Rather than echo what everyone else has already said, I thought I’d talk about some items not previously mentioned such as charging station location. My wife was initially dead set against this thing and didn’t want it to be visible anywhere in the house. So unbeknownst to her I purchased the 9250 model one day and placed the vacuum and charging station under our couch for 2 days and she never noticed it. Once I brought it out she remained quite skeptical until she came home several days in a row and found the clean floors with vacuum marks on the carpet. Now I’m one smart guy!! Despite some folks complaints I’ve found this model does pretty well NOT getting stuck in places. For the most part it returns to dock unassisted. On the few occasions it hasn’t found its way home (for being so smart it can look pretty dumb at other times when looking in all the wrong places for its home dock) it’s simple to pick up and place in front of our couch. Then - even though it had a “dead” battery - it still has enough juice to go under the couch and find its way back to the charging dock without me moving the couch to assist it. Very cool!! We’ve got a golden retriever and this vacuum does wonders cleaning it up and not letting the hair foul up the rotor. It took me about a week to finally connect this to the internet so perseverance pays off (but I had to deduct a star for that)! I also prefer to run this vacuum every other day so I wish the app would allow that option in the future. Right now it’s either run it once or schedule for every day.

I initially bought a Neato which was good but would bump in to the baseboards so hard that it would chip the paint. The small dust bin was also annoying as well. I have two dogs and one sheds like crazy. After reading a few more reviews, I found that a lot of people were frustrated with the Neato and exchanging it for the Smartbot. The difference between the two is remarkable! First off, the dust bin is HUGE in comparison and so much easier to remove and clean. Another difference it the Smartbot will stop when it gets close to the wall, then ease it's way to the wall. It also cleans in a more distinct pattern and slightly overlaps each pass so there are no gaps. The remote is awesome to use instead of fumbling with the phone or trying to push buttons as it cleans. I love the point and clean feature too! Overall, I'm very happy with the Smartbot's performance, features, and time it has saved me.

I am very satisfied with my POWERbot vacuum. I would not think twice about purchasing this robot vacuum again. I went into the store with intentions of buying a different brand, but the sales associate showed me all the different robot vacuums and told me all the features on each. I decided against my original choice and could not be happier with my Samsung Powerbot!! I would say my house is pretty clean, but this vacuum still picked up dirt and dust that I had missed. I love how it cleans under my bed.....no more dust bunnies! I like that the parts are washable (filter, collection bin, combo brush) because this saves on purchasing supplies. Purchase the vacuum and you will not regret it!

This is tough. I like the robot vac design and the suction power. It seems to be well built. However, all of that is deceiving. Now that I am passed the return period, the robot spins in circles and doesn't clean the rooms anymore. At this price point the robot should not break so soon. Unfortunately, the only authorized repair facility is located in New Jersey. Samsung asked me to bear the cost of shipping ($80). I would not buy this robot again but for the folks that do, I highly recommend purchasing the Best Buy extended warranty program. At least that way you would be protected for when it breaks.

Did a decent job of cleaning. Noise level was good. I could watch a show no problem. But that’s about it. Never could get WiFi to connect. Constantly got lost and stuck. Lasted about a month before it started making loud noises. Cleaned the roller and filter once a week. Emptied it’s bin every other day. So I wouldn’t recommend it. I would however recommend the extended insurance. That was a life saver.

