We currently own another "top" brand competing vacuum cleaner and really did not expect this Shark vacuum to come anywhere near it, especially given this Shark retails for half the price. Well, we were in for a pleasant surprise! This came just before the weekend. I think my wife squealed a little inside when it arrived, LOL. We LOVE our other vacuum, but wanted to have a 2nd one as backup and that was a little smaller that our existing one. We unboxed it and were really excited, just from the overall quality of it! We were even able to fully assemble it without the use of the instruction manual. Everything feels very sturdy and well-built. Even though most of it is made of out plastic, it's a really durable, hard plastic that has a great design and feel to it, as well as how everything is edged off and accented. My wife and I both tried this vacuum and we can't find any real complaints with it, as far as the vacuum itself goes. This thing has more suction than our other, much bigger vacuum cleaner. Granted, this is smaller, a little more compact and has less floor coverage (width), but it definitely seems to take up a lot more out of the carpet! I love that there are 3 modes - Hard Floor, Carpet/Low Pile and Thick Carpet/Area rug. For the attachments, they all use the "Hard Floor" setting and you can really tell if it's not on the right setting. Switch it to Hard Floor and the results are amazing! Another thing we love, when using Hard Floor on well, hard floors, we noticed that it sucks up all dirt/dust/hair, etc, immediately and doesn't blow it back out or shuffle it around. This impressed us the most, as any vacuum we've ever used has almost done this to some degree. Not this one. This thing is also fully modular. The canister detaches from the main floor head and can be rolled around, taken to your car, used on stairs, etc, for easy cleaning. We have a part hound, part beagle dog who sheds WAY TOO MUCH. Our other vacuum, as great as it is, just couldn't fight this hair. We rarely let the dog on the furniture, but somehow, hair still makes it's way there - we had to resort to using expensive lint rollers. We tried the small upholstery attachment and, making sure it's on the "Hard Floor" setting, it did a great job. While it didn't remove ALL the hair, it got about 90% of it. Good enough for us. :-) Our only complaints, which really are minor and I wouldn't even go so far as calling them complaints, are: 1) The cord is a lot shorter than other vacuums we've used/owned. This isn't a deal breaker, as we have plenty of wall outlets. We just find ourselves plugging and unplugging to move the cord more often than our other vacuum. 2) The canister. It's really small. If you look at the picture, you can get a good idea of the size of it. In reality, I think they could have made it a bit bigger. Simply looking at the vacuum from the front-on, it looks like a lot of wasted space above the canister. 3) The side of the vacuum, where the one attachment goes, is right beside the bottom cord hook. When wrapping the power cord between the bottom and top hook, the cord presses against the attachment itself. Also, as the dedicated ceiling fan cleaner of the house, I was really disheartened to see that none of the included attachments would work for ceiling fans and such. Our other vacuum has one that semi-works, but I've not yet found anything that works better than a wet towel and duster, lol. Maybe they will offer something like this as an accessory that can be purchased in the future? Outside of all this, however, we are REALLY happy with this vacuum. In fact, given the retail price, we would certainly recommend this over our other brand, even though it is smaller and takes a little longer to cover the same amount of space. Take care of this, keep it cleaned (canister, filter, etc) and it should last you forever! We cannot express how much we love this vacuum!

I’ve owned the Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away Speed with DuoClean for 2 days now and have put it to the test around my home. My house has a mix of hard floors and low pile carpeting. We have 2 dogs, one long-haired Border Collie and a short-haired Blue Heeler mix who both shed quite a bit. I typically vacuum the house 2-3 times per week and my previous vacuum is the Shark NV501, which I’ve owned for almost 2 years now. I wouldn’t normally have replaced my Shark NV501 if it weren’t for the opportunity to review their newest model. The Shark NV501 has been the best vacuum I’ve ever owned… until now. When Shark innovates and adds a new technology to something, they aren’t just adding a fancy new name to the product, they really are giving you something useful. The new DuoClean feature performs better than I was expecting. It pulls in the larger particles lying on the floor whereas other vacuums will often just push them further away from the vacuum until they are against the wall. No more tipping the vacuum back to suck in larger debris! I have a ficus tree that drops a lot of leaves and the DuoClean roller pulls them right up into the vacuum, it’s pretty cool because testing them side by side, the NV501 does tend to push the leaves around. Another benefit of the secondary roller is being able to vacuum right up to the wall, rather than needing to do a second pass along the edge or using a nozzle. I’ve found that it will pull in any particles and dog hair pushed into the edge much better than anything I’ve ever used. The design of this model is very user friendly, functional and looks great. Everything is labeled and all the parts click into place making it easy to assemble and clean. I really like that the top window panel of the head opens up allowing access to the rollers which both come out easily for cleaning. The bottom of the head has brushes around the back and sides of the roller area, preventing anything from escaping the suction. The LED headlights are bright and more uniform than my previous model, with little to no dark space on the carpet between beams. Another great feature is the bumper on the front of the vacuum. Along the front head there is a soft rubber bumper which I think this helps to protect the DuoClean roller but it also helps to prevent any damage to your furniture when bumping into it. The powered lift-away feature is great! The canister separates from the wand and head unit allowing you to reach far under furniture and into tight places, while still using the power of the rotating brushes on the head. The change between functions is fast and easy and the vacuum can stay on while changing. Holding the canister in your hand while vacuuming isn’t too bad but having the caddy would be great and at this price point I do think it should have been included. The head is a bit smaller than I am used to, about an inch and a half smaller than my previous vacuum and I wish the canister capacity was a bit more but I think the Speed models are meant to be more lightweight and portable. I’m okay with that given all the other great features I’m getting plus I don’t really find myself having to empty it that much more frequently than before. The Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away Speed with DuoClean has surpassed all of my expectations, it’s fast and really pulls itself along the carpet. It’s thoughtfully designed and incorporates innovative features. I’m once again impressed with Sharks design and will recommend this product to friends.

