This Shark 4 Air purifier is suitable for a room up to about 350sq feet, although that probably depends on the particle size your trying to filter. This filter can deal with fairly large particles (PM10 like Pollen & Dander) and much smaller particles like smoke (PM2.5). The air filter has 4 separate fans to move adequate amounts of air. The fans operate at 4 separate speeds, the lowest two being nearly completely quite, on 3 there is a barely noticeable background noise, and max which you can clearly hear running. This Air cleaner has a sensor that measures particle sizes to tell you how clean your air is. You can use this to tell the unit to run until the air is a certain level of clean, or for 3 specified amounts of time. In auto mode it will change the operating speed to match the setting you've selected (kind of a cool options, I've not seen before, it runs at full until it detects the air is clean enough then "idles down" decreasing the fan speed/noise. The filter is specified to to be used for 4400 hours (about 6mo continuously) it is a true HEPA filter that can be dusted off, but not really "cleaned" by the user (I wish there was a real washable first layer). The filter fits very tightly but is easy to access and remove. I'm sure it available from Shark online, but I've not seen is else where yet.. The unit is very attractive. It clearly displays what it is doing on the front and top, the good news is the display can be set to bright, dim and off (if your going to use this in a bedroom you will want the display off!). The 3 timers can also be used to quite the unit at night. But the auto feature is what makes this a really smart air purifier. I forgot to mention it also has a remote that handles all functions so you can easily adjust the unit from across the room. I should mention the unit clearly states that the rear of the unit (sucking side) should be placed at least 3" from a well, this certainly makes sense as restricting the airflow in would greatly diminish the units efficiency. For what it does, the unit seems very effective, I like it.

My overall opinion about this expensive air purifier is just my opinion. I had to purchase it because my apartment flooded and I have mold. So I needed to make sure that I was in good health after my apartment was renovated to make sure things were done correctly. This also let me know that I was in good hands so a bit expensive but for a good cause. The filters are also expensive but hopefully will not need as often

