I've used a variety of the SanDisk products including many of the previous generation flash drives. Design-wise this one looks nicer than the previous ones, but to me it's not really anything that's a big deal. SanDisk flash drives have always been great for me. Like many other reviews have stated, I always delete all the files/programs that come preloaded on the SandDisk flash drives because they don't seem to serve any benefit for what I use the flash drives for. I mainly use the SanDisk flash drives for storing and playing mp3's on my Pioneer car stereo. This 32gb drive is my first time using any SanDisk flash drive larger than 16gb. The Best Buy salesperson was very helpful in explaining that the larger capacity could result in noticeably longer loading times, and he is definitely right. My 16gb drive usually loads/starts playing fairly quick, the 8gb even faster, and the 4gb loads/plays almost immediately. I think I have a total of around 23gb of mp3's on the 32gb flash drive. It takes about two minutes to load and start playing. This isn't the flash drive's "fault;" it's due to the stereo's design. I load the same 32gb flash drive into the factory car stereos for our company cars (both Hyundai's), and they start playing immediately. I say all that to say that if you're purchasing this larger capacity to be able to play a larger amount of mp3's on a car stereo you might want to be mindful of what model stereo you're using it in and if you're willing to put up with the potential long load time. Another thing that the Best Buy salesperson explained to me is that the difference between this 2.0 version and the more expensive 3.0 versions has to do only with speed of writing (copying files to the flash drive) and has nothing to do with the speed of the aforementioned loading/playing stuff. This was a very helpful explanation to me and my limited knowledge of computers and stuff. Hope that helps. Matthew 7:12

I bought a new laptop. Its been a long time since I've bought a new computer. A real long time. Back then you made a Recovery/Boot CD. Flash Drives (FD) were expensive and their capacity was small compared to today's drives. The new laptop manual said I needed a FD larger than 16GB. Wow! What is that going to cost? Best Buy to the rescue. This FD has more capacity than 6+ DVD's. Sliding the USB connector out of and back into the protective body is smooth. Transfer time was fast compared to the rate of writing to a DVD. Compared too other FD's I don't know. Back to cost, it had the lowest cost per GB of all others on the store shelf. I feel FD's have the potential to be large security risk. They are very small and getting smaller. They are usually dark colored. Very light weight. Their capacities continue to increase. Being small can make them hard to find and their dark color makes it even harder at night or against a dark background. Their light weight makes them easy to be pushed off a desk by paper shuffling. Where is your trash can? The more they store the more you can lose. You usually realize the value and vulnerability of your data when you're trying to remember what was on your FD. GUARD YOUR FD WITH YOUR.... Losing a FD might....

I give the Cruzer I have four stars because of two problems. First, the unit I have is much smaller than the one pictured although the specs seem to be the same. I am actually amazed that I haven't lost it yet. It is roughly the size of two postage stamps . It was the only affordable USB drive in stock at the Lubbock store when I needed one urgently. The unit shown in the photo, though, is substantially larger making me think that problem has been fixed. My second problem is that the unit I have is USB2, not 3. Again it was the only thing in stock at the time, and I haven't yet copied anything to it large enough to present a problem. If it is now USB 3, I would give it five stars.

I bought this item because I had the worse computer crash in the history of computer crashes so I needed to install Windows 10 on it and then reinstall Windows 10 on a new hard drive. I caught it on sale for I think 5.99. For this capacity, eventhough 2.0, the usb was essentially free! I rarely give any product 5 stars. In this case, it is really 5 stars because it did what it was supposed to do and the price was right. I have actually recommended it to a friend of mine as she needed a usb to make use of portable files. If you are moving large files and need the faster transfer rates, then you should consider the 32 gb rated for 3.0 ports which was on sale yesterday (December 11, 2016) for 10.99 which is still essentially free! lol...If you need more space than that, then you really should be looking at the WD Passport 1TB or my favorite 2B as you can get a good deal on those.... Happy shopping....

