My technical advisor helped with the setup, and I'm very pleased with the Seagate - Personal Cloud 4TB External Hard Drive.

Setting this up to talk to my Google wifi and merge with my home network devices proved to be an onerous, banal task. My devices are a chromebook, an Asus android tablet, a Remix mini android like , a Windows 10 desktop. Devices include a Seagate Goflex wireless drive, Epson and HP printer/scanner, and straming devices. Blending with all of them was like pulling teeth. Seagate app is primitive. My mobile is Google Pixel 2. Still have not established access over internet. Transferring files from old Seagate GoFlex to personal cloud took 32 hours over Google wifi. Once setup works fine. But chromebook still requires adding manually to file system.

I bought this Seagate hard drive after my previous Seagate hard drive bit the dust. The Seagate rep I spoke with talked this up like it was the best thing since sliced bread. Features they advertised were file access from anywhere and through the smart phone.
While this drive has a lot of storage space, I can't access it through my iPhone through either my home network or outside of the home.
I downloaded the Seagate app and everything, but I believe that since the iPhone runs on a different operating system, I'm not able to see any files (including pics).

My first experience with this type of device was a bit rocky at the start. But with a reasonable investment of time and thought, I've reached both an understanding and an appreciation of what the personal cloud has to offer.

I am happy with my personal cloud storage. I find it a bit slow for what I like to have but that is not a deal breaker. I would love to see the manufacturer develop a more unified user application for the web, iphone and mac and pc.

This is a great product because you only not save your stuff on it but able to share in real world. That's so cool. Now I can keep my documents at home but got hand on whenever I need them. Music, photos anything anywhere. Without worries.

The Seagate Personal Cloud is nice attractive NAS device. However, the software that was shipped with the unit needs work. My computer (Windows 10) explorer lost connectivity several times. I can only map the drive using the IP address. Also, connecting to the NAS remotely from an iPhone is complicated.
Last, please note this device does not have redundant/mirror hard drives, so there is no protection against failed drives. Seagate does make a dual drive device if this is important to you.

I just wanted to mirror a backup and a few other folders to a network drive. The Seagate software let you do this very easily so you can set it and forget it. I haven't measured transfer speeds as I'm just using it as an extra backup. I pleasantly surprised this can supposedly run plex. I've tried unsuccessfully to get videos to play but read somewhere that the files need to be MP4 container H.264 (x264). Something to tinker on another time.

Plenty of space for photos but it doesn't store the original date that the picture was taken which means that they are not stored in order of when they were taken.

I needed to add more cloud storage so I decided to try Seagate as I have always used Western Digital. I prefer the WD's user interface but Seagate is acceptable. The more I use it the more I like it.
