Customers are saying

Customers highly value the ease of use, ample storage capacity, and compact size of the Backup Plus Desktop 2TB External Hard Drive. Many appreciate its compatibility with various systems and the reasonable price point. While some users experienced minor issues with the included software and reported some noise, the positive feedback on its performance and design outweighs these concerns. The drive's lightweight nature is also frequently praised.

    Nice drive, but rather fragile

A good drive, but not extremely sturdy. Dropped flat from approximately 2ft above a wooden floor and it toasted the drive. Admittedly, my fault, but have had other drives of the same type emerge from worse unscathed. Upon opening found that it is essentially a bare drive with a tight-fitting plastic shell. Works well, but treat it gently.

Product told me transfer of photos was successfully completed. Unfortunately, I deleted them from my hard drive before I confirmed successful transfer. Pictures DID NOT transfer. I bought this product in the past and had not had a problem so I was surprised by this.

    Done with Seagate

This is the second Seagate to corrupt my photos. I called customer support and they told me it was my camera or computer. However, I've gotten a new computer since it happened the first time, and it's also photos from my phone that are corrupted. This representative did not even try to resolve my issue, or understand where I was coming from. The first representative from a year ago atleast tried to help me. Seagate's are overrated in my book and I'm done dealing with them and losing pictures.

I dropped mine on the carpet and it froze some of the files. My wife has one and had the same issue. Very light drops and caused damage. Go with a better quality.

I bought this product in May 2016 and it stopped working properly in February 2017. Hardeive is spinning but no computer can recognize. Hoping seagate can pull my files.

I"m hoping that i just got a product that was assembled on a late Friday after noon before closing. This product had very high ratings that I could find before I purchased this hard drive. This was to be used as a media drive and only used maybe a half dozen times. Well today while i was trying to save a new movie to it, it mechanically failed. Caused me to lose all my movies and other media files.

    Back Up Your Data

    Posted .

This is a great drive for backups or data storage. I find Seagate drives to be much more reliable and long-lived than Western Digital. In use, USB3 is about twice as fast as USB2, not the ten-times you might have been led to expect. However, even twice as fast makes a big difference when you are talking about 2 Terabytes. The drive can get hot during heavy operations, I stand it on edge at times for better cooling. I have two of these drives for outboard storage. One is the master, and the other is a copy of it that I maintain periodically with Windows SyncToy. This way, if either drive fails, I can quickly get a replacement and mirror it to the survivor. You should NEVER trust your data on a single drive, you will lose everything when the drive fails. Note that I say "when", not "if". If you are using the external drive to back up your internal, one is enough. I originally got this drive for a Mac, but later reformatted NTFS it for a PC.

I've always preferred Seagate hard drives after one of mine failed and computer repair staff suggested Seagate products; this is my second external hard drive for various computers. Works well, loads easily, and provides a ton of storage in a compact size.

    Not for XBOX 360

I bought this drive to take advantage of the new expanded 2 TB storage for xbox 360. This is not plug and play, I could not get the hard drive to format correctly to work with the xbox 360, even trying multiple formats on the PC. It always showed as unformatted and got an error when attempting to format on the 360. Research online shows Seagate is known to have issues with this for the xbox 360. If you're not planning on using this for the 360, then you should be fine. I have a similar Seagate working just fine on my Wii U, and from what I read the Xbox One has no issues. PC compatibility should be fine as well. I'd just caution against getting this if you plan to use it for the xbox 360. Get a Western Digital hard drive instead.