    Familiar, reliable portable storage

This is one of a class of now familiar storage devices that are generally reliable although in other models I've owned (this one is fine so far# slider guides and the detent at the end point of travel tend to wear down, leaving the slide free to rattle around and #more importantly) will require an extra finger to hold slider steady while inserting device into USB port. Otherwise I've had no reason to complain about San Disk products and am obviously thrashing around in search of shortcomings. My advice: don't worry. The Cruzer will probably give reliable service for years. It's not immediately clear from the packaging that this is a USB 2.0 device; the front card says only that it is USB 2.0/3.0 compatible. One final note: I have not tried the preloaded security software

It's a USB thumb drive. You plug it in, it works. Nothing more to it. Good capacity, and I know the Cruzer line is a great quality product. (My last thumb drive is a 4GB Cruzer which went through a washer and dryer cycle. Didn't lose a bit!) Transfers just as fast as any other stick on USB 2.0. Have NOT yet tried it on a USB 3.0 interface. The encryption program that comes on the disk is simple and effective. It provides a drag and drop interface for storing files, and they can be viewed through the software in a read-only mode. To edit, one must remove the file from the store, edit it, then replace it (and then shred the unencrypted file). According to SanDisk, it uses 128-bit AES encryption, which is sufficient for any non-paranoid user. It does only allow one encrypted store per stick, so multiple people cannot encrypt files on the same device. It also has YuuWaa integration, though I did not try it.

Slowest Cruzer I have ever owned

I have purchased many SanDisk flash drives in the past and liked them but this model is painfully slow! If I were to use it for personal use it might be just ok, but not when I am transferring large files in a customers office. The design has one flaw in my opinion. The drive came with no lanyard which by itself was no surprise. What troubled me was how difficult it was to attach a ringlet to it. Due to its design I was not able to attach a ringlet and had to opt instead for a string unit (a string unit that passes through the drive catch and then back through itself). I hope that makes sense. Anyway in the end I wish I had gone with my gut and bought the Kingston. To bad too because I had always been a fan of SanDisk in the past but not any more.

Using the device was as easy; nothing beyond 'plug'n'play was required for it to work. Good by me! The unit was 1/2 off from MSRP when I bought, so I perceive that I got a 'Really good deal!!!!!'. But, there were other devices available for about the same cost, that weren't as severely discounted. What was on SanDisk's mind when they OK'd the pricing??!! I really don't know if the 'deal' I got was spectacular, based on performance (or quality, durability, longevity). Seriously, it could be just so/so and I wouldn't know the difference; I am a dumbed down buyer. But, yeah, I like the device. It hasn't failed me yet, but neither has my 256mg Imagion thumb drive that I use to cruise between hard drives.

The latest trend of removing CD players from new cars requires a dependency on music from smart phones. Which is fine for some people but not what I want for occasional long car trips. After fiddling with several adapters which, for reasons known only to some obscure tech geek, refused to be acknowledged, this one works. Now, if only some other tech geek would fix the software preference that alphabetized each song, I would be totally thrilled. But that is a car audio issue not one for Best Buy.

If you can get this when Best Buy has its incredible sales on flash media, then this is a great value with regards to capacity versus price (got this for under $20)! The Cruzer series, however, leaves a lot to be desired in terms of design. Rather than using a removable cap, the Cruzer "protects" the flash drive from damage by sliding in and out of the housing. Two problems with the execution though: 1) dust, liquid, etc can still enter the drive because the opening is left completely open and 2) the slider doesn't lock into place properly. This means you're either left with awkwardly haven't to keep your thumb pressing on the slider when connecting to a USB port or you push the slider too far forward and it gets stuck.

Needed For User Backups When Hurricane Irma Hit

As part of our immediate needs for Hurricane Irma prep, 2 days before the hurricane was scheduled to get us our upper IT management decided that I must go out and buy thumb drives for people to backup their data onto as needed regardless of the fact that they never felt the need to invest in a sufficient backup solution in the past 15 years I've been with the company. But I went out and bought the drives. None were used at all! Weeks after the hurricane came and went, I had a need to use some thumb drives to make bootable Windows 10 USB sticks. These drives worked perfectly for what I needed them for! I'd highly recommend these for backup or bootable thumb drives!