============================== >>>>> Bottom Line Up front: <<<<< ============================== The Shark Air Purifier 4 performs does an outstanding job keeping your air clean and odor free. In the time I have been using it; it has handled everything from common cooking odors, pet dander, and even cleaning/clearing out built up smoke from indoor grilling – all at the touch button. The large, easily accessible HEPA filter cartridge is very easy to replace and all of the physical controls are well thought out and easy to read from across a distance. While there are some areas for Shark to improve on, the Air Purifier 4 should be high on your list if you’re looking to get excellent performance and usability – without an astronomical price tag. ================================== >>>>> My detailed thoughts: <<<<< ================================== - Overall Design/Aesthetics: - ========================= I really dig the modern looking exterior shell and dual colorized digital displays. Honestly, it kind of reminds me of a certain popular Pixar character that was also sent to help clean the earth in the future – only now she is now in “Air Purifier” form. Thanks to the reasonable physical size and human readable font of the front display, I had no issues reading the information clear across a room. As much as I liked looking at the exterior, I was also a little worried how the shiny/glossy exterior might hold up over time/and “life” as my 3 kids and 2 dogs will undoubtedly knock it over or scratch it up/mark it up in no time – but so far it has help up well in t hat regard. The unit is lighter than it appears in my opinion, making it super easy to move around, but I guess I was hoping for a little more substantial feeling weight to the design to help reduce tip overs/bump overs as I just mentioned. I also appreciated the built-in carrying handles that are inset along the easier for even easier portability from room to room. Side note, I was not a fan of the super low quality packing tape to secure the power cord to the bottom of the unit for shipping – as is left a nice “oily” tape residue that proceeded to pick up loose hair and dirt on it until I just washed it off with some “goo gone”. - Ease of Use/User Interface/Remote Control: - ====================================== Shark literally “crushed it” here. The Air Purifier 4 was dead simple to use – set and forget it. You only have recall/remember 3 common sense colors – Blue (good), Yellow (not so good, Red (bad) – to quickly determine the quality of the air around you. The icons and menu functions on the top/main control panel were simple, appropriately sized and easy to understand without any kind of major learning curve to get going. The controls are “touch pad” styled, and were super responsive and never froze at any time. The “Auto” setting did a remarkable job of automatically adjusting the fan speed to tackle whatever I was throwing at it, and I never really had to mess with it once I set it up in the corner/room I wanted and turned it to auto. The remote is simple, lightweight and easy to use (a recurring theme here); perhaps a little "too lightweight" - but it serves its purpose. You can access all the major functions and features effortless across all the rooms I tested it out in. If I could improve on it, I would have appreciated a backlight style unit that more closely matched the nice large digital readout on the main unit. - Airflow/Performance: - ===================== The HEPA filter is a decent size and is super easy to access/service. The whole assembly is held in by plastic clips, and the filter easily maintains a nice, firm, even seal all the way around the filter housing perimeter when installed properly. Obviously, the higher the fan setting, the notably higher airflow performance I noted -> however at the higher settings, you’ll definitely hear more “audible” background “fan” noise. I wouldn’t say the “fan” noise is unbearable or obtrusive, but still important to note (as with any fan-based system) – you will hear noise at the highest settings. I never used it in any rooms larger than 14x12, and it never skipped a beat. Obviously, your performance results may vary from mine based on various factors, but I can honestly say this should comfortably cover most medium sized rooms or smaller The Air Purifier 4’s purified air exits out the side mounted exhaust/output fans located along the sides of the unit, and did an excellent job of handling the task of clearing out and cleaning the air in whatever room I was using it in. In my kitchen, it took on cooking stir fry vegetables in a wok – using an indoor electric grill: no problem. Most importantly, it really made a difference in significantly lowering the animal dander when I had family over. One particular family member almost always gets hits with itchy eyes, sneezing, etc – within the first 10 mins of entering our house (I have 2 high shed dogs). With the Air Purifier 4 running, that sane family member actually commented on how they notably felt better and was actually able to spend more time over due the increased air quality that the Air Purifier 4 was putting out. If I had one constructive issue to address, is that the side exhaust fans are fixed and non-adjustable. Since this is a non-oscillating unit, you have to take into consideration what direction you are going to place the unit in the room, relative to the intake and output fans. By that I mean, if you place this unit flush/close to a side wall, you may experience significantly reduced airflow or noise. It would be nice to have “automotive” style adjustment fins or dials to just add a little more flexibility in how/where the exhaust air could be directed. ========================== >>>>> Closing thoughts: <<<<< ========================== I have always regarded Shark as brand that gives you “a lot” of well-designed cutting edge (read: “trending”) tech and appliances with good quality at reasonable prices. The Air Purifier 4 continues on that legacy by delivering where it counts most: performance for the price. You’ll often find similar purification tech and performance on units like these from brands – but they more than likely cost significantly more> Shark has distilled down what you need in a HEPA air purification system into this extremely portable and aesthetically pleasing unit. As an added bonus, they made it dead simple to use and maintain. If I had any recommendation to make to shark, I would probably try to find a way to engineer/build in air flow direction control/vents for the purified “exhaust” fans. It also important to remember to factor filter replacement cost into your buying decisions, and while I am not certain what cost that may amount to in the long run, I don’t think you’d be disappointed with this unit if your in the market for air purification system.