I purchased this Shark with my own money, it was Not a gift so my review is honest and unbiased. I now own three Shark vacuums (Rotator Powered Lift Away XL and the Rocket Complete DuoClean) and this new Shark is like both of those combined in one vacuum. I Love the dual brushroll feature as you can vacuum any floor type or surface with ease and get it spotless clean, combined with the powered lift away design. This Shark is lightweight (similar to the Shark Speed) and has sealed HEPA filtration and is relatively quiet. It's powerful and does a beautiful job cleaning. It's very easy to maneuver and I love the Lift Away feature to get low and underneath furniture. I highly recommend this vacuum and if you only buy one Shark, I recommend this model as it's the most versatile and great for all floor types. The only slight down side to this model, and it's not a deal breaker, is the location of the power switch. It is located low on the body of the vacuum near the dirt canister handle and as a tall guy, I have to reach down rather low to turn it on and off. Also, they put the Lift Away release button on the exact opposite side of the power switch, so there is a slight learning curve until you get used to which button is which. I wish the power switch was on the handle, like my Rotator Powered Lift Away XL. Other than that, I love it and have no complaints and recommend this to anyone needing a deep cleaning, easy to use vacuum. Oh, I also like that Shark gives this vacuum a Seven year warranty, most other vacuums offer one year or at best a five year warranty. This would be perfect for RV Campers and smaller homes too as it is very easy to store and is compact in size while still performing like a full sized vacuum. I currently use it on my main floor (mostly hardwood) and keep the other Shark lift away upstairs where most of the floors are carpeted. All around a great Vacuum, Thanks Shark, Thanks Best Buy!

This vacuum was easy to assemble and took about a minute or 2 with no tools required. It came with some awesome attachments (more about that later) and a very nice bag to store them in. The first time I used it, I wanted to try to vacuum up some tiny beads that had become lost in my carpet and since I had vacuumed the carpet very recently, I was hoping to vacuum up the beads without getting too much dirt that I would have to search through. Well, I did get the beads, but also quite a bit of dirt that my previous vacuum had not been powerful enough to pull out of the carpet. Performance: I am very happy with how well this vacuum performs. It really does a wonderful job in picking up the dirt. It out-performed every other vacuum that I've ever had. It is extremely maneuverable and swivels easily around tight places. I can see when the dust container needs to be emptied and it is easy to empty. I can see as I vacuum that the brush rollers are moving because there is a green light. The attachments work very well and are easily attached and removed as needed. Features: I love that the vacuum has 3 settings for hard floor, low pile carpet, or thick carpet. I tried them all and was very happy with all three. I also love how well it swivels and the width of the vacuum makes it easy for me to get in places where I couldn't get before. The Lift-Away feature is great. In fact, you have some options with that feature. With just a push of the "Lift Away" button, you can remove the canister (which they call a "vacuum pod"). Then use the "Wand Release" button or the "Handle Release" button to remove either the entire length of the wand or just the handle (which has a short wand), depending on which you prefer to use. You can also add any of the attachments to the long wand or shorter handle. There are 2 different buttons to push to release the handle. One releases the short handle and the other releases the full length of the handle. They are both easy to use. I had no problem pushing the buttons and releasing the handles. Then they click back into place when you replace them, so you know they are attached correctly. You can also release the handle, add an attachment, and use it without using the Lift-Away feature which is a bit faster for when you need to use a tool quickly and get right back to vacuuming with the entire unit. Underneath, the vacuum comes with a soft roller as well as a brush roll and they are both easy to remove if you need to remove string or hair that has become wrapped around the roller. The attachments that I received are: (1) an Under Appliance Wand which is long and flat and can be used to vacuum under the refrigerator or can reach under low furniture (it can be used "as is" to clean the floor under your appliance or its extension piece can be removed and flipped over to clean the underside of appliances), (2) a Duster Crevice Tool that has a brush attachment that can be slid into place when needed or moved out of the way when you only want to use the crevice tool, (3) a Pet Multi-Tool which has a stiff bristle brush that can be removed to reveal an upholstery tool (so you can use the brush to loosen stuck-on debris or use the upholstery surface for cleaning pet hair (or other debris) from your sofa or chair), and (4) a Pet Power Brush which can be used on the stairs or upholstery. You don't need a pet to appreciate how convenient this tool is. There are 2 places on the vacuum cleaner for storing 2 of the attachment tools. Other tools and accessories can also be bought (motorized brush, dusting brush, caddy, long crevice tool) but I was pleasantly pleased at the ones that came with the vacuum. The dust container can be removed easily using a single button and carried to the trash to empty. To empty it, just push one or both of the 2 buttons that open the top and bottom of the canister. The filters are located under the dust container and are easy to access and remove. The manual suggests rinsing them thoroughly every 3 months. Let them air dry completely before replacing. The unit comes with both an Owner's Guide and a Quick Start Guide.

