They are really light and comfy to wear. Like others have said the sound is amazing but the lack of bass and overall soft sound quality leave a little to be desired.

These are by far the the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn. I tend to forget they are even on at times. The sound quality is fantastic at the price point.
While some users complain about a lack of bass, I don't have that problem. I dislike headphones like the Beats because of the their overabundance of bass. These are perfectly balanced in my humble opinion.

These are great headphones, everything is so crisp and clear. No headphones I have ever heard compare. The price is quite a bit but you get what you pay for. Not only are these great for music but gaming, I have the turtle beach x41's and they have a plug for headphones, and these are 10 times better than the turtle beach's. Excellent headphones, cant say enough good about them, but there is one con, the adapter, the thing is about 3 inches total so listening with an iphone or ipod is not very pleasant but overall great product!

Good, but With One Important Compromise

These go on sale in the $150 to $160 range, and I ordered them from Best Buy while on sale. For the money, they are excellent headphones, but at this price level, you can expect at least one compromise, but it is a serious one for many.
First, the clarity, smoothness, sound stage, detail, etc, is excellent. Many say no other set of headphones for less than $300 comes close. But, about that compromise... Bass, while detailed, is rather weak. There is no sub-bass to speak of, so things like bass drums and orchestral hits just don't have any punch. This seems to be an issue with open backed headphones, but these seem worse than most others.
Also, there is only one cable, and it has a 1/4" end. With the supplied 1/4" to 1/8" adapter attached, the end is long and cumbersome when connected to small devices. I bought a complete cord assembly that terminates with a 1/8" end on eBay for $20. It works fine.
If you care about high fidelity, and can live with the lack of bass, these do sound great. If you listen to music that relies on bass punch, these are not going to please you. If you listen to classical, you'll likely love them, considering the price.

Amazing for the money

Price wise compare these to any of the beats headphones.
Much more detail and way better sound quality, and bass that sounds like it's supposed to. Doesn't dominate the mix like the beats are EQ'd to.
Very comfortable and light.

Best headphones under $500

These headphones are fantastic. Best headphones for the money IMO. Keep in mind that these are open air headphones..that is, anyone around you will likely hear your music if you have it loud. But the advantages of a huge sound stage far outweigh this con. These are headphones for the home, not the ideal portable set of cans.

First off, let me state something- these are the strangest cans that I have ever seen short of AT's wing designed headband. The color scheme is more appropriate for the inside of a Benz then on a pair of headphones. That said, they look COOL, MODERN, and CLASSY.
I own a pair of HD 650's, and these can directly compete with them- I prefer the sound of the 598's. The soundstage is a tad more expansive on the 650's, but it really isn't noticeable (unless you are listening for it). The music is upbeat, upfront and dynamic; a far cry from the 650's laid back, "last seat in the last row" sound.
These are open-backed, so expect a heck of a lot of sound leakage; you will want to pick a quiet spot to listen to these in. They are comfortable, though a little tight on the head. The cable is removable, which is a plus.
The ONLY concern I have is with the durability. The 650's are constructed of high-strength plastic and carbon fiber, whereas the 598's are vinyl and thin plastic. Don't sit on them, and they should last a lifetime.
All-in-all, these kick the sound out of ANY headphone in this price range, and (especially after amplification), will have you saying WOW! every time.

I was looking for a headphone for watching TV with and from the reviews i read these looked like a real bargain. They were extremely comfortable and sound good with music. When I used them for watching TV the voices sounded a bit hollow or muffled. It could be my setup it is hard to tell.I think the might be more for gaming.

Congested was a review word that says it all.
Bass had a flatness like it never finished producing the bass note peaks. (congested)
The low end of voices seem to touch this flattness as well.
A quarter inch plug with a adapter? It should have been a iPod sized plug with a adapter for the big stereo.
Nice packaging. No warrany card.. No instruction manual in English and German.
Back to Best Buy they went !!!
Best Buy accepted them back and refunded the purchase price.
No hassle at all. Good service!
