Many appreciate the quick setup and compatibility with smart home assistants like Alexa and Google Home, enabling convenient voice control. I was interested in diving into the "smart home" scene and this kit fit the bill. This Sengled Element kit brought all the necessary items to set up a Smart Bulb network including the smart hub, 3 daylight (yellow) led smart bulbs as well as all the needed cables. After connecting the smart hub to my network and downloading the smartphone app I was greeted with a mandatory firmware update for the hub that had no indication of when the process was complete. Luckily everything went smoothly and I had the bulbs up and running in minutes. As mentioned earlier the kit comes with 3 bulbs, but it is expandable (up to 64 bulbs) and you can assign multiple bulbs into rooms so they all power on/off at the same time if you want them to. The smartphone app isn't very visually stimulating but it is very feature filled giving you detailed information about the bulbs. The smart led bulbs actually have built in dimmers, so using the bulbs you can have mood lighting for no additional cost! I expected this smart home bulb kit to have a locked down approach in terms of playing friendly with other brands, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a large list of vendors and accounts in the smartphone app. I had my Google Home and Alexa accounts linked in no time and was glad to see so much openness in a consumer product. TLDR: Smart hub + 3 led bulbs (yellow light), works with Google and Alexa voice commands, smartphone app is feature filled. This is a great starting kit for smart home lighting. Feel free to ask me any questions about this bulb kit.

    The Little Hub Works

This is not my first venture into smart light bulbs. I have others, including some that work directly with Alexa with no hub intervention. But this package was easy to set up and get working. Plug in the hub into one of the Ethernet connections on your router; turn all the bulbs on; download and install the Sengled Element Home software on your smartphone; open the app, and follow the instructions. The only hitch I ran into is that the three bulbs found and identified in the app are named Bulb 1, Bulb 2 and Bulb 3. I had two of them in the dining room lamps and one above the kitchen table, and since each installation was going to be in a different group, I had to physically unscrew two of the bulbs and exchange their location. I was not able to switch them on and off to locate which bulb was where before defining the location: they could only be controlled as a unit. But once the location was defined, then the lights could individually be turned on and off. I then added the Sengled Element Home skill to Alexa and established control over the bulbs in that app. And my commands to turn them on and off were instantly obeyed. The bulbs have a nice, pleasant, soft color temperature, and the brightness for each bulb can be fully adjusted within the Element Home App. The hub does not require a physical Ethernet connection once set up. If you want to move it away from the router and use wi-fi, you simply unplug the power to the unit, wait a minute, move it to the desired location, and power it back on. Somehow the app locates it and you are back in business. Just keep it within the wi-fi range of your router, and you are set.

Great value! You get 3 smart lights plus the hub. All the lights are pre-registered with the hub, so after a quick firmware update, I had it up and going in about 10 minutes. Within a few minutes after that, I had it setup with my Echo, using Alexa to amusingly turn the lights on and off for me. I understand the complaint of the wireless password needing to be extra secure, but I just used it in wired mode directly into my router. Personally, my only gripe is that the app is a bit clunky, and not super easy to get around. Overall, easily one of the best values to get started with smart lighting!