No one enjoys the vacuuming chore but the Shark Liftaway Duo Clean at least provides the power and versatility to get almost any cleaning job done in short order -- once you get past the learning curve. This thing takes the form of a bagless upright when fully assembled but breaks down in a number of ways to deal with various cleaning problems. Want to clean the stairs? The lift away feature allows you to detach the main motor/cannister and top of the handle to turn into a canister vac. Then attach a small air driven power head. Want to clean under the bed or (some) appliances? The long handle that attaches to the power head pops off and Shark provides a nifty long flat attachment to get to the places you could never reach before. It is figuring out how to take it apart and put it back together that takes a little time. There are no screws or fasteners of any kind involved in initial assembly. Everything just clicks together and then comes apart with the push of a release button. There are LOTs of release buttons so take time to read the instructions to figure out the assembly that works best for your particular job. In fully assembled upright mode, this Shark is much like every other upright, except the power head is quite small, maybe half as wide as some competitors. And quite flat. So it makes it easier to get under some things. But it takes more passes to complete a big room. It is something of a mixed blessing. Steering is a bit odd, with turns accomplished by twisting the grip back and forth in a swivel motion. Takes some getting used to but works well. . The motor is not as noisy than some uprights but is still quite powerful. And thanks to its unique two roller design, it does seem to pick up more dirt. The front roller is covered in a short felt like material and is designed to get very small particles. The second larger brush is more traditional and gets everything else. A fairly bright headlight shows the the way and big indicator light on the power head warns of any tangles or overheating (by turning from green to red). A nice touch. I also was pleased to see the adjustment for floor type (bare, low carpet, thick carpet) high up on the handle. It is much easier to change on the fly than the dial type power head control on other competitors. And in my house, with two cats, it seemed to do the job, picking up a lot more gunk after I had just cleaned with my old vacuum. You better hope you don't have too much dirt though since the canister that collects the dirt is quite small, 75 percent smaller than many other bagless uprights. And yes, if you have pet hair, you still have to reach inside the canister to pull out the balls of hair. They don't just fall out. No improvement there. You have to empty after each use for obvious reasons and clean the filters ever few months. One other big disappointment is there no auto cord rewind, something that should be standard on a vacuum this expensive. You got wind it up by hand every time. Ugh. Speaking of the power cord, it is thankfully VERY long. I can almost reach my entire house from a central outlet, which is convenient. It's mostly plastic so not sure about long term durability. But seems sturdy and well designed and far more versatile than most other vacuums. If you need the versatility this unit provides, the Shark Duo Clean Liftaway could be the ticket.

Let me first provide a little background to my living situation. I live in a second floor apartment with hardwood floors throughout. I have multiple rugs of varying length throughout the apartment and the real kicker and reason behind trying a new vacuum is my very hair Australian shepherd dog. My conventional vacuum I thought did a great job on the rugs and carpets in the places that I have lived in the past but my current apartments has hardwood floors that includes a staircase. Thus, cleaning was a bit of a chore as I vacuumed all the rugs and then swept all the hardwood floors and had to hand sweep my stairs. Having not purchased a new vacuum in years (~7), I figured it was worth trying a lift away as that would help with the stairs. First, some assembly is required but it is not much and literally clicks together in a few minutes. Once assembled, the vacuum is heavier than one would expect from appearances. Similarly, the vacuum was much louder than I anticipated it would be and I believe it was, in fact, louder than my old vacuum. The rollers and subsequent vacuum head is smaller than most vacuums, less than a foot. In order to really see how well it worked I decided my living room rug was the best place to try it. You can see in the picture that the rug appears fairly clean prior to vacuuming. I used the Shark on one half of the rug and my conventional old vacuum on the other half of the rug. The shark moved very easily and has much better mobility which would allow it to get into tight spaces much easier than my old vacuum. Interestingly, the Shark only has three floor settings which can readily be adjusted on the handle making switching from surface to surface easy. As can be seen by my dirt piles, both vacuums can fairly readily pick up my dogs hair out of the rug. Interestingly, when I used the Shark over the area my old vacuum had cleaned I was able to pull out even more hair/dirt (middle pile in the picture). When I tried the Shark on the hardwood floors it was fairly loud such that I do not think I would use it that much directly on the floors. In short, this vacuum does a great job at exactly what it was designed to do, pick up dirt and hair from the floors. It does an excellent job at deep cleaning of shallow carpets, is easy to use, and can readily be detach to hand clean couches or steps. It offers a high degree of mobility and versatility in one compact package. However, the small brush path and small container volume would prove to be problematic in the cleaning of larger areas or places with multiple pets. This vacuum is likely best suited for small homes or apartments and that require a high degree of mobility/flexibility.

