Sounds Great, Needs HDMI

I am going to make this short and sweet. First, they sound amazing and work almost all around my house. The bass and highs are top notch.
Here is what makes me not like them for the price, connectivity, plain and simple. The unit only has an optical and RCA inputs. At this price point, it needs a HDMI, period.
They are nice, but I am just not digging the HDMI missing

Great Sound for Music, Good Sound for TV

I wanted a wireless headset solution for my TV and Stereo. I compared the sound of the RS 175 (closed back), RS 185 (open back) and RS 195 (closed back). I was listening to some jazz Best Buy had piped in from an IPod. For me, the 185 had, by far, the richest sound. The bass for the music was good, but the midrange and high pitch sounds were fantastic. Very crisp, and much better than any bluetooth headset I ever tried.
I have a yamaha RX-V679 AV receiver and hooked the headset to the second zone. When I listen to any music source (air play, internet radio, etc), sound is great. However, when listening to a movie, the sound is just very good. I'll attribute the quality difference to the source, but I do wish they had a bass boost option.
My main gripe (which is why I gave it a 3 instead of a 4 or 5, was with the Power Supply. My first one was dead out of the box, wouldn't power on. Took it back to the store and Magnolia tech confirmed it was the power supply, and ordered a replacement system. I came back two days later, picked up my replacement, brought it home, and AGAIN, DEAD OUT OF THE BOX. Brought it back to Best Buy again, and the salesman gave me the power supply from the floor demo unit. Now everything works great.
Sennheiser needs to do a better QA job, and get a new manufacturer for their power supplies!

I'm using these headphones with my pc for gaming and videos. Setup was easy; simply plug in the necessary cords and charge the headphones on the stand. I like the headphone material which is soft to touch. I have experienced some discomfort on my ears after prolonged periods of use, but that seems to be typical for other headsets I've used. These headphones warrant the higher price because the sound is that good and the wireless range is great. Controls for balance are convenient and customizable for hearing needs. The charge lasts for a significant period of time and I've never had an issue with charge time running out during use.

After reading many reviews of the RS 185, sadly, they didn't perform as I had hoped. The sound quality of my Sennheiser RS 120 headphones is far superior.

Decent HeadPhones

Let me start off by saying that the Senheiser RS 185 are wireless headphones which does not employ Bluetooth technology, therefore they must be used inside the confines of your home in conjunction with its supplied "dock".
In the short run, these headphones were comfortable to wear. For longer usage I felt "hot and sweaty" and they felt tight when used for viewing a long movie. They are not meant to be noise cancelling and if you have children, or people mulling around your home engaged in conversation these are not for you. You may very well hear background noises and be distracted.
For me, headphone controls were cumbersome to use/find when they were on-top your head. Many times I had to remove the set to adjust a control which was somewhat annoying.
Sound quality was adequate, but the bass was a little on the short side. This is not a deal-breaker, but I would recommend listening to "static-displays" of differing brands in an effort to compare models and make an informed choice.
On the whole the Senheiser is a fairly decent set of headphones which worked as advertised. I encountered no glitches.

Expected More For The Money and Sennheiser

Had a 180 for 3 years and it all of a sudden started cutting in and out so I went to the 185. I returned my first set because it wouldn't keep a charge. Base unit showed green and the charge would last 5 minutes. Other times, charge would last hours.. Now my second 185 has the same issues; maybe Magnolia got a bad batch,.... plus the dialog enhance level doesn't work using the optical connection, but does with RCA. So, why pay more for a feature that I can't use unless I hook up RCA cables which I shouldn't have too. I'm now taking THIS one back and going with the 175 because of the surround and base boost. Stay tuned

I'm an Audiophile - and I'm SOLD!

These headphones rock! The sound is beautiful, with a strong bass that extends into subwoofer territory, lush mids and sparkling highs. All this from a wireless speaker! The RS 185s allow you to listen to your entire home theater system in audiophile-quality privacy! The open-back headphones sound sooooo good. And this comes from a guy who listens to Senn 650s, Senn 660s, Denon AH-D7000s, HiFi Man HE400is, and so on. (OK, so they're all better than these. But, the RS 185s hold their own!) All you need to do is find a digital optical out, an RCA line out, or even a headphone output and hook 'em up. You will love these, whether you're listening to music, television or movies. I plan to buy another set for another house. Sennheiser - thank you!

Excellent Headphones for TV, Movies and Music

The Sennheiser RS185 provides an excellent solution to the issue that I'm sure many of us have from time to time. You want to watch TV or a move, or simply listen to music while someone else wants to sleep or simply not be interrupted by what you're doing. The RS185 provides an excellent solution to this and I'm now able to watch TV at night without keeping my wife awake. The sound quality is good although like other reviewers have said, you'll really experience the depth of sound when listening to music and not necessarily while watching TV. That said, that's more about the input source than it is the headphones themselves. The RS185 provides a base that acts as the transmitter for the headphones and the base also acts as the charger. The range within the specifications is listed as 328 feet or 100 meters although many reviewers have experienced different results. It's likely though that the layout and materials used to build your home may affect this. In my case though the headphones are able to solve the main issue, watching TV or listening to music while my wife and children are sleeping. If you are also looking for headphones to solve this issue then I'd recommend checking these out.

Great sound, comfortably sits over the ear. There are some downsides, one of it is kind of major set back for my use.
Pros I can say about Sennheiser RS 185:
+ Great sound
+ Comfort fit
+ RF (only) transmission with great range.
+ Dual input option
Cons:
- Optical input is pretty much useless unless you want to listen to your device privately all the time. Optical input only accepts "stereo" or "PCM" signals from your TV/Other devices. This means, if you plan to connect your device back to a receiver or sound bar and wants your 5.1 output back, you have to navigate to your device settings and make necessary changes there, yes every time! This is a big No No option for me. This is the sole reason I took 2 stars out. For a headphone that works only on RF (no BT) and accepts optical connection which costs about $400 should have an audio converter built in, period!
No, I would not recommend if you plan to use with optical connection, RCA, yes!

I have had a lot of headphones in my life and these are the most comfortable headphones I have ever had. Very long sessions with these on are no issue as they don't put a bunch of extra pressure on your head and the ear cups are nice and comfortable. My only gripe might be that because they are open back they lack just a little on the low end, but they make up for that with great mids and highs. Overall very good sounding and comfortable headset.

Buyer Beware

First the bad news, I did not listen to other reviews and bought these to replace my Sony wireless headphones of 15 years and sure enough they work fine with tv & dvd but will not work with Netflix or Amazon prime without a adapter ( Orei Da 34 ) from amazon. Now my 15 year old ones work fine out of the optical digital out of my Panasonic Viera tv in all phases but not these headphones. It seams to me that new electronics should work in 2019 with anything but I guess every company is going cheap these days. I hope the adapter works for me but I shouldn't have to pay another $50 to make these work with my only 5 year old tv. Now for the good news, They are pretty comfortable and I even heard some dialoque from a dvd that I've watched many times that I never heard before so that's a plus and the ear pads are replacable ( $22 ) which is good. If it doesn't work out I will be returning everything and start over.

I like that you can listen to tv/ play games without disrupting the house. The bad is the sound quality for the money is just ok. I get better sound from my bose bluetooh ear buds.

My RS185 headphones met all my expectations, and confirmed all the positive reviews I had previously read online. The audio clarity of television is so much better that my wife and I scramble to see who gets to use the Sennheiser. Time to buy a 2nd headphones!