I really like the compact cruzers to quickly copy or backup files, photos, and music. I have one for each of my categories, such as regular files and classified files. Two or three for photos to separate my family from friends and panoramic sights. Then I have several cruzers to categorize my music playlists such as the fifties and sixties when I grew up. Then I have separate cruzers for type of songs I use for different dances such as ballroom Waltzes, Fox Trot, Rumba, Cha Cha, Tango, Polkas, Swing and Country. I have a separate cruzer for newspaper article clippings that I copy and paste for future reference. And finally I use cruzers to share with my family and friends.

Great little flash drive. Especially when on sale. Small convenience easy to fit in your purse or pocket works well, you don't have to worry about it getting broken because tip retracks and will not bend. It will store your information quickly and efficiently and you can always go back and get your information off of it I love the convenience finding it quickly when it's in my purse because it's not too big and it's not too small that i can't find it. And like I said before I love the price when it's on sale the 32 gigabyte has a good amount of space for work projects, school projects, or just things you may want to store on a flash drive.

I like the look of this Flash USB Drive, and it is quite handy. The USB connector slides in and out, so it stays protected, and it is a good size for on the go. It is USB 2.0, though, so it's not very fast for moving big files and folders around, but it works well enough for me. I use it for bringing files back and forth between school and home. Also, it comes with a protection software if you want to secure your files if you carry any sensitive data on it.

    Excellent Improvement from 8GB Cruzer

I bought this as an upgrade from my 8GB cruzer. Sandisk makes excellent products and I've never been disappointed with the storage for the price on them. The only massive complaint I can really register on the device is the plastic shell and the sliding mechanism. The shell feels cheaply made (though I've dropped my 8GB several times with not a problem after). I believe that's more of an aesthetics issue than a real product problem. The sliding mechanism, on the other hand, is the one complaint with the Cruzer product line. Over time, it doesn't lock into place as easily as it did when it was newer. I've never had a problem with it not being recognized due to the usb connection being fully extended.

Sandisk it about as stable a device as you can get. I've have at least 6-8 of these and they all work great. A couple even survived being in the washing machine and dryer (though I am fortunate it didn't happen with this one). The only issue is the open/close mechanism - you have to push down of the red plastic piece and slide up or down - can stick and some people have trouble opening and closing it. It does hold well in either the in or out position. One additional note is that this device is a little thicker than previous versions (the red tab sit higher than my older cruzer models), so if you have a computer or laptop with stacked USBs, you won't be able to have two devices in at the same time.

I own 5 of these Cruzer drives. You need these if you value your hard work and your data. I use these exclusively to move my files from one work computer to the next. I use them to present my lectures, to store backups of technical manuals and books. I practice "data backup overkill." I bought this during Black Friday making this the most economical purchase per gigabyte any where. This is using USB 2 technology, so you are not going for ultra fast speeds, but many office computer do not have USB 3 technology. Back up your data often, everywhere, and all the time. Get this when you see it on sale at BestBuy.

These SanDisk - Cruzer 32GB USB's were a good buy at $7.99 so I purchased (3). Was notified by BB that they had arrived, drove to store and was told only two of the three had arrived, rather than giving me one off the shelf (which they had in stock) they told me that it could be 3-5 weeks before the other one came in...Best Buy needs help in their customer service area...I have had similar problems with them in the past. If they want to stay competitive they had better learn how to deal with their customers or they will be going the way of other 'Brick and Mortar' Stores...remember Circuit City?

Classic case of getting what you pay for. It felt cheesy when picked it up in the store, I should've known better. I used it to back up some files and when I tried to remove it from my computer the rectangular metal piece stayed inside and the rest broke off in my hand. When I contacted San Disk they basically said there was nothing they could/would do about it and blew me off. Luckily I was able to make another back up on a better quality drive. They've come down so much in price that for a few more dollars I was able to get a much better quality drive. Live N Learn