This is our first step into "smart light bulbs." I decided we didn't need bulbs that change hue, and I didn't want to spend a ton on the "smartness" functionality. The Sengled 3-pack w/ hub seemed like a great place to start. Having only owned these bulbs for a week, I cannot talk to their longevity but so far they seem just fine. It felt like they weren't quite as bright as some of our other LEDs but nonetheless, they were bright enough when set to "full power." [It seems like there is little consistency across all brands of LED when it comes to lumens. I might be overcritical on my assumption of brightness with the Sengled bulb.] Owning only 3 Sengled bulbs, I cannot talk to the claim that you can hook up to 64 bulbs to a hub, but the setup process was fairly simple. I did find it odd that I had to use a network cable to configure a wifi device...and I found the instructions with the packaging to be a bit "brief" but nonetheless, it was essentially a 5 step process that took only a few minutes to configure. Once I had my hub online I removed it from the router and placed it elsewhere in the house. Everything still worked! [Hub distance to farthest bulb is about 2 rooms away on the same floor, drywall construction.] I do wish the hub had USB power input instead of a proprietary pin adapter. The proprietary power source is the main reason I took away a rating star. One mistake I made was putting a Sengled smart bulb in a frequently used side-table lamp. Our family is not quite used to voice commands or cell phones to activate lights. This particular side table lamp is best controlled by hand, not phone/Alexa/Google. We will be moving that bulb to a lesser used lamp eventually. Where I see value in the smart bulb is with secondary lights that you may want to control automatically for mood or security lighting either by voice or by schedule. For example, we have a back patio light that we want to have on at about 50% brightness most nights. A smart bulb on a schedule is perfect for that. When watching a movie we have a lamp opposite the TV that can provide "mood lighting" at 25% brightness so it is convenient to say "Hey Google, turn on the movie lamp at 25% brightness." A feature that these bulbs do not have, that I wish they did, was some form of "motion sensor." For example, it would be nice if there was a way for the app/bulb to detect me pulling into the garage at night and automatically turning on the kitchen light. [Not sure if that technology exists with any smart bulb/app, though. Maybe through a tool like IFTTT?] As for the "Hey Google" or "Alexa" commands, we are Google people and I found it fairly easy to set up the device as part of the Google Home app so that we could use Google Assistant to control the lights. The built-in app is not exactly "feature rich" but has the tools you need to group lights in rooms, power individual or groups lights on/off, set dimming levels and schedule multiple on/off times. I was able to turn lights on/off from work which was cool (for me at least, maybe not for my wife who was wondering what was going on). The app has an easy to understand interface and will dim icons when lights are off, illuminate icons when lights are on--which helps you quickly identify on the phone what lights are turned on in the house. Overall, I am happy I chose to get smart home my toes wet with Sengled. They offer the right set of features for the right price in a simple to use starter pack. Add-on bulbs appear to be fairly inexpensive and are available through numerous online outlets. I hope they continue to add features without requiring us to replace or upgrade hubs...but if they do make us change the hub down the road, I hope they may the power plug USB compatible.

Great Choice for WiFi Lighting Control

As technology has evolved I have purchased a lot of different types of gadgets and devices. They all work (some better than others), but they don’t work seamlessly, and I am starting to have a menagerie of various Wi-Fi lighting controls like a mess that I had years ago when I started adding peripherals from various manufacturers to a wired desktop computer. I’ve been looking for a system where I could control numerous lights, incorporate timers, dimmers and create various lighting levels as needed for different functions and times of day; and do this for both inside and outside my home. The Sengled Element Classic seemed to be able to meet my smart home lighting desires especially since it can perform all these functions and control up to 64 bulbs through one hub. I started with the Sengled Element Classic with three A-19 pear shaped bulbs. Best Buys sells the hub with 3 classic bulbs as opposed to just 2 as offered by other dealers. The hub was very easy to pair with my router and the bulbs paired almost as quickly and easily as the hub. I initially set up the timers on each of the 3 bulbs and checked to see if I needed to do a firmware update. The next day one of the bulbs had fallen offline and then the hub fell off line too. I re-paired the hub and each of the bulbs as they all fell off line 2-3 more times over the course of 7-10 days. Everything seems to have stabilize since, and two more weeks has pass. The bulbs are presently dimmed and on timers. If the light bulb is switched to the “Off” position, then the app will show that the bulb is offline. However, as soon as the switch is turned to the “ON” position, the bulb is online again and does not have to be re-paired. I can control the lights with either the app or through Alexa. The hub can remain wired to the router or wirelessly connected and positioned away from the router. I will be purchasing more bulbs and different types in order to build onto this system. There are numerous possibilities with the dimmer control, the pre-set scenes and timers to create a very professional lighting design throughout my entire home-both inside and out. I'm giving this product 4 stars because there isn't an opportunity to give it 4.5 stars. I cannot give it 5 stars because there was this slight difficulty in pairing the hub and lights and having them remain paired and stay online. All said and done, this is a very good product and it does what it says that it does.