This review is for the Shark Powered Lift-Away Speed with DuoClean. The Shark Lift-Away Duo Clean is an extremely versatile and powerful home vacuum cleaner. It has a self propelled floor and rug head that is built into the units handle. The power unit and dirt collection unit is a separate module that can be detached from the handle and carried, when doing stairs with the 6 inch powered carpet/ upholstery brush, cleaning blinds or dusting furniture or any other task that requires mobility. It is a cleaning demon. Way more than you would expect for the price. The carpet/floor head will fit under a two inch high opening to a depth of about 1 foot. The self propelled head can be pivoted at any angle and steered with the handle. The six inch powered carpet brush really works great on carpeted stairs. The long flat extension will reach 3 feet under appliances. It has a brush that will loosen the dust on the bottom of the refrigerator coils and suck it up through the slot. The flexible hose is sufficiently long enough for most jobs when the power unit is on the handle and long enough to clean the tops of ceiling fans when the power unit is detached and carried. The crevice tool has a brush that can be slid to the end or slid back to be used as a standard crevice tool. We used this vacuum for about three weeks before I wrote this review and no one in our house has any complaints. The lift away power unit is really cool and you can even buy an optional wheeled carrier for the power unit if you please. The carpet head is not real wide. it is about 10-11 inches wide, but it really cleans. The only issue that I noticed was that the self propelled action can be a little aggressive on a deep piled carpet if the head is set to an excessively low height. Great value, and all that most people will need. If you have a big house you can afford one of these on each floor and the basement, for way less than one of the premium vacuum cleaners. I own one of those premium vacuum cleaners and this little wonder is better than it is on everything but deep pile carpets. On a tight pile carpet it is the winner. It stores easily and has a nice bag for the attachments that can be hung on the unit when in storage. This Shark Powered LiftAway DuoClean is a 5 stars, thumbs up, great bang for the buck choice, in my opinion.

    Really Great Little Vacuum

I bought this Shark vacuum to replace my Kirby. So far, I am very gad that I did!! This little Vac works really well on our hard tile floors and carpet. Easy assembly out of the box, excellent suction, lifts/vaccums up everything in its path, empties out very easily, cleans up very easily, very simple to lift away, steers easily, pulls itself along with no effort required by the operator. I would have given this Vac 5 stars but there are 2 things that I feel need to be addressed by the manufacturer. 1. The power head is too small and it would be a much better vaccum if the power head were bigger so you could vaccum a wider swath. The small power head does work well, but its just really small. It kinda makes me feel like I am using a toy vacuum. 2. The hose clip that pushes into the back of the wand to secure the hose when the vacuum is in upright mode will not stay secure in the holder and continuously pops out. This is really, really frustrating to me, so I put a couple of heavy duty rubber bands on it to hold it in place. The Shark engineers really need to come up with something better than this to secure the hose. If the power head were bigger and the hose clip would hold the hose to the back of the wand, I would have to say that this would be the perfect vacuum and I firmly beleive that if The manufacturer would address these 2 items, this machine would hands down be the very best vacuum available on the market. Don't get me wrong, the vacuum works very well like it is, but it could and would be better if these 2 issues were addressed, re-engineered and resolved. In a nut shell, you wont regret buying this machine as it does work quite well but could be even better.

    Vacuum As Multi Tool

Lately my favorite vac had been the cordless Shark Navigator; but, to get full force suction to deep clean from high pile carpets to hard floors, the corded SHARK POWERED LIFT AWAY has lots of amenities that offer a reason for having a heavier duty option around the house. And, can't beat a generous 7 year warranty! Out the box, you get the set up guide for a quick 5 step assembly. Initially, the weight of the fully assembled vac concerned me; but, I found out that you can reconfigure this vac so the canister that holds the dirt and carries the tools can be held separately from the powered brush head unit. If you are elderly or have health challenges, it’s a good idea to lift and maneuver the vac at the store to test compatibility with your limitations. The brush head offers a self-propelled assist so when you are vacuuming a deep pile carpet, resistance is minimized. Of course, you have to be vigilant about the power levels to protect fringe and scatter rugs from the powerful suction that you get when the switch is shifted into high gear. But, if you do get hair, string or fabric wrapped around the brush head, you no longer have to turn over a heavy brush head to struggle with unwinding material from the cylindrical brush. The cover pops off the top side of the ‘garage’ for quick access. Even a thread cutter is mounted inside the cover so you don’t have to run to the junk drawer for a straight edge. Like in a ‘Transformer’ movie, you can create a variety of configurations to use the tools handily attached to the unit for travel from room to room. On the low power setting, I used the small rotating brush head for window treatments, blinds and duvets that had been on my to do list for eons. You can adjust the reach of the wand to be long or short; so, high mounted curtains and rods, fans, high moldings and walls are a cinch. There are clips for cord management. The crevice tool offers the option to pull a dust brush up to its tip so you can sweep fragile objects. Can’t wait to get at those tight spots on the floor under my truck seats. As well, for my fluted and pleated fabric lamp shades whose folds I would only imagine I got clean with the feather duster, I now clean those folds and creases no longer having to lie to myself. In my book, most thrilling was a new luxury tool. Now I have a long, flat attachment allows me to vacuum under low clearance furnishings such as under the fridge and stove. I usually don’t reach those tough spots until it’s time move out or install a new floor. Now, I can be closer to my hygienic ideal by capturing crumbs and dust balls that might attract insects and rodents. The transparent canister lets me see when the unit is full of dirt. And, a press of the canister button lets me drop debris into my compost tumbler without a whiff of dust blown in my face. Access to clean the topside filters is a button pop as well. Though I would l like a lithium battery-driven version of this unit, the NV 800 Lift-Away option can give you a more thorough cleaning experience until R+D can satisfy the cordless wish. Unlike the cordless Shark Navigator, you are not interrupted by having to recharge a dead battery. So, if you’re always time challenged to get all rooms clean before receiving guests, with the LIFT-AWAY, you don’t have to worry that you only have 20 to 30 min to do the job before a recharge is required. But, if you have the resources, the transforming convenience of both is especially smart if you are multi-tasking between several floors. I don’t need it right now; but, a rolling caddy for the canister is available as a separate purchase that allows the motor to be pulled along behind the stick with the powered head. I will revisit additional accessories in the future.. At my age, I have a long view as a basis for comparison. With the LIFT AWAY, what I got 'power and option-wise' is far more than what I got for a high end vac at $700 which was huge suction but far too heavy to lug up and down stairs. The SHARK POWERED LIFT AWAY cost sits between the cordless and my expensive ‘medicine ball’; but, the variety of cleaning solutions in a tight break away package for hitting the stairs to high places is at the right the price point for the value.

