Needed a new backup drive large enough to hold everything and then some. After looking at the Personal Cloud, we decided to buy it instead of a regular drive. We have not regretted it one bit! We were able to copy and / or move all our files from multiple computers onto this one drive, and we can access our files from any computer on our network. We don't have to worry about where we saved them!

This was my second attempt to set up a personal cloud. The first, 2-3 years ago, did not go well, but the software and hardware has improved quite a bit. I had some minor problems in setting up the system, but nothing unusual and I must admit that I was rushed at the time. (Be sure to have the latest updates before you start.)
Once set up, it works just fine. All computers on my network can access it easily, and data transfers are as fast as my network allows.
You can also share your cloud with others through the internet. Be aware that they have total access to your files. That is, they can change or delete them. If there is a way to grant them 'read only' access, I have not found it.

Seagate 4T NAS Drive

I have this in a stack with 2 other 4T's and One 3T NAS drives. I use them for my home networked media center. I have had only one incident and Seagate customer support was a 15 with 10 being high. They sent me a replacement ASAP. I was able to recover approx: 85% of the video data on the damaged drive using Seagates recovery software. Took me a while but it worked out ok. I love these NAS drives.

Once I was able to get this set up on my network it has worked like a charm. I had to call Seagate to get it working though. The instructions make it sound easy but, in my case, it was not. I'm on a Mac and it wouldn't show up on my network, on a Mac or PC. I had to plus the PC directly in to my router through the Ethernet port. Then, in my Web browser, go to the IP address to which my router was showing the hard drive connected. That showed the log in and I was able to go through the setup. Setup included multiple firmware upgrades, after which I could see the drive as a shared device on both computers. Seagate tech support was very helpful though so call if you have any issues.

This works great right out of the box. Use it for movies and songs and with it being wireless there are no problems with data from computer,MP3, or the tv connections

snappy but limited performance. I would like to see applications and third party support but for a working out of the box mini-nas device, it's totally fine. No complaints.

For a tech savvy house or for the beginner, this is great to have all your digital files in one place that is easily accessible. No problems here

Not a Good Backup Solution

This works well as a network drive, but I haven't had much luck using the Seagate backup software. I bought this over a month ago specifically to replace a network back-up drive. I've been successful at backing up a Mac using Time Machine, but thus far, have not had a successful back-up of the Windows 7 PC using the Seagate Dashboard. First I found that, if the backup isn't complete, it starts over from the beginning after reboot. Then I tried leaving my computer on for days (over a week) only to have it reach about 50% then lose connectivity with the drive and have to start over. It is painfully slow over wireless, but should be robust enough to resume after interruption.

This hard drive couldn't be any easier to use and set up. Great way to store and access files via the cloud with no monthly storage fees.

I ran out of space on my wired hard drives and wanted to look at some network storage to keep some movies on without bogging down my computer's hard drive. All in all I'm happy with it so far, it's been really solid as long as I'm at home on my network. The connection to Sdrive however it hit or miss - sometimes it's great, sometimes it just doesn't work at all and I can't see a single file. While I'm not ruling out user error, it could be a smoother experience. But the drive itself is working great so far, very happy with this purchase.