Solid smart bulbs with room for improvement

I was looking for smart bulbs for our bedroom lamps. We previously used smart plugs to handle them, but because I'd pieced our smart home setup based on what was on sale at the time, there were several different apps that controlled the 3 lamps in our room. What attracted me to try out the Sengled setup was that it came with 3 bulbs, so everything we'd need was in the box. Getting everything setup was a breeze. The hub was already set to recognize the bulbs that shipped with it so I didn't have to fight with each bulb to pair them. Interestingly enough, the Hub requires a physical connection to my router but looked to the wifi setup for the bulbs. What wasn't cool was that I was out of outlets near my router. What I did find though, was that since the hub's power cable ends with a USB-A dongle, I was able to power it using an open USB port on my router itself. The app does leave some room to be desired, on my iPhone X, I didn't know that I had to scroll down to find a save button that was hidden when I was setting my timers. Also, while the bulbs support dimming, they come right on when the timer turns them on, so there's no gentle ramping up. If you want a basic, easy to use smart bulb setup that works with Alexa, then you should check these out.

Nice little lighting kit. It comes with its control hub and 3 warm bulbs. Great way to start your smart home lightning. Setup was a breeze. All you have to do is connect the hub to a router via lan cable and download the ios/android app and follow the setup. Once done, you can use the app to turn the bulb on/off, you can also setup an automatic schedule, which was great for me. I like to leave my main door light on and sometimes I forget to turn it off, with this, I just set and schedule for it to turn off early morning, problem solved! You can also monitor your wattage/money spend!! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to save some money! Only con was the packaging, a little flimsy and it came pushed in, I'm glad the 3 bulbs survived the trip!

I wanted to get smart lighting for my room. They were all too easy to set up. Especially for someone that doesn’t have enough patience for something that seemed so tedious. These lights met all my needs. I have a dog that I keep in the room during the day while I’m away at work. I wanted affordable, but good lights that I could turn on with just a tap of a button from an app on my smart phone. The app is very user friendly and you can even schedule what time and day you need the bulbs to turn on or off. I can also adjust the brightness from the app for EACH bulb. I went as far as checking when the sun sets and created a schedule based on that. Now I won’t have to worry about my pup being in a dark room till I come home or leaving the lights on all day while I’m working. I have to say one downside and the reason for the 4-star review, I came home from work on 2 separate occasions and found the lights to just not be on. I’m not sure if it was an error on my part, something fishy with the WiFi or something else, but it just made me question how long my dog had been all alone in a dark room for. But other than that this product is totally worth it! Definitely a great purchase and I’m looking forward to buying more bulbs once I have a bigger and better place of my own.

This light bulb set up is breeze to use. It boils down to 2 areas for me. App set up and bulb use. The companion app to these bulbs is rock solid. It lets you pick room, lighting schedules, brightness... basically everything you would ever need to use around smart lighting. Pairing the hub and lights is breeze too. I set up entire 3 bulbs in 3 different locations in about 10 minutes. The bulbs and wifi hub are also very sturdy, i have seen other "smart: bulbs and they are as fragile as egg shells. Not these. Sturdy while pumping out superior light quality. All in all worth the buy due to app ease of use, app features and bulb design.

This smart bulb starter kit was very quick and easy to set up. The included instructions were clear and the Sengled app also gave step by step instructions. I first switched out the smart bulbs for my old light bulbs in my bathroom, then followed the steps in the app including plugging in the smart hub to my router and to an outlet. I love that I'm able to control the bulbs using either Alexa or Google assistant. Currently I'm using Alexa since I have an Echo Dot and a Ring Pro. It's very easy to control the lights from Alexa whether I'm home or away, which is great. It's also nice to be able to turn the lights off from the comfort of my bed. One of the best aspects is that the lights can be dimmed using Alexa, so in the morning I'm not blinding myself right after waking up. Then once my eyes have adjusted I can set the lights to be brighter. My only complaint is that I wish these lights allowed different types of white light settings such as soft white, natural white, etc. The Sengled app told me about those different settings, but when I tried to use them Alexa told me my lights are not compatible. One thing to note is that the physical light switch must always be on in order to control the lights with Alexa or Google. I made this mistake when I first got them and didn't understand why Alexa couldn't connect. I recommend taping the light switch to the on position to prevent others from accidentally switching it off. Another thing to note is that is light is categorized individually. So they will be listed as Bulb 1 and Bulb 2. In the app you can add them to a room, I added them to bathroom, and then can ask Alexa to "turn off bathroom lights". Though, if I want to quietly use the app without speaking my request I have to turn each bulb on/off individually or turn the whole room on/off. If you have other smart devices I recommend not adding them to the room so you can adjust multiple lights at once and not also affect the other smart devices. For example, I set up an Alexa plug in my bathroom attached to my hair straightener. If I wanted to turn on "bathroom" it would also turn on the straightener. In addition, sometimes when I asked Alexa to turn on the bathroom lights, for some reason the straightener was also turned on. I'm not sure if Google assistant also has this issue.

