I'm not sure if I received a bad player but I didn't want to take a chance. My last two Samsung DVD player only lasted 2 years. This one lasted 3 weeks. I decided to switch to Sony (Too bad all my TV's in my house are Samsung) because I don't see quality material coming out of Samsung. I do love the picture it shows when it's working but the reliability is just not there.

Lots of issues

Stay away

Maybe a defective unit?

I bought an expensive 4K 2m HDMI cable and could not get this player to play 4K ultra hd discs. The normal Blu rays play fine. I even had my Home Automation crew over today. They replaced all cables and were unable to get this unit to play ultra hd discs even when connected directly to my Samsung NU8000 UHD TV. If Best Buy is willing to swap this unit out for another, I’ll provide an updated review.

A revelation! An amazing upgrade!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had an inexpensive Samsung blu ray player for years and noticed that it was really slow for HULU and NETFLIX as well as being relatively slow to load. Also a lot of noise on certain scenes on certain blu ray discs. Researched this player and liked what I was reading but was unprepared for how responsive it is, how fast it is on all levels, and the picture quality is stunning. Better, tighter color, less noisy and sharper with practically zero artifacts in shadows. Seriously worth the extra cost. And unlike most Samsung players, this model actually weighs something. There is definitely more inside as far as power supplies and drives to contribute to the better performance. I also bought a better Audioquest HDMI cable - about 2x more than a standard cable - and that definitely improved things even more. Again, better tighter color and sharpness overall. Recommended without hesitation.

Poor Product!!!

It did not work, right out of the box. When Geek Squad took a look at it, they said the circuitry was hosed. I had to buy a 8500 model that cost me $50 more because I needed one right away.

Improved Video Imaging and Sound Integration

I went from a Pioneer Elite Blu-ray to this UHD Blu-ray. I was using my Yamaha RX-A1060 to upscale, but upscaling at the disc player is better still. The vast improvement is in start time. There were discs I thought might not play they took so long to start in the older unit. Now they start up fast enough they almost beat me to my seat. Bottom line, better image, fast, very good video sound integration. The only thing I don't like is the curved face. It doesn't mate up with other devices as well as a flat face would.

Sharp picture
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this player after my new Sony X800 didn't quite beat my 3 year old Samsung bluray player. The Sony wasn't as sharp, and this new Samsung 4k player is razor sharp. Being brand new, the price hasn't come down yet. It actually interfaces with my Sony 930e tv better than the sony. I had to actually go to the home menu and select the tv channel to get back to watching tv. NOT WITH THE SAMSUNG! As soon as the door opens, the player automatically switches back to the channel, and your watching tv. I really like the remote, although some reviews didn't like it. It's compact, and does everything you need. I'm sure that last years model is just as good, but this will play all formats. I like my movies sharp, and this player is. I recommend this highly.

Overall Solid Player

It pairs quite well with the tv and the picture and sound is great. There are plenty of picture setting to fine tune to fit your display. There are also a few sound output options. I like that this unit has a removable power cable, it makes it a bit easier to install. I haven't had any luck getting an external USB drive to work yet. I used to use this feature on my other Samsung 3D bluray player and it works flawlessly. But on this player the unit just freezes when I try to play any file and a hard reboot is required.