I received this item from Best Buy to review. I was not too excited because we only have one room with a wall to wall carpet and a basement with indoor/outdoor carpet and the stairwell that leads down to the basement. I was pleasantly surprised about this vacuum and how much more it could do besides just carpets. I have always had a typical vacuum cleaner, with a canister and one hose attachment. This was the first one that I have ever owned that had attachments and could come apart to be used like a shop vac. Typically when we would do our spring cleaning or when I had to clean the stairwell, we had to use our smaller shop vac which is why it was not cleaned much. It was super easy to turn the standup vacuum in to a portable vacuum. I was surprised how light it was and easy to hold as I was cleaning the stairwell. Usually it is a workout and balancing act with trying to find a spot to rest the shop vac and clean the stairs at the same time. It was very easy to hold the Shark clean the stairs and I did not have to bend as much as I usually did when using a shop vac. Suction was good and I was able to clean the stairs a little bit faster with much less effort. We used the Shark to clean our couches which was easier and cleaned up the cat fur much faster than the shop vac. It was easy to hit the cobwebs in the ceiling and the nooks behind the couch and other furniture that we normally do not clean unless we complete move everything. We have a wood burning stove and lots of small wood bits and ash. The Shark easily cleaned it up and not dust pan was needed. We noticed that less of the small bits were spread around and it made it much easier to clean in the grout of the wood floor. Cleaning the floor is much easier now. What I really like is how well it cleaned the bare floor. I used it to get under the counter tops on the floor and it was much easier to wash the floor because we didn’t have as much debris on the floor. Same for the bathroom floor, it was much easier to just clean the tile instead of cleaning up debris and dirt. The Shark worked well on the indoor/outdoor carpet. Our basement floor is uneven and the concrete has started to crumble apart in areas which makes it difficult to vacuum up smaller lint stuck in the carpet. The Shark wasn’t perfect, but it was able to pick up more than our old vacuum. There are lots of pictures on the Shark to tell you how to use and adjust the vacuum which makes it handy as they are very easy to follow. What I love is that the Shark comes with washable filters. No more remembering to replace them or finding somewhere to buy them. If it is dirty now I can just clean the filters and use them again. The Shark does a nice job of not blowing the dust and dirt we vacuumed up. With our old one I could always see and smell/taste the dust and dirt, the Shark does a much better job keeping it in the vacuum. Removing the canister was easy and easy to put back. Emptying the canister was a little tricky and messy. I have yet to use a vacuum cleaner that has a canister that is 100% mess free. Again, the pictures were very helpful with emptying the canister very easy. The attachment caddie is very nice. For my 1800 sq ft house with regular height ceilings this is a great vacuum. I did use it to clean my car and it did a nice job, but the larger shop vac I used, worked better. I am guessing that if used the Shark more often it would be fine because I could keep on top of any small messes made in my car. It was a lot easier to use and move then the larger shop vac. I did enjoy that I could bring the Shark inside my car and I didn’t have to constantly wheel the vacuum around like a shop vac. For the price point and functionality, this is a great vacuum and it cleans a lot of surfaces and areas of your house.

Well I am very familiar and have done a lot of research on this company. I have used the older shark that you see in the picture for over 5 years without one problem. The new one just made my old one garage/car duty. Now as far as this new Shark Powered lift-away vacuum it is pretty awesome. Installation took me less then 3 minutes (Yes I still did have the installation guide open to make sure). Using it I noticed a big difference in power/suction over my old one, also its quieter. Loved the idea that it came with a attachment bag. Some other positives and negatives now: Longer cord which helps you not have to constantly unplug to go to different rooms Very Powerful Will not scare your cats, except for the nice lights in the front might make the cats chase them :) Negatives: Only one that my wife and I noticed was on a carpet the suction is so strong that it can be harder to move it back in forth. Dont get me wrong, you can just need to use some muscles :) Overall: Awesome, highly recommended. Did not use the attachments yet but love the one that extends in case you want to reach a high ceiling or vent.

