If you want to use it with a Linux computer, then you must re-format it using one of the Linux utilities. I reformatted mine with FAT32, and then I was able to load it up on my 8 year old Macintosh Pro; and subsequently I transferred files to my new Windows 11 Pro computer as well as my new Linux Ubuntu 22.04 server.