The Sengled Smart LED kit comes with 2 soft white bulbs and the Sengled Element Hub. The Element hub is a Zigbee based hub used to connect and control the bulbs, as well as allow Google Home or Amazon Alexa control. The hub also allows you to control the bulbs while you are away from home via the app. The bulbs are A19 (standard bulb shape and base), and are equivalent in brightness to 60W incandescent bulbs. The bulb life is rated to 25,000 hours (8.5 years of 8 hours a day, every day). This is my second Sengled kit – this one I bought for my mom and she set it up with no issues. Setting up the kit is a straightforward process. The Element Hub connects via ethernet (cable provided) to the router. She used the Sengled Home App for Android to connect to the hub. After that adding a bulb was pretty easy. The app lets you select the room it goes into, name it, and repeat. The Element Hub can configure and control 64 individual bulbs from across Sengled’s lineup. I have 13 connected in my house, and my mom has 6. Neither of us have had any issues. She used the bulbs mainly in lamps with twist switches. These didn’t have a wall switch to control them, so they were the ones she mostly wanted to automate. Within the app setting up timers and schedules is an easy process. For Google Home integration you add the Sengled skill to your profile. From there you can add the bulbs. You can rename the bulbs inside the Google Home app if you wish. You will use those names to control the lights. Overall the Sengled bulbs are great. The hub’s offsite control of the bulbs works really well. This is a good starter kit, and it saves a couple of bucks over piecing it together individually. Eventually you will realize how great it is to automate your lighting, and you will end up like me with only a couple lights left in my entire house that aren’t controllable.

Bought these after returning the GE CE Bulbs as those were too unstable I was undecided about getting smart bulbs with or without the hub I decided to try these with the hub to keep on my router unclogged. I am glad I did! They were easy to set up, stay connected, reasonably priced, and you can adjust the brightness. I will be picking more of these up to use around the house

If you are looking to just get into smart lighting this is a pretty inexpensive way into the smart family. These lights of course do not offer all the the cool and fun settings of the Phillips Hue of course but for a fair priced smart light its worth its weight. The App to control these is the biggest let down of the product the interface of the app needs some work but I will give them time sense they are a somewhat new company in the smart home family. If you do not have an Alexa, Google voice assistant I will tell you it is a bit annoying having to log into the app every single time you want to turn the lights off and on. If you already have one you will not have to deal with this but again I give it time for kinks to work out over all these lights are a definite entry into the smart home.

These lights are great!! I encourage everyone to give them a try. I was lucky to have found this starter pack bundled with an Eco Dot. Simple to install. Download the app, create an account, connect the hub to your router, and follow the steps on the app. I added 4 more bulbs by scanning the QR code on the new bulbs. It automatically added the bulbs info. Name the bulbs so that a voice activated device can identity, and control the lights. Convenient, and fun. Set schedules, or use any smart assistant app by adding your Sengled account. Alexa, Google home, they both work well. I had a connectivity issue when I had the hub wired to the router. Once I disconnected the hub, because it is wireless, and moved it away from the router the lights stay connected, and work perfectly!!

I saw these on sale, and grabbed them to add to my setup I already have. Very easy to se5 up, and they work with Alexa, which I have a few all throughout the apartment. I did have to go to YouTube to troubleshoot setting up on a lamp. If they don’t pair right away, it advises you to turn the switch on and off, nonstop for 10 times. That didn’t work so well in my lamp, so I took out the bulb in put it in my kitchen, which was much easier. Once the bulb was in, I was able to switch the light switch on and off 10x’s, and then paired the bulb no problem. You can find a few videos on YouTube to help troubleshoot in case this happens to you.

This particular set obviously only comes with bulbs that can alter their brightness level, but cannot alter color warmth or color spectrum. Given this, they have done their job well and I did not find the cost of this set to be offensive. There are other sets that, went on sale, provide much more value for a similar price. Needing a very basic set for technologically-challenged folks who needed more accessibility due to physical reasons, this set is perfect for voice commands through a Google Home Mini. Set up can be a pain in the butt, however navigating the app and daily use are fairly easy.
