Love it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the first step to home automation. It was very easy to setup, I even love the feature that will notify you of weather warnings. Product works great with Alexa and well on its own.

Awesome home automation product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SmartThings is a great hub to use for a smart home. Though the interface can be somewhat confusing and anything more advanced than the basics of adding new devices can be a confusing maze of menus and unintuitive screens, that's a minor consideration compared to the compatibility it offers - Z-Wave, Zigbee, even other devices not technically 'smart' but with internet connections such as cameras are all available. There's also an incredibly strong community of users and developers that constantly come up with new ways to integrate. In short, despite some shortcomings with the UI, the strong community and compatibility with so many devices make it a fantastic way to connect to your smart home.

Surprised by features it has and is lacking
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the hub and 3 water detectors because it was cheaper than 3 wifi water detectors and had a longer advertised battery life. After playing around with it I soon purchased motion detectors, multi purpose sensors, proximity sensors, Zwave switches and outlets. There are a bunch of built-in apps such as elder care monitoring which gives you piece of mind for a few dollars. I also found the hub can control many of your other Smart internet enabled device like a thermostat, or Smart doorbells or cameras. I soon found I had so many devices they were hard to control using the app and a smart phone due to the small screen size so I added an Amazon Alexa to make everything voice controlled which just made everything easier. Good: Hub has both Zwave and Zigbee controllers. That is good because you have more choices of devices to control. App is easy to use for simple things. Very easy, low cost solution to do simple automation. Has a lot of integration options for other wifi devices such as thermostats. These options are sometimes hard to get to work and the Samsung support team does help you troubleshoot. What it is missing: It lacks Bluetooth!!!!! A lot of Smart Devices such as light bulbs are moving away from Zigbee and Zwave and moving to Bluetooth due to cost. It lacks Wi-Fi!!!!! The hub requires a physical cable to connect to the Internet. And they give you a 3 foot Ethernet cable and tell you the device is best when at least 6 feet from your wifi hub. Please include longer cable with product. It lacks a website where I can use a larger screen. Trying to program everything required to make this work on a Smart phone app is a pain in the ***. They really need a website or an app that can run on a full screen device. It lacks anything more substantial for automation than just if this than do that. For example I have an outside light controlled by a wall switch, an open/close sensor and a motion detector. The motion detector turns on the light as expected and will turn it off as expected. The open/close sensor turns on the light when the door opens and off when it closes. However there is no way to say turn off the light after the motion died down if and only if the light was turned on by the sensor. Or turn the light off when the door is closed if and only if the light was turned on by the door opening. If you are expecting many people for a party this gets old really quick and you find yourself frantically tryibg ti disable it manually. Or turn the light off after 11pm if and only if it was turned on by the switch.

Great automation hub!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Probably the best cross-platform automation hub out there! Allows you to interface with most smart devices from different manufacturers allowing you to control everything seamlessly through one app!

Smartthings Hub v2
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Smartthings system appears to run more smoothly now that I have upgraded to the new hub version. Migrating some of the outlets was painful as the zWave exclusion procedure is non-intuitive. Best part of the new Hub is the localization of the individual apps, so that network issues won't affect the operation of the SmartApps.

Superb Hub, always improving
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like this hub for its tons of functionality. There is most certainly a learning curve to sell the Zigbee, Zwave, and Wi-Fi as well as out if home connections, but once you get the han g of it, home automation seems like a hobby, haha Fun and sometimes frustratibg. Just be patient and search for answers because there's so much cool stuff that can be done. I have mine paired with lights, motion sensors, Locks and, outlets. All work great and love the notifications. Oh, by the way, Amazon Alexa plays very well with this so enjoy some voice control too!

Cool device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have never had a wireless hub that controls things before until now. This hub is super easy to setup, connects to a ton of things and give me peace of mind watching my house when I am not there.

Works great once you find the right apps to use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Samsung has too many apps in the app Store and using the wrong one makes things frustrating. Once we download SmartThings, it does a great job of controlling all the Smart home devices (switches, outlets, zygby locks, etc. It does not really work with the Samsung Smart Home appliances yet.

Best hub for home control and security
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used both the smartthings hub and ecosystem and the wink hub and ecosystem. If you care about home security notifications, and compatibility, smartthings wins hands down. Each hub has its limitations; neither is compatible with 100% of smart home accessories. But Samsung has a robust developer community that has added support for some additional devices that it does not work with natively (e.g. nest). The control app is responsive and works well. It supports a ton of sensors and z-wave devices. I have an arlo camera system, a nest thermostat, a schlage lock, hue hub, rachio sprinkler, skybell, and z wave light switches connected. All work great.