Shark Air Purifier 4 is a standing floor-based purifier that distributes air through 4 fans and uses clean sense IQ technology to track quality of air. It uses a HEPA filter that captures dust, dander, allergens and micro particles of 0.3 microns or larger. Air quality is usually measured by particulate matter (PM) in the air and this purifier tracks 3 sizes. PM1.0, PM 2.5 and PM 10 which is very impressive where it captures odors too. What is the box: Shark Air Purifier 4(white), Remote, HEPA Filter. Installation and setup are very simple. Just remove the unit from box, remove the plastic from filter on the back. On the back there are 2 quick release latch that needs to be opened for attaching the filter. Just attach and close the filter door. Plug in the unit. It takes few minutes for the unit to calibrate for first time. You can use the remote or the menu on the unit for various settings. Touch control menu in color with different options to view in a quick glance is a great feature. There are 3 options to select for quick view. Air info, Auto Mode, Filter life. Features and the design is very institutive for quick access. Also, there are 2 display one on the top and on the front in color. You can increase or decrease or completely turn off the display brightness by hitting the button on the remote or on the control panel. Also, another great feature is the timer function where you can set it for different hours to run. Its very quiet when set in Auto mode where it automatically adjusts the fan speed depending on the air quality. Remote is very slim and curved on both top and bottom. It has got a big power button, Auto, brightness, info, fan increase or decrease control, timer button and works great with no issues. Display on the unit is piano finish and is a fingerprint magnet and requires cleaning if you want to look great. Pros: Attractive Sleek design and features Quite operation Timer function Remote Ease of operation 99.97% air purification with odor elimination. Cons: Filter cost (expensive – you can choose to get different filters from the website. Cheapest is $70 and goes up to $90 for anti-allergen HEPA filter with advanced odor & fumes lock). Overall, its an awesome air purifier with odor lock, nice slim design. Works well and will not disappoint if you are looking for fresh pure air at home.

Sensor not accurate. Has stayed either 65 or 66% air quality with 15 minutes to clean for days when running on high 24/7. Changing location, cooking, resetting, ect, does not change it. If you’re going to spend this kind of money buy one that actually works as it states it does. And of course it is just past the return window so I cannot take it back.

Very disappointed. I live in a very dusty area with 2 dogs and also have a fridge I'm getting rid of while redoing the kitchen and I just discovered mold it has when I opened the doors to see if air purifier would pick up the musty smell if any thing that an old fridge has. Nope. The air purifier insist the air quality is 100% clean even though it's right next to it and with the fridge door wide open & smells disgusting. Going back ASAP. In addition to that I had initially put this somewhere else but didn't trust the 100% reading since it was that way from the moment it turned on. I also did a reset on the air filter button since I read to do so and nope. No change. I love my shark vacuum but this thing is a big time loser!

GREAT QUALITY LARGE ROOM AIR PURIFIER

GREAT QUALITY LARGE ROOM AIR PURIFIER SHARK AIRFINITY 4 AIR PURIFIER FAN Best Buy Tech Insider Network REVIEW: We are big “SHARK” fans around this household and the SHARK AIRFINITY 4 AIR PURIFIER FAN is no exception. The build quality is top notch and it is dead easy to operation. On top of that it does a good job and is on the quiet side of room air purifier. I assume this is due primarily to the large size for increased airflow. It is about 50% quieter than other air purifiers I’ve owned. PRO’s - Build in Color Screen Control Panel - No Fussy Apps to mess with. A simple remote and large display - In the range of 20-40db which is about 50% less than many others. - Easy to get to filters to clean / replace - Long power cord SETUP To setup the SHARK AIRFINITY 4 AIR PURIFIER FAN, basically pull it out of the box and remove the plastic from the filter and turn it on. Unlike other air purifiers I have used, you don’t have to fuss around with complicated poorly designed phone apps to run the unit. For me this is a big plus. I don’t need every appliance in my house to be “connected”. TESTING I have 2 different and very sensitive air quality meters that I use when deciding on an air purifier. Both showed a substantial reduction in fine particulate matter in the air. Keeping in mind my readings are low to begin with because I use filters and air cleaners, this brought down about 60% (from ~10 ppm to 4 ppm). This was in a 11x11 foot room after a few hours of use. I have a relative with high dust allergies, so I’ll be moving the SHARK AIRFINITY 4 AIR PURIFIER FAN around the house after I stir up dust while cleaning for father’s day. RECOMMENDATION The SHARK AIRFINITY 4 AIR PURIFIER FAN is large (check package dimensions), but that also enables it to do its job with less volume. It is very stylish and I would have no problems using this in any room or office. I fully recommend it.