    HORRIBLE VACUUM,EVEN WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this Vacuum in July. The first week in august it started stopping dead in its tracks, turning off, and then starting again but the suction motor would be shut off. To get it working again you needed to power it down and then power it on again, otherwise it was just a high priced toy car rolling around. You certainly could not leave it alone. The dust sensor would also malfunction and it would go in and out of dust mode in a never ending cycle until you powered it down. I called customer service. They had me ship it to a service center. The service center replaced the motor. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that it would be ok even though I found it very unnerving that a brand new vacuums VACUUMING motor needed to be replaced after less than a month of MINIMAL use. As soon as I got it backI tried it out. It was doing the same thing. Called Samsung. Asked for it to be replaced. I was told it needed 2 servicing to qualify for replacement. I sent it in for repair. AGAIN. TO THE SAME SHOP THAT COULDNT FIX IT BEFORE. HMMMMM. HOOP NUMBER 2. (There are many MANY more). This time the shop received it....but days and days and days a week went by before I heard anything. I had to track it down myself. After hours on the phone I was told I needed to contact Samsung. Samsung told me the shop found nothing wrong with the vacuum in its diagnostic testing and was sending it back to me. I was furious. Frustrated. But left helpless by this repair shop. I offered video evidence of what it was doing. No-one on the samsung end or the repair shop would listen to me. THEY WERE SENDING IT BACK TO ME VIA UPS WITH A TRACKING NUMBER. For days then a whole week the tracking number stated that UPS was waiting to receive the package. It just sat there. I looked of the repair shop online and read HUNDREDS of other consumer complaints sharing the same story. Tales of lost vacuums. I panicked. I made the decision to take an UBER on my dime an hour away to rescue my vacuum. I arrived at the repair complex where I was met with signs stating ABSOLUTELY NO PHOTOS OR RECORDING DEVICES AT ALL!! I thought it was so shady. After waiting an hour a man told me my vacuum was in the care of UPS. I told him that was false. When I threatened to call the police and report them for stealing my vacuum he finally went in the back and after another 30 min surfaced WITH MY VACUUM!!!! He said it had been put on the wrong shelf. Seems that happens there a lot. SUCCESS!! I got my broken vacuum back. Of course I got it home and it was doing the same thing! I called customer service back. They said that because the shop said nothing was wrong with it that that repair DIDN'T COUNT!!! AND THEY MADE OUT A TCKET TO SEND IT...............TO THE SAME REPAIR SHOP!!!!!! I was like are you kidding me???!!! this makes no sense. AFTER hours (I kid you not) HOURS on the phone and on hold, I was routed to a lead supervisor in the home appliance dept. he was great. It seemed someone actually cared. He asked for videos and photos of the vacuum malfunctioning. HOOP #3 I sent him an abundance of material. He thanked me and said he would get it to the ENR dept. and get back to me in 24 hours. He vanished. Never to be heard from again. BACK ON THE PHONE FOR HOURS. HEADACHE AFTER HEADACHE. I was finally routed to another person in the escalations dept. She was very nice as well. Very helpful and swore we would rectify my situation. She even called me back when we were disconnected!! She collected the videos, all of my emails from the other agents, and even more video evidence i took while I was on the phone with her. She had 2 plans of action. Plan A and Plan B. SHE PROMISED!!! I still had faith. Days went by. Each day I thanked her for caring. Each day I sent another video of it not working just to help............. I never heard from her again. Now I feel Samsung is in direct violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 and I have no choice but to take legal action. DO NOT BUY THIS VACUUM!!! I HAVE READ TONS OF CUSTOMER SERVICE NIGHTMARES JUST LIKE MINE!!! SAMSUNG WON'T STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT OR HONOR THEIR WARRANTY.

I've only had this vacuum for 1 week. I will leave another review if my opinion changes. My first robotic. I've affectionately named him Sammy. With 3 cats, 2 dogs & 2 kids, he has been a life changer. I've been amazed at his dexterity. Just when I think he's truly hung up on something, he manages to free himself. My floors look amazing! He's quickly becoming my favorite family member. I highly recommend this vacuum.

I wanted another vacuum for the other level of my house and after having an iRobot battering ram, I decided to try a different vacuum. I first tried this vacuum on my main level. It performed poorly. It is horrible at getting around edges. It does not go under toe kicks on cabinets. The only good thing is it did not get stuck under any furniture, but that is because it never attempted to clean under any furniture either. Other than under furniture, it got stuck on the same obstacles as the iRobot. I then moved this to the second floor. The lack of the battering ram feature is good for not damaging furniture, but it still does not clean around any edges. The remote functions are certainly useless as well. I used the point and clean feature and the vacuum moved a few inches (no where near the spot) and stopped. It also mapped all of my rooms as one large room, so it does not tell what rooms have been cleaned and I cannot select specific rooms to re-clean. If you have one large room with no edges, this is the vacuum for you. The fact that Samsung has recently stopped supporting other smart devices on their apps such as my smart refrigerator and tv, I hope I get more than two years of app functionality out of it, now that I am stuck with it. This will also likely be my last Samsung purchase. Just in time for a new washer, dryer, range, and TV.

    Neato is far better

I purchased the Neato Botvac originally but a piece fell off and their tech support were being difficult about sending a new one so I took it back. I purchased the Samsung 9250W and it was less than stellar. This unit will not recharge then resume on its own. It requires you to use the remote or app to resume after recharge. Then it cleaned the room the recharging cradle was in first and eventually made its way out to the area of the house that it hadn't cleaned before until it needed to be charged again. It took the most circuitous route back to the charger and I had to intervene twice because it got stuck under a chair. It also drops off the wifi a lot and several times I got a message that the app failed to connect to the server. When I called Samsung for help they actually wanted me to unplug and disconnect all other devices connected to the router. That kind of help is useless in my book. If the device can't connect to a standard Airport Extreme then it shouldn't be sold. Honestly I think this technology is just not up to par yet for prime time.

Don’t spend all your money on this vacuum. Others that are less expensive work way better. My husband bought this for me. It worked ok. It got caught under stuff all the time!! Then we didn’t use it for a month and it started giving the code C03 (something stuck in the wheel). Nothing was stuck. After going through multiple phone calls Samsung told me to send it in - knowing it wasn’t under warranty - but they said we would just have to pay to have it fixed. Ok that may have been cheaper than buying a different one. Once the service center receives it they said that they only fix ones under warranty. So I went to the trouble to send it in only for them to tell me there’s nothing they can do. So... buy a different brand. The expensive one isn’t always the best one!

Beware! Samsung directed me to send my out of Warranty unit to their service center for repair. They have one service center in the united states. Once received by their contracted service center(not Samsung) they have no way to accept credit card payments. I spoke with multiple levels of management at Samsung and they will not repair this machine. Do not by this machine, it lasted 2 years and there is nowhere to have it repaired. If you buy this machine get an extended warranty!!!! At the cost of this machine, should be repairable but its not!!!!!!!