Genie in a box.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Makes magic happen with the right stuff. I’m afraid though that Samsung is becoming like Sony and wanting proprietary technology. But that is no reflection of this. The sale price makes it worth it. It went on sale twice during Christmas, usually does in the late spring early summer too.

The Cornerstone of My Smart Home
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You can put a bunch of sensors and actuators in your house, but that will do very little to make it smart. The components will only work together up to the limit of their control system, and this hub is a fantastic system. Turning on/off devices is fairly easy, but the best use of SmartThings is in the creation of Routines. For example, my GE motion sensors are each programmed to turn on a set of nearby lights when they detect motion (and off again after no motion for a time period). The system is virtually infinitely configurable, and it has a lot to offer for users at every skill level from interested novice to erudite programmer.

So far works Great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far I have found the hub very easy to use. I did not have any issues with connecting devices. The setup is quick and easy. The app is simple to use and it is easy to setup automation.

Works great, but setup is harder than I thought
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The hub is small and easy to connect to the network. But why can't it use WiFi? Plugging it into the router may not have it in the best location in the house. And it lacks documentation about the USB ports on the hub. Connecting the Z-Wave device to the hub was pretty easy. Getting the Samsung app to see the hub was easy. Getting Alexa to see this hub was a ------! There are three different SKILLS in Alexa's lists that seem like the right thing. But only one works: SmartThings Samsung Connect. It would be nice if the $98 hub had a note that said which skill to use. The $30 outlets from another company had great documentation!

Works great with my lock
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to use. Hub has to be closer to door than I planned to worked. Had to be innovative on LAN placement. Once running, informs me of all door opens closes anywhere I am. Works great.

I'm Laziness Lvl 20 now
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to setup, works seamlessly with Amazon echo. Getting lazy now, porch lights turn on and off automatically. When I head up to bed, I just say "alexa, turn on bedtime" and all lights turn off, sonos turns off. "alexa, snack time" turns on all lights leading from my bedroom to the kitchen. Going to work in the garage? Alexa, turn on the air compressor. Apparently turning on a gas fireplace via non local control is frowned upon by code creator bean counters. It is possible, but requires more than a z wave switch. Not worth my time, flipping a switch to create fire is lazy enough for me.

Simple, reliable and affordable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The hub works exactly as advertised with a whole host of functionality. The product is simple to setup and use, but if you really want to harness the hubs full capacity you'll need to have a little technical acumen. Luckily, there is a whole community of developers who have contributed applications for a wide range of products that are easily integrated via the web portal. From a developer perspective the supplied IDE is a little clunky, but I think it works well for novice programmers/tech hobbyists. the hub was installed simply through a mobile app and automatically detected the majority of my devices.

Product is great. Instructions... not great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an older Z Wave starter set from Schlage - a lock (model BE369) and smart outlet plus a Nexia hub. However, paying $114/yr for their Nexia online service is ridiculous when you can buy this (I paid $50 on sale) as a one time cost and have what you really NEED for Z Wave functionality. However, setup process was not as clear as it could be. Instructs say follow a link to start from a browser on your phone. In actuality - you need to to install the SmartThings app. All set up (in my case) can be done from the smartphone app. Then, if you have an existing Samsung account, which I do for my tablets - use that as your login. Also, the 'Welcome Code' is printed on the back of the sleeve you cast aside when you open the Quick Start guide. My smart outlet (which I had never used) was added very easily. Just make sure you know how to get your device into pairing mode. The lock was a bit trickier - likely since it was used with Nexia service for a few years before. Also, locks pair in 'whisper mode' - that is - your hub needs to be very close (a few feet away) to pair up; makes sense - you don't want your neighbor to be able to pair up to your lock. So you either uninstall the lock and bring it next to the hub, or tow a long network cable and bring the hub to the door/lock. I chose the latter... After multiple attempts to pair with my lock failed, I swallowed my pride and called Samsung support. Before I called, I did a factory reset of my lock to make sure nothing from my old Nexia setup was interfering. Support walked me through the 'Device Exclusion' process. (go into 'More', select 'Hub is Online', Z Wave utilities, General Device Exclusions, Remove). After that ran, pairing worked as expected. Support was US based, too. (thank you). Great being able to see my lock status. Next I will be adding smart dimmers to create different lighting modes. Great to avoid paying Nexia $114/yr for capabilities that should be free.