I've had a Kirby G5 for years. The thing is heavy (all metal) but reliable, the HEPA bags can easily add another 10 lbs of dirt. On carpets the Kirby does a respectable job. But as I've been removing all the carpet in my house and replacing them with wood and tile; there is less and less where the Kirby is good. The Shark DuoClean does a FANTASTIC job on hardwood, and tile floors. The little spinning roller thing (see picture) on the front gets up dust like I can't believe. In the morning sun all the dust on my wood floors, shine in the sunlight, my Kirby does a good job of redistributing the dust, but not getting it sucked up. The Shark on the other hand passes over the dust leaving a clean strip of floor behind. Same with my wood looking tile floors, the grittiness the Kirby always left behind is a thing of the past (YEA). If that all there was too it I'd be most pleased, but then I go to use the Shark on my still carpeted stairs, and the back breaking work of lugging and balancing theKirby on the stairs is gone. The Shark is a fraction of the weight (probably 1/4), and the wand reached more than half way up the stairs, so after finishing 1/2 I take the Shark to the top and work my way down...No balancing, and it's just as effective. And the handy little tools make getting behind and under things much easier. The only thing I wish it had was an attachement to better clean ceiling fans, the bright LED lights on the front are also a nice touch. And it's easy to empty the dust container, unlike the Kirby's expensive bags that I don't want to empty (replace); the Shark will likely get empties with each use, just that easy. It's also powerfully self propelled (if you want it to be). The lift off canister is a nice touch, but the job it does on hard floors makes this a most impressive vacuum cleaner.

Let's get right to it. The Shark Powered Lift-Away with DuoClean is powerful. Very powerful. And all its workings, inside and out, combine to create a versatile, high-performance machine that I love using, especially with pets. I'm no expert with vacuum cleaners, and I'd say in the last ten years that I've used a total of four or five different ones. I couldn't tell you what they were, but they were bagless, which I believe to be today's standard. What I can say is that this vacuum, without a doubt, blows the others out of the water. I've never been so satisfied with the performance of a vacuum cleaner once I'm finished cleaning. While I waited to receive the product, the carpeted floors were vacuumed once with what I had before this one. Two days later, I received the Shark vacuum and put it to the test immediately, and the results were really something. In fact, I used it again the next day and was still pulling out dirt and hair that the former machine failed to get out. The carpet looks great after vacuuming. Even the air feels cleaner. What's great about this Shark vacuum is its ability to go anywhere. It's highly versatile and has all sorts of ways to reach what you need to, whether it's under the sofa or table, or in tight spaces, thanks to its lift-away feature and multiple included accessories. The head is relatively small and swivels and fits wherever you need it to. The handle is detachable for proximity cleaning. You can remove the wand for even more reach, whether its tight areas or hard-to-reach places, including ceiling fans. And you can attach accessories to either of these, allowing you to adapt it to any cleaning work that needs done. Then with the lift-away, you an take the vacuum underneath any furniture that sits at least approximately four inches off the ground. Even better, all of these reattach with extreme ease; there is no difficulty whatsoever here. When you're finished, remove the canister and press a button (and all of these features I've mentioned have buttons) on the front to open the door on the bottom. I like that I can keep the mess contained and not have to fumble with any of it. One last neat feature is the fact that this has headlights, something I thought was a thing of the past. There wasn't really anything to dislike about this vacuum—it's not too loud, it's very powerful, and reaches practically anywhere with its low-profile head and multiple included accessories, not to mention the lift-away. The only fault I'd give the vacuum if I had to is that it's a bit heavy despite its size. All of its usefulness and versatility, however, make this one con totally excusable. I'd highly recommend this vacuum to anyone who requires power, has pets (or not), and has nooks and crannies, big and small, throughout their living space.

    This Vacuum Sucks...Real Well

Like most, I don't buy a new vacuum every day, nor do I buy $500 vacuums, however, I was not displeased by the suction of this Shark Lift-Away. We were replacing a 10yr old upright "cyclonic bagless" designed for pet owners that worked very well when we owned a cat. The cat is no longer with us and the old vacuum has continued to vacuum our carpets for the last 18+ months to our satisfaction. Imagine our surprise when we found the Shark was finding cat hair! I have no qualms about the sucking power of this vacuum. Additionally, it is a tad bit quieter than my previous bagless. It was easy and quick to assemble with no tools required. There are ample tools and ways to use this vacuum (roll it, carry it, use a giant wand, etc.). It also works better than my old upright getting under furniture assuming I separate the canister. It has 3 adjustments for carpet height/bare floor. The filters are easy to get to, and the canister is easy to separate from the unit and empty (either from the top or bottom of the receptacle). There is an extra soft brush on the front of the roller assembly that supposedly helps grab big chunks and prevent "flinging" from the standard roller when used on a wood or vinyl surface. It seems to provide that benefit in our limited use on wood floors so far. My wife is fond of the "short wand" option and likes the swivel maneuvering. She finds the grip more comfortable than older vacuums. However, there are a couple of design flaws in my opinion. First, I couldn't find the clip for the cord when vacuuming. I had to look at the manual to find the hook to keep from running over the cord. Second, this is our first swivel vacuum and I found it to be weighted awkwardly with the canister attached. With the canister attached it was also a bit difficult to maneuver on thicker carpet--so this could be a challenge for an elderly owner or someone with limited arm/wrist strength. Third, the brush rolls are not very wide. I don't know the exact measurement, but they are easily 2" shorter (if not 4") in width from what I am used to which translates into more pushing across the carpet. Finally, with all the different usage options, you need to make sure everything is snapped into place snugly or you'll be pulling out handles and tubes will be falling off. They don't just "fall out on their own" but we thought we had it all hooked back up and realized when we were done the wand wasn't properly attached. Again, very good suction for the price. Lots of useful attachments. Works well across multiple floor types. A little awkward to maneuver at first and could be a bit tricky for the elderly to handle. The optional caddy for "cannister style" would solve that issue for anyone who finds it difficult to control this vacuum.

