Bought this to use with Time Machine to back up our MacBook Pro. It couldn't be easier to use. It is very fast, compact and completely reliable. Got it on sale and couldn't believe we got a Seagate 2 TB for under $120.

I bought the product based on the familiar name, price, and packaging that stated it worked with Windows 7. Unfortunately the "Windows 7" statement isn't entirely true. You can use Seagate's supplied software, but you can't use the Windows backup utility, which I wanted to use so I could include a system image. Seagate's technical support states this is a Microsoft problem in that their backup utility doesn't support Advance Formatted disks. Personally I don't care who's problem it is, I just don't think the advertisement on the box is entirely true. As of now (5 weeks later), I still haven't resolved the problem..

software does not work. Contacted Seagate. They have noticed the error and are working to determine its cause and to have a new version but it will be the new year. When using a different software I cannot do a full system backup because the system backup is limited to 250 megabytes and my computer is 290 mb.

To give the product the benefit of the doubt, I will assume that the reason that it didn't work with my dish hopper is because it was pre-formatted for Mac.

I'm confused if it's working? But I am technology challenged. If it's working, I am glad because I do want a backup files device and this was a value and large storage.

Purchased this for an upgrade in storage for my media drive. I had used it maybe half a dozen times to include initial transfer of files to it. In the middle of moving a new movie from iTunes to it, it died. So dead that it will not even recognize on any computer

I keep reading positive reviews, but this is my third Seagate drive that's failed in the last year. I'm so over Seagate products, and Lacie and Maxtor too, made by the same company I understand. My little Toshiba 1Tb has never failed me, so I've learned my lesson.

Great working device for multiple purposes that I need. Just that I bought product a little overpriced compared to others.

We had a previous backup drive that died. We purchased this new one and it did not work with our older computers. PC must be Windows 7 or newer Mac must be OS 10.6 or newer. Not everyone can update all their computers for new ones every year or so. A network backup drive should work on all systems... or it's not a true network drive. The older Segate 3TB drive had no issues.