So not only does this purifier capture the majority of air contaminants, it does so with surprising range, all while managing to be relatively quiet. Cooking smells, pet odor, candles, everything it came up against it did amazingly well on. I tested this out in a few different scenarios and I can say that it performs great. I ran it in the dining area while cooking and baking more than once and each time it captured most if not all of the various food smells that tend to travel around the home. We don't have great ventilation in the kitchen and are dependent on the above range fan to capture everything and it mostly does a poor to average job to capture odor. This unit renders that fan irrelevant. It handled garlic, onions, and every hard smelling spice or cooking smell. Another test i ran was, I lit a scented candle on a corner shelf and placed this unit a few feet in front of it. It was like a invisible wall existed between the purifier. One side had all the rich smells of flavor and the other, barely a hint of an odor. Just for good measure I sprayed scented Febreze around the furniture and hopped in the shower for a quick rinse. When I came back to check how it did (approx 10 minutes or so) I couldn't detect any aroma in the air. They only was I could tell I had sprayed any Febreze at all was to directly smell the furniture. It cleans well and it does so without making much noise. On max fan speed its quieter than the air conditioning and much quieter than the cooking fan on max speed. The sensors are very accurate and gives lots of information on what type of contaminants its picking up/cleaning. Particle size will tell you what it's picking up. Small dust or pollen all the way to large visible smoke streams. Candle smoke in my case. I trust this unit on full auto to be smart enough to get the job done. It may take a while sometimes. In one baking test I left cookies in a bit too long and the display said 0% air quality 90 minutes to 100% clean and it was right. It could have cleaned quicker if I left it running on max settings but the auto setting used max speed up until around 50% air quality before choosing to run a lower speed. A very impressive tool in the fight against odor. With the almost set it and forget it type of convenience.

Where we live, we’ve been getting more and more poor air quality alerts in our area, and this year our seasonal allergies were the worst they’ve been in a long time. In an attempt to combat this, we’ve decided to use air purifiers inside our home in the rooms where we spend the most time. The Shark HE401 air purifier was a great fit for our downstairs living room because it is an open floor plan flowing into the dining room and the kitchen, so the space is medium to large, at around 400 sq/ft. The machine itself is constructed using a lightweight plastic and is about the size of an 11 gallon trash can at 2’ tall, 17” wide, and 6” thick. It sits on a small plastic base with 4 rubberized feet for stability. The unit weighs just 17 pounds and is easy to lift and move around using the recessed handles on the sides. It comes pre-installed with a Shark HEPA filter w/odor locking carbon particles, however, you do need to unwrap the plastic on the filter before first use. On top is a glossy integrated display with touch controls that illuminate when the unit is powered on, and invisible when the unit is off, except for the power icon which is displayed as long as it is plugged in. At the touch of a button, you can adjust the speed of the fans, which have 4 levels, the amount of time the air purifier runs for: from 1 to 12 hours, the display’s brightness: high, low, or off, view air quality metrics, view the remaining filter life, or set the unit to ‘auto’ mode which uses Clean Sense IQ to detect air quality and continuously adjust the settings to remove the current level of air contaminants. I will say that the controls are pretty sensitive though and will activate with the slightest touch, which is a bit troublesome when cleaning/wiping the display on top. Also, adjusting the fan speed manually while in auto mode will cause the machine to exit that mode. The unit includes a remote control for all the same functions on the touch-control panel. The remote works well from a distance of up to 15 feet away, but the battery bay on the back requires a mini screwdriver to remove the screw securing the door, which is a bit annoying. Note that this is not a smart device and does not have any features that allow it to pair wirelessly to other devices, for example, through the use of Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, so it cannot be controlled using a mobile device or iot AI Voice Assistant. That also means that you won’t have access to historical data since it would not be recorded or tracked anywhere. The display on top will tell you information such as current air quality (as a percentage of “cleanliness” based on the number of particles detected in the air), fan speed, remaining time to reach 100% clean air, air pollutant levels of PM2.5, which are small particles like smoke and bacteria, and PM10, which are larger particles like pollen, dust, and mold. This air info is also displayed on an LCD on the front of the machine with a similar layout to the LCD on top. The unit draws in air from the rear through the filter using four fans to equally distribute airflow over the entire filter’s surface area. You should leave a foot or two of space behind the unit so that it can achieve proper airflow. When the filter door is opened the unit automatically turns off to prevent accidental damage or injury to or from the fans. The filter is easily removed using the attached fabric pull tabs and should be replaced every 6 to 12 months depending on usage and performance. There is a filter life function that will display on the LCD the remaining life of the filter; the default lifespan for a new filter is 4400 hours, which is equivalent to 6 months. Filtered air exits the purifier from both sides of the machine. At the lowest fan speed, it is very quiet and nearly silent. The noise level will increase with each increment of the fan speed, and at the highest level of four, the noise from the unit is equivalent to that of a window box fan. I like that the display can be dimmed and even turned off for use in a bedroom at night and since it is very quiet, does not produce any noise or light pollution that could interrupt your sleep. You can even set the auto shut off timer if you want the unit to stop operating after some time. In using this air purifier in proximity to the kitchen, I noted that the air quality sensors did show a predictable and appropriate increase in PM2.5 and PM10 particles detected during and after cooking, as well as when vacuuming, which tends to kick up a lot of dust particles. I was also happy to see these levels drop over time while running the air filter, and on the highest speed, the air filter was able to clear the room of a majority of airborne pollutants and odors within an hour or two after cooking or cleaning. What this unit doesn’t show you, though, are the VOC levels (volatile organic compound) which are chemical molecules released from furniture, flooring, and during other activities like cleaning and painting. While you can’t monitor VOC levels, you can still install the HEPA w/odor and fumes lock filter which would also help reduce VOC contaminants in the air as well. All three of Shark’s HEPA filters are compatible with this unit including the plain HEPA filter. Overall, whether we’re using this unit in the bedroom, the kitchen, or other living space, we feel that the air is cleaner and fresher, and we experience less sneezing and irritation indoors even on days when the air quality in our area is not good. Maintenance of the unit is easy and straightforward, and when set to auto mode, we can breathe easier knowing that the air inside our home is being continuously scrubbed of pollutants and allergens to protect our health and well-being.