Usage: We have a 3200sqft home with hardwood throughout the lower level and mid-pile carpet on the stairs and the upper level. This Shark handled the entire house handily and was easy to use on the stairs. No pets. Overall impression: The suction power was quite good. Edge to edge cleaning the most impressive thing about it. Pros: TRUE edge-to-edge cleaning. We can run this alongside our baseboards and it sucks up everything near it. Was a very welcome surprise as all too often vacuums fall short in this area and you're left going to the detachables every time. We don't have to do this with the Shark. Being able to detach the main vacuum for ease of transport up stairs is also a blessing and makes for easy cleaning of the steps. It also comes with a plethora of attachments, some we weren't even sure what they were or how to use them and had to open the instruction manual ;) It turns much like the Dyson Ball, no "back and forth" motion needed to start the vacuum in a new direction. It's quite refreshing to be able to adjust the height of the vacuum from the top of the handle where your hand sits. Makes it easy to always ensure you're at the right height instead of not being low enough for bare floors and beating the heck out of your higher pile carpets. Cons: Both my wife and I expressed some fatigue to our wrists after vacuuming; it does require some effort to make the thing turn like you want it to. The head of the vacuum is a good 30% smaller than our current Dust Devil, means you don't cover as wide of a path as you would otherwise. The hose connector on the back of the vacuum doesn't stay attached well, resulting in the hose flopping around the whole time you're vacuuming. Our current vacuum ($90) has an auto-retract cord. For $200+ this should as well. Even on the tallest setting, it would still suck up the edge of our rugs and caught us offguard sometimes. A testament to its suction, but on the tallest setting I'd expect this to be a bit more forgiving. No storage for *all* the detachables. Instead you are left storing a few of them in a bag. I'd like to be able to power the thing on/off w/ my foot or a button near the hand grip, not have to bend over and hit a button on the top of the canister area. The canister isn't as big as you think; you think you've sucked up a TON of stuff, the you go to empty it and realize it's about 1/3 the size of a typical "wind tunnel" vacuum canister.

Overall very impressed with this vacuum. The base main brush head at first seemed small, but it's smaller frame lets you go everywhere. It's small wheel base behind the head lets it flexibly move easily in every direction. Nice bright led lights on the main base did a good job illuminating under the bed, etc. I like the lift off canister option. I didn't think we'd use it much, but when you take it off the vacuum then the main vacuum has a really slim profile that lets you get under a lot more things. Very good suction and leaves the "lines" in your carpet showing where you've been. The handle switch let's you easily switch from hard floor, low pile and thick pile carpets - much easier then my old vacuum where it was a dial on the base of the vacuum. Sucked up sand, dust, pet hair, etc. all with ease. Very long cord so you can vacuum a whole room without switching outlets. The handle comes out in 2 different places so you can use either a short wand for handheld cleaning or the long wand for higher up spots. It was easy to clean as the canister opens both on the top and the bottom. The amount of attachments was a little daunting, but we got used to them pretty quickly. There's pretty much an attachment for every type of cleaning you'd need to do - even a crazy long L attachment that's perfect for cleaning under things like the stove, dryer, and other hard to reach areas. Its compact frame fits in any closet. Only thing that was a bit tough to maneuver is the crevice tool wand with bristles – the bristles part slides back and forth when you depress a plastic notch on the side that was a bit finicky to depress and lock and unlock. It’ll probably loosen up a bit with use. Very happy with this vacuum so far.

Best Vacuum we have owned to date

If you are looking for an all around great vacuum, this might be the one for you. This is my second Shark Vacuum since our Dyson. Overall I prefer the Shark vacuums to any other Brand to date. They are lighter, easier to use with on-board accessories and can get into smaller areas such as under tables, beds etc. HINT: In lift-away mode attach the handle direct to the power head (no extension) and use to clean stairs. This finally makes cleaning steps a breeze. I also own an Oreck and the standard (Light blue) Shark Lift-Away Speed. I have been pretty happy with the Shark. However, the new Duo Clean system is pretty genius. They put a smaller, soft roller before the cleaning roller to enhance the cleaning power. This makes cleaning hard surface floors much better. The light blue Lift-Away Speed has a hard surface attachment you can use which does a very nice job, but I am usually to lazy to go grab it for smaller kitchen and hall area. So I prefer the new Duo Clean for hardwood type floors. The power head on the Duo is about 1-1/2” narrower than the standard ‘Speed’ model. My guess is that Shark did this for more maneuverability in small areas. My wife has a small home cleaning business and she prefers the Oreck simply due to the weight and slimmer size. It is easier for her to load in the vehicle. But with that said, she will use the new Shark periodically for a deeper clean and the need to use some of the accessories. The ‘Under Appliance Wand’ works great for under the stove, washer and dryer etc. And the ‘TruePet® Mini Motorized Brush’ works very nice on fabric furniture to remove pet fur. Below is a list of my pros and cons of this unit: Pros: -Duo Roller is great for hard floors and also assists on providing a deeper clean on the carpet. -Easy Remove/Clean Rollers -Nice LED lights -Lighter than past vacuum models -Can get under beds, dressers and tables with ease. -Easy to clean steps. -Easy to use onboard accessories -Useful Under Appliance Wand and TruePet® Mini Motorized Brush Cons: -Small collection cylinder (plan on emptying multiple times per cleaning if you have pets) -Slightly harder to pull back due to the added roller (but it does clean great) Bottom line - If you are looking for an all around great vacuum with lots of accessories and ease of use, you will not be disappointed with this vacuum. I must say it is the best vacuum we have owned to date. ** I did receive this unit in exchange for my unbiased and honest review. Trust me, I will tell it like it is as I too dislike fake reviews.

