I gifted this hub to my parent for Christmas about two years ago, my dad loves all the cool new smart home hardware and features and this hub really is the only way to have a completely smart home without breaking the bank. After the initial setup its pretty easy to forget the hub even exists. Since I gave him this hub he's added ~15 lightbulbs from various manufactures, 2 TV's, a Refrigerator, 2 light switches, 2 dimmers, 5 connected outlets, a garage door opener and a door lock. Samsung has been pretty good about keeping the Smarthings app up to date as well, you can set routines and rules right in the app as well as add family members to interact with connected devices. I don't think there is much competition in the smart home hub space but if there is look no further

Very easy setup and works with so many things. Easy to create automations. Can be buggy at times though. Currently have Samsung trying to figure out why it is constantly getting a network/server error.

Works well with my old Iris devices

I had to download the Classic Smartthings app along with the Newer Smartthings app to install all my old Iris devices to my samsung hub. So although the new app didn't recognize well things like my outlet plug from Iris, the Classic version did. Then the Classic app transfers the old device information over to the new app, and voila! Both old and new apps have your old airis devices installed and working and your hub puts them all together. Very happy with my hub purchase. Highly recommend for those stuck with all the Iris devices. But you must download both the classic app and the new app. Use the classic app to install old devices.

Installed the Samsung - SmartThings Hub originally to replace my Wink Hub as they are now only work with a paid subscription process. I had previously installed the SmartThings APP on my phone and linked several devices to it and it worked find, but when I initially tried to install the SmartThings Hub it would not register the Hub. The instructions were not clear and finally after going to SmartThings support I got the instructions I needed. So here they are (1) Remove the devices along with the Hub from your account in the SmartThings app before setting the hub back up. (2) Create a new location and now add the Hub to this location (3) Then connect Hub to SmartThings account by following simple steps provided in the below link: https://support.smartthings.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002084806 It works great now!!!

Easy to setup and connect to water sensors and TV. Can be placed a good distance away from sensors and still reach the devices, even battery operated ones.

Easy to set up, but not as intuitive as the Wink hub, so getting some products two work might take a little research. The unit is very small, about the size of a sandwich and stays cool. Great range and works with ZWave technology. Having an existing Samsung account for other appliances can confuse installation. I registered a TV a long time ago, so when I tried to create a new account for SmartThings, it said my account already existed so logging into this is different for me than if I was a new customer - confusing. The iPhone app is pretty easy and very responsive. Can we used wireless or wired.

Great automation hub for Z Wave AND Zigbee devices

I use this hub to control many Z Wave devices at home. The SmartThings app makes the control much easier to use. The freedom to control BOTH Z Wave and Zigbee is a big plus. The device is very easy to setup and the pairing of devices is very easy as well. Definitely recommend it.

I had a WINK Hub2, for a few years. Their service was somewhat stable but it was not rock solid by any means. It would be great for months then it would have issues. The final straw was when they started charging a monthly service fee for their Hub service. I said that was enough and went out and bought a SmartThings Hub. It was easy to set up and it worked with my can lights. Rock solid performance. I have not had a problem yet. I should have gone this route from the beginning. Very Happy with my SmartThings Hub. Highly recommend!!!

Really easy to set up and use. What I like is that Samsung doesn’t try to lock you in to their system. You can connect any zigbee 3.0 smart device or z-wave smart device or (my least favorite) wifi device. Using zigbee or zwave means that if the internet hets knocked out, the smarthouse keeps on working... how awesome is that? I wish google would smarten up and get their nest stuff working with smartthings faster. I have my google purchases on hold until those devices will Work with smartthings properly.

I replaced another hub which was having constant issues. The Samsung SmartThings Hub is priced well and was relatively simple to set up. I had some issues with certain smart devices, but often that is due to the vagaries of each manufacturer's devices. Physically this hub is small and unobtrusive, otherwise there's not much to say about a hub, is there? It connects smart devices and allows them to operate throughout your home. Nothing fancy, it should just work, and this does!

BIG Improvements on Ease of Use and Coverage

Was an early adapter of all things home automation. Past hubs include Wink, previous generation SmartThings and others. This 3rd generation was the easiest of Hubs to get going with some pretty amazing integration features. I reside in a large two story home with lots of diving walls and equally large outdoor entertainment areas. I was able to connect all lighting, sound, security.... with ease. The programming is quite easy and the intuitiveness like Alexa is constantly improving.

Main like is it is z-wavy and bigbee compatible. This allows more access to smart devices although you may need a special device handler but those are easy to find or you can program your own.
The app, rather apps, Classic and Smartthings, need to be combined into a single app. You need the Classic to control some devices and the newer app to control other devices...combine them into 1 app.

Updated SmartThings hub

I decided to update my SmartThings hub recently. The new model was easy to setup. I like that you can connect it to your network wirelessly or thru Ethernet. So far the hub has worked very reliably. I will say the updated app to control this hub makes it easier to add devices by brand, but some of the extra security features of this hub made it harder to get my older devices connected.

This was my first purchase to convert from X10 and Insteon. Setup couldn't have been easier and compatibility with both Zwave AND Zigbee. Adding devices can be tricky (getting a Thing in pairing mode) but a quick Google search is the answer. Word of advice: download both the new Smartthings app and Smartthings Classic, and use Google. Most likely someone has had the same difficulty and has posted an answer or how to video.

I recently got the Samsung SmartThings Hub to replace my SmartThings link I was using with my NVIDIA Shield until the Shield died. This was a smarter choice since it allowed me to separate the processor's task and made a more reliable choice for my smart home control. The ease of use that SmartThings has and the compatibility with so many devices made SmartThings the right choice for me.

Moved from Wink to SmartThings. All my Zigbee and Z-Wave devices works. Including light bulbs, Kwikset door lock, GoControl Garage Door opener, GoControl motion and door sensors. Only problem I have is you'll need to use both old and new Samsung apps. Easy to setup and automate things.

I got a smoking deal on a bulk set of Sylvania smart home lights and this is the only hub that was both locally available and that also worked with the lights the best. Easy to set up with the Samsung SmartThings application and easy to link to Alexa or Google assistant. Samsung makes great products and there's no shortage of quality here.

I bought this to replace my Wink system. I’m super happy with how easy it was to install and sync a of my devices. The biggest problem I’m running into now is that it will lose network connection a couple of times a day. None of my other devices have this issue.

This really ties all my tech together. Can use with Alexa even when certain tech won't directly work with Alexa. For instance I have Bali power blinds which are not directly comparable with Alexa but I can control them with Alexa by going through the SmartThings Hub. Does require a bit of setup but totally worth it.