This air purifier is easily the best one we've had for several reasons. - The air quality monitor displays on the front so you can see exactly where your air quality is. - Little to no noise; quiet as a mouse - Remote control assistance Past air purifiers were well heard in the house, and we really couldn't tell what it was doing or not doing. For the most part, my air quality stays at 100% but it has periodically made its way down to as low as 67%. It took around 30-45mins to get the air quality back up to 100% so definitely doing its job. Plus, it gives an alert if the filter needs to be changed, as well as a website where we can have air filters on auto replenish. This is our new air purifying brand for sure!

Bought this for my father-in-law who has COPD. I tried it out first at my house and it really does an excellent job. It looks and operates like "high-tech" equipment but it was easy to learn to use--I wanted my father-in-law to be able to manipulate the controls with minimal effort, and he can. The replaceable filter was super easy to install (and consequently will be easy to replace). On the display, it will tell you how many hours' operation is left before you need to replace the filter. The display also shows the percentage that it senses the air is clean; the purifier can be set to automatically turn on or off depending on the amount of percentage the air is clean (so if the percentage is below 100% it will turn on and run until the percentage goes back up to 100%). It will also show the amounts of particulates in the air. When we tested in first in my home, we did some cooking and also painted kitchen cabinets (at separate times), then ran this purifier to get rid of the odors; in a nutshell, it absolutely worked. I also like that it has a remote control, and it is also pretty light--not that it can knocked over easily, but that it can be moved from room to room or place to place easily. My husband was a bit skeptical that these air purifiers really work, but this one was able to convince him. My father-in-law also reports after about a month of usage, that it does indeed work for him as well.

This item works great and it is super quiet. It is bigger than I expected, but it is slim and looks good sitting in any room. It has a nice, simple design and the auto feature works great for it to run when it needs to. When I am cooking, it kicks on to get the smoke out of the air. When it kicks on, I can hear it when it goes to high, but it’s not overly loud or annoying at all. It is a subtle sound and kicks down to low shortly after going to high and the low speed is very quiet. I definitely notice a difference with the dust and dog hair in the air.

These are great. Love that it displays the percentage of air quality. Also keeps up with the life of the filter and let's you know when to change. Also can set up a timer when u would like for this to turn on/off. Purchased 2 of these for the home. Roughly covers about 1000 Sq footage. So I have one upstairs and the other in a bedroom and they work really well.