This is one powerful device. It's pretty much everything you could want in a vacuum cleaner. It's light, has the suction to make small cats disappear, and has plenty of attachments to get the job done. It's similar in appearance and function to Shark's Rotator Lift-Away, our previous vacuum, but in a smaller package. It seems just as powerful, too. Its claim to fame is dual brush rolls. I guess the theory is that if the first roll misses anything, the second roll is there to get it. And it works. We've used it on carpet, hardwood, and tile floors and it performs equally well on all surfaces. Just make sure to change the thumb switch to the type of floor you’re are cleaning. Setting it to "Carpet" increases the speed of the brush rolls for better cleaning. It comes with 3 attachments: 1) A handy wand for cleaning under appliances. If you've ever rolled your refrigerator out of its normal spot, you know why this is a good tool to have. I've also found it handy for cleaning the hard to get to filters on my refrigerator. 2) A handheld brush attachment. 3) A handheld roller attachment with is labeled "Hard surfaces". I guess it's for cleaning up smaller messes on counters, tables, etc. I would think it would also be effective for getting pet fur off furniture. In addition to the included attachments, Shark offers additional tools on their website. Lastly, when you need more portability, just "lift-away" the main unit from the base and go to town. It makes it very convenient for cleaning cobwebs from corners, getting dust off of blinds, or even vacuuming out the car. It also allows you to get underneath tables and couches. It's a quick and easy process and gives you no excuse for having dust bunnies underneath things. This is a great vacuum cleaner, and while you can buy cheaper ones, you won't get the same versatility, power, and ease of use Shark offers in the Lift-Away Speed. Happy cleaning!

I have the Powered Lift Away XL Capacity Dirt Cup model, so I can do a direct comparison of these two very similar models. On the plus side, this DuoClean model has the dual soft brush & hard brush rollers, which does clean more difficult objects that typical hard-brush only models leave behind. The hose, handle release buttons, and the hose hook are improvements over previous models. This unit is indeed a little quieter as well. The onboard tool holders are a big improvement. The tools (pet hair brush and crevice / dusting tool) fit much more snugly than on other Shark models. The pet hair brush has a detachable long-bristle brush for extra-hard-to-clean pet hair. The bottom of the unit can be opened for access to the brush rollers for cleaning / maintenance. This model comes with the long wand for cleaning under furniture and appliances. The negatives: The on / off button is no longer on the handle by the carpet / hard floor switch. It is now near the top of the dirt cup. The dirt cup is smaller than before. And the bottom of the dirt cup has dust residue after emptying the cup out. Very disappointing! Also, the Pet Power Brush does NOT work on electricity as it does on the Powered LiftAway XL Cup model. It relies on suction power. It is also cheaply designed, being extremely difficult to open and close for maintenance. Overall, Shark traded some of the good features of the Powered LiftAway XL Dirt Cup model for the DuoClean brushes, better onboard tool holders, quieter performance, and easier maintenance of the brush rollers. Personally, I like the older model better, and am going to return this new DuoClean model to the store for a refund. If you own another brand, and are looking for an upgrade, and don't mind having to empty the dirt cup more often, you may like this latest Shark model very much. If you already own a Shark vacuum, depending upon the model, I suggest you look at this DuoClean model carefully before buying it online.

Our household has, in the past utilized dyson, or electrolux vacuums (the blast from the past, sold to you at your front door variety). So when our last vacuum - a B&D who's power brush flew off during use (it died) - we wanted to explore a shark brand unit, as we have heard nothing but good things. Taking it out of the box, the first thing I noticed was the weight. It is not heavy at all! Coming in at just around 15lbs - it is not a "chore" to push/pull/carry. And don't let the weight throw you, this is a powerful unit - in fact it "sucks" better than ANY vacuum I have EVER owned. Unlike my other units, this unit has a 99.9 percent air filtration unit. Nothing that goes in is going to come out, down to the micron level. So for those with allergies, this is the vacuum for you! Further, allergy prone people with pets will love the powered pet brush, as well as the pet multi-tool. Our 2 futons (who am I kidding! Our dog's 2 futons!) are the biggest fur collectors in our home. The pet tools made easy work out of removing the fur and anything else stuck on to the 2 pieces of furniture. Amazingly, prior to this unit, I would pick up my previous vacuum and literally try to vacuum off the futons "floor style". Doing so didn't come anywhere close to the shark in its removal. As a bit of a nerd myself (we all are to a degree) I just LOVE the other attachments. Whoever came up with the "under appliance" wand - should get a medal! First I tried it under our range in the kitchen - holy smokes! Lots of stuff! Then under the fridge! So much stuff (dust/etc) was removed, I couldn't believe we had in our house. The shark also has a VERY generous cord length, that will make using it in multiple rooms no problem at all. Last but not least, this shark is actually nice to look at from a design standpoint. I know, i know.. It's a vacuum - but still! Shark left no stone unturned with this unit. If you want a vacuum that is versatile, powerful, and gosh-darn pretty - get the shark!
