They sound quality is good. Great clarity not bass heavy at all. Keep this in mind: These are "open-back" headphones which means sound travels out of the headphones into your surroundings. People around you will be able to hear what you're listening to and you will be able to hear any noise come in from your surroundings.

What I want in a headphone is clean, natural sound without any coloration.I want a easily discernable highs, presence in the mid-range and clear non-muddy bass. Add in good looks and great comfort for long use. That's what I got with these Sennheisers. Wide open sound space thanks to their open back design.Meant more for indoor listening than outdoor use.

I've been looking at these headphones for a while now and the price was so low I couldn't resist. I have tons of headphones from over ear to bluetooth and in ear. I pretty much collect them, and my wife can't stand it, ha. Anyways theses are the clearest of all the headphones I own, and I have some high dollar cans such as the v-mods m100's, JBL Synchros, and so on. These don't have the bass the other headphones I own have, but they're a good change of pace and have very accurate sound. The Soundstage is amazing! They're very comfortable, and personally I like the way they look. Keep in mind they're for home use and not good for traveling, or using on the go. They're open back so they leak sound very bad. If you want a pair of high quality, high dollar headphones without having to pay an arm and a leg for these are the ones to get.

Had these headphones for a month and I get happier with them every day. The sound is very clear, detailed and big. This is what headphones are supposed to be. They are well made, look sweet, and are extremely comfortable. I highly recommend these to anyone.

You have to listen to these to appreciate the sound quality and depth of tone. Makes my Bose noise cancelling headphones sound 'cheap'!! Over ear design is very comfortable. Excellent head phones!

Compared to other headphones of the same price range, and some that are more expensive - you definitely get a great sound for the price! Crystal clear with full range - crisp highs, hearty mids, and beastly bass. Also using them for gaming, they have great directional sound as well - in short, an amazing all-around pair of headphones, for whatever you may want to use them for.

These are truly great headphones. Upgraded from senn 429s, wish I'd made the jump sooner. They're open-back so if you're in a noisy room it will impede sound quality.

I have a more expensive set of headphones which are noise cancelling. I thought they were very good and they are very good. With that in mind I am still hearing music through this set of headphones that I have never heard before. They are well padded and can be worn for hours.

These headphones are great entry level for audiophiles. Love the brightness in the upper notes and really shines with classical or vocals. At the current sale price (pricematched to Amazon $149) these are an unbeatable value.

Bought these headphones to watch tv and not disturb my wife. From the reviews I read I was really looking forward to getting them. They were very light and comfortable and for music they sounded good. Unfortunately with the dialog from movies and tv the voices sounded like a hollowed muffled sound. This was directly form the tv so I tried them thru my amplifier and got the same result. Headphones are very subjective and for me unfortunately these headphones did not work out.

A great set of cans. I use them mainly for gaming and music. These are so much better the my ASTRO A50s. I will never go back to a headset.

    Great Headphones for the money!

Been listening to my HD598's for a little over a month now and I must say that I'm impressed. You could say these are my first "audiophile" headphones coming from Polk's Buckle headphones. They have a very open airy sound stage, tight bass and overall good detail throughout. Best part is how comfortable they are! They are by far the most comfortable headphone I've ever owned. Can listen for hours with out getting fatigued. The one gripe I do have the the lack of accessories. Just recently picked up a set of Sennheiser's Momentum On ear's and they come with 2 cables, a soft case and a larger hard case for travel, and cost a fraction of what the HD598's do. I did end up getting the shorter cable direct from Sennheiser as the stock one is very long and gets in the way if you're just listening on your computer. Definitely a home use headphone. Despite these little issues I sure do enjoy them and think they are a great value for the price considering what is out there nowadays.

    Great for Home Use--Not portable

The audio quality on these is pretty darn good. The bass exists and is natural (in my opinion). It's not booming like some headphones, but it's not going to rattle your inner ear either. They are very comfortable and as mentioned in other reviews can be worn for hours without issues (I tend to spend 8+ hours a day at a computer listening to music and podcasts -- no problems wearing these). They're light too, which is a big deal for the comfort of wearing them for extended periods. As mentioned in other reviews, it comes with a 6.35mm plug (which is to be expected for a lot of higher-end headphones), but the plug is pretty big, especially when you attach the adapter down to 3.5mm. Combine this with the incredibly long cord that's included, it's not the most portable headphones. The plug is actually so large that I had to use a different adapter to get it to plug into one of my devices, because it wouldn't fit otherwise (it was too big in circumference). Overall, these are great for use at my desk, aren't horrible for use with my gaming laptop, but for on-the-go I will use something else. I might also eventually replace the cord with a shorter cord.

    Great mid level headphones

Headphone ratings are completely subjective when it comes to mid to high end audio. When someone tells you they like a pair of headphones because they like this and that. Try to remember that if you don't share their feelings...you won't like how the headphones sound. These are excellent when it comes to listening to natural sound. For me, the mid to high end bass was sharp and clear with just enough punch. The mid-range is where these are absolutely excellent. The highs were bright but crisp and clear. Vocals and dialogue were also well represented. This is an open back headphone so you will have a full sound stage when it comes to your listening experience. Air can go in and out. This is what gives it a natural open sound rather than closed backs which isolate only what you're playing. If you are around people they will think you are blasting music even if you have a normal volume. All they hear is faint and muffled sounds of course. And yes, you can hear them if they are loud enough. This is purely personal preference. I have a pair of each so it depends what you're listening to. If you enjoy the thump and distortion of the low end deep bass then stay away. These cans are meant for range and clarity. They are also best when plugged into your amp/receiver. This would explain the 1/4 inch plug on the 10 foot cord. It comes with a 1/8" adapter. I purchased the 6 foot 1/8" cable direct from the company as the cable is detachable. I mostly use these for all music and drama and comedies. I switch to the closed backs on action movies. That doesn't mean they sound terrible with action movies. They actually do a great job. I just prefer to use a different set. Construction is solid and strong. Ear cups are very comfortable I didn't start to feel any discomfort until after 5 hours of continual use. This use to be almost $300 when it first came out but if you can find them now they are a bargain.
